Yes I remember, during those two losses, Strinic made Alan Hutton look like the RB version of Roberto Carlos, in the same qualifying campaign. He also let Belgium to tie our first game with them by giving an assist to Guillaume Gillet on a silver platter like he was on our team and wearing our checkers, playing for us, in the dying seconds of the first half. He is not a “solid” defender. The Strinic fans then try to say things like this for example, “Lovren has not been so great for our national side either, why pick on Strinic?!” – First off, nobody is picking on anyone, and in regards to Lovren, at least he has scored a couple of goals for our national side and has the potential to be a good player hopefully someday because he does have some talent. Potential is something Strinic will never have as he lacks the essence and nuance of talent. Not picking on him, just calling it as it really is and being truthful.
Once again, I have never witnessed a player on our national team who has literally played far more poorly for us with pure mediocrity/below average play, and yet he is defended so highly.

I have watched all his 33 national team games and almost all his club games in Ukraine and Italy.
The Strinic fans go on and on ad nauseam about the assist to Mandzo against Italy and how special it was. That cross was successful not because of Strinic but because of Cheiliini mistiming the defense of the header on the cross. Chiellini mistimes the header and by total fluke it makes its way over to Mandzo who converts for the goal. Even Mandzo is shocked at first that the ball reaches him. In the first interview with Cheiliini after the game he admits to the fact that the reason the cross gets to Mandzo was due to his error and he takes full responsibility for it.

The only minor disagreement we really have are with starting Olic on that wing…where you would have no problem playing Olic 90 minutes (which may be too much) just as I would have no problem burying Olic on the bench (which may also be too much).
Either way, Croatia is comfortably occupying one of the top two spots…enough to justify giving 45 minutes to any one of Vrsaljko, Jedvaj, Pjaca, Halilovic…in the games against Azerbaijan, Malta, Bulgaria, and Norway (as well as all the friendlies in between).

My opinion? My opinion on Rebic is that he played a shit game today. But you know who else played a shit game? Pranjic.
I can take playing a 21 year-old for the first time in a year and watch him struggle, but I cannot sit there and watch a 34 year-old veteran do the same thing even though he’s started, built chemistry with, and played every game with his teammates in this campaign.
Playing our youngsters from time to time and having to go through growing pains with them in a non-critical game is completely understandable and acceptable.

I was very glad to see Rebic and Vrsaljko out there today. I was VERY happy to see Srna get that red card at the end of the game too, as we will likely now see Vrsaljko (or Jedvaj) in the next qualifier as well. I would continue to have Olic split each half with one of Rebic, Halilovic, or Pjaca for the remaining qualifying games. Pjaca and Halilovic play more regularly than Rebic does, so I would rather opt for them anyway and I also think they’re both more skilled.
What happened today (Pranjic finally being subbed off, Olic splitting minutes, Srna being red carded) were all GOOD things.
We need to experience some of those growing pains with Vrsaljko, Jedvaj, Rebic, Halilovic, Pjaca, Kramaric…now, and NOT later. We need them to develop chemistry with our core unit (Subasic, Modric, Rakitic, Mandzo) because a year is a long time away and anything can happen to a player’s career. You don’t want them learning to play with each other during a tournament (like we were doing at the last one).
