Was it when the Vatreni had to go on the road and win in Ukraine to force a playoff against Greece to ultimately qualify for the World Cup in Russia?
Or was it when the men’s water polo team were crowned World Champions in July?
How about that Mario Mandžukić bicycle kick goal in the Champions League Final?
Where does Luka Modric’s run at Real Madrid rank? He now has three Champions League trophies in the past four seasons and a Croatian has now lifted the CL trophy five years in a row.
With all that said, the ‘Croatian Athletes of the Year’ don’t even come from any of the above mentioned teams. Sandra Perković, a world champion in the discus throw, and current world gymnastics champion, Tin Srbić, were named Croatian athletes of the year in the women’s and men’s fields, respectively.
So what was your Croatian sports moment of the year?
Nothing beats qualifying for the World Cup.
Rumours that Croatia might play Brazil in a friendly?

We have the toughest possible path to the Finals. Our group is the Group of Death in both the group stage and even the knockout rounds.
If we win this thing, it would probably be some sort of record as we would be facing off against all the contenders starting from the Round of 16 all the way to the finals. Literally we’d be facing one of the top 5 teams in each round. It’s insane.
Not sure Ante I’d have to say Rogers Sportsnet.
Not sure if there’s any ties to ESPN.
For them to even predict Cro has gotten me pumped.
And why not our roster is stacked.
If Dalic can put that puzzle together damn right it could happen.
@ Stef,
WOW. Some bold predictions there. I can guarantee 2 of those won’t happen. Messi won’t be sold and City will absolutely lose some games.
Is ESPN not the biggest sports network in Canada?
Ante please post this article somewhere. It’s the largest sports station in Canada. If they predict #3 correctly I can die in my sleep in peace.

we won the group at euro2016, shouldnt we had been more confident against portugal?
I really hope there isn’t some sort of Messi conspiracy
I guess as long as we get out of the group anything can happen and we wouldn’t see Argentina potentially till the end I’m assuming
If we somehow won our group confidence would be sky high Ans anything could happen
I’m voting for that over a choke
I still say we had dalic against Portugal we would have beat them
@ TRUTH
Weren’t Yugos commies?
ante is a yugo
Every one knows Argentina is going to win the World Cup Hollywood ending for Lionel Messi’s International career.
🙂
I love you guys, I really do.
It was all part of my master plan. I knew the players would read the op-ed. They wouldn’t like some dude from the diaspora telling them what to do. They came out in the 2nd half against Ukraine with a fire lit under their asses and the rest is history. World Cup bound.
You’re welcome.
^ ^
I hope you and John Molinaro are right.
I’ll be putting at least $20 on it.
@ Poglavnik
Croatia will win the 2018 FIFA World Cup
Since the first tournament was held in 1930, only eight nations have won the World Cup. Croatia will become the ninth, shedding its perennial “dark horse” label and finally coming good by stunning the field next summer in Russia.
Man what the heck would all the cynical Self-Hating Hrvati (SHH) do with themselves ?
If that happens then Modrić can just go ahead and pick his Ballandor in July!
Jebi ga … Uvijek Vjerni
Btw that link has us winning the World Cup?!..
@BZ
U beat me to it. 😉

Their best moment was when Ante lost all faith in them and proceeded to say they didn’t deserve to make the world cup.
@ BZ
That’s cold … giving AK the Ziva treatment !
These questions remind of how nogomet centric we have become as a nation.
I love all the sports that our talented athletes champion but they pale in comparison to what we bring to World Football.
2018 is our year !
U boj …
I say this with tonguein cheek… The best moment was when this didn’t happen:
“So to you, Croatia’s most loyal fans, I say:
Separate yourselves emotionally from this team. For now. Because the players have already done so.
I just wish they would take one more giant leap and refuse to play on Monday.”
