One season after showing they were human, Dinamo Zagreb restored the status quo in Croatia; defeating Hajduk 1-0 in the Croatian Cup Final Wednesday night, giving them the “domestic double” after already winning the league.
Former Rijeka star Mario Gavranović was the difference in the match, scoring on a 55th minute defensive blunder by Hajduk.
But the match was completed with much controversy as Hajduk believed the referees completely blew the game. In the first half, a Hajduk break away was called offside which could have easily seen the Dinamo player sent off. The replay shows that Hajduk was onside and the play should not have been stopped.
Onside or off?
Penalty or flop?
Hajduk could have easily scored two first half goals, but at the end of the day, they will end another season without a trophy, even though they are winning the war in the social media department.
The Fix was In as Usual !
Hajduk was the better team in all 3 matches I saw between them this season.
Being a referee for over 10 years and I have played for most of my life, and based on the angle shown, it looks like the Hajduk player was onside when the ball is played through. This incorrect call changes the possible outcome of the game especially since the Dinamo defender takes the Hajduk striker down afterwards.
I think the ref makes a good call not giving a penalty kick. The ref must have been directly behind the Hajduk player, who was looking to go down at the slightest contact and there was almost no contact. I think he did well showing the Hajduk player a yellow card.
True, misread it
@Goku
That 2010 semi run includes this Uruguayan generation.
Im talking about decades before.
I’m guessing that in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s they weren’t a top 20 side because they failed to qualify for the WC many times back then.
Don’t remember who it was ridiculing Sarri…..for not playing rog….well he’s about to get the Chelsea job
Well making the semi finals in 2010 isnt pretty lousy
I’m not so sure the offside was the refs fault, the linesman put up his flag and called it. The penalty was a penalty but when you look at the replay from the front view, he sure goes down easily!
Hajduk should probably have had the call for the penalty. When I look at the replay of the offside call, nobody from Hajduk objected…could the camera view have obscured our view…nobody seemed to protest that call!?!?
At the end of the day, I’ve been reading here on this site that Hajduk were gonna win things this year and that they’ve changed….I see much of the same story…losing when they should win, fans beating up players and vandalizing their property, the uprava and coaching in a shambles, having the coach explain himself to some of their fans! That’s shameful and not the behaviour of a winning organization. It’s been years since they’ve done anything in that league and their loudest voices always point the finger elsewhere.
I’d love to see Hajduk bear down and win something! Beat Dinamo, it would be the absolute best thing for Croatian soccer to have a competition and not always the same shit!
Also this might just be a golden generation for Uruguay. They were pretty lousy for decades.
This is the same generation of Uruguayan players that represented them in Canada at the U20 WC. Got to watch Suarez and Cavani here in Vancouver. We’ll see if they’re still a top 20 side when those 2 retire.
I was thinking that too.
Although a lot of MLS clubs have been poaching players from Uruguay lately and Uruguay were the 2nd team to qualify from CONMEBOL so it wouldn’t surprise me if their league is better.
@pog. Nope! Perhaps Uruguay I think.
Is there any other perennial top 20 footballing nation with a worse league than ours?
We have good individual players thats why who arr stars. Thr EPL has over 70% of foreign players in their which doesnt help their national team.
I rarely bother to watch Croatian games but this was like watching two fat girls have sex. Two of the best clubs in Croatia and they are both on par quality wise with a team like Crawley town. How we have developed such a strong national team in the last 10 years is beyond me.
Easy peasy 😉
Glad I’m not a Hajduk fan or I’d be (continuously) choked.
