There’s little to say after the Croatia-Spain match Monday night. Slaven Bilić managed a tactically perfect game against the world’s best. He brought in defensive minded Domagoj Vida, taking out striker Nikica Jelavić. Spain had few real opportunities on goal, and as well as could be expected, both teams entered their locker rooms tied 0-0. It was then that Bilić started to bring in the fire, knowing that one goal would put the Vatreni into the quarterfinals. Ivan Rakitić had the chance to play hero but his header following a cross was fired right at goalkeeper Iker Casillas. It was Croatia’s best chance of the game, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
With Italy up 1-0 on the Irish and Croatia still in a scoreless duel with Spain late, the Spanish found their goal in the 88′ to put them through as group winners, although clearly offside. Croatia couldn’t muster up a miracle goal and will now head home. The boys should not hang their heads and could very well go into World Cup 2014 qualification full of confidence.
Rakitić can’t find the back of the net
Spain scores late…offside?
Hola
No est mal tu blog. Haay otros ppst no me interesaron mucho, pero la mayor

White supremacy???? This is football and as I recall the best player to ever play the game was black, for those that remember Pele. No justification for any fans of any country to be throwing bananas on the pitch or making monkey chants show complete and total ignorance and disrespect towards the human race as a whole. The comparisons made above are apalling and revisionist history. The few fans that participated in these ugly aggressive acts have done damage to their respective countries by showing intolerance and hatred for anything or anyone different than they are. Small minds are prone to hatred and need to be punished for spewing their racist philosophies. Annihilation by assimilation????? What a fear mongering racist chant that is. This small minded twit should be removed from any conversations on this site and I ask the moderators to take action immediately. I’m sure this person will respond with more hatred because all racists are predictable in their warped propaganda of hatred. They need to be pointed out and made an example of in all existing societies. They are a cancer to humanity. Shame on you. Let’s talk football and not the justification of race hatred. To the moderators: Please eliminate HAET NOW!
@Bronk, yeah – tell us something we don’t know. But when will you answer my questions? What’s worse, monkey chants in the Ukraine, or the daily racially motivated murders of Whites in South Africa? – You don’t find it strange that a bigger deal is made of monkey chants compared to murders? What’s worse, justifying monkey chants, or justifying the eventual elimination (annihilation by assimilation) of whites from the planet?
Haet throwing a banana or making monkey sounds at a black player is just plain stupid by any fans. Enough said.
king bronk: “Not that im justify raaaycism because im not”
Why do you feel the need to say that? Who taught you to think like that? What is “raaacism”? Can you describe it? Do you justify the ongoing program that leads to the eventual elimination of white people from this planet? What’s a worse “justification”?
Saying “don’t bitch and moan” to someone who’s giving analysis on the officiating, is nothing but a cop-out. It’s the same as calling someone a “raaaciss” for telling the truth. Some of you trained-dogs have been beaten to believe ‘the truth is no defense’. Have you read Animal Farm?
Jarac: “You can’t leave it up to the refs”???
YOU HAVE NO CHOICE KNUCKLEHEAD!
Another example of someone who parrots a mindless statement we’ve heard thousands of times. What if a game was actually fixed? Would you still say to the team that lost: “you can’t leave it up to the refs? LOL!
You just disregarded Pintar’s reply to you and repeated what you already said.
If a home plate ump gives one pitcher ALL the close pitches and the other NONE – that’s almost complete control over the game. You gonna say “you can’t leave it up the umps???
If a football ref calls 5 holdings penalties on one team that calculates to -200 yards (10 yard loss for each call + yards gained on the 5 plays that were called back), but doesn’t call any holding penalties on the other team even though said other team actually held more. You gonna say “you can’t leave it up to the refs???
I could go on and on, but hopefully you get the point now.
On a side note did you notice when the issue of racism comes up in the media about Croatia the headline reads Croatia being investigated for Racism. When Germany does it they are being investigated for “improper conduct.”Not that im justify racism because im not, but you can clearly see the double standard in the headline with how the same charge is presented to the public when its a small country like ours vs a big country like Germany.
It took all of you a while to finally come around to the fact that sports are fixed.
Now you wintessed it against us. There is a total double standard. The Big teams get the breaks the small teams get the shaft unless they have a crazy superstar player that the media loves. Sports is not sports its entertainment and business.
Ante Germany should have been eliminated by Denmark.
Bendtner had a breakaway and was hauled down from behind. Thats a Red card and a PK. That would have been game over for Germany. Refs looked the other way and save the Nationalelf.
Check out the statline in the Croatia game:
21 fouls Croatia 6 yellow cards
16 fouls Spain 0 yellow cards
Two glaring PKS not called.
The Corluka call is really interesting considering he nearly had his shirt ripped off and the fact that Stark was the guy who called a mild tug on the jersey against AC Milan against Uefalona in the champions league.
Finally to add insult to injury the handball and offside goal.
I though Bilic was weak not playing up the fact the ref screwed us big time. Congrats to the captain Srna for stating the obvious….and letting the world know that the fix was in.
Platini publicly state he wants Germany Spain hhhmmm I wonder if that anouncement had any influence on the results?
you know yesterday i was ok at least the boys played hard and showed what we are today im just fucking pissed… must be a mourning process
but fuck me uefa and all will get what they deserve as like anyone else who has fucked with croatia before
let them rig euro cause we don’t need it we will be world champs soon enough!!!
thanks again to this site for allowing us to vent and support our boys, great job guys
Finally – a good article from a woman writer for SI.com defending us:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/georgina_turner/06/18/euro.wrap/index.html
Oh well. We’ll be the champs soon enough.
@ Jurac
“I’m sure the irish were pissed when there was a no call on schindenfeld in the box, very well couldve been a penalty but wasnt called.”
Ireland received a goal off a set piece from a flop so either way it evens itself out.
Or simply give them the penalty kick and they still lose 3-2.
Srna article on the referees this tournament: http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/257722/Darijo-Srna-s-spainful-exit/
In the end, Italy and Spain did have the favor of the game going their way, Croatia fought a great up hill battle & I’m impressed with the results they got.
Look at the tournament guys…
There’s been one penalty call on Day 1, and not one since. I’ve watched nearly every minute of every match thus far. Refs are calling super-conservative games. Too conservative in my eyes.
Yes, that foul on Keane should have been a penalty. Yes, that Corluka shirt tug also should have been a foul. But it seems like these calls need to be blatant for a point to the spot.
This has been the most talented tournament in the history of soccer. Groups B-D have been stacked with talent and most games are only being won by a single goal. Look at Germany, 1-0, 2-1, 2-1. Spain, 1-1, 4-0 err Ireland and a late gimme goal vs Croatia for 1-0.
These games are as tight as can be and a penalty call can change everything.
To balance this out, I see referees calling every little touch at midfield a foul to compensate. Three or four fouls and the yellow comes out. Re: Srna yesterday.
The refs are being consistent with the tournament, but not consistent with typical refereeing of the matches.
Let’s see if it opens up now that we’re in the knockout stage…I still got Germany winning the whole thing.
Funny how the only 2 red cards and penalty kick were given out in the first 90 mins of the tourney and now refs are missing easy calls.
UEFA have their dream matchups…
Where’s KING BRONK?!?!?!
You will never get everyone to agree, but I am very proud of how the team played during the entire tournament. It always hurts no matter how you bow out,but we have certainly been given reasons for pride, and I always console myself with the fact that we have a Croatia to cheer for unlike the ” old days”where there was no pain in bowing out of a tournament for most!!
Our main concern going in was defence, which actually didnt look so bad,Schildenfeld to me looked clumsy against Ireland, but he improved as things went on,Vida is a pretty young guy who really does seem to have a future and Strinic had a pretty decent tournament also.As expected,Pletikosa DID NOT let us down.Overall I think the future still looks pretty good.I do hope that Stimac can do the right things.
Time to get ready to farewell a few people, again as always people will say all sorts of things, but people like Bilic,Simunic ,Olic deserve full praise for their services to the NT.
I agree Jarac. The calls were pretty bad but what do you expect were underdogs going up against champions. I don’t like to be pissed at the refs especially with that Rakitic mess. I had flashbacks of Olic missing against Turkey after that.
@everyone bitching about he mandzukic foul
I’m sure the irish were pissed when there was a no call on schindenfeld in the box, very well couldve been a penalty but wasnt called. Get over it this shit happens all the time. RAKITIC missed the golden opportunity, u cant miss those!!!!
@ Ziva, Sydney
Ziva on the money once again. The man does his homework.
Here’s how the first few games of Euro went:
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gameon/post/2012/06/espns-euro-2012-soccer-draws-strong-tv-ratings/1
Euro games in America are drawing the same audience as a baseball game in June. Not that big of a deal. Agent Argentina, who is currently in buenos Aires, recently told me that Euro 2012 games are not on basic TV down there. You have to stream the games or have a special direct feed…something like DirecTv in the States.
So there ya go…
UEFA neka Zali mi smo Hrvati i necemo Pasti! IDEMO BRAZIL 2014!
@Sydney Jure….you are worng about the TV ratings in N. America. It doesn’t matter who plays for the TV ratings in N. America. They are so small to begin with here that it virtually has no impact and the number is minimal. Yes, teams like Eng and Germany will draw larger numbers than Croatia or Denmark, but those numbers are still low. At best the Euros will draw a 1.2 or 1.3 for the better matches during the tounry. The final may get up to a 2.0. ESPN doesn’t spend big time money for this event in the first place.
The point was, I’m sure eufa are worried about who plays in the last 8 because of adv revenue. Wether they would go to extreme lengths to controll it has to be investigated.
@ Sydney Jure
Ukraine’s goal shouldn’t have counted. The last two passes prior to the goal was offside.
@ Ziva thanks,
Just read thi great article a Spanish ref did the Germany Denmark game and denied a clean penalty to Denmark when it was 1-1 and against us yeterday a German did the game and was not fair against Spain alittle fishy to me, Ukraine Knocked out thanks to ref also clean peanlty and no goal wow, What platini gonna doe with is French losers against Spain hahah wish the worst to both,
Germany – Greece- Ref pro german
Portugal-Czechs-Pro Portugal ref
Italy- England 50-50 beacue both are gonna get calls
France Spain- Platini will make it 50-50 ref.
