22 year-old Zagreb native Borna Ćorić was on a roll at this year’s Australian Open until he met #28 Frenchman Lucas Pouille in the 4th Round Monday night. After taking the first set in a tiebreak, Ćorić looked tired, missing multiple easy shots that he would normally make. Ćoric is still waiting to play in his first Grand Slam quarterfinal. He lost the following sets 4-6, 5-7 6-7 and will have to wait until the summer for another Grand Slam run.
Ćorić has been on may tennis radars since he was a teenager and dubbed the next Novak Djokovic based on his style of play.
Last year’s Australian Open finalist Marin Čilić bowed out Sunday night in Melbourne after a five-set match against Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut. Čilić won the first set in a tiebreaker but couldn’t keep the momentum; losing the next two sets. After a five-set match in the third round against Fernando Verdasco, tired legs could have contributed to the Bautista Agut loss.
Watching tennis at 3 15 am …I might need therapy.
Anyhow go Borna!
Coric up a set. Early though. Hope he goes through. Gotta work in the morning. Wish I could stay up.
