New York Giants offensive guard David Diehl earned his second Super Bowl ring Sunday night in Indianapolis. The Chicago-born Diehl comes from a German father and a Croatian mother. He traveled to Croatia for the first time in the summer of 2011 to track his roots down. Diehl wears a large Grb tattoo proudly on his left arm and visited Hajduk’s Poljud Stadion last year, where he was gifted a 100-year anniversary jersey.

Diehl looks to be a proud Croatian and has continued his streak of wearing Croatian scarves after big wins in the NFL. He sure did not disappoint his New York Croatians on this night.
@ Ziva
They have been back for a while, reguarly playing in the North American Croatian Tournament.
@josko,
You make some valid points. Jim Rome is my boy, but he talks so much shit against soccer(football). Also, “world champions” is typical American mentality. Even baseball cals its championship the “world series”. I never understood this mentality.
I’m not an NFL fan so I’m with Rooney…haha..
Bravo Rooney, couldn’t agree with you more. For those of you who got seriously offended by his comment you are truly American. This is no different when I get offended by Jim Rome talking shit about football (or soccer as you might call it).
And someone please explain to me how the Giants are now called the “world champions”, when only one country in this world plays this sport. The European football leagues are comprised of NFL rejects in America if anyone was going to use that to counter my point.
I’m assuming Croatia New York is the cro soccer club out in the NY area. I thought they went down 10 years ago or so, must be back now.
@ stef
“Can’t stand the scarf ”
Why? Do you hate New York Croatia? You are clearly full of class stef (rollseyes)
I’m a big NFL fan but I also liked Wayne Rooney’s comments. It just goes to show what most of the rest of the world probably thinks when they watch American Football. Im glad Rooney had the balls to talk a bit of shit on the almighty Super Bowl. Especially when I constantly read negative comments from North Americans about football (soccer) is boring. Fact is, for me that Super Bowl was pretty unspectacular.
Congats to Diehl and the new york giants.
Nice to see the checks present at the super bowl.
Congrats to Diel! Thanks to him I was a Giants fan for the day. Trade him to the Seahawks!
He’s the real Diehl! Congrats.
1) Jebi se Wayne Rooney.
2) Bravo to David Diehl and the NY Giants!!!
What does it matter? Were talking about David and the Super Bowl here. All that matters is that our boy David Diehl got the win. Can’t stand the scarf but respect for the checkers and respect for David for putting it on. Truly made us proud big guy.
I’ll work on that Diehl interview for CSR now that the season is done
@Nizic…..very nice of you to think of me during the Super Bowl. It appears I have gotten in your mind. Ziva Istina wins again.
I’m proud of the fact Diehl did that, but it still doesn’t change what I said a few days ago. Diehl, or anyone else wearing a cro scarf, doesn’t make him any more croatian or less croatian than he was the night before hoisting the scarf. I applaud all of our first and second-generation hrvati to embrace the hrvatstvo inside of them.
As for Rooney’s comments…..this game was not a classic or a great game. Very entertaining game, but not a well played game. Few spectacular plays. For outsiders watching an NFL game, this is probably the equivalent of an American waking up in the early morning hours to watch World Cup Cricket or tuning in to watch the Australian Grand Finale in Aussie football.
Remember this, the Champions League final still draws 3X the world-wide crowd of a Super Bowl.
This is the 1st time I have ever remotely agreed with Wayne Rooney.
With that said, I will root for Diehl, just like any other Cro in any other sport.
We Americans are conditioned to accept/love all the commercial bullshit.
LOVE IT!
BRAVO DAVID! Congrats!
-U-
thats what I love too see a a truely proud CROATIAN take note ziva
Well done to Diehl, in a simple little act he has positively promoted New York Croatia. I think thats a good lesson for this site, as great as it is the lack of coverage of our diaspora club is a glaring omission.
i agree with roonie
Great super bowl.
I just thought it was funny how people across the pond felt about America’s NOW #1 past time vs theirs.
a happy moment not a buzzkill moment?
I thought you said you hated the giants
@Allen
Wayne Rooney is a piece of garbage that is a dirtbag. Don’t post crap on here like this Rotten Child. This is a happy moment, not a buzz kill moment.
