The fine folks at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, CA have granted both myself and Denis credentials for this year’s tournament. The Masters 1000 tournament, held March 9-22, is arguably America’s biggest tennis tourney outside of the U.S. Open. Every big tennis star in the world is expected to play, including Serena Williams, who has boycotted the tournament since 2001.
2014 U.S. Open champion Marin Čilić is scheduled to play after sitting out the Australian Open in January with a shoulder injury and will be ranked #10. Dr. Ivo Karlović will come in at 24.
18 year-old Donna Vekić has been granted a Wild Card for the tournament and will be in the main draw, which will be released sometime this weekend.
Team CroatianSports will attend the tournament March 13-15 and look to chat with all the Croatian tennis players who will be in attendance.
Prva Generacija. What say you?
Goran Ivanišević Interview-BNP Paribas Open 2014
Coric ran out of gas. It’s a shame, but understandable. Only a kid.
Coric did his best Rakitic in front of goal with a header to win the game opportunity choke job. Up two sets and a break in the third and he fell apart. Damn.
Looks like the serbos will win this tie 5-0
ohh, not true. Plenty of you were applauding the discussions we had when I first started positng before my attempts at hijackin the website. This was long before I brought the jock sniffing conversation into the mix.
And what was I wrong about Halilovic???? He was going to be called up for WC, but as a result of his sale to Barca they stipulated they didn’t want him called up. Circumstances changed or are some of you dumb to realize situations change and alternative outcomes are result…….Here is an example for you……Drazen Petrovic was a free agent after the 1993 NBA season. He was going to sign with the Knicks or return to Spain. But, guess what, that didn’t happen. Why??? Because he had a bad choice in women. As the result…….circumstances changed. Same thing. There are always outliers that change how events go. ALl I can do is comment on the current situation or try to offer perspective on how things can go. Nothing more, nothing less.
@ lovro
some good digging, but don’t get too worked up. everyone in the site knows ziva has neither soccer knowledge nor inside connections (how about his several wrong halilovic calls?). as a result, he’s gotta instigate for attention
Damn, Coric kicking ass in Davis Cup. I thought the moment would be too big for him. Nice to see we will be tied 1-1 at the end of day one. While, I still don’t expect us to win the tie, nice to see this young kid coming through. We will probably lose doubles tomorrow and then Djokovic will beat Coric. Either way, good experience for this kid.
I don’t call “everyone else” jock sniffers. I only call those who are adults and wear the last name of another person on their back as a jock sniffer or those who will walk up to a person they don’t know and ask for a photo or autograph. Now, those type of adults are jock sniffers. I honestly don’t know what other word could be used to describe such a person who values their own self worth so little.
Sad Ziva Istina, Pathetic Ziva Istina, Miserable Ziva Istina……Negative. I am the self-proclaimed ombudsman of croatian society. We need a little discussin that is not always Xs and Os. Come on, the site is a little dead when there is no majot sporting event. This Week in the NHL gets 30 posts, Hrvati in the NBA gets 15 posts………at least we can open the floor to other topics and discussion and generate some engagement or content.
Hell, one of my ideas is to list the cities in N. America with large croatian populations and have people respond to the folllowing categories:
– biggest kurva (the girl that was the most promiscuous) in the Croatian community.
– best place to watch a Cro game
– Biggest drunk
– Biggest seljacina
– etc……I’m sure we could think of more topics
Funny how the guy who calls everyone else jock sniffers spends an enormous amount of time trying to rile up pro athletes. You my friend are the saddest jock sniffer. You invest an incredible amount of your time following the exploits, both on and off the field of such persons. From now on you should call yourself Sad Ziva Istinia.
Typical,
Talk shit deserving of a smack then threaten with a lawsuit.
That’s as American as it gets!
Hmmmmm, doubtful, but it would open them up to a lawsuit.
Friends, Davis Cup today. Forget any thoughts about beating the Serbs, the question is do we win any sets today. I am expecting a beat down, but hoping for a good showing from at least from Coric.