FUCK THE EUROs Ukraine and Croatia robbed by Refs Good Job uefa if only Holland instead of Greece and if it were possible Shame LOL
As I post Ukraine are denied a goal that clearly crossed the line by a ref looking on from 2 meters away. There is after all a huge English following around the world(tv ratings)$$$$$$$$$$$$
If Spain were knocked out, the whole of sth America and half nth America don’t watch the rest of the tournament. If Italy go a large chunk of USA and other parts of the world do the same. Was there a fix for tv ratings? Hard to prove. But there was plenty of incentive. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$
@ all the ‘new regime’ talk
is it official that Stimac is the new NT coach? or is he just the heavy favorite to take over the NT? same with Suker – has he been selected as well?
@Miro…..lol, good stuff. I guess Euros are not different than American sports as well. Superstars or the big-name squads get special treatment by the officials. I guess its like the old saying in boxing: if you want to beat the champ you have to knock him out and not rely on referees/judges to make decisions.
I know it doesn’t toally apply to soccer, but there is some truth to it.
Zivot ide dalje ali jebo majko Platiniju i Uefi picke ciganske let them have their mouth watering 1/4 i will not be watching any more euro 2012 is over for me fuck them, Such a waste my God imagine Mama boy Ronaldo getting fouled like Mandzo did and the pull on carli, What bothers me most is stupid idiots will see croatia getting 6 yellows and they will think Spain dominated us and we played dirty and Spain got a deserved goal for 1-0 once agian jeben mater Markovicu i platiniju ciganska braca Triba vas sve u UEFA poubivati mrtvu vam majku jeben smrdliju.
I’m shattered even more so now yesterday. I feel robbed, and sick to my guts at what transpired. We were definitely hard done by the officals yesterday, they wanted to make sure the italians & spainards made it through to the last 8.
The players gave it their all played their hearts out against this juggernaught of a side. They derserved a 1-1 draw at the very least, and to come away with nothing is really demoralising. I can only imagine how the players feel.
One thing is for sure they did our country proud, they proved they can match it with anyone on their day and the only thing that seperated us from them was the refs. Bilic coached a hell of a tournament and should be remembered for that.
I also feel we could have gone far in this tournament. Thats why i hate leaving it like this, the ‘Why!’ and ‘What if’ questions will always remain with me, just as with the last euro.
Before this tournament began i thought we were one of the weaker sides of the 16, but now after all that occured i sense we were in the upper scale of teams that competed.
Its really sad that it had to end this way, but hopefully we can reload and perform just as we have here in the qualifying campaign for WC 2014 to take top spot against our bitter rivals serbia.
@Jarac
Also agree about too many flops mucking up the works. Hate flopping.
@Agent Argentina
I can’t believe we’re still discussing this but it was absolutely offisdes . . . that is if you agree Navas was in an offsides position when the ball was played forward to Iniesta. He was passive, yes, but only until he received the ball. That’s when the whistle should’ve blown (well, should’ve blown for the handball but that’s another story).
This absolutely follows FIFA’s interpretation of offsides, passive offsides, etc. The minute Navas impacted the play his passive offsides became active. As has been stated, if Iniesta booted it straight in (and was onsides originally), it counts.
What really matters is we’re out and the goal wasn’t the only dagger. But it wasn’t a legal goal.
@Jarac
Your possession argument isn’t valid because both teams had equal foul numbers (16). The Croats took 6 yellows though, to the Spanish 0. So their better possession numbers also warrant “harder” fouls? I don’t buy it. I watched the same game you did and I didn’t see one side committing all the yellows. That was my point.
At least we both are in agreement that it isn’t fair and it was lopsided officiating.
I agree, at the end of the day the game of football is won on how many times the ball hits the back of the net and not how many times the refs blow a call. With that said, the Spanish goal was still offsides–read the FIFA regulations for offsides rule and you’d know. But 1-0 against the defending world champs and european champs is an accomplishment ! I haven’t seen Spain sweat one out like this for awhile. And there’s no need to imagine how good Croatia would be if it had a larger population. Only 11 players are needed on a pitch and Croatia has a proven pool of talent in youngsters but they have to learn how to develop these young talents in a serious methodical way and that’s the key to the future of Croatian football… not how many but quality above all. Croatia doesn’t even have a national training facility for its national team ?????? Go figure, if Croatia thought about the future a little bit… they’d be better off in the long run. Develop, train and find those young talents without daddy paying some bribe to some two bit greasy manager who’s last concern is talent. That has to change. The best young players I’ve seen in Croatia are the ones from small villages and poor… give those hungry kids a shot and you have the future makings of a powerhouse generation of players. But that’s a mentality change and that might take time. Croatian football has to go through massive changes that say talent comes first always! Bold ideas are for bold men and everything else is for little boys with no ideas at all. Long live Croatia !!!!
Guys, check me out on world football daily. They will have a live show from 10-11am (PST)(Los angeles time)… I will be on the show at 10:30am live..

The Spanish goal wasn’t offside, Jesus Navas WAS off when the pass was given to Iniesta but when Iniesta offloads Navas isn’t off, however the ref could have called handball, because as it wasn’t flagrant he still had no intention of letting the ball pass so he used his arms.
is it fair, no, but thats life
@Pintar
U can bitch and moan all day loan about the refs, this isn’t the only game where the refs weren’t calling penalties in the box. I would blame it more on the players for flopping so much that refs have a hard time telling what is and isn’t a foul. Anyways the logic is you don’t leave it up to the refs by scoring a goal when u get a chance. Every athlete who has ever competed at a higher level knows that u cant trust a referee and therefor u need to NOT LEAVE IT UP TO THEM. Again u do this by converting on ur opportunities. Bottom line is we didn’t score, that wasn’t the refs faults that was our faults. Rakitic had the golden chance and missed. With ur argument of yellow cards vs us, hey listen when ur the big boys, the champs there is bias and the refs give calls ur way, meaning there on ur side. Happens in every sport. And second with spain having possession most of the game of course there would be more fouls committed on our end!
Imagine before you’re about to play in a game the ref tells you: “listen, they are better than you, so we’re going to give ALL the close calls to them, life isn’t fair, good luck!”
What happened to “level playing field”?
But I’m supposed to “tolerate” my kid being discriminated against because he’s white (affirmative action, protected “minorities”, employment quotas, mass foreign-race immigration and “assimilation” for EVERY and ONLY White countries, etc) so as to “level the playing field” (i.e. tilt the playing field)?
Why did Croatians “bitch” for a thousand years for Independence? Why didn’t they just “tolerate” their overlordship?
Some of you have wrong meanings of words.
Does anyone have any Idea on how Igor will run this team?
I preseume guys like Oilc and Da Silva will be retiring during the year for the HNS?
This is interesting. Check out this game that Stark refferred in November, this time it’s Portugal vs. Bosnia. Maybe he just hates the former countries of Yugoslavia.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=HcafLtUp96M#!
How was allowed to ref another match is beyond me after viewing the video I posted.
.
Now the most important question for the next year: CAN IGOR STIMAC AND HIS PLAYERS LEAD US TO VICTORY AGAINST SERBIA IN 2013? Until then nothing else matters.
@Armada
But what can we do for these games with Serbia. I would hope there is a massive police presence. Serbia’s team has really fallen since the world cup. Does anyone see them as a serious threat in the group?
80,000 euros is a slap on the wrist.
I just hope our fans don’t do anything REALLY stupid during our quals vs. Serbia. Of course there will be some fights, violence – but if we already have this under our belt and then do something catastrophically stupid, we’ll get points docked for sure
The fine has come in 80,000 euros thats it. LOL I thought we would be fined with a point deduction somewhere in the future.
@Jarac
I hear what you’re saying about taking responsibility for your own mistakes rather than blaming outside forces, but sometimes things stink so much they have to be mentioned.
Reffing and the chances of which you speak are inseperable. Even the best teams, in almost any game, have more chances than actual successes. Spain had many yesterday before converting on an illegal play. To say that we just can’t “leave it up to the refs” is ignoring a major problem. Six yellow cards to none. Two potential penalties to be called (none even close for Spain), the last of which pulled Corluka down so hard his shoulder ended up hitting the ball over the bar, clearly altering the play significantly. And an obvious handball/offsides goal. Ridiculous. What reffing like that does is so limit the chances you have that it makes it nearly impossible to overcome. Simply convert on the limited chances we’re given? The best teams in the world don’t even convert every time.
And lastly, if the match is fixed, and I haven’t gone this far but the evidence isn’t good . . . if it’s fixed, what the hell does “converting your chances” have to do with it? You don’t think a crooked ref could nullify the Rakitic goal even if he scores? Or call a weak penalty for Spain moments later to allow them to equalize. Surely we all remember the Maradona handball goal from ’86. I can’t believe the crazy shit I sometimes see in these games that isn’t called correctly.
Of course the reffing matters and is worth mentioning! It has a huge impact on the game. If you are willing to just accept this as the way it is rather than rage against it, I’m sorry. I’m with Wallace on this one.
You can’t tolerate what is unacceptable.
In the end, I’m proud of how the team played. Luck/reffing could’ve been on our side some more: calls against us: no penalty call for jelavic vs italy, light foul call to set up pirlo goal, mandzo takedown vs spain, corluka body slam vs spain, no offside on spanish goal vs calls for us: no penalty call on schindenfeld when he ran through keane in the ireland match. I can’t help but keep imagining what could’ve been if rakitic would’ve made that header and how it would’ve been a historic win, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes. the team showed they can hang with the best in the world, Bilic was impressive as a coach throughout the tournament and in the playoff with turkey, the team showed fight and heart (especially the backline who was the big question mark. props to schindenfeld and pletikosa for both putitng in very good tournaments I thought, and strinic for stepping up). perhaps most importantly, I think there is potential for future success. This core group (with the exception of maybe srna) has at least another 6 years to go with mandzo, jelavic, and perisic still coming into their prime. Our biggest question mark was our defense which was in a transitional period and should hopefully only get better with the maturation of lovren, strinic, and vida (possible additions of vrsalko down the road could help as well). To me, one of the biggest questions marks going forward may be who will be the next goalie. I was really impressed with pletikosa this tournament and I think goalies do have a longer shelf life than regular players so he can continue to hang around for a while, but eventually there will need to be a plan b
The day after usually sucks. You still imagine what could have been.
Every sport has officiating problems, especially when you are going up against one of the big boys. You have to play perfect and hope the tight calls go your way. It didn’t last night.
So, what are we left with now? We wait for UEFA’s ruling on the behavior of our fans. I just read that the flare thrown on the field yesterday was committed by a Russian who was sitting above our fans. So, at least we don’t get the blame for that. It also proves to me that UEFA and maybe our own savez is actually digging deeper to find out who was doing this. Hopefully no point deduction.
