In standard Croatian fashion, the cardiac kings game back from a 5-goal deficit in the second half against mighty Spain to tie the game up with less than five minutes to go. Although both teams were already slated to play in the semifinals, this game would determine first and second in the Main Group and who they would play in the final four. A draw would keep Spain top of the group as they had a better goal differential going into their match with Croatia. With 30 seconds left in the game, Croatia hit the post square to force the draw.
The group stage of the Euro 2020 handball tournament concludes Wednesday for Croatia. Although both Croatia and Spain have already booked their tickets to the semifinal round, the two nations will meet Wednesday night in Vienna at 10AM (ET).
The winner will play second place from the other Main Group while the loser will play first place. Norway has already qualified for a semifinal match while Slovenia or Hungary will take the final spot.
Shockingly enough, European giants in handball – France and Denmark – didn’t even make it out of the preliminary round, which paved the way for some new blood. Croatia has had some bad luck in recent when it comes to handball. A win over Spain would be a fantastic confidence boost going into the semifinal match Friday in Stockholm. It will be against Norway, Slovenia, or Hungary.