It would be funniest if Ziva did the interviews and got attacked by one of our athletes like Jim Everett on Jim Rome.
Now THAT would go viral!
And some of think I shouldn’t post.
Another imposter……..
Instead of taking portions of my comments, why don’t you take the full comments.
All good either way…….I was correct in my thoughts…..the great thing about me is that I provide material and comments in actual time based in the current situation. He’ll, if we are going to be fair, then let’s go back and look at all the comments made by people who thought Delac was next great GK, we would do damage at the WC, etc,,,,
Also, let me get this straight……you actually wasted time looking up previous comments. Jesi luzer
You got me.
I apologize for my bad call.
Quotes from Ziva istina – you be the judge:

Forget the question if Modric will impress in the Madrid derby. Question is will he even start in the derby. Looks like this will be another big game for Real where he will be on the bench. He is approaching bust category.
December 2, 2012 at 1:09 pm
@Mate….sure, usually you are given time, but not at a place like Real Madrid. True world class players dont need time, they make the adjustment right away. I was wrong about Modric. I really thought he was a stud who could make an impact at Real. I was wrong. He is a very good player, but he is not a true stud.
December 2, 2012 at 4:59 pm
He is a damn good player, but he is not elite.
December 3, 2012 at 7:21 am
@chopper…………give him a season?????? He may not have a season. Mourinho wont be back at Real unless he wins the league again (unlikely) or the Champions League. Modric is the guy Mourinho wanted. If Mourinsho goes there would be a good chance they would try to get rid of Modric as well and try to get some of that money back before they realize he was a complete failure by Real Madrid standards.
_______________________________________________
So, my friend Ziva, Luka Modric went on to be named the best midfielder in the Spanish League, went on to play when Mourihno left, and is very much considered elite and a stud.
You don’t have a clue predicting the future. You only write the obvious. Circumstances change, and you can’t forsee any of them.
…and you gamble?
funny thing is when Crna Gorci and Bosanci in Istra tell old time Istrijani who speak regional dialects to speak ‘proper’ Croatian cause they can’t understand them haha it’s like go back to your shit hole in Bosna and speak your own dialect then!
but they’ve been in Istra for decades now though… it’s just now they’re becoming the majority in some areas where the real Istrijani moved out.
Too bad the 2nd generation BiH imports into Istra did the same thing and now we have these newfound Istrian separatists with giant foreheads and last names like Miletić.
Falling out when Goran was scheduled to take over the Davis Cup team as captain.
Another question could be going the easy route and asking them how they feel about “za dom….spremni”, but we all know nobody will answer that. Plus, I don’t like going the easy route when interviewing people. Make them squirm, make them uncomfortabe.
• If you saw Niki Pilic right now, what would you do: turn the other way or punch him?
That’s a good one that even I don’t know. Did something happen between them? When it comes to Croatian sports, my tennis isn’t that good.
@Ante B……true, but don’t let the facts get in the way of a crazy question.
lived in Zagreb for a long time, do you feel the animosity in that city towards hercegovci? Can you blame the public for feeling that way?
Good one but about 10 years too late. Why? I remember the heavy anti Bosanac and Hercegovac mentality right after the war and it was bad. However it’s different now because those peoples’ kids were born and raised in Zagreb, speak zagrebacki and feel like they are Zagrepcani. Assimilation done did it. Typical convo: “ku’is moji su ti, ono, iz vukojebine, ne, zasu”
A few more questions that should be considered:
– You have fans around the world and at some events diaspora hrvati come out to watch you play. When you interact with the diapora hrvati in N. America, are you forced to speak English with them because of how bad they butcher the croatian language.
It is up to them if they decide to ask. All I can do is provide them with suggestions.
I will say this……if they wanted a huge increase in the video being viewed, that should ask those questions. It would go viral in Cro. What is the worst thing that could happen, the interview subject walks away. It would be up to the interview subject to report them to the media relations staff at the tournament or else they would never know. Its not like a staffer is going to follow them around, not unless they plan to interview someone like Federer or Djokovic.