Let the Stimac era begin…..which is a another topic all together.
@Allen:
I am glad to see you are so positive. Keep it up.
if we dont get expelled?
I’ll start planning my trip!
Now we plan where to watch the Croatia/Serbia game on march 22nd, 2013.
I say we all watch it together in Las Vegas for one heel of a weekend.
Who’s with me on this?
Man, people felt so bad for me at the bar after that loss, I got more free drinks than a naked model would have at a bar. I’m gutted, but we still had a hell of a showing. Everyone I talked to about Euro today is just raving about how our guys did, especially against Spain. Mandzukic was a thrill to watch and I hope some people have just a little more respect for Pleti now. So, who’s going to any of the WC qualifiers?
I can rip, cry, moan, and bitch about everything that happened. I’ll still call Ivan Rakitic the goat for the next two years after one of the worst misses I’ve ever seen. A lot of things didn’t go our way, but Croatia fought and fought! I’m damn proud of Croatia and this was an incredible tournament. The team brought respect and credibility back after these last two games playing with the best in the world. It still hurts and I’m still really bummed but at least Croatia didn’t lay down. I rather be devastated than realize my team was a complete push over with no chance. Schildenfield shut my ass up big time, amazing performance.
Despite breakout performances from Schildy and Manzo this tournament, Ivan Strinic wins my vote as unsung star for Croatia. Excellent 3 games by him, so proud of him.
@all who are bitching about the referees
Listen this is just the way it is. The better teams get the calls! The superstars always have the refs on there side, look at kobe or jordan, lebron, etc. THIS IS WHY U DONT LEAVE IT UP TO THE REFS. HOW DO U DO THIS? U SCORE WHEN GIVEN A CHANCE, WE HAD THAT CHANCE WITH RAKITIC AND HE BLEW IT. OH WELL CANT DO MUCH ABOUT IT NOW.
Makes you think how good Croatia would be if our population was 45 million instead of 4.5.
Croatia, like most Eastern European countries, is at such a disadvantage with our resources to develop players. Yet, we’ve consistently remained in and around the top 10 in the World. That is an unbelieveable achievement.
None of our neighbors have come close to what we have achieved.
Our domestic league is weak and corrupt – on top of the fact that all Eastern European leagues lose their best players to the rich Western countries (makes you wonder how Crvena Zvezda ever won the EC in 1991), yet Croatia still finds a way to do it without club support.
Real Madrid and Barcelona feed the Spanish national side with their rich/powerful organizations. The same with Italy, Engand, Germany, etc.
Yet, we played with a few ex-Dinamo/Hajduk players and some diaspora and almost beat the World Champions. Is it really fair to demand so much? We are certainly proud, but, are we truly grateful? Does anyone else see this bigger picture?
Derserved to advance. Deeply dissapointed we didn’t, but cant be dissapointed with the way we played our 3 games. Any other group it might’ve been a different story.
I have been a big critic of bilic over the course of the last 4 years, but i have to admit he did a great job on coaching the team throughout this tournament. I doubt many would’ve done any better. Bilic deserves our congratulations.
Had the ref’s called the right decisions, had that rakitic header hit the back of the net, if ireland had not been so insipid. Who knows what might’ve been.
Croatia showed that they can hang with the best of them, and they can be proud of the way they played. They are definitely not leaving the group stage like they did in 2002,2004 and 2006 with uncertainty in the way they performed.
Football can be a cruel game sometimes just as in life it isn’t always fair, and it definitely felt UEFA didn’t want us in their last 8. Penalties not given, free kicks against, hanballs and offsides! I mean come on man! how many decisions can they mess up in our games?
I feel down and heart broken now, but i hope that they carry this sort of confidence and determination through to the next WC qualifying stage.
Nothing left to do but see how the rest of the tournament unfolds. At least from now on i wont be a nervous wreck.
Now my support switches over to the czech republic, its in my bloodline but its not srce, i still wish them the best to cause an upset.
This game was fixed BIG TIME!
It was disgusting.
For God sake even the Spanish Press is telling the world the ref helped them by not calling 2 pks. Yet a casual shirt tug gets a PK against AC Milan when they play Uefalona but Corluka litterally had his shirt ripped of with two handfuls of jersey. Why all these extra refs when they are all useless. What a joke. What gets me about the offside goal is how these announcers just ignore it or try to justify the call. Man they must think we are complete morons sheeple to believe that spin. Spain should have been out today and if the refs werent on the take germany should have been out too. The non call on Bendtner was a farce just like this tournament. If UEFA wants a Spain Germany final so badly why even bother inviting the small countries if we never get a fair shake.
Pathetic!
@Bobby V, great job describing why it was offside. Why has NOBODY on tv given a description? Regarding the phantom foul that led to Italy’s goal, why was NOT ONE highlight of said “foul” shown during, nor after the game? Even the “foul” that led to Ireland’s goal was very questionable – a ticky-tack call on Corluka.
Mandzukic was taking a shot at goal in the box when he was fouled in a manner that should have drawn a yellow card; okay, it’s at the edge of the box so perhaps that would have been harsh on Spain – but as a ref you keep that in mind. Then when Corluka gets pulled down in the box but STILL gets his head on the ball – THEN that’s what should get called. – If you ALSO let that go, then how can you NOT call offside on Spain later? – If that’s not one-sided referring, I don’t know what is. – because it’s like Spain dominated the game, they only dominated possession, not the game.
When people tell you “stop crying”, they are telling you to “tolerate” what they want you to “tolerate”.
FUCK YOU!
@Mishko:
What about Ireland? Their economy is crap.
Good Night everybody. It was fun while it lasted.
@Permutations yes you were correct in assumptions. Navas was in a passive offside situation, so if Iniesta would have shot on goal and the ball bounced to Navas, that would have been legal. The pass directly to Navas was illegal.
Anyone else notice that the countries with the most amount of debt and in default situations in the EU are the ones getting the calls. Hey, just saying.
@Permutations:
Modric follows orders for club and country. If the manager tells him to do X he does X.
I think he has his strengths like any player and it is up to his manager to harness his abilities.
Permutations,
I think u have been hitting the pipe a little to hard. How are we still recovering from the kovac brothers? I think some of u place some values that don’t really matter much. Here are some examples of shit that doesn’t matter when ur a professional or doesn’t really have influence on the game.
HEART, LEADERSHIP, PRESS CONFERENCE, WHAT IS SAID BY THE PLAYERS OR COACHES. This shit doesn’t matter. We didn’t loose today cause we lacked leadership, we lost today cause we couldn’t convert on our chances and spain did, had nothing to do with a gaping hole from the kovac bros.
Modric is a magician with the ball, he doesn’t score through, but that is not his job. He gets that ball from the back third to the front third in no time. And his passing is precise and rarely turns it over!!
Modric is a wonderful little player – a joy to watch – at times. At times. His inconsistency and his disappearing acts keep him from being elite. He was not very good in the first two games. You’ve heard before and you’ll hear it again: “when Modric plays well, Croatia plays well.” That is true. Problem is, Modric doesn’t play well enough most games…he hides on the pitch.
Anyhow, Croatia still hasn’t recovered from the Kovac bros. retirement, and probably won’t for a very long time… there’s a gaping hole in the leadership department. And I see no one on the horizon. Sadly. Not taking anything away from Mandzukic, but if he’s the guy giving the best effort on the field – Zagrebe, we have a problem.
I believe the ESPN analysts agreed to agree that the goal was from an onside play. If Iniesta was offside, he was offside by inches. Navas was clearly ahead of the line, but the ball wasn’t passed to him….
Now, the whistle should have been blown when Iniesta corraled/directed the ball with his shoulder. You can’t do that in soccer. It’s just like using your palm. Directing the ball with your shoulder is against the laws of the game.
So after Iniesta gets away with being offside by inches, he proceeds to use his shoulder not even to trap, but to direct the ball – gets away with it – and slips an onside pass (Navas was behind Iniesta at that point) to Navas who, and here’s the point of contention, is offside from Fabregas’ initial pass to Iniesta?!
I think, and I’m probably wrong here, that if Iniesta shoots and scores – the goal stands…. but the fact that he played the ball to Navas who was offside by a mile from Fabregas’ pass, the goal should have been disallowed. But who the f*ck knows anymore.
A 0-0 result doesn’t get us through… and it’s doubtful Croatia would have mustered another meaningful attack after that.
The world is irreparably corrupt, and that is reflected in organized football. The governing bodies of the sport are not about “Fair-play,” “Respect,” or “anti-racism.” Those are slogans they use to masquerade hardcore deceit and corruption. Much like most democratic Western governments that hide their bare interests and cynicism behind slogans like “democracy” and “human rights.”
Croatia will never get a fair-shake at these major tournaments, and those that dream of winning one before they die are, no offense, hitting the pipe a bit too much…
More from the Spanish media admitting that Croatia should have been awarded 2 penalties. Again, if this were Croatian newspapers, I wouldn’t bother posting. Not crying either, just pointing out that this is quite interesting.

@Permutations:
How is Modric not elite? Titles, don’t correspond linearly to an individual’s performance.
I just rewatched the game. Our chances were more threatening. All of Spain’s attempts were weak, from distance, from bad angles or offsides.
Corluka was clearly Judo flipped in the box and Ramos is still a 1st class ass sniffing dirty player.
@Mihovil:
I can’t believe the ESPN announcers didn’t even mention the possibility of an offsides. I officially want to go on record and say that I want to stab Alexi Lalas in the grundle again.
@Permutations – Thanks for letting us know you think he’s World Class – and I never said he was as good as Xavi. We’ll leave it at that. The quotes from Del Bosque, Xavi and Iniesta are from all over…not just Index.hr.
I don’t judge players by titles. A great player cannot control who his teammates are. Modric is 6 years younger – he’s making his move now to start winning some. We’ll see.
@Boston Cro – where did you live? I’m in Haverhill, Ma.
@Mainzfeldki
Yes, I think Ilicevic has potential to be the RM. He needs to stay healthy and remain hungry.
Bobbo,
You cite INDEX.YU as a source. Pametnom dovoljno.
You see, it’s not that I dislike Modric, or think he isn’t world-class – it’s that jerks like you do him a huge disservice by comparing him to accomplished mid-field wizards with titles under their belts….and that have been performing for years.
Modric is a great player, but he’s not elite. And the attention he gets is undeserved. All with a morsel of objectivity know that, except those of you that consider INDEX.YU a reputable portal….
