Dinamo Zagreb draw Slovenian champions, NK Maribor, to face in the play off round of the Champions League.
Maribor has just recently won its nation’s double, taking their 10th Slovenian first league title and their seventh Slovenian Cup this past season. The club topped the league table, sitting 20 points ahead of the runner up. They are also one of three Slovenian clubs that have never been relegated out of the Slovenian first league. Maribor advanced to the play off round after successfully beating Luxembourg’s F91 Dudelange.
Maribor is the last remaining obstacle in the Dinamo’s path to its second consecutive Champions League appearance. Coming off a convincing 5-0 agr. win over FC Sheriff, they go in to the first leg as favorites.
“They are a quality opponent that we know well and it is going to be two interesting games. Their results; winning league titles and the Slovenian Cup and advancing to the play off round of the Champions League, are worthy of respect.” – Ante Cacic
“Maribor is a good team, a team that has risen in recent years to great results, but we have a quality team and we wish once again to be in the Champions League and we will do all everything we need to in order to succeed.” – Milan Badelj
The first match will be played at Maksimir on Wednesday August, 22 and the return leg is set for six days later in Slovenia.
| Bonjour cela vous d
Bottom line, if Dinamo can’t beat our friendly neighbors to the north, they dont deserve champions league. I will be slightly rooting for Dinamo in this one 🙂
We gave them access to the Sea…For What??? Shitty people!
All i have to say, is when I was in Ljubljana, the sloven capital, i was treated perfectly fine, until they learned I was hrvat. all of a sudden they became much more hostile. Sure not all are bad apples, but the ones i dealt with were guaranteed serb sympathizers!
Alpine Serbs? They are more like Alpine Croats. Catholics that use a Roman alphabet.
Some of the ones I’ve met have been a little bit arrogant or uppity, especially about language. At 1st, I thought it was because my Croatian is far from stellar, but native speakers told me they had the same impressions.
@Ante B:
I have met plenty of great Hercegovce, but the criminal element is ruining Zagreb.
@HAET:
I looked at that drawing you linked to the other day. Strange how it doesn’t reference particular countries, percentages or time frames. I am not pro-open immigration to Europe, but that link was weak. I am glad to see that you were not involved in Wisconsin. That idiot didn’t even know what a Sikh is.
Ante B & Pog , both are Jerks
@Jelic
Field hockey chicks are babes!
I really only noticed during these Olympics, but come to think of it, at my high school there were lots of hotties playing it.
Maybe its because im Canadian and we didnt have ice hockey at our high schools in Vancouver.
The Maribor ultras aren’t generally Serbian…they are actually right-wing Slovenians, yes there is such thing as them lol 😀
It’s a good draw for Dinamo, but if they lose to Maribor they will NEVER hear the end of it, remember the 2010 World Cup how much the Slovenians gloated over that. If Dinamo play their best game it shouldn’t be too much of a problem, but I fear Maribor will be much more motivated than Dinamo, this is a game of a generation for Maribor, its not often they have this great of a chance to make the CL
Sorry for the typo mistakes, I am writing in a Tablet and sometimes it make the things a little complicated when you try to writte fast (the System autocompleted some words all the time, even if I don’t wanna write those words)
@Ante B whats is the origin of this resentment (is just in Zagreb or the tensions are high in other areas Dalmacija, Slavonia, Istra …) I know croatia had a war inside the war in B&H( muslins and croats fight agaisnt the serbs but at the same time they fight each other in the liberated zones) this is the main cause or is more complicated.
Anonymous,
I don’t want to kill them. I just want our boys in the stands to be louder and bat shit crazy than them. Fuck this Romper Room meets Reading Rainbow.
Ziva,
I get shit all the time for marrying a Hercegovka (fun only) but the anti HRC resentment in Zagreb is intense. Saw this graft one year “uzmite hercegovce, vratite nam srbe.” if I was a Hercegovac I’d paint over that every day

I can’t believe we’re having this conversation. Sure there are some Slovenian idiots who scream anti-Croatian words during a football game. First, they are idiots. Second, do they do that because they the Croats or because they want to support their team or react against the anti-Slovenian comments of the Croatians and third, were they drunk?
Ante B and others: you should read “the clash of the civilications” by Huntinghton. You’ll learn that Croatians and Slovenians are on the same side. They even fought for centuries against the Muslims.
They hate you, you hate them, they want to kill you, you want to kill them: this is the deffinition of the lowest common denominator.
