With only nine games remaining in the 2010-11 HNL term, the season ends (or begins) with the result of one game: Dinamo Zagreb v. Hajduk Split. How else would you have it? The two Croatian giants face off in yet another ‘Eternal Derby’ in Zagreb at 3:10 (ET) this Saturday, March 19th.
Dinamo already hold a five-point advantage on Hajduk atop the Croatian table. Should the boys from Zagreb win, they can bust out their blue double-decker buses at Maksimir in victory, as an eight point lead with eight games remaining should be enough for their sixth straight title. A draw would keep Hajduk in the running but Dinamo would still have to fall apart during the final stretch to give the Splićani a shot.
However, should Hajduk pull off a massive road victory in Zagreb, all is still to play for this season. Hajduk would only be two points behind their hated rivals and the HNL would finally have some spice down the final run for the first time since the Clinton administration.
The first game between Hajduk and Dinamo ended 1-1 at Poljud. How will this chapter end?
@ jersey,
i think you missed my sarcasm…
well….Dinamo actually have a European trophy..of course the response will be it is a "mickey mouse" trohpy but whatever.
Too bad none of Hajduk's players will ever play for the NT, and the ones who do get called up I have no clue how they do it 😉
dinamo beat the most croatian team, not to mention the most successful croatian team in european competitions. i think the ref was to blame. mamic has no money left after paying for this one.
No surprise…..hajduk is shit. Maksimir stadium is shit. Dinamo is a decent side compared to Hajduk.
Thankfully the cro league ends soon.
@jerseyCro,
I disagree with you on Hajduk's "performance being pathetic". Hajduk showed up and for the most part gave 100%. The talent is not there. the experience is not there. With a little luck, Hajduk and Dinamo tie, despite Dinamo being far more superior over Hajduk.
Thats like saying, Minnesotas performance was pathetic last night against the Lakers. A little bit of luck and the Lakers lose last night at home. Lakers performance was pathetic.
Dinamo could have very easily won this game by more than two goals. Hajduk had some chances, but overall their performance was pretty pathetic. They will still find a way to blame the refs/Mamic…
I watched most of the match. Dinamo was hands down the better team tonight. Hajduk had 2-3 chances on goal, while Dinamo had 6-8. Subasic did well in goal, however, I think a better keeper would have saved one of the two goals.
It was funny to watch Dinamo celebrate like they won the Champions League Final.
After selling Strinic and Ibricic, I expected Hajduk to finish second in the HNL. No chance they can compete with Dinamo's United Nations team
@Ante B,
haha… funny guy.
My internet is down. Who won?
A good match is all we can ask for, im hoping Hajduk can trow a spanner in to the works, make HNL more interesting, but some how a doubt it. final result Dinamo-1 Hajduk-0