Correspondence: terminated.
@ BostonCro
Ilicevic for RM?
Have to agree with BobbyV that it was offside. In the end, we didn’t advance since we didn’t score. Too bad, I think this team was capable of making a nice run in the tournament.
It will be interesting to see what the team will look like in September. Probably the last we’ve seen of Simunic and possibly Pranjic. I think Strinic has laid claim to the LB position and Perisic to the LM. I’d prefer to see Srna as RB, which leaves RM up for grabs. Rakitic is the one guy on the team who does not step up his game when playing for the NT. Most of the other guys play much better for NT than they do for their club.
DAMN, they already blocked my video.
I’m going to Vimeo
Rakitic is a horrible player and the team-especially Pletikosa-should have kept playing after the offside. Play until the whistle goes. Modric was largely a non-factor in the whole tournament. This team has no guts.

@Bobby can you post some links brother?
Go to index.hr and read a few of the stories.
Del Bosque, Xavi and Iniesta praising Croatia and the SPANISH newspapers commenting on how Stark saved them two penalties (on Corluka’s shirt pull and slide tackle on Mandzukic) with pictures of both on the front page. -haha, pretty cool.
Another stated that this was the Spain of “old”. I guess we aren’t such homers after all and even the opposing fans see it the way we do.
@Mainzfeldski I posted it under my youtube account but have it unlisted so you can’t find it. You have to have this link.
It’s from my GoPro camera so it’s not perfect, but will do.

“Croatia robbed” could also refer to people investing in the country and having to deal with our political class.
BTW – I just googled Croatia Robbed within the past 24 hours and you get 3,600 results.
People are very impressed with our boys and know that Wolfgang Stark robbed us.
@ Mishko
Dailymotion, possibly?
Again, were can I upload the offside video I’ve got?
Regarding the off-side:
On the first pass, Navas was clearly in an offside position and he clearly gained an advantage on that. He interrupted the play by stopping Pletikosa from approaching Iniesta. In the same way that a player who is interfering with the goalie while being off-side as a teammate shoots on goal.
He cannot establish himself back on-side until the attacking play is over.
@Permutations: Modric was listed in the same sentence as Xavi when he was named to the Euro 2008 starting midfield all-tournament team 4 years ago. He is clearly near the top of the heap at the moment. Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United don’t throw large amounts of cash at “Mrtvo Puhalos” – Smarten up. Pametan nisi.
Casillas added: “Fortunately, I was running to the ball [referring to Rakitic’s header], [and] in the good place, and I could stop his header. I was feeling good tonight. And I left the pitch with happiness.”
Croatia will win an international tournament before I die. Please?
🙂
I’m going to record this off-sides from my TV with my cellphone were can I upload it so it won’t be removed?
http://www.zonalmarking.net/2012/06/18/spain-1-0-croatia-navas-snatches-late-winner/#more-8930
Why doesn’t this site start boycotting International tournaments instead of the HNL?
@Permutations
Now I know I really picked a bad day to quit drinking.
🙂
•Italy win 1-0 or 2-0, Croatia 1-1 Spain – Spain first, Croatia second
http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/3284/euro-2012/2012/06/18/3182191/euro-2012-group-c-permutations-italy-must-avoid-the-curse-of-2-2-
Pletikosa, Corluka, and Schildenfeld were stout against the #1 ranked country in the world. I am sorry to see the NT exit the tournament. But they generally looked great. If Bilic’s prediction is correct and the NT reaches its peak at WC 2014, we might see another run similar to ’98.
Unfortunately I couldn’t get to see the game as I was stuck away from a tv this afternoon. However I was nervously getting text updates and hoping for some good news. It was not to be. Been watching some highlights this evening and have read the comments here.
Proud of the game we played. These were the tactics I hoped Bilic would use…..soak up pressure, play more defensively and take our chances when they come. It’s nice to see people give him props because too many on this website are critical of him. I think he managed a good tourney. No shame in how we played or in losing to Spain 1-0.
If the irish helped us today, I think we could have gone far.
Thanks to the boys at CroatianSports.com for giving us this great spot to follow the team. I see some bright times for world cup qualifying…..should be a lot of fun seeing some of the young guys get a full shot.
In a different group, we advance and cause quarterfinal damage….not to be this time. Hrvatska!!!
@Bronk,
Seconded on everything you said, I didn’t even get upset at the result because it was really obvious to me that some shady shit went on in this game.
@Ziva:
What did I miss? The goal scorer did not seem eligible to receive a pass to me. Iniesta was inches offsides and the goal scorer was passively offsides and ineligible to receive a pass.
I have not looked at a rule book for a while, but I thought that was a pretty clear cut scenario.
Was the fix ever in with this game. Where to begin here.
16 fouls for Croatia 6 yellow cards. 16 fouls for Spain 0 cards. 2 obvious fouls in the box no PKs. Busquets practically ripped Corlukas shirt off. Why is there a ref behind the net for if an obvious call like that isnt made.
Finally the offside goal. Iniesta handballs the ball to bring it under control, then plays it to Navas who was a kilometer offside. The commentators trying to cover up the obvious blown call claim he wasn’t interfearing with the play. He just put it into an empty net how is that not gaining an advantage? The refs were not about to risk Uefalona Spain getting koed by small Croatia hence no calls.
Why do I get the vibe if we were wearing an England shirt today the result would have been different. We were completely robbed. In the Champions league I saw AC Milan get a PK called against them for a slight shirt tug against Uefalona. Busquets had 2 handfuls of jersey and nothing…what a joke!
The point is we needed GOALS.
1-1 draw gets us through despite the Italian 2-0 victory. If we tied 2-2, Italy could have beaten Ireland 27-0 and we still would have qualified.
Google is your friend.
@Bobby V, I’ll believe it when it happens. Thus far, I’ve seen nothing but smoke & mirrors from “Croatian” media that are just plain in love with the little guy. But nobody knows why!
Xavi doesn’t have to do anything – ever – again – for the rest of his life. Shame on you for even mentioning Modric & Xavi in the same sentence. Talk about ill-comparisons….Isuse, Boze, Gospe i apostoli.
@Permutations
“A 1-1 draw with Spain gets us through to the quarters amid an Italian 2-0 result.”
Really? How?
They did a lot better than I expected. Bravo to the defense for shutting my mouth and averaging only 1 goal per game. Unfortunately the best game that the team played was the one game we lost. We were spoiled that in every other game the few chances we produced turned to goals. Won’t happen every game.
Looking forward to the new Stimac regime. Curious to see whose getting the axe and which young guns will get their call ups.
Just so I can talk something other than ifs and buts, here’s my potential cut list:
Pletikosa – This one is a maybe. I think he had a great tournament and I’ve never been too big of a fan of his. With the lack of depth at keeper he may still have the keeper job in 2 years.
Simunic – Not even sure why he was on the final list. Thought he was solid for years but he’s been done for a while now.
Pranjic – With the current crop of midfielders and Strinic being a very solid LB i don’t see much more from the other little man on the team.
Dujmovic – I still think Vukojevic is a better midfield option as much as he may have been criticized this tournament. Could very well be a maybe since DM is probably the teams thinnest position.
Kranjcar – Will probably get chewed out for this, but he needs a lot of speed and quality around him for him to look good. I guess we will see how he fairs in Kiev.
Eduardo – If he can stay healthy for a full season at Shakhtar and get minutes he’s a maybe as well.
Kalinic – Still young and could turn it around. Thought we could have had another striker join the squad to at least train with the team.
@Permutations – How many players have transfered in the last few years at 30-40 million pounds or more? That’s what Luka is looking at. I’m going to believe the people who are putting their money where their mouths are over someone who can’t possibly know anything about soccer. Tell me, what did Xavi do today? Did he touch the ball?
Nije sramota biti Hrvat, al’ je peh!
ah ziva lipa pisma, lijepo li je hrvat biti, majko hvala ti!!!!
I think all of us feel the same right now…..
one song for all of us…….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCapOz_Djpk
“Tactically perfect game by Bilic…?”
A 1-1 draw with Spain gets us through to the quarters amid an Italian 2-0 result.
Instead of shooting it out with Spain – and possibly getting some goals – Bilic plays 4-5-1 for appx. 65 minutes against a timid and distinterested Spanish side.
Looks like no one in the stozer understood the permutations; and apparently Bilic thought Ireland would hold Italy to a nula…. hahahaha
Mandzukic player of the match and player of the tournament for Croatia.
The most over-rated player in the world (can’t really fault him, though – Bilic is a mad-man), Lukica “mrtvo puhalo” Modric showed mere flashes of lucidity. However, he is NOWHERE near the top of the heap, and most of you are just plain delusional.
I can count at least 3 sequences where he should have been asking for the ball – he hid instead. Like he hides most of the game.
One nice ball with time to spare with the outside of his foot – i to je sve. No organization, no vision, no drive. And to make matters worse, some of his dribbling in the CENTER of the pitch was unnecessary. Ali treba ici u R. Madrid, ne? Malo morgen!
@ dinamofan
I agree!
Our team did much better in the EUROs than the pre-Euro (including the Swedish) friendlies many of us were worried about.
I have a good feeling about the future young players.
Schildenfeld and Corluka can be proud of how they played in this tournament. Schildenfeld especially was at a level hes not played at before in his entire career and acquitted himself really well. Frankly he covered for other people a lot of the time and had to deal with most of the pressure. Pletikosa in my opinion also was faultless and as a Croatia players has been one of the stronger performers when it comes to major tournaments.
There isnt really a player who i’d criticise. A while ago i thought Bilic lost his way but he has actually left Croatia with something to build on now. In qualifying he seemed like he didnt know what to do but he found a team in the end which could play well. He managed to actually build a team for us. He cut out all the old players who werent running like Petric and Klasnic and brought in players with hunger.
I am most impressed by Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic from this tournament. I think Perisic was unlucky with a number of fine strikes in this tournament. I thought Perisic being taken out was the mistake we made. Pranjic didnt have any real threat, whereas Perisic could have defended just as well and worked as hard as he did and also threatened the opposition. I think Raki was out of position and i think he did well second half v Italy. The player i was least impressed with was Eduardo and I dont think Jelavic did a great deal in the last two games. I think we will see a better Jelavic next season. But Eduardo and Kranjcar i think need to work harder to get back in the starting eleven. If Jelavic has been ill i also think Kalinic should have been gambled on. He has got goals for us and some of these players look tired towards the end when we could have done with fresh legs.
I think retire Simunic and leave Petric, Olic, Pranjic to the fringes of the squad now and see if any new young players can come through.
