Dinamo Zagreb travel to Spain on Thursday to face La Liga contenders Sevilla in Europa League action. Dinamo finished second in group stage behind West Ham United while Sevilla finished third in their Champions League group. The winner of this two-legged affair will earn a spot in the Europa League Round of 16 next month. The loser’s European campaign will end.
This is not last year’s Dinamo Zagreb; even with Mislav Oršić staying with the team through the winter break. Ivan Rakitić and Sevilla are favorites to progress and are -275 to win Thursday night in Spain. Not a good sign for Dinamo but we will see if there’s anymore European magic left in them from last year’s run when they ousted Tottenham in extra time through an Oršić hat trick.
If livakovic was playing lights out for NK seloallstars great but he is not cutting it at Dinamo where he doesn’t get peppered with shots normally
A great goalie would have made up for a lot at euros last year
Can anyone comment how ivusic is doing?
Wasn’t at fault for any goal at the Euros but sure.
He wasn’t, but at the same time he’ll never bail you out
Livakovic – no thank you. We want to win. Nice kid but the most nervous lily flower- God love him- he’s a good boy just can’t stop shots when you need him- any of these other guys are better in bigger moments.
Do you remember the two incredible stops he made against Kane and Bale in the closing seconds against Tottenham? Either ball goes in and Dinamo goes home. Absolutely clutch.
In other news, Borna Barisic had a good game for Rangers in their 4-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund. It’s good to have him on the bench. He’s a smart player, actually. He gets into dangerous positions, has a good left foot, and he knows how to draw fouls. Rangers relies on him pretty heavily to move the ball up the field.
Does kalinic get back into the mix for keepers?
Not nikola;)
So I guess it’s grbic job to lose
Maybe ivusic will get another shot
I think he is back from injury… if so how is he doing?
Grbić has had a very good season overall. If you exclude his last performance against PSG, he has been excellent. Maybe he just needed a break and gets back on the field for LOSC this weekend or in the Champions League next week.
The problem is that Dalic takes a looong time to integrate new players, and he remains very loyal to previous regulars.
We all thought Majer should have started against Russia after his hot streak in the French league, but he ended up on the bench, with Vlasic, Livaja and even Petkovic ahead of him.
I expect Livakovic to still be our #1 keeper right now…but this could change because the tournament is still almost a year away, so it gives Grbic a lot of time to continue to start for a French Ligue 1 team, and Livakovic to continue to screw up in the HNL.
I find that really hard to believe. Lovre Kalinic is having a good season for Hajduk, making all of the saves he needs to and commanding his box pretty well. Grbic is generally having a good season at Lille, and he got them to the knockout rounds of the Champions League and could get them even further. He almost advanced them to the quarterfinals of the coupe de France with a great performance against Lens, but his team’s defense was so poor that they gave up a 2-0 lead and then missed too many penalties. Meanwhile, Livakovic has been having a pretty bad season, actually.
Totally agree that Majer is a starter, but let’s not forget Livaja scored 2 for Croatia in 3 or 4 of the games played for that tournament and currently he has 21 goals and 5 or 6 assists top scorer of Prva Liga. Plus he has won best player of the Prva Liga this year so don’t count the guy out. Plus I do think Vlasic can be good with time he is still young. I just think it has to do with pairing Livaja beside Perisic, and maybe Pasalic or Orsic on the other side. To me that’s a great front line.
Petkovic is either lazy, out of shape, or both. Your right about Livakovic…he’s lacking confidence. I’m not sure if he’ll ever become a great keeper. Dinamo was doing OK for a lot of the game. They just couldn’t finish, and had a few defensive errors.
There is a couple of things working against livakovic
He is not a confident young
He severely lacks the confidence required for a goalkeeper
He is all at sea
There’s no saving him
I was always worried about his size
Ok you can be his size as a keeper but then you are usually a brilliant shot stopper
He can never collect crosses or makes point blank saves on the line
If he plays for croatia I’m sorry Dalic has to be sacked just on this alone
Rakitic knows it
Look at his face on the photo
Says it all really!
Dinamo a bit unlucky to lose 3 – 1. Livakovic will struggle to get back his spot in the national team on this form. Petkovic is not fit as usual. Juric missed a great chance in the 54 min. Orsic is in good form and was the best Dinamo player.
Rakitic also played well for Sevilla.
That wasn’t unlucky at all for Dinamo, they didn’t have enough players like Orsic to play on the front line. Sevilla was able to shut down Dinamo’s attack, the main opportunity came from Orsic who is one hell of player, but the other players had some issues. The defence broke down multiple times, and Sevilla took advantage they had 16 to 18 shots in total (twice as much as Dinamo) with 6 on goal and of the 6 on goal 3 connected, obviously one was penalty, but still. Dinamo only had 9 shots in total, it tells you that something is lacking up front. The main problem from what I viewed, is Petkovic I think he is a terrible player. There is no purpose to how he moves or what he does. Look I’m a Dalmatinac, but even so I would love for a Croatian team (even Dinamo) to go far despite that I am a Hajduk fan. Ultimately, it’s good for Croatian soccer and brings more notoriety and accolades for the entire league and they start to notice our players. But that game for me was proof of two things, both Petkovic and Livakovic aren’t starters.
Livakovic is so bad……….. i miss Suba
As an away game that wasn’t a terrible half, great goal by Orsic! Shit collapse at for 5 mins. A decent second half without conceding and getting 1 back would be a great result heading back home down 1 with a couple away goals.
I think away goals are just goals now, there’s no away goal rule any more, unless im mistaken?
Yes, away goals rule has been scrapped.
1 – 1, Orsic scores. Good cross from Ristovski, Orsic chests the ball, cuts in and scores. Unfortunately, in the next 4 minutes Sevilla score 2 goals and lead 3 -1.
Livakovic could have done better with the second goal despite a slight deflection.
oh FFS lol
ONYA Orsic!
Had to be Rakitic, didnt it, lol
Ivanusec is injured. Bad start, Livakovic conceeds a penalty and Rakitic scores from the spot.
Is Ivanusec injured or am I not up to date why he’s not playing or on the bench ?
This’ll be an absolute belting…. and by that i mean Dinamo gonna belt the stuffing out of Sevilla, obviously !
