Ante and Matt talk about where Modrić should retire to end his professional career — the answer rhymes with Schmyduk. Champions League semifinals. And a Croatian is guaranteed to play in the Champions League Final for a 12th straight year. Even Slavonac from Canada is mentioned…and defended.
Nice header from Beljo.
This is what we need to see more of.

Good job Beljo, hope he pops in a couple more before the season is out.
Lovrenesque dive on it;)
Awesome stuff
Hope he catches fire
Much love for the hajduk youth
Home grown quality talent
Working hard
The Croatian recipe for soccer success
Any of these kids can’t miss guys besides vuskovic?
Brajkovć has had an amazing tournament. Looks like our next Perišić.
Vrcić is actually a striker and has the highest transfer value according to Transfermarkt. He’s been scoring for the youth.
A lot of these guys are the kids of former footballers, which could bode well. Just like it has for Martin Baturina.
Congrats to the Hajduk boys
Brajkovic deliveries were spot on
Of course Brajković is from Zadar too.
Wonder what they put in the water over there.
Grgur of Nin must of blessed the water there maminjo
The power of all the locals’ urine on his toe, transmitted to tourist hands
Brajkovic is from Solin.
Congratulations to Hajduk’s Junior Team! After beating a better Man City team 2 rounds ago, you knew anything was possible.
They’re reminding us that you don’t need a stud striker to win, since we’ve all been whining about this about the National Team. The pass on the opening goal was fantastic. The header on the corner is something we haven’t seen in a while on the National Team and the third goal was opportunistic and the type that used be Ivica Olić’s specialty.
Buljan probably should have made the save on the lone goal, but made a superb stop on the near post that many would have let in.
I hope the flares that delayed the start of the kickoff after the first goal will not cause us to lose out on fans being able to watch the final on Friday.
Again, a great accomplishment, no matter what happens on Monday!
*Since you can’t edit posts, I meant to say “Monday” in the 2nd-to-last paragraph*.
Hajduk U19 deserve all of Croatia to cheer for them. They’re our kids for the future and they’ve just made a massive accomplishment, regardless of if they win or lose! What a smart team…scoring against the play and with limited opportunities! I’m really happy for those boys!
AC Milan remind me of France! No wonder Italian soccer is struggling, their kids don’t play!
I think you can say the same about Borussia Dortmund U19 as well, being mostly African players. I don’t know if AC Milan had more than a few legit Italian born players on the starting lineup.
Serbian born Šimic usually starts, but was benched for this one. Interesting decision since they gave up 3 goals and he’s a central defender.
We all know HNL is not great soccer. However, unlike other domestic leagues, it continues to develop our own players for the National Team.
Beljo scores
Caleta-Car too!? So says my internet lol.
Great news.
FT Hajduk 3 – AC Milan 1.
Monday final against AZ Alkamar.
Amazing achievement by Hajduk having knocked out Sahakter, Man City, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.
Hajduk – AC Milan 3 – 1 in 83 minute. Hopefully they can hold out.
Hajduk leading 2 – 0 against AC Milan with 20 minutes to go. Brajkovic with two assists. 3 – 0 Hrgovic in 76 minute after a mistake by AC Milan defence.
Looks like Final against AZ Alkamar who defeated Sporting on penalties.
Poor security at the ground heaps of pyrotechnics by Hajduk fans.
regarding the “Modric Farewell thing”!
Sometimes I ask myself if you can see anything outside of a Hajduk perspective? Your suggestion that maybe Luka should go to Hajduk to finish his career and boost ticket sales, boost the overall viewers interest and attendance, which would boost food and beer sales… is really shocking to me. Why? Because it would be the ultimate betrayal for a guy that became an international super star because of Mamic and Dinamo. It would be bad enough if someone like Lovren went to Hajduk, I really wouldn’t care but from a soccer perspective, he’d be the biggest piece of shit walking the earth. This is different from changing allegiances in the beginning of your career because of a lack of playing time, a contract dispute or a personnel dispute…ie Prosinecki, Kranjcar… players usually are grateful to their first major club for the opportunity they got, thankfulness for the belief in them as a player and they usually kiss the grb of that team…its sacred. Livaja was always a Hajdukovac but he’s nowhere near the quality of Modric, I don’t think there’s a comparison that can be made although we all know it would never happen!
Here’s exactly what I said Ante: “It’s not a great league but the top teams can beat clubs from any country in that are in the bottom half …including teams from England, Spain, Germany.” please note this part in particular “but the top teams can beat clubs from any country”…top teams (in Croatia) Dinamo, Hajduk, Rijeka, Osijek, Varazdin…I didn’t say our bottom teams. With that said, I’ve watched Istra play some VERY good games and they are somewhat of a Jeckyl and Hyde, I do believe they could compete with most bottom half teams in England.
With regards to the youth programs in North America, this is the most disappointing part of soccer on the continent. The culture and mentality of European soccer far outweighs anything you’ll ever see here. I’ve mentioned this before….in some cases, kids as young as 13 years old get paid by their clubs in Croatia while young kids in North America have to pay to participate at any level! When I say those kids get paid, I mean they make decent money, some of them more that $4000 Euro’s/month…ask Simunic or Jozak! I’ve seen many of my old teammates and friends here in Canada get jobs at the Whitecaps, National Team program and they make their living from this…they’ve never had any level or professional training nor are they qualified to coach anyone at a high level organization…while qualified people can’t get the opportunity because its always been a “who you know” type of situation here. My old friend Victor Montagliani ( we played Futsal and traveled the world together), who was always a chubby guy, never been in shape in his life…he became president of Canadian Soccer Association and then made his friend (Mike Findlay) the intern coach of the mens National Team…Findlay was the guy who handed out bibs to the subs during the games and was a terrible amateur…couldn’t make our Vancouver Croatia team and yet he coached Canada’s mens team with no professional experience at all. Same goes for tons of guys here in Vancouver that are employed and make a career getting paid for coaching the future of kids from my Province.
Eh moj Slavanoc…you don’t listen with your selective hearing. This I know to be true. I said Hajduk or Dinamo….or even Sibenik for all I car. It would be the ultimate farewell tour for Modric.
It’s purely for the farewell tour…however, as a result, that would increase tickets sales and television viewership etc etc.
I think it’s the perfect sendoff…no matter which HNL team he would play for. However I can only see it happening with Hajduk as he’s a Dalmatinac..and of course Dinamo who he grew up with.
Boban had his “farewell” match split with Dinamo and then AC Milan in the 2nd half.
Mentioning Modrić and Hajduk in the same sentence is silly. And this comes from a Hajduk fan.
The timing on this thread is odd….I’d rather be talking about how our Junior team is playing in the Champions League on Monday. What a story!!!