DEVASTATED!!!!! Our boyz did us proud!!! i should of kept my mouth shut with the italians at the start of the tournament. So close…..now i have to face the music lol…..
Thanks Slaven!
You have made all Croatians proud today.
Bog I Hrvati!
I don’t know about u guys, but modric looked like the best player on the pitch today, look for a bidding war to happen soon. Pure class!
@ Slavonac
Just relooked at the highlights of the game to be sure if I wasn’t misconstruing anything.
http://www.caughtoffside.com/2012/06/18/video-spain-1-0-croatia-euro-2012-highlights/
(Time of attempt, before 3:00)
Rakitic was too close to Casillas to try to head the ball to the ground because Rakitic was running towards the ball, making such a trick difficult (Modric’s pass was moving towards Casillas, not away from him). If he did, Casillas would’ve easily intercepted Rakitic’s lowering motion (or, the ball would’ve hit Casillas in his chest). What Rakitic could’ve done is redirect the shot to the left or the extreme corner, but that is difficult to instantly ask for for a midfielder.
If that is an elementary trick any footballer should know, Casillas should be able to stop it.
Nothing to be ashamed of, Croatia played a very disciplined counter attacking game against Spain and the only way Spain could score was on an obvious first hand ball by Iniesta and two players offsides. This is football, you win some and you lose some but anybody who knows football knows that they were robbed at the end and the offsides was more than obvious. Shildenfeld played like a warrior in defense, his best show up to date and Rakitic could have trapped the ball and shot… there was no one near him. Great pass by Modric !!!! If Croatia has real money invested in its football, meaning development and a national training center like in Spain or Italy, they would terrify teams across the globe. Great job Croatia, build on this !
Bilic played the right line-up, and Croatia played almost a perfect game defensively. The were solid with checking and blocking. What irritated me so much is that Croatia just stopped and waited for a call on the Spain goal. Never ever stop! It was so frustrating to see them watching, and that’s why I feel upset, despite their stellar play through out most of the game.
@ Slavonac
You must be mistaken. What I have said were not opinions.
You said Rakitic “sucks.” Please tell me the following:
1) How much balls did Rakitic lose in today’s game compared to the game against Italy? Not as much. I said that Rakitic sucked in the Italian game, but here, he showed more promise. Find an opinion in this statement. I dare you to.
2) What was Rakitic’s job in Bilic’s lineup? From what I saw, Rakitic was given an assignment with Vukojevic to strengthening the defensive line and interrupting the Spanish midfield, which was the heart of the Spanish offense. Have we conceded a goal because of Rakitic?
NO! The defense was excellently pulled off, and we can only praise Rakitic’s efforts. Now tell me, how was Rakitic compared to Vuko? Vuko wasn’t being offensive at all, from what I saw.
Rakitic did lose possession, but refer to question #1. Did the lost possession threaten our scoreline? Nope.
Are you saying Rakitic sucks because a midfielder shouldn’t be losing possession? Tell me who were playing against and where most of the game was played (on our side or the middle). When I see Rakitic’s efforts against a grand Spanish side, I can only be proud of him.
3) Did he suck because he didn’t score the header? You must not know football if you depend on a defensive-sided midfielder to score. Where’s Mandzukic?
Like I said before, Rakitic may have been surprised. But it was an opportunity. Who doesn’t get excited at the big stage for an opportunity? I saw the game, and I didn’t see what Rakitic could’ve done differently. I’m sure that bouncing the ball off the ground would’ve turned out the same. Just look at Casillas.
Next time, when you bash a player, don’t rely on your “I’m angry because a non-striker missed the only true chance of the game besides Perisic” glasses.
Rakitic wasn’t perfect, but he wasn’t horrible when looking at his role. If you have a problem with his heading, become a professional footballer.
@ Navas being offside.
Navas wasn’t offside. A player being passively offside is not counted as offside if he doesn’t touch the ball. Iniesta, on the other hand, was offside. Navas handled the ball too.
But to correct myself, Navas wasn’t offside.
Nobody on the Spanish national team have anything on Modric – World Class. He was visibly tired with 10 minutes left – hands on hips and bending over, but an exceptional performance.
I’ve been watching soccer for the last 50 years -told everyone about Schifo last match and was shot down. He’s not flashy by any means, but very intelligent.
Goal was offside. If Iniesta shot on goal, Navas would not have been eligible for the rebound, so, why is he eligible to recieve a pass?
Excellent tactics by Bilic, he out-coached Del Bosque, but the substitutes did not produce enough/what I expected.
Spain’s defence was very suspect – we didn’t expose them enough. They also almost had to pass the ball into the net to score this entire tournament. Villa was out, Torres most overrated forward in Europe (Ireland game meant nothing, moja Baba could score against them) and nobody else. Champions without a striker. Wow.
Has FIFA allowed shirt-pulling again? Used to be an automatic yellow. Also, when Mandzukic was slid into inside the box, the Spanish player won the ball first, but I thought the rule was changed to a reckless play whether you win the ball or not. Corluka was called for something similiar in the Italy game.
Proud of the team and the fans. Need Jelavic and Perisic to gain more experience and maybe Kovacic will be ready for the next Euros.
Bravo momci! Idemodalje.
I’m late to the party…sucks to see them go out but I’m not disappointed. In my opinion Bilic played the right starters, right formation and made the right substitutions, and overall they played a good match. I hope they’re confident going into the next campaign, especially with matches against the Serbs . I know there are a lot of Bilic critics but overall I think he did a hell of a job during his tenure. Let’s hope Stimac can keep it going.
At the end of the day, the offside issue is moot. Croatia needed to score.
A part of me was actually hoping Croatia would concede a goal to Spain earlier so Spain would invite Croatia to attack. With Italy only at 1-0, a 1-1 result would have seen us through.
Modric was pure class tonight. That is the player that people rave about.
I thought Vida was out of place in the first 15 minutes. I know I was cursing his name more than once.
Rakitic…. if I remember correclty, was it him that was offside or played the ball to a player offisde in the Turkey match? Just not meant to be today also. But a lesson – they teach you to head the ball down to the ground for a reason.
The future? I think it looks bright. I really do. I think we have two more cycles of Modric. One more of Srna. Perisic will only get better. I like how Vukojevic plays. I thought Strinic was the surprise of the tournament. Vida will improve as will Lovren. Corluka should be around for another two cycles. Rakitic should improve. Some kids floating around that might make the jump. Call me a blind optimist.
I hope Strinic, Schildenfeld and Corluka can all spin their performances at the Euro into new deals or moves to different teams.
Especially Schifo… I’ve only seen the rare highlight or two from that dude and only really have had his NT games to judge, but the dude is a fuckin trooper and a quality defender it seems like. Dude deserves to play nogomet in a first league some place…
@Ziva…is this true…cause even soccernet said it was clearly offside?
Bravo Hrvatska, we are proud of you!
Thanks to all the boys from Croatian Sports.
http://tinyurl.com/8yffpkq
@Boston Cro…..the goal scorer was not offside. By the present-day interpretation of the offisde rule, he was OK.
Jebiga, this is sports. The thoughts that were flying through my head as Modric made that run and eventual pass to Rakitic for the header…..what might have been???
As for the future….good luck to Bilic. Coaching at the club level is a bitch and he will eventually get fired a few times and also coach his way around Europe. I think he’ll be back one day with the national side (10-15 years), but he delivered entertaining soccer for all of us once the teams got to the big stage. WC 02, 06 and Euro 04…you can’t really say we played attractive soccer once we got to the big stage. We did here.
The ball is with Stimac now. maybe he will be able to bring in some discipline to guys like Mandzukic and his boy Srna (you cant cry all the time when hit or fouled).
At least we can watch the remiander of the Euros in peace.
Why, Why, Why ?
Strinic has impressed me in this tournament and I can see him playing in the Italian league…
@ Mainzfeldski – not sure if you’ve ever played soccer at any level and I dont really want to argue this point with you as i see your opinions are opinions…ok…but not necessarily from much experience…every player should know to aim down in that situation for 2 reasons 1) it may bounce and as the goalie is reacting and going down it normally will bounce over them…2) very difficult to get down that quick…hence the fact that it was so easy for Casillas cause it was right at him…
Bravo momci neka samo naprid everyone said we were a joke and we would get scored on atleat 2 againt italy and spain would score 3 on us Proud performace its sad but life goes on Thanks Bilic hope to se you in the future for us again you have proven that nice play in qualifying means nothing all that matters i getting to tournament where anything is possible, Spain will not reach the finals France or England will beat them mark my words and those guidos who without pirlo will be nothing when he retires all the best but i am not gonna watch unitl the final because platini and uefa make me sick. Bravo momci!
For once in my life I agree with Ziva…modric was great and can defiantly play for any team in any system!
Schildy a possible starter for Croatia in the future? RB: corluka CB: lovren CB schildy LB: strinic
Goal scorer was in offside position at the time of the first pass. Should not have counted. Even though a 0-0 score would have eliminated us, we deserved better. Plus, a tie against Spain would have helped our coefficients. Great game from the lads — Schildenfeld was named MoM by ESPNFC.
@ Josip B
Spain has a higher goal differential (+ 4) than us in that hypothetical situation (+2). Head-to-head would’ve been the same.
I’m not sure, but Italy would’ve advanced by the FIFA Rankings rule, along with Spain.
I am crying . I will be depressed for long while . Jebe me
“If it ended 1-1 and italy 2-0 …would we have gone on ??”
Evidently yes. From what I’m seeing elsewhere, after the 2nd Italy goal, a 1-1 result would have put us and Italy through on goal differential?
@Josip B…..here is the thing in the kranjcar v Rakitic debate. I do think Kranjcar gives you more on the offensive end, but would have Kranjcar been able to defend like Rakitic today. I doubt it.
I don’t think Rakitic had a good game. I thought there were too many balls that he gave away. That said, the way Spain plays it forces you to make sure you are on top of your defensive assignments and I can’t really fault any of our guys for that. But, man of man, if Rakitic could have that header back. What may have been?????
I though Vida looked nervous in the first 15 minutes, but settled down somewhat after he won a few duels and 50/50 balls.
We had a chance, it didn’t happen. We exit with our heads held high.
I wonder how much the bidding war for Modric went up after this game. He can play for any team and any system in the world. Pure class.
Also, a big heads up to some of the guys who were big question marks going in. Schildenfeld played about as good as he can today. Outstanding in my eyes.
