Not just did the Croatian “Barracudas” defeat Serbia Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the 2024 World Aquatics Water Polo Championships, but their progression in the tournament has now booked their spot in the Paris Olympics this summer. Only 12 nations qualify for the Olympics in water polo so it’s never something to take for granted. Croatia have been extremely successful in Olympic water polo this century. At London 20212, they won the gold medal. At Rio 2016 they lost to Serbia in the Final and in Tokyo 2020 the Barracudas got to the quarterfinal round.
The Croatian water polo team will now face France in the semifinals of the World Aquatics Championships on Thursday. France upset Hungary in the quarterfinal round which should be a bit of a relief for Croatia. If things line up like they should, Croatia can play Spain in the final. Spain defeated Croatia 10-6 in group stage and were victorious last month in Zagreb in the Euro 2024 Final. Spain will play Italy in the other semifinal.
They took out those Frog Cunts. Ajmooooo
We’re doing very well in waterpolo these last few years.
Gotta get the gold in these Olympics.
It was a good performance by our boys especially our goalkeeper Bijac who made some tremendous saves including two 5 meter shots (like penalty in soccer). France has invested money into water polo in recent years due to their hosting Olympics this year, however despite their improvement we are strong favorites and should win the match and make the final.
Serbia has taken a dive in waterpolo since the 2020 Olympics.
They can’t seem to get out of the quarters anymore. They had to play in the 2nd Division in the most recent Euros as well (since they we bounced in the R16 from the previous Euro where we took gold).
That’s a real maminjo lol
They made a strange decision to stop calling up their older and experienced players. I think it has a lot to do with some infighting within serb water polo and amount of govt money thrown at one of their top club teams Novi Beograd.
Those serbs have no money to feed their own people but they throw around money from the vlada with Novi Beograd, Zvezda in soccer and Partizan in basketball.
They put quite a bit of public money into sports, and they also have foreign investors too.
We are dead last in Europe when it comes to investing in sport.
It’s already a marvel how we manage to field competitive teams across all sports, and actually have a higher gold medal rate now than the former Yugo did (when all republics were combined).
How we managed to somehow get ‘better’ when all we’ve done is essentially cut funding (on top of a population drop)… doesn’t make any sense.
Serbs do it because their leadership is still stuck in communist times. They think they can make problem go away by putting focus on sport.
I om with HRV vlada investing money in more important items than sport.
Not sure if I agree with you Davor, if it was not for our sports people like Ivanisevic, Kostelic and our soccer team to name a few the world would not have a clue where Croatia was on the global map, especially in the early 1990’s when the war was on and immediately afterwords.
Team sports and individuals through their successes on the sporting fields have given a lot of publicity to Croatia as a country. Through our sporting achievements many in the world know who we are and where we are, which was not the case before.
HRV vlada has recognised this and has set aside a lot more money in the upcoming budgets to upgrade sporting facilities in the country. The economic situation is also improving due to our EU membership allowing government to spend more money on sport.
Ivanisevic and Kostelic family made it on their own. The government didnt support their careers. The Kostelic family and ski federation received support only after their results.
Upgrading facilities is fine. Using government funds for club teams is not. That is what the serb clubs are doing.
Money is going to be spent by government on stupid things. You cannot prevent that.
If they don’t spend it on sport, they are going to spend it on DEI initiatives, war donations, and other scams.
That Eurocrat Plenky is already giving free housing and monthly cash stipends to illegal migrants, which will only encourage more to come.
If we put even half that into sports, it would do a lot for Croatia both directly and indirectly. All these other scam projects bring nothing but problems.
@Davor
I don’t know about the Serbs, but the Croatian government is definitely serving a globalist/communist agenda, you know they’re using a mixed economic system for a reason right?
Is Plenkovic not a communist, his dead dad was a massive communist?
Milanovic is a communist.
Mozemo, SDP are communist.
Go back to Tudjman (who stupid Croats believed was right wing just like they do HDZ today) and he was a communist.
Mesic, Josipovic, Kolinda, all communists that did very well for themselves at the expense of Croats.
Croatia is f***** mate, at least France has a lot more original French people than there are original Croats, so we’ll survive, even if our football team is multicultural like yours is.
At the end of the day it looks like the communists and Serbs are going to get you Croats, it’s a shame, because I have a soft spot for the Croats.
Aren’t you yourself a communist, because I did have you on my Leaven List, surely I wasn’t wrong?
