Croatia defeated reigning European champions, Spain, 23-19 in Munich Thursday night with eight goals coming from veteran Zlatko Horvat. The win ensures the Croatian Cowboys finish the preliminary round with a perfect 5-0 record.
With the 2019 World Handball championships heading into the Main Round, Croatia will begin the new stage with four points as they have already defeated Spain and Iceland in the previous round. Croatia will play Brazil next on Sunday before facing co-hosts Germany on Monday and reigning world champions France on Wednesday.
The real tournament begins now as Croatia has not won gold in handball since the 2004 Olympics in Athens. The top two teams from this round automatically book a spot in the semifinals.
@medo Palaversa, I think, does not have a father like Vlašić does…hopefully the young guys choose good agents that care about the players more than the money
Since we are on the subject of transfers and I’m no expert I’m curious if an 18 yr old has a say in his future.
If he feels he’s not yet ready and just enjoys where he is at and feels he needs more time at his present club can he torpedo a deal or is he just a piece of cattle with no say?i have yet to hear anything on this as far as transfers go.
Not every kid has a father like Vlasic’s who truly knows what’s best .
@antekvartuc…and like I had mentioned earlier, he does not need to score a ton of goals to be recognized because he is a CDM…it’ll be easier for him to work his way up to becoming a key player and replacement for Fernandinho…he can still score though if wants to take his shot
@antekvartuc…I totally see what you mean….he is playing against lower class teams but he is the only guy, besides for Caktaš, who is controlling the game for Hajduk…we should look on the bright side of things with Palaversa
Dinamo was smart to sign Antonio Marin until he turns 19 so they can develop him….he’s another huge talent…Hajduk doesn’t have the same money for a future star like Palaversa
Sure, he’s hot out of the gates as young player but he’s also playing against teams like Gorica and Pula and Lokomotiva. Not exactly world beaters.
I hope the guy does pan out, but to say he deserves to be at Man City is crazy. They will do what they always do: business. They but a bunch of kids for a couple mill, loan them back out to whomever…if one of them pans out to be a superstar, they look like geniuses.
#modernfootball wins these days. I hate it but it’s the world we live in.
@antekvartuc Palaversa has made 17 appearances for the Hajduk first team and, for his age, appears to be a great leader, scoring twice…he can control the ball like Rakitić, drop back on defense like Brozo, and fire screamers at the opposing keepers if he wants to….his IQ is incredible and he has excellent vision…he has so much potential to be world class and has drawn comparisons to Toni Kroos, although I think that Palaversa is better offensively.
Yup say what u want about mamic
And maybe he did it for his own selfish ways but he knew soem of these kids values
Where are all hajduks prospects
Vlasic yes shows promise
Balic seems lost
Remember when we thought radosevic was gonna be our pit bull cdm?
I know nothing bout the politics but for the sake of these kids and our national team I sure hope hajduk gets their shit together and sells these teams to smaller stepping stone clubs
Mid level German or even low level Italian league
Heck srna spent his life in Ukraine and was very effective for us
Vida in turkey and doing his thing for us
The big leagues will be waiting for them
The cream always rises to the top
@CroatiaU14,
What has Palaversa done to deserve a move to arguably one of the best clubs in the world right now?
The good thing about Dinamo over Hajduk is that Dinamo doesn’t sell players for cheap.
Guys like Lovren, Pjaca, Mandzukic…all struggled when they transferred to their new clubs, but those new clubs insisted on playing through their growing pains since they didn’t want to look foolish paying so much with nothing to show for it.
Lovren eventually became passable (and suddenly very good this past year), Mandzukic found his scoring touch, and unfortunately for Pjaca he is still recovering from injury (but they worked hard to find a suitable loan deal for him with a buyback option).
If these guys were sold for 3M each, I doubt they would be on our National Team.
@Medo
Re: your first question about any 19-20 year olds getting time…
I can only think of Brekalo and Sosa right now, but they weren’t sold to big clubs. They were sold to mid-tier German clubs, but the money transfer wasn’t minimal (both went for ~7million Euro each) so the clubs have an interest in developing them.
Same story with Mateo Kovacic going to Inter. They paid 13M and insisted on starting him, or else lose on their investment.
Man City is another beast though. They don’t care about money as they are just a play toy for some Arab Oil Sheikhs.
They, along with Chelsea, just buy up hoards of young talent and then just arbitrarily loan them out to whoever will take them. There is no plan to develop any of these specific players. If some of them pan out, then great. Neither one of these teams have a real farm system, nor are they interested in developing players. They just throw shit on a wall and see what sticks.
Chelsea did this with Mario Pasalic, Matej Delac, and Stipe Perica. Paid 3M each for them, and loaned them out to a random bunch of teams. No real plan, but if one of them pans out, then great. They just made back double their money or they have themselves a player that can start on their squad.
Ante Palaversa may be a different type of player than Pasalic, but it won’t matter if he’s being thrown around various leagues in various countries, playing for different coaches, with different philosophies, speaking different languages, who all won’t have any motivation to develop a young player as he likely will not be a part of that team the following season.
You’re just setting him up for failure with this move.
@cro 14 I did forget about Brekalo ,he certainly passes the eye test, I think if he stays healthy he will be world class one day.
Tin man does not get consistent enough PT at bayer it seems …he certainly has an offensive flair to his game but I’m
Just not sold on him defensively..I hope I’m wrong
@Maminjo Palaversa is a different player than Pašalić…he doesn’t necessarily have to score in order to have a good performance because he is a CDM…Palaversa can still put the ball in the net if he wants to though….he is very similar to Toni Kroos but is much more affective on offense…I see your point but I feel that this kid is something special
@medo….Tin Jedvaj has really became a key player in the back for Bayern Leverkusen…Josip Brekalo has earned lots of playing time at Wolfsburg too…Tottenham wants to buy him
Has there been any youngster 19-21 who has been able to secure a starting spot with a big club after a move.
I can only think of Vlasic and that was after his initial spell picking splinters out of his arse at Everton…is CSKA even considered a big club by most ?
Leicester did well with benkovic shipping him to Celtic,at least he’s getting playing time Though the Scottish league is hardly La Liga.
It seems like most of kids would be wise to take an intermediate step to say Belgium or Greece before they play with the big boys.
@Dannyj
They are not confident in their ability to develop him properly, so they sell as soon as possible.
Quick guaranteed cash is more important to them than playing the long game.
Sigh. Fucking Hajduk.
He’ll become the next Mario Pašalić if this deal happens.
Random loans to teams that have zero incentive to develop him properly.

Hezonja’s Premier League picks for this week.
Another kid being sold too early???
Is hajduk that broke that they can’t develop him for another year or two and ask for more? Or is he not worth anymore the longer they keep him?
@Lamont Palaversa is a huge talent and deserves to move to Man City
