Luka Modrić nearly added to his already legendary story at Real Madrid on Saturday; scoring the game winning goal against Villareal in injury time. Real Madrid won 2-1. If Atletico would have dropped points vs. Valladolid, that goal would have won the La Liga title for Real Madrid. However, Atletico came back from a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 themselves, to be crowned Spanish champions. Both goalie Ivo Grbić and Šime Vrsaljko remained on the bench in this title-clinching game.
Modrić was ‘Man of the Match’ and received a 7/10 grade even though he was mediocre until the game winner. “Broke into the box, wiggled and shimmied before shooting wide of the near post. Did come up trumps late on though, hitting the top corner accurately, but it wasn’t to be for the former champions.”
Did we just see Andrej Kramarić’s last goal in a Hoffenheim jersey? Krama scored the game winner in injury time Saturday as Hoffenheim defeated Hertha Berlin to finish 11th in the Bundesliga. Kramarić ended the season RED HOT and will be wooed by top clubs in Germany this summer after showing displeasure with Hoffenheim management this season. If he leaves, Krama owns the single-season goal record (20) and all-time goal record (75) at the club.
The Croatian Inter Milan duo of Perišić and Brozović were finally crowned Serie A champions Sunday after a 5-1 victory over Udinese. Perišić scored once as Inter Milan dethrone the Juventus dynasty after a 10-year reign. Inter will be headed back to the Champions League group stage alongside city rivals AC Milan. AC Milan knew they needed a win on the final day of the season to finish top-4 and book a ticket to the Champions League. They did it with a 2-0 win over Atalanta. Rebic and Mandzukic were not on the squad list for this match.
Mateo Kovačić and Chelsea will be sending Tottenham a huge gift basket this week. Chelsea laid an absolute goose egg on Sunday in the last game of the season; knowing a victory would book their ticket to the Champions League next season. However, they lost 2-1 to Aston Villa which opened up the door for Leicester to grab the last spot. But Leicester laid a bigger egg than Chelsea and lost 4-2 to Tottenham. meaning they finish fifth. Chelsea will have CL football next season no matter what happens in the Final Saturday vs. Manchester City. Kovačić had his worst game of the season in the 65 minutes he played: “After his mistake last week in the Leicester game had Chelsea fans hearts in mouths, a repeat never looked far away. Showed plenty of energy and endeavour going forward, but guilty of dallying with possession for too long on countless occasions. Defensively poor.“
21 year-old Domagoj Bradarić did not play in Lille’s title-clinching match on Sunday as Lille defeated Angers 2-1 to dethrone PSG. It is their first French title since 2011. Bradarić started coming off the bench later in the season but this season was a fantastic boost of confidence for the left-back; especially with scoring the late goal against England’s U21 squad to put the Mladi Vatreni in the Euro quarterfinals.

Year-end Real player ratings from Marca:
•
Luka Modric:
The 35-year-old is aging like a fine wine, as evidenced by his 2020/21 season. Odegaard put pressure on him at the start of the season, but he went up a level and never looked back. MARCA’s rating: 9/10.

Alen should stay where he is and develop his game. He will be in our next World Cup team. You’ll see it.

If there were a tournament for toughest people on the planet Croatia and Armenia would cruise into the knockout rounds
What kind of a lineup are we gonna see next week against Armenia? Our projected starting 11 for the tourney? Maybe resting guys, maybe still tinkering?
Kramaric could be huge for us if we deploy him correctly. Our attack should he built around him. Compliment that with Rebic and Perisic on the wings and there should be no reason we would struggle to score goals.
Kramaric scores 20 in a season. I think this is the first Hrvat to do that in a top 5 league since the ’90s.
This guy has to start in the “hole” behind Petko. Right now I go with Krama over Vlasic. And I think Vlasic would be a great option off the bench.
But here comes the question of how do Krama and Perisic mesh together. They basically hate each other and have the worst chemistry ever lol
Mario scored more with Bayern Raz
Let me clarify my statement, no one scored 20 or more in League Play since the 90s. And I believe this is the case.
Modric getting some revenge for Dinamo 👌🏻
Nice to see key players in form before the Euro
After watching the giants of Real Madrid barely winning against a very good Villareal…I think our Dinamo did really well. Villareal will probably take the Europa cup.
“Rebic and Mandzukic were not on the squad list for this match.”

Mandzukic played.
You’re absolutely right. Thanks gbvh. Don’t know how I missed that.
He also just left AC Milan.

Mandzo should play for Osijek next season.
Would love to see this. If Osijek can get him and another decent signing or two, coupled with half the Dinamo team probably getting sold after the WC, Osijek would have a pretty reasonable path to winning the title next year.
