Slaven Bilić has not yet made up his mind and we will all find out soon enough who Niko Kovač’s predecessor as captain of Croatia will be; but for now, the fans have spoken and chosen Darijo Srna to lead the ‘Vatreni’ into the 2010 World Cup and beyond.
In a unanimous decision, 61% of you voted for Srna, while Modrić, Šimunić and Robert Kovač equally shared the remainder of the votes. A total of 121 people participated in this latest poll- thank you all.
Early indicators and rumors pointed to Srna being named captain. I thought a lot more of you would have put Šimunić up there with Srna- but it was obviously a landslide decision. Now we must wait for the ‘one all important vote’ from Bilić to become official. Will Srna in fact walk out of the tunnel in Bucharest as the new captain?
SRNA IN TEARS AFTER THE TURKEY LOSS
Srna has been with the Croatian senior team since 2002. He has netted 17 goals in 62 appearances. He is also the current captain of Ukrainian side, Shakhtar Donetsk, who are a Champion’s League caliber team.
So as one poll closes, another begins. This one should really get some of you into heated debates:
WHO SHOULD REPLACE NIKO KOVAČ IN THE MIDFIELD?
Ognjen Vukojević, Ivan Jurić, Jerko Leko or Nikola Pokrivač?
(PICK ONE)
Slaven bilic has him reday for romania game Eduardo will show us there at Romaina what he can do for us and for arsenal
Unlikely, Wenger had this to say about Eduardo:
“I believe Eduardo is two or three games short to be thrown into a cup game like at Cardiff, but I think in two or three weeks he will be ready.
“Of course he wants to play in every single game now because he has been frustrated for so long.
“I still believe he needs at least one more game in the reserves and maybe, when Croatia play on 11 February against Romania, he can get a game there. After then, he should be ready.”

I don’t know to make of his reference to the Romania game
any1 kknow if Eduardo da silva will play tomorrow against cadiff?/
He never was able to break through the EPL. I think he had one respectable year and because of his age and injuries he kept sustaining in the EPL he retired. Its too bad ’cause if he was found earlier in his career, he probably would of succeeded.
what happened to Davor Sukur? Flop with arsenal. though he was great in France ’98. is he coaching somewhere?
For those of you Tennis fans, Ante and I will be posting the latest from the Australian Open here:
Croatians Down Under
This post will be updated almost daily up until the last Croat.
Srna should be the captain. He is far more vocal than Simunic. He is already the captain of his club team, and no Croatian plays with more heart.
What I wouldn’t give***
I picked Srna to be captain. Also, I am with Ante. I’d go with Vukojevic, but I would be open to him having a competition with Juric (who admittedly I don’t know much about). Winner gets the job, other guy gets top sub for the role. Leko has never really broken through, and I am not overly impressed with what I have seen from Pokrivac to date.
Having a deeper team will only help us. I wouldn’t give to have another Corluka type revelation on D show himself soon….we are seriously HURTING their for quality.
we would have to many young players im not saying vuko isnt bad but he needs to learn from Juric plus he learnd some from Juric.Trust Bilic
I agree Ante. Vukojevic has already been serving for the national team so it makes sense for him to be the replacement for Kovac. Still have to give Juric a chance though. It seems like this guy has something to offer us considering how well he has been playing in Italy this season.
My only issue with Juric is his age. Sure he’s the best option right now but I’m positive the World Cup 2010 run is all he’s got left in him. He’s going to be 34 when the World Cup starts. I say let him be Vukojevic’s backup. Let Vuko start and gain experience, leadership while sharpening his skills at the international level. That’s just my take on it.
I say Juric should replace Kovac. From the stuff I’ve seen he makes great decisions and always seems to be in the thick of things when his club scores goals. I’m not sure how his defensive ability matches up, but considering his age and experience I’m sure he is solid.
QWOOO SRNA ZA KAPETAN WOOO OUR TEAM IS GETTING BETTER AND EDUARDO IS BACK FOR FIRST TEAM FOR ARSENAL!!!
