Reigning Croatian champions NK Dinamo Zagreb had their three point UEFA Europa League deduction replaced with a €75,000 fine as well as a three-year suspended ban from European competition. One more strike (i.e., supporter disturbance) will put the 3-year ban into effect.
The initial three-point deduction by UEFA stemmed from crowd disturbances by Dinamo Zagreb fans during a Europa League match away at Romanian side FC Timişoara on October 1.
Further, in a ruling upheld by UEFA, Dinamo is also banned from allowing fans into its home ground, Stadion Maksimir, for its two remaining Europa League contests against AFC Ajax on November 5 and Timişoara on December 17.
The returned three points bring Dinamo off the bottom of Group A and above FC Timişoara, but Dinamo still trail Ajax and Anderlecht by five points with two games remaining in the group stage. Only the top two sides in each group qualify for the next stage of the competition.
The fine aside: A three-year suspended ban from European competition is definitely going to anger many people (to say the least) and hopefully put some wheels in motion. Actions have to be taken to eradicate the hooligans or this will be a never-ending plague for Croatia. Measures have to be taken by clubs (not just Dinamo), fans (not just the BBB), police & government. Within Croatia, better stadium surveillance is a must, as individuals need to be held accountable and punished with bans and fines coming from their own HNS as opposed to the UEFA big shots.
Thanks to Michael for breaking the story to us!
Whats with all the Croatian babes marrying fugly foriegn soccer players? Its almost like if your ugly stupid and look like a mongoloid but know how to kick a ball, your the shit. It couldnt be the money , could it? I think its probably because they know how to dance the kolo and Severina songs good, or make better Croatian cakes, cabbabge rolls and stuff.
Hehe yeah yesterday really we're celebrating getting our 3 points back. The fine is change we have in our back pocket. The ban is a worry, but at the end of the day there is nobody severely injured or hurt during the match in question so 3 years is excessive. Mamic warned before every match and preseason about what was going to happen. This is a group of people against the clubs administration, this is not a group of people who are acted as part of the club. It'll happen again no question about that. Mamic has already said there are people who want to get Dinamo kicked out of Europe so why is UEFA not listening.
Also need to point out that we don't need sell our best players. We are still very well off. When you recieved near 50m for Modric, Corluka, Eduardo, Pokrivac, Drpic, Schildenfeld, Cale, Vukojevic this goes a long way and lasts a long time. The only players likely to leave are Mandzo and Vrdoljak and that's really only cos they've been in Dinamo for such a long time and are starting to go stale.
I'd highly doubt Lovren, Morales, Badelj and Tomecak are going anywhere. We actually need to buy and clear out reserves rather than sell. We clearly need a striker. I watched Sasa Bjelanovic play for Vicenza yesterday and was very impressed. Clearly this is the guy we need to see us seal the title this year. Zec should be other player on our radar, but only if Mandzo goes.
Yes ANTE, I had incorrectly posted it to begin with and I wrote it on here to make my correction.
I apologize.
Noted, and corrected. My apologies if there was any confusion.
They haven't been banned yet. Another supporter disturbance will ONLY cause a ban of three years. Make sure to state that instead of saying they have already been banned because that is completely inaccurate.
The way it is as per UEFA.com is that it's a 3 year suspended sentence. Kinda like probation, basically one more strike and their out for that time. I don't believe it's an official ban on all European play (my apologies)

So with the BBB set to travel to Anderlecht Dec.2, look for their official European ban to occur then. What will this mean, well….
1) All big name players on the team will be sold asap to bring in money. It will be just simply developing internally for the next 3 years. Perhaps other clubs can take top spot?
2) Unless Hajduk, Slaven, Rijeka or some new contender emerges……our co-effecient will drop to really new lows.
3) Mamic will more than likely leave, with Bandic not being re-elected as Mayor of Zagreb. – This is mainly a pipe dream.