If you’re going to go out in the group stage, that was the way to do it. Playing with heart and class.
What do you guys think? Would Kranjcar over Rakitic been better?
@ Slavonac
I didn’t say that Croatia had a problem. They played the best they could during these difficult circumstances. Just because I wanted Eduardo to play and not Jelavic does not mean that Croatia had a problem.
I was pleased with defending during the first half. Good to evade any early goals. But you can’t win a game with simply defending. Bilic excellently changed his tactics to provide offense… and we were close.
Rakitic did not suck. He was better than from the previous game.
Rakitic’s header was not a sitter. Casillas would’ve blocked it if Rakitic hit it another way. I was proud of Rakitic, and he knows the Spanish League: he knew their plays by experience and was able to stop David Silva and other Spaniards from advancing. Rakitic did the best he could, and the cross to him might have been alarming.
The entire starting team was excellent, especially Modric and Schildenfeld.
Yes I think oni su ukrali utakmicu @Ante we went for it all dude like we wanted balls to the wall no one on are side at fault all played well kudos to Bilic on tactics but the game was definitely stolen from us -U-
I think Slaven Bilic signed too early for Lokomotiv Moskou. With his qualities I could see him coaching for example a team as Tottenham.
But Slaven doesn’t leave a mess behind. Igor Stimac will have talented young players to build a new team. I knew already how talented players as Modric, Rakitic, Srna, Jelavic and Corluka were. But Pleti, Schildenfield, Perisic, Strinic, Vuko and Vida(today) showed there’s much more.
Okay, we’re out but tomorrow at work, we will not be laughed at about our football.
@ DinamoDennis
No.
If it ended 1-1 and italy 2-0 …would we have gone on ??
If it ended 1-1 and italy 2-0 …would we have gone on ?
Even excluding the missed goal opportunity, Rakitic was the only player that stood out to me by not stepping it up or doing much of anything. I made a post about “losing confidence” in Rakitic well before the goal attempt. The vast majority of our team seemed to step up, and pleasantly surprise me in some way. Rakitic seemed invisible most of the time.
Mainzfeldski – croatia didnt have a problem today…most countries have to play this way against spain…they are incredibly talented…and when they do defend they have to attack in numbers…croatia played this game incredibly well today…possession doesnt win games and our chances were better than theirs!
ohhh…and trust me…Rakitic did suck! he’s a defensive liability…and with regards to Mr Black…please save the comment “Okay, he failed to score today but the guy is a midfielder”…that doesnt matter at this level…midfielders are expected to know the basics of the game…when you get a free head ball 6 yards out…hit it towards the ground…every single pocetnik knows that!
@Jarac you couldn’t have said it any better -U-
It sucks we’re out, but no need in over analyzing shit and going crazy over it. Offside or not, our boys played some inspired football. You could play “what if” until the WC quals in September, but the fact is our results were pretty much all expected:
-vs. ROI: We were the favorites and expected to take the 3 points
-vs. ITA: We were expected to either tie or win by a razor slim margin
-vs. ESP: We were expected to tie, at the very least or lose to them
Hold your heads high momci, Bilic went out on a good note, the boys played their hearts out and aside from some luck, we just missed out on the quarterfinals.
Now we can start bullshitting about the friendly with Switzerland in August, the WC quals and of course, the ultimate death match between us and the Serbs next March
@Ziva,
We couldn’t have played this game any better. Great strategy, we had the best opportunity for goal, couldn’t put it in. In a game as close as this one, croatia did not have any luck. I gotta start going to church more.
“I posebno vam Balotelli jebo majku. Bananom.”
I have to admit, right or wrong, that made me laugh.
FUCK EU AND UEFA PITCKE CIGANSKE MUCKO DUBRAD SRAM VAS BILO PITCKE AJMO NASI GLAVE GORE
@Mr. Black…….all I can see is that was one hell of an effort by our guys. Ohh so close with the Rakitic header. THere was a big gap in talent on that field tonight and our guys almost pulled it off.
Modric is an absolute stud.
I’m sure there weill be a ton of analysis about the game, but I quite honestly dont know what more we could have done. If we start the game in our trypical 4-4-2 would we have had any more chances than what we did. I don’t know and I don’t pretend to know.
I’m proud of the effort tonight. We played Spain the only we could play them.
Nervs are shot- I’m proud of the way they played today as well as their time in the tourney.
Lets gear up for WC Qualifiers and watching Luka at Chelsea.
Off to Trogir-
@ Mr. Black
Very true about Rakitic.
I still feel that Jelavic shouldn’t have been subbed in. The problem was that we had trouble getting our offense going, not creating on-target chances (which was the second worry).
I really wanted Eduardo to play alongside Mandzukic, but Bilic knows way better about their conditions.
One of my good Spanish friends saw the goal and immediately called it offside and a handball. He was mad (what a good sport!), but I congratulated the Spanish team. They deserved it with all their talent and defensive accord.
What a shame for us. 🙂
Decki, svaka vam cast!! Boys played well and held their own!
There is not one Spanish player better than Luka Modric. Luka was great today.
Must cheer for the Germans!!!!
I cant believe FUCK PLATINI AND HIS ARAB TALIBAN FRENCH TEAM BUNCH OF TERRORITS!
No calls on our behalf what else is new dissapointed in the reff Like čome on really should of called a handball on Iniesta im suprised the reff didnt throw one of our guys out for dissent or something stupid Like that oh well WC qualifiers next ajmo naprid momci keep your heads high you deserved atleast the draw za dom -U-
Croatia was fighting an up hill battle they couldn’t win anyway. Where was the penalty for the Mandzukic foul by Ramos.
Wolfgang was handing us out free yellow cards left & right, except for the Jelavic hand ball which was obvious.
Very pleased how we matched up to the worlds best with an advantage in their favor.
And so goes the end of yet another tournament. We might have one more go around at WC 2014 but I don’t see us on the stage after that because our players are slowly getting older. That said, nasa vatra dalje gori. Back to being a dinamovac now
Slavonac from Canada : I don’t agree what you say about Ivan Rakitic. He played a great tournament. We should be proud to have someone like him in the team.
Okay, he failed to score today but the guy is a midfielder. How often does he ends up in a situation like that. Give the guy credit for the way he showed up there.
Fifa is corrupt, don’t even sweat it. Two non-call penalties, non-call penalty vs Italy and offside Spanish goal today, JOKE.
Proud of the boys, bravo for the effort and nothing to be ashamed of. It wasn’t in Fifa’s script for us to advance, oh well.
@Slavonac from Canada
“Croatia played amazingly well amd I’m so proud of them…the goal was offside…i called it right away…I’d like to hear what Bilic is gonna have to say about this?”
Offside for sure!
disappionting. but overall I think this team gave everyone a lot more than was expected and showed on any given day they can play with anyone. arguably if croatia knew they didn’t need a goal, they probably could’ve remained more defensive and made that last spanish goal much tougher to come by. world cup next. new coach. we still have a lot of players that are you and coming up (mandzukic, jelavic, perisic, rakitic (still only 22 or 23), vida, strinic (who showed some big positive signs this tournament) and a core that remains still in there prime (modric, srna, corluka).
Great effort from the team today, a bit unlucky. Was anyone else laughing at Mandžukić’s dancing/step-over sequence? Good job on not turning it over on that play (which I was sure he was going to do).
Fucking Bull shit -U-
I’m not sure if many here feel the same…that goal was offside…Navas was offside and he ended up being the goalscorer…i just wanted to see if I was a homer and I read it on soccernet commentary…here is the exact commentary:
[Comment from Zenos]
offsides on both of them…
[Comment from Jason]
Clear offside.
[Comment from CB]
Wow. Letoff for Spain.
James Tyler: Iniesta breaks the offside trap! Squares it for Navas, and while the Croatian defense stands around begging for a flag, the sub taps it home. Iniesta looked onside, but what about Navas?
ESPN Stats and Info: Navas’ goal in the 88th minute is the latest goal scored in the tournament.”
on another note…I’ve been pretty vocal about my dislike of Rakitic in this tournament and I’ll say it again…regardless of if he scored or not he is a selfish non responsible piece of crap! unless the opposing player is within 2 feet of him he doesnt get goal side and fight for the defensive position…and they just easily walk right around him…everyone on Croatia played extremely well, with discipline, patience and a huge amout of professionalism…Rakitic is gonna be in the first night club when he gets home and forget about this…SELFISH! thats what he is…I cant stand him anymore!
Croatia played amazingly well amd I’m so proud of them…the goal was offside…i called it right away…I’d like to hear what Bilic is gonna have to say about this?
@ CroRupt
Iniesta’s hand was sticking out in the first offside position. Second, Navas was offside in the second pass (debatable). Third, Navas’ handling of the ball was handball.
franjo Tudjman : Okay, Spain has more talent than Croatia but if Modric and Srna would be Spanish, Aberloa and Xavi Alonso would on the bench for Spain this tournament.
hats of to schindenfeld, played a great game. Luka modric played exceptional. Jebiga, can’t wait for world cup qualifiers. We will have a great team for WC as well. I will be in brazil 2014, if anyone wants to meet me there ur more than welcome.
They did their best. Za Dom Spremni….TATATATTATATTATATATATTA…RELOAD
i saw no offsides
Bravo Nasi and Matan Svaka Cast nisam moga bolje reci
A valiant effort momci. They clearly gave it everything they had… you can’t ask for much more. They had so many “almost” chances, but in the end you make your own luck, and we probably made ours in the qualifiers when we put ourselves in position to end up in a group with Italy and Spain. Nevertheless, nothing to be ashamed of. Uvijek vijerni, za dom spremni
We’re out but he proved the world that Croatia still has some great players. Spain had to fight until the 88th minute to beat us. I don’t think a lot of teams at Euro 2012 will be able to do that. Thank you to all the players(without any exception), they all did a great job. It’s pity there are a lot of fucking Italians living in my city who will be driving around with their car and making noise. Also thank you Croatiansports.com. This was a nice way to follow Euro 2012.
And Ziva Istina: I love your realistic point of view but I think that even you believed that we could beat those Spaniards the last ten minutes.
FYI, watching the post game and they’re not showing the Spanish goal from the LINE. It’s offsides, and that German POS Ballach(sp.) is a lying sack of shit.
Wolf Gang Stark dont expect to vacation on our side of the adriatic coast picka ti materina smece jedno 2 cista penala two clean penalties I am proud italy didnt deserve to go through fucken lucky zabari ali offide goal good job ref.
