BBC has reported that the Croatian courts have rejected any perjury claims against Croatia captain Luka Modrić. Modrić was brought into court last year to testify in the trial of former Dinamo Zagreb president, Zdravko Mamić, and his embezzlement of funds from the club through player transfers.
Modrić flipped his testimony the second time around and was accused of perjury. Croatian media report that the Zagreb municipal criminal court said the perjury charge against Modrić was “premature” because the verdict in the corruption trial itself was not yet final. Prosecutors are able to appeal this decision.
I love it. A Top 10 Most Wanted List with a description of why. This is my next project…
I wish I knew more. There was a dude from Istra who wrote for Total Croatia News that had quite a bit of knowledge. He would be awesome to collaborate with on this. Getting a local’s input is best.
Not sure what the protocol is for collaboration between different news outlets, but reaching out to these guys for some background details would be great.

Antonijevic is a bit of a Mamic-ophile, but he’s still very knowledgable in sport. Would be cool to send an email to them and ask where we could find some detailed background info on the Zuzul brothers dealing with RNK Split, the Glover deal details, Fiorentini’s court case, Stimac’s transfer deals. etc and compare that to Vrbanovic, Mamic brother, etc…then post a simple high level list/ranking.
Maybe make them like Power Rankings that get updated every fiscal quarter.

@ Maminjo,
I love where your head’s at. I lack the knowledge you obviously have on the subject matter but would like to collaborate on an article between you, me and Colin.
Thoughts?
Istra made deal with (I guess owners of) spanish club Alaves, which last year supported first league debutant Rudeš. They sent some good (mostly youth) players to Rudeš last year and this year all these players went to Istra, kind of leaving Rudeš hanging in the league. Recently they had match and it ended with Istra beating Rudeš 0:3.
Oh, by the way…what the hell is going on with NK Istra anyway?
Are there even going to be any charges brought forward to Michael Glover and that American Consortium that bought NK Istra a few years ago?
We keep chirping about how we need a ‘foreign’ coach and how we need a ‘foreign’ firm to come in and buy Hajduk, and all these HNL teams. Well, now you have it.
I remember this American Consortium wanted to buy Hajduk too. They even had Ndamukong Suh from the NFL show up, to somehow legitimize them as something good and positive.
They end up being turned down by Hajduk, then go off to buy Istra and the first thing they did was cut the lunches that the NK Istra youth teams get when their parents send them to football camp. Nice.
Players haven’t been paid in the past two years. Just one payment every 8 or so weeks (since contracts become void in the HNL if you go 3 straight months without paying). Glover not answering calls, and is pretty much MIA despite living in Cro.
HNL players from other teams are donating part of their salaries to Istra players.
A few teams from the HNL (including Mamic) loaned players out to Istra FOR FREE since only 8 players showed up to training camp and Istra were about to be kicked out of HNL.
I see very, very few calls in any Croatian media for Glover to be charged, but I see almost daily commentary about Mamic being the plague of Croatian football, along with players like Modric and Lovren.
Croatian sports media outlets like Index and Jutarnji are lazy and weak, and they have no problems snagging articles from other sports websites (like CroatianSports.com). They’ve done it before.
I say you guys try and drum up some info about Istra and this Glover guy (along with this Midnight Investments LLC consortium). Or do some sort of Croatian Sports Corruption Rankings with a top-10 shit list (Glover being on the top) and have these other degenerates (like Stimac, Zuzul, etc) called out on a regular basis.
I could see that being picked up by lazy Cro Sports media back home, and get some focus on the MAJOR crooks in Croatian football.
Luka modric Croatian hero smart decision by the court too refuse too go forward with this case against him!
@maminjo
Well said.
Bravo Luka !
Good.
Now we can either drop the charges against Mamic, or extend the exact same charges to Stimac, Fiorentini, Zuzul, etc…
and also begin to seriously look at who killed Dino Pokrovac (Niko Kranjcar’s agent).
This stupid mob mentality justice hurts Croats so much.