As Jelic said, there are idiots within every nationality.
lowest common denominator…..what a minute, i thought those were the hercegovci according to my Zagreb friends.
Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
Jelic,
So we should ignore the actions of our Alpine Serb neighbors, but should have the entire world highlight what we say and put us down for it? Something doesn’t add up there.
Being at a few games, even the Ireland game this past Euro, I take offense to comment about being the lowest common denominator when it comes to national team matches. Dish the money and go to a major event. Until then, stop with the idiotic talk. Just cause the media tells you something, doesn’t mean it’s true.
The Slovenes are trash, the Bosnians are terrorists, the Serbs are third world, etc, etc, etc. None of these comments get deleted and the anti-whites LOVE it! All I ever say is:
‘We must secure the existence of our people and a future for White Children’
And I’m called the “hater” and INSTANTLY censored – WATCH.
Anti-racist is a code word for anti-white.
France win again in Handball
tough loss for our handball team. Out matched and out classed by the French. They have our number. Balic still amazing even at his age.
Svaka ti cast Ante, ona je vrlo zgodna!
It’s obvious Jelic and I have reached a major impasse but I will raise you that Croatian woman basketball player. Ajme meni
joj meni………were some of you born yesterday. The slovenians have always been trash. Go spend time in Ljubljana, fucken serbs all over the place.
i do agree with Jelic that its only a game. But, the slovenes are serb lovers.
It’s still just a game…..
No but it’s not to just sit there and take it. If we’re using sticks and stones analogy then your argument goes out the window right away. They’re just words then, no? Why not continue doing what we have been doing whenever we play them? Beat them on the field and in the tribine. I don’t subscribe to the oh lets hold hands and ignore them. This isn’t baseball.
So what’s your response, drop a bomb on them for that?
Didn’t mama and tata ever mention to you that old adage sticks and stones will beak my bones……
Who gives a fuck what 25,000 of them scream? In a soccer game? Beat the idiots on the field and they can then go fuck themselves as they are out of the competition.
What about when 25,000 of them are screaming ubij Ustase? Because lets be realistic, that’s what we are to them despite this Hands Across America moment you’re having.
Sorry, but point I think remains.
Idiots to me are idiots, whatever their nationality. I much prefer to look at the person rather than what his passport says.
The last “friendly” match with Slovenia in Maribor shortly after the Euro’s in 2008 had the Slovenes chanting “Ubij Ubij Ubij Ustase”
Which just re-affirmed that which I have known for a long time … That like it or not, Slovenes are Alpine Serbs.
I was referring to the Slovenians in both of the above comments.
Well I also spelled out numerous ways to rid stadia of these slobs when HRV were still in Euro and being fined disproportionately.
Passive agressive? Not so much.
I was simply responding now to your claim that just because you’ve been in a stadium during a game with Serbs, they have to be mentioned non-stop? I don’t see the connection.
Hope Solo? Naaaaah. Try to the Dutch field hockey team, now there’s some primo pickice!
Hope they are? Here’s a perfect example of passive agressiveness failing completely. I can hope Dinamo is going to win CL. Hell I could hope Hope Solo shows up in front of me naked but that hope gets me nowhere, just like your suggestion. I equate to Miss America stating she wants to rid he world of war and hunger, especially in “The Iraq”
Ante B, you go to ANY Repka game in Europe amongst any nations and you are going to see the lowest common denominator amongst both sets of fans.
Drunken, ill-behaved, un-educated slobs who are only there to draw attention to themselves and cause problems. Every society has that element, including Croatians.
The best way to treat them? Ignore the sranje and hopefully they are marginalized.
Once you non political clown shoes go to a game against them, then talk. Until then spare us the sranje you spew
I wish I could go with the BBB to Maribor for the return leg. Were any of you at the away game against Werder Bremen a couple of Years ago? One of the craziest gostovanje ever.
Agree with you Istina Pliva, who gives a shit about them.
Move on already.
You dudes all have a Serb-fetish, get over it already. Move on and leave that 3rd-world country be.
trazime je na karti al nema je slovenijeeee
fucking alpine serbs !!!
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Majmun could care less if the get spanked again, just let the money flow from the group stages….
@ ante b you nailed it straight on… even being a dinamo fan i wasnt sure if i wanted them to make the champions leauge again after last years debacle.. but now that all changes
wow to think dinamo is going to make the group stage again after last years performance in the cl.
Slovenske picke! Alpski srbi!
