Starting Lineup: Pletikosa – Srna, Lovren, Ćorluka, Vrsaljko – Rakitić, Modrić, Perišić, Kovačić, Olić – Jelavić
It’s a shame Croatia can’t get any calls against the world’s elite in major tournaments.
Two years ago against Spain at EURO 2012, Ćorluka was blatantly taken down in the box with no penalty call. Tonight in Sao Paulo, Fred wasn’t even touched in the penalty box by Lovren but a spot kick was given. Both calls changed the outlook of the games.
In the end, Croatia scored first on Brazil, held their own, had multiple calls against them but will be fine moving forward. It should be considered a morale boost that Croatia was “robbed” tonight in the home opener and it will only do them good against Cameroon and Mexico after going toe to toe with the tournament favorite.