When Croatia gets points taken away from WC qualifying b/c of “raaacism”, it’s NOT b/c of “raaacism”, it’s b/c of pussies like Toronto Croatia who repeat anti-white lines we’ve all heard tens of thousands of times – that is what is an embarrassment.
Our next meaningful match is next September (Macedonia qualifier) New coach, probably more of the new generation filling out the starting XI. Are boys did us proud though, but it still sucks going out in the groups….
blehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Svim govnima koji opravdavaju UEFA/FIFA-u jebem majku po sred picke (vi znate tko ste). Jebo vam Michel Platini majku. Jebo vam sudac majku, sestre i cijeli zenski rod.
Djubrad jedna, ulizivacka. Jebo vam Iniesta majku. Rukom, s kojom je skinuo loptu u sestnaestercu.
I posebno vam Balotelli jebo majku. Bananom.
Govna ulizivacka. Dobili ste sto ste trazili.
i thought croatia played fine. they got dominated on possession but so does everyone vs spain. i didn’t think spain really created that many dangeorus chances, and croatia arguably had more with the rakitic header being the obvious example. i guess the ref couldn’t see corluka being body slammed in the box (not that they ‘d ever let a match be decided like that and have spain knocked out off a penalty kick) and i also guess the ref’s couldn ‘t see two men off sides. i’m disappointed we lost at the end. it would’ve been encouraging to walk away from group play with a clean sheet. in the end, croatia still did a pretty solid job in this tournament. ireland should be banned from major competition from here on out
What a game.
So close too.
Good game Spain.
We played well, but it was too bad that Rakitic could not convert but I am proud of our guys!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is how you play against Spain. Let them do the ticka tacka in the midfield all day long. They will not win this tournament.
Great game, we played the best game we could play. If we convert on our few chances this game is much difference. Jebiga, bravo momci, dobri ste igrali.
Nothing to be embarassed about. This was just a reminder of how far apart these two teams are in terms of talent.
Game over, yeah we got fucked.
BUT I think our boys played awesome.
they were offsides and it doesnt help that italy has 2 goals i hate refs
Time to execute the 2-2 gameplan
Ireland down to 10 men now too
They’re both off sides.
fuck me.
LOOK AT THE FOUL ON CORLUKA
Ireland sub Keane out
Put in Da Silva!!
Oh SHIT WE’RE GOING FOR BROKE
Let’s go Ireland 🙁
Jelavić & Perišić in for Vida & Pranjić. Srna moving to back. Try to get some offense going.
@CroRupt Pranjic is working his ass off, so shut your cockholster.
come on so close
ughh fuck!! so close
OMG OMG OMG
pranjic is a scrub
I’m losing confidence in Rakitć
Please God!! We need to win not just survive!!
This ref is horrible !!!!!!
wow just checked the stats. spain had 77% possession. even worse than i thought. lets hope they can catch lightning in a bottle!
the tactics worked well the first half. i give bilic credit. croatia looked solid, even though it seemed they got dominated on possession. but they was expected. i’m worried mandzukic is actually hurt. he doens’t really look like he’s moving out. it may be tough to pull the leading goal scorer, but if he can’t give 100% we can’t play against spain with only 10, especially when we need a goal
good result, defense is looking strong. The only problem is we need a win. Lets go out there this half and play offensive, we can beat these fools
Mandzu looks tired, if Jelavic isn’t that sick I say put him in and Edwardo for Rakitic.
I usually try not to start blaming the ref, but this guy is calling every little thing on us, and nothing on Spain. When you start to consider our bigger size and physicality, mixed in with some aggression fueled by tiki-taka frustration, with a ref half-cocked to call fouls on us… not good. However, we are bending but not breaking well, and working in some counters. Just need to do better
We’re doing well with defending. But THIS IS IT.
Gotta play more offensive! Bilic has been doing awesome with his tactics this half, but we must shatter their defense.
Someone needs to stuff a flare up this refs ass.
This ref is a joke !!!!
Crap. Goal Italy
Crao. Goal Italy
Damnit Mandzukiću! quit rolling around!
Nice, we’ve strung together a few passes and actually taken two shots.
Can the Amerikwan announcer be more pro-Spain? Is that possible?
And can we get a call?
Can Spain flop more please !!!! Wow !!!!
This ref is brutal!
pranjic is invisible…
Ajmo momci! Let’s complete some passes and string something together. Spain playing their game as expected so far.
The Spaniards are going to get penalized in def, you watch.
Oh fuck me, not the damn flares again.
Let’s do this !!!!!
Ajmo Hrvatska !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
stupid decision taking out jelavic, but even more stupid is taking out Perisic
I would have preferred to see Pranjic coming off the bench. Although Perisic looked shaky last game (it looked like he was nervous – his first touch was horrible) he brings energy to the left side. Pranjic used to have the same energy, but it appears that he’s gotten more timid with the ball since he joined Bayern. Either way, both are solid.
As for the other switch, I prefer to see Srna as RB. He seems to flop around a lot less as a RB.
You may be right BostonCro… sorry, I quickly realized I may have jumped the gun on that… anyway… I still like the inclusion of Pranjic!
I thought Pranjic was heading east to China?
I know this is only a football game but it’s difficult to see it that way now. Come on, Hvratska(and Ireland)!
Going with one forward is the right call by Bilic. It may not work, but that is the right move to do going against Spain.
Whatever happens, happens. There is no shame in losing to Spain.
Good Luck everyone!! Daj Boze!!! Even @allen is sounding positive.
To me this seems like a line-up that is goign to try to park the bus and clog the mid field. It’s an interesting strategy b/c ultimatley to control our own destiny we need to score some goals. I can’t say I see too many in this line-up, but who knows. Maybe they want to just hang around and then open it up later. Not sure I love the concept. I would’ve preferred come out blazing playing our game and going for the win and if it doesn’t work cross our fingers for italy not to win. This kind seems to me like just hoping Italy doesn’t win. then again, I’m no manager so I hope I’m wrong!
I’m more worried about the young Vida against some of the best attackers in the world. Again, I hope I’m wrong.
In actuality I should be more worried about Schildenfeld, I know. But this is a helluva game in which to get your feet wet.
I’ve made the assumption that he will not be back with Bayern…
I too like the inclusion of Pranjic.
The man’s looking for a club… no better opportunity for him to go out and earn a contract with a new club.
It also limits our possible substitutions. This means that one of Perisic, Jelavic, Eduardo or Krancjar will not be playing tonight.
i hope your right!
@JM, trust me Pranjic will bring his A game.
yea it seems like switching too much. i like having talent on the field. your switching a guy who won player of the month in england (jelavic) and one of the most efficient players in the bundeslig despite limited action (perisic) for an hnl player(vida) and a guy who couldn’t get off the bench in the bundeslig (pranjic). i really really hope my concerns are unfounded, but i have my doubts about these moves
@couldn’t believe my eyes
UDBA uvijek radi!
Official Lineup
http://pic.twitter.com/e3XYO8p6
Perhaps this is a lineup designed to do exactly what some have called for here. Get into the flow of the game without committing too much forward, get to half with no worse than a tie while getting everybody’s game legs going. No early mistakes. What Italy/Ireland looks like at half may also influence what the second half formation looks like.
Having said that, I hate too conservative an approach, even against a team such as Spain. I’d love for the boys to come out like gangbusters.
NEMA STRAHA
NEMA PREDAJE
AJMO HRVATSKA!!!!
From the BBC… note the last sentence.
“Croatia make two changes from the draw with Italy, with Everton striker Nikica Jelavic and Ivan Perisic dropping to the bench to make way for Daniel Pranjic and Domagoj Vida. At first glance it would appear Croatia will play one man, Mario Manduzukic, up front, and pack the midfield in an effort to stifle the Spanish. Best of luck with that.”
I’m nervous about the lineup too but would love to be proven wrong. It looks like too much tinkering and overanalysis to me.
Anyway, still optimistic!
what kind of line – up is this? are they trying to play a possession battle with spain? i can’t say i’m a big fan. i dont know where the offense is going to come from. and simply trying to outplay spain at spains game seems dangerous to me
@Zach G
Not according to uefa.com. The lineup just posted as:
Pleti, Strinic, Carli, Schildenfeld, Vida, Pranjic, Rakitic, Vukojevic, Modric, Srna, Mandzukic
The heart and adrenaline are starting to pump!, the calm before a storm. I can feel it! its do or die. This is a moment were we can create history, it there for us, we just have to want it.
This is why we are here, to play the best and there no one better than spain. So lets prove to the world that we can beat the best, and show to the world we are not just passengers, we came here to play.

@Truthbefree, I love it brother, love it.
Looks like no changes to the lineup from the previous matches
Croats are lion killers and today the hunt is on and the Spanish players deep in their hearts fear the men who dare to hunt the lion ! Today, Croatia fights for more than a game, today Croatia has a chance to show courage, strength, and unity no matter what the result ! I am proud of these lion killers ! Que ganan a los gallegos con el espiritu croata indominable ! Viva Croacia ! Marchamos juntos !
@ziva – all great points.
If we’re level at the half it bodes well for the right result. 1-1 is optimal in my opinion. Let’s pray Mandzukic gets his fourth of the tournament. 0-0 at half is OK too, we just can’t be down at halftime.
I’m hoping Pranjic gets in the game at some point. Some people are going apeshit at Jelavic possibly being benched but if the Spanish come at us with half the chances the Italians had in the first half of match 2 they’ll be up 2-0. We need to have another battler in the midfield.
I am shaking . I hope we have big pride to beat espania
Anyhow enough with this racist trap that was laid for us. Let s go out and show them who we are. El Cid gets his today.
@Ziva it is our duty as humans to rage against that machine. You seem to accept it to easily. Its wrong and we need to speak out. BTW what evil one world shadow group runs uefa and Fifa?
Yup. It’s the world Ziva was talking about. You don’t have to like it, but it does exist.
So THIS is the attrocious behaviour for which UEFA has punished the Danish player?! I thought it was something like headbutting or racially abusing an opponent… nope. It seems it was far more serious than that — he stepped on a sponsor’s toes.
http://www.thestar.com/sports/soccer/article/1212981–euro-2012-danish-striker-nicklas-bendtner-fined-100-000-euros-for-underwear-revealing-rival-sponsor
Don’t forget Enzo has spoken on this game.

.
@ManDingo……….but, that is how the world works. Money = power. It may not be right, but that is how things function. Would you disagree with that?
