@ Denis
Awesome comparison to Mexico…
Hopefully our players can get into a positive flow during the second half of the season and get a decent draw. (And that doesn’t mean a shitty draw)
How boring would Switzerland, Iran, Algeria be?
I’ll put up the WC draw simulator on Monday…that should be a fun convo for us all…seeing who we want and who to avoid…
I’m looking for an Argentina, USA, Cameroon or Spain, Australia, Chile group.
Bring on Spain again! We’ll get ’em this time….even though I don’t think they’ll be making it past the quarterfinals this WC.
Germany beats Brazil…
@Slavonac, if you read the link you posted it says on the bottom that it’s fiction. 😉
The site needs a new shirt. Thankfully they never made any shirts with Stimac’s face on them. I’m all in favor for Big Joe getting a shirt, much better than Ivica “A seven year old Brazilian does better step overs than me” Olic.
Let’s do it!
I may be the only person to never hear of this woman but has anyone else read her material…here’s something I’ve never seen before…what nationality is she?
http://mishkagora.wordpress.com/2012/09/07/fragments-of-war/
Now Ciro Blazevic has come out and said “What does Joe Simunic know about the NDH and who Ante Pavelic was? My two brothers died as Ustase.”
He then went on to mention other figures during the 1941-45 time frame and that Simunic is just a soccer player from Australia who couldn’t possibly know anything about this time frame.
Haha – I thought that the tired debate of who is the greater Croat was exclusive to CSR.
To his credit, he also questions how anyone at UEFA can possibly know the background of Za Dom Spremni – a slogan that has actually been changed around since 500AD.
Fucking sweet its Aussie so cheap delivery for me.. I noticed some Sydney Croatia ones on their site but didn’t realise it was aus based.
@armada, if i commentated my equivelant of Joes heart ratings would be iggys cunt ratings. Obviously every Serb would be a 10 out of 10

Think they are based out of Oz too.
Question:
If i’m making a youtube video of croatia’s road to world cup 2014, and im putting subtitles for each match, ie Belgium 1 – 1 Croatia etc.. is it acceptable when doing that, to – for the serbia games – replace the word serbia with “cunts” ?
majstore – can u link to the actual shop with that simunic shirt ?
Peep their fb page / website.
They have some cool & unique designs.
@majstore………..good find. but, that looks like shit. A good quality silhouette is much better. Any graphics folks out here….

Absolutely……….
So, where are the CSR boys??????…………lets get going with this order.
Plus, once the shirts are made, you can go to the Cro media and send them photos of the shirts. Gaurenteed they will have a little article on it.
Damn, you boys don’t pay me enough for the ideas and web hits I bring to you.
Beautiful idea Ziva!
I think on the front should be a silhouette of him holding a microphone like he was addressing a crowd (much like yesterday) and on the back should be a silhouette of him chopping down that Serb.
Those 2 options could be used in life in a number of situations. 🙂
@majstore
Love that video for the longest time.
Re: crazy joe
Would be tough to top this shirt.

@ Iggy
That’s a brilliant idea. I think it would be a huge hit on the HRT telecasts of the NT games. Maybe you and Cico could provide additional analysis? Definitely do it in English too.
Who needs Drago Cosic, Stico, etc. when you have Big Joe, Iggy and Cico.

Bravo japanska braca!
Za dom !!! U boj !!!
; )
lol, I’d buy that shirt, as long as delivery to Aus isn’t $40 itself or something !
This morning I was reading about the guy that criticized Simunic on his FB page…Zeljko Jovanovic….Jovanovic?
where was he when they put the name Vukovar in cirilica and when they burned the Croatian flag…whistled at the anthem?
@ Iggy – great idea. Simunic is the Mike Ditka of Croatian soccer.
@Ziva – I’ll take a large.
The less fans like Marko Dejanovic, the better!
yo, CSR boys…………..I got an idea for you to make some money for the site, or for yourselves or for your significant others, or even as a donation for Mama isitna and all the good work she does to keep me fed and clean.
Anyway, it is now time for a new t-shirt. Forget that Bilic t-shirt you guys had. This will be better. Now, i know I go on about how wearing the last name of another person on your back is wrong (IT JUST IS!!!), but I think everyone will be in favor of this one.
Get a silhouette of Simunic on the front of a t-shirt. And then either above and below the silhouette or on the backside have the following text:
WWSD…………the WWSD acronym would stand for the following:……………..What Would Simunic Do?
Have WWSD above the silhouette and then on the back in a vertical line…..
What
Would
Simunic
Do
with the first letter in each word capitalized and bolded.
You can even add a “Za Dom….Spremni somewhere on the sleeve.
ha, ha……what you think????? I see you guys nodding your head in approval and already some of you thinking how many you will order.
Who says no to this idea?
When he retires Joe should become an expert commentator – his specialty can be analysing how much HEART is being displayed by each player/team.
He could have like a “Joe’s HEART Ratings” thing and rate each player for their HEART etc..
the best part of all this……….most, not all, but most of the people expressing a negative opinion has what appear to me to be serb names. I know you can’t judge all of them like that, but it is interesting.
Remember, everyday is a Za Dom Spremni day in the fortified compound.
Sydney/Canberra.. same diff 😛
@Živa
Author’s name says it all.
Joe is a Canberra boy Iggy.
Simunic put the chum in the water and you just knew HAET would come swimming by – haha – awesome.
@ Ziva – that article was written by a fucking Serb journalist who never was a fan of the Croatian national team in the first place, so, how can he stop cheering for Hrvatska and blame Simunic for it?
he’s from Canberra…no?
Joe is a typical Sydney boy – fucking psycho !
Some were poking fun at the term “heart” …(surprise, surprise Ziva) earlier…
But when you talk heart….Šimunić embodies it for the national team.
With this Za Dom Spremni chant…….and his red card tackle on a Serb….IN SERBIA….risking death by the fans lol
The guy is fearless……he’s a beast….puts his passion and emotion out on the field when he’s playing for Hrvatksa. How can you not love that?
There’s absolutely NOTHING wrong w/ what Simunic and the fans did. How in God’s name is ‘For the homeland’ – ‘ready’ (to fight for it) “offensive”???
And for those of you here who think it is “offensive”, it’s time to grow out of your mommy professor college “education”.
How many millions have been killed in the name of Christianity? Do you accuse anybody who speaks the gospel of being an ‘inquisitorwhowantstoburnmillionsofheretics’?