You guys really don’t think it would be funny to see Ivanisevic squirm when asked about his financial problems or the comment about who his ex-wife is dating? I always get a kick out of those type of TMZ videos with American athletes.
thank you Ziva for proving me right about your stupid questions.
Denis & Ante too much class & tact to even consider asking even one of your ridiculous questions, but you know that and only posted them for the LULZ
They may be terrible, but they are not fact-less.
I’m not afraid of anything………the guys who run this site know I create traffic (good or bad). Take me away and the level on engagement would go down. Only time it would be high is when Cro actually plays.
@vatrena cast……..
I like the voting system, however, I would get swarmed with emails asking “what happened to my comment”
At the same time, I agree with Ziva Istina and I’ve been saying this for years:
“how about you just skip over Ziva’s comments?”
The guy even signs in just about every time. His comments include his picture. Its so easy to skip each and every one of his comments if you wish
@Ziva,
impossible questions. Try to tone it down 50%.
example:
“Which tournament on tour has the best “picketine”?”
Which tournament on tour has the best looking girls?
@ziva
you scared of a little democratic voting system, you a commie? lol!
anyway my point is it would take stupid comments like the one above away. And if i down voted your comments i feel like i would make life just a little better for the croatians here since they wouldn’t have to read your terrible and fact-less nicknames
Questions to ask……..
For Ivanisevic….
• Is Cilic really injured, because last time he claimed he had an injury there was an entire doping controversy he was dealing with? Can we really believe him or those connected to him?
• Do you have any financial tips you can share with our audience? By the way, how are those appartment building doing in Split?
• Did you grow up a fan of the NBA? The reason I ask is because there are well known cases of NBA players blowing through their millions as well with bad investment strategies.
• Does it bother you that your kids are calling another man “tata”?
• On our website two months ago, we posted a photo of you during an autograph session at the Australian Open with a female jock sniffer who had face paint displayed as the Serbian flag. There were a good number of people who visit our webite – mostly non-croat speaking diaspora who can’t order drinks properly in Croatia – who objected to you posing in such a photo. Your thoughts?
• If you saw Niki Pilic right now, what would you do: turn the other way or punch him?
For Cilic…………..
• Are your really injured or is this another cover up of doping allegations? Does the name “Doper Cilic” offend you”
• Lets talk about your hometown for a second. Do you really believe gospa appeared in a village in the middle of nowhere or has this turned out to be an elaborate marketing stroke of genious by a few hercegovci and Irish to create a booming tourism industry?
• Being a hercegovac who lived in Zagreb for a long time, do you feel the animosity in that city towards hercegovci? Can you blame the public for feeling that way?
• Which tournament on tour has the best “picketine”?
• Do you allow your girlfriend to travel with you on tour? If so, why on earth would you do that?
• Has Goran offered you financial tips or has he asked you for a low-interest loan?
• Do you approve of Dejan Lovren’s lifestyle?
For Vekic……
• Who are you again?
• At what point do you have to get some results before we stop paying attention to you?
• If your career keeps going in this direction, wouldn’t it make sense for you to find a rich sugar daddy?
• Are we 2 years away from watching a feature on the Tennis Channel about you titled, “Where are they now?”
As always, your thoughts are welcomed croatian sports dot com nation.
Right, like anyone really cares to hear “how are feeling?” type of questions. So, you guys only visit message boards where you agree on the content, huh?
@vatrena cast……..instead of having a voting system, how about you just skip over my post. Wouldn’t that be just as easy?
i have a suggestion to the moderators! you should enable a voting system on the comments and if a comment gets -5 votes it gets taken off automatically. it would take away stupid comments no one wants to read like ziva’s aka “ann coulter’s” comments.
FYI no one cares about your immature & pointless fake questions
I’ll have questions for you later in the day.
Cool interview first time I seen it, good luck Ivo, Donna and Marin!