@Shinobi….agreed. For the 95% of our fans who behave, they (we) create an unreal atmosphere wherever we travel. We are the life of the party and nothing ever to worry about in a negative light. Then we have the limited minority looking to be funny or cause trouble. These clowns give the police/UEFA a reason to punish us.
jebiga, that’s it on this topic. I am waiting for the game and hoping for the best.
@ Ziva
Your position has no merit. Basically what you said is that the rich dont go to jail the poor do. This is against all notions of freedom, human rights and equality. You come across as a typical Republican. I really want Croatia to stick it to UEFA and win today. That would be so sweet. Also do we really want to become limp-wristed Western Europeans who will be extinct in about two to three generations.
Crippler posting about soccer is always a positive.
The word today fellas is faith! I have faith that Ireland can somehow pull the unthinkable and get a result. I have faith that Croatia can pull out some magic against a back four that isn’t so powerful in Spain. I’m about to start pre gaming, lets hope something major happens.
Its too early to go home and this team has been playing too damn well to go home this early!
@ziva
Could’nt agree more with your points on what the savez should be doing, and i bet your right when you say they have’nt done anything.
Its just sad that our idiot fans gave them (UEFA) the opportunity.
@Couldn’t believe my eyes
Thats what i was trying to say in an earlier post. I’m not saying that a hrvat did’nt throw a banana this time around. But if UEFA do decide to charge us for that incident also.
Imagine how easy it would be in the future to screw up a opposing team to dress in their colours, go undercover and throw fruit on the field. Too easy!!
That why there needs to be a better method in dealing with unruly fans.
@shinobi…..I agree with that. Are we held to a different set of standards than Spain or some of the bigger nations. Of course. But, that is part of life. And it is expected.
I made the analogy earlier that its no different than a partner at a law firm and a first-year associate. The partner at the law firm probably brings in and bills more money for the firm, so when he fucks up you look at it differently than when the first-year associate fucks up. The partner is a more valuable partner to the firm than a first-year associate. Same thing here with UEFA. Spain means more to UEFA than we do. That is why we (our fans) need to realize that we should never give them (UEFA) a reason to even consider giving us any punishment.
My point is this: the savez needs to do a better job in policing and educating our fans. Be creative in their thinking. here is a simple idea….the savez should set up a text number where fans can send a text message if they witness idiotic behavior. Let us know the section where it is taking place. We see this all over the place at US sporting events. There are other similar measures that can be taken. I am not saying this will stop some hercegovac (wink-wink) from throwing a banana next time. But, the savez can then at least go back to UEFA and explain all the measures they have taken to combat bad fan behavior. Then you can ask UEFA for their help and explain to them we have taken these 15 measures and nothing has worked. Please help us find a solution. I’m willing to bet our savez has not done much to encourage good behavior and not done much to stamp out bad behavior.
need 3 things to help us advance..,
Determation, Luck, & most importantly faith in God..
just have to wait & see..its not going to be easy..
looks like jelavic is healthy again. returned to practice yesterday and scored a goal in their scrimage.
Ah, sweet sweet Robert Jarni . . . Good move, Crippler, invoking his memory today. That can only bode well for us.
What is this lineup shakeup talk? Is this confirmed that Vida is playing centerback and Jelavic is out? What formation is being discussed?
@Ziva
Yes you were wrong. UEFA is a joke, at least you are man enough to admit it this time.
I still agree with you that that sort of behavior is wrong (ape sounds, jeering of anthems, banana throwing). Rascism has no place in sports.
But if they want to make an example of our country there needs to be more consistency and deal with everyone equally. Not just sweep it under the rug because they are the spainish, and label us rascists because we are small croatia.
Is Robert Jarni still available im sure he could still out run half the team hahaha
We need to put some speed up front and attack if we want a result with the Spaniards. Get some speed going and spread out spain on the field so they cant start working there one two passes/give and gos. Force them to play long ball soccer. Lets hope Ireland pull off some magic to.
The one. This one is definately a case of WTF, in the square in gdansk yesterday I saw 2 guys in Croatia jerseys give each r the 3 finger salute. WTF? They were off to the side a bit? Do you think our friends to the east could be at the game disguised as Croats to f us up?
If we are attack-minded like we were in the 2nd half against Italy, worst case scenario I believe is we’ll come out with a tie.
If we come out like we did in the FIRST half against Italy, we’re looking at a 3 goal loss since a lot of those shots they missed, the Spaniards would have finished.
We are not like the Greeks where we can put 11 men behind the ball and pull out a tie as Spain would rip us to shreds. If we go out in the first round, let’s go out at least trying.
Uefa is a left wing joke. I ask you when is Spain going to get punished for the racist chants their fans made? The story below is why we have to be careful as to who we let into our country.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2159812/Nicola-Furlong-murder-Richard-Hinds-19-arrested-confesses-strangling-Irish-student.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

Look at the fine and suspension given to Bendtner for his underwear stunt. He got fined more for his actions that UEFA fines teams and fans for improper conduct.
You know what guys, I may have been wrong. Here I am thinking we need to behave better and then I read how UEFA decides to punish Bendtner compared to other punishments.
@Tony
That is so awesome!!!!!
F Uefa….Long Live Croatia….To battle we ride!!!!
Very clever by the spainish, yes clever to throw the boys off their game with these rumors.
Damn iPad spell check pisses me off
Hey guys… I’m in gdansk for the game and wife and i decided to spend the morning in the seaside town of sopot just to the north. Walking down the main drag and who do we see?
The entire HNS contingent. Gave Mario, luka and Eduardo good luck wishes from Canada.
The scene in the old town is off the hook right now with Croats out numbering the Spanish 3 to 1.
Half the square was covered in a AMA
Since checkered flag it warms the heart. Ajmo Hrvatska!
I say for today:
Croatia -1
Spain – 2
Italy – 1
Ireland – 1
and the ride continues
Collude for a 2-2 draw dammit!!!! COLLUDE!!!!!
Luka Modric will be starring in the next Marvel comics-based action flick as the Invisible man.
I’m pretty impressed with the Spanish media floating rumors that Real wants Modric and that Bacra wants Corluka 24 hours before Spain is set to play a do or die game against us..
http://www.slobodnadalmacija.hr/Euro-2012/tabid/342/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/178136/Default.aspx
Modric to real madrid?
do you think sitting jelavic is tactical move or is he still down with fever?
I think Vida as a central defender is a good move. Shildenfeld looked weak against smaller and faster players in the game against Italy. And Croatia cannot afford to concede an early goal against Spain and let them dictate the game. I would however start with Jelavic because he and Mandzo are great at holding the ball with backs to the goal. But regardless, in order to beat Spain all the Croatian players need to play that perfect game both tactically and individually. An early goal for Croatia changes everything. Good luck to Croatia ! Pain for Spain !
@Ana-Sorry,but I could not pity you “for having to get up “at like 6am”for world cup games during Japan/Korea and any complaints for time zones and games over there.I was up at 1.45am the other day to watch the Italy v Cro match and then tried going back to bed for a bit before the alarm went off,but sleep didnt really happen. We are lucky here when the game kicks off at 5am!!If we lose,I wonder why I do it to myself, but when we win,I have my answer!!
Go Vatreni!
sad ce svit vidit kako kuca hrvatsko srce!!!
The Dodgers, Angels, & Galaxy all Win today , with the L.A. Kings Winning the Cup last week !!! All we need is Our Croatian Boys to beat Spain tomarrow and almost everything will be good with the sports world !!! Bilic needs to push Modric forward, & put Eddy in a bit sooner , for Us to Win, & shock the soccer world ! Can’t Wait ! Bog, Hrvati, Hajduk, i HNS !!!
@Ana
I meant “said” not “sad”
Although “sad” does kind of work there 🙂
@Ana
I like the Pacific Standard Time
Something can definitely be sad for getting drunk earlier in the day than just about every over time zone
calm down guys, bilic has thrown in vida for defensive duties as we should hold the tie for at least the start of the second half. Then if we can handle it, take off vida, put srna at rb, and bring on jelavic…no big deal. The most important thing is to not let up a goal early. if we concede, spain will play possesion ball the entire game and score 2 more while were chasing the game. I’m liking what bilic is doing and feel we have criticised him too much. God bless croatia and ireland
taking jelavic out and putting vida in…. huge mistake. Just terrible, this team is at its best when its attacking.
AZ,
are u on crack, simunic is slower then schindenfeld
simunic should play…he has great technique and ball skills..
GOOD LORD! Vida starting in the biggest game, this is why I’ll never miss Slaven Billc! Why change things that aren’t broken? Vida against those dribblers on Spain is a card waiting to happen.
Remember one of the main qualities our team has going for us…
We always tend to play up to the level of our competition. Yes Spain is an ultimate test and will be very strong….but our boys would LOVE to prove a point and beat them.
LETS HOPE CROATIA CAN CREATE ANOTHER HISTORIC WIN!
Thanks Tibor. We might need the Hungary team out there with us on the pitch. I hear Modric is playing off Mandzo to get another midfielder in? But really, do we want someone to come in who hasn’t even played a minute of the tournament so far? And against the best team in europe at that. Jelavic didn’t get many chances, but he worked hard for the team, and combined well with Mario. Bit disappointed because Luka hasn’t exactly set the place alight in the middle, so giving him less ball in a more forward position sounds pretty silly. We now rely on more defensive midfielders to spray the ball from the back, and have one less attacking player in a game we really need to score 2-3 goals in just to draw I’d think? And with 35-40% possession that will be tricky. We need 2 strikers out there, and with 60 minutes gone I’m sure we’ll have the whole lot out there, including dudu. Come on Ireland!!!
damn i just realized how much ur time zone sucks for soccer…what did u kids do during wc japan? i remember waking up at like 6am to watch games…the 3 hours were ahead makes all the difference lol
We’ll be there at 11. Kitchen will be closed. Bar open. We’ll bring snacks. Bring any kind of your own food also if you wish.
@Kvartuc,
what time u guys get there?
@ Jarac,
Yep. We’ll be at Alpine.
samo naprijed!
@Kvartuc,
u guys going to be at alpine village again?
Idemo Decki!!!
Can Croatia shock the world? Will this be another great chapter in the Croatian National Team Chronicles? 🙂
I really hope Bilic doesn’t play Vida at right back as some people are hinting he may. Till now Srna at RB and Rakitic at RW were doing well, I wouldn’t change that. However, I’d play Vida at CD instead of Schildenfeld. I think Schildenfeld is Croatia’s weakest link. What a disaster the first half against Italy was. How many people thing Vida would be better at CD?
Hungary is with you!!!!