Sorry, “K”ovac with a capital K!
Shit his whole name should be capitalised!
Is it too early to start calling him KING KOVAC too? 🙂
why compare Croatians to Serbs when something happens that doesnt involve them. we’ve never liked to be part of their Yugo affiliation and here we go comparing ourselve’s to them. when they lit the flag on fire, whistled during our anthem and like a bunch of douch bags…put Vukovar in cirilica…it demonstrated their culture and primitive ways. Croatians are free of them so whats the point to revert back to what they did…everytime we do this we compare ourselve’s to a heap of shit…I dont understand the point of doing that?

Thanks.
Didnt Serb fans kill a French kid?
@Iggy
Joe Za dom spremeni’d that fucker.
How many games did Joe miss ?? that was one of the worst challenges i think ive seen lolol
Bravo Doctor!
Za Dom Spremni
@Bobby V
Tim Thomas is a fool!
Quit “pumping his tires.” 🙂
Za Dom Spremni
Nikola Subic Zrinjski: “Za dom, za dom sad u boj!”
Josip ban Jelacic: “Za dom!” “Spremni umrijeti!”
Proof is in the pudding.
Question….
Why does Mario have the possibility of a 3 game suspension for what was an admittedly sloppy, but not malicious, tackle.
And Big Joe got 1, or maybe 2 games for the amazing freight-train clothesline of that serb?
Or did Joe get 3 games too? Is 3 games standard now? When I played growing up and in college it was just 1 game.
i just watched what joe di and say and as i dont see anything wrong with being prideful now our crazy fans will chant this every game that we have at home and we will get fined and hopefully not forfeit games, our fans are crazy already and need not be rilled up any more lol FiFA hates us 🙂
Watching the game again and in the second half we almost came close to scoring another 2 – 3 goals in the first 15 minutes.
LOL @ serbian hieroglyphics, bravo Ante!
this is so crazy, our past history haunts us and always will because of the media out there and the image that we have and our history, if it was someother country that this happen to it would not be a big deal but our history of WWII and in the 90’s will haunt us and give us a bad image everywhere because people arent educated and only listen and believe one side. I think if Dudu would have said it the world media wouldnt of reacted like that because they would of thought that he is trying to be proud and appease the fans and is probably confused even tho those morons dont know what it actually means and represents
@Ernest
I think this is good for the team and will unite them. Give them some of the Kovac fighing spirit that the brothers displayed back in the day. I bet you Kovac is smiling about all of this.
FIFA will not ban us from the World Cup. The Serbs will get to watch us next year in Brazil.
I think we may see the savez give some type of fine to Simunic in a way to appease FIFA/UEFA and hope he is not suspended for the first game or two of the World Cup.
Hieroglyphics, lol
Ante B.
Good Stuff!
Would we have had the same OTT media reaction today if it had been Dudu leading on Za Dom Spremni instead of Big Joe?
Ernest,
NASOJ SRECI NEMA KRAJA CETNICI NAM LIZU JAJA
Sad me mozes prijaviti policiji. 🙂 spremni
Joe will not buckle!!! He did nothing wrong!!!
Serbs all over Croatian websites calling for the exclusion of Croatia at the World Cup due to Joes antics. How quickly they forget throwing bananas at Danny Rose and having a near brawl break out on their home field. Or….buring our flag or…screaming Ubij Ustasu…or machine gun salute after a goal in a u 21 croatia serbia game not too long ago. Ali tesko je njima zabranit ic na svjetsko kad ipak moras se kvalifikovat da imas pravo dobit otkaz. :). Za Dom!
I’ve seen stories like this in Italy (northern), Poland, Germany, Hungary…I’ve watched Paolo Di Canio make “the” salute…all of this not too long ago!
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/mario-balotelli-has-suffered-racist-abuse-870489
I have a question to you Americans…while I was in Texas last February I saw someone with a confederate flag on the back of their car…isnt that controversial?
The absolute worst thing Joe could do is “apologize” to the media; he has nothing to apologize for
LOVE Big Joe. Here’s what everyone is bitching about. I love the ending, see you in Brazil.

.
Croatia is at its best when we play counter-attack soccer like yesterday. We need to learn to bust bunkers.
Did you guys catch the fiasco behind the ZAPAMTITE VUKOVAR banner that had to be taken down?! Apparently a FIFA delegate thought it was offensive and thus it had to be taken down yet cetnici can have a Vukovar banner in hieroglyphics and it’s fine?!
I’m all for what Joe did after the match – but, if you don’t think he did it knowing his playing days are coming to an end and he just launched his future political career in Croatia, then you’re blind.
For you NHL fans – he pulled a Tim Thomas.
BTW – you can watch the replay on ESPN3 and Iceland got away with at least one obvious handball in the box.
Hopefully the boys stay healthy until world cup.
.
I like the way he talks about the team
Mario Mandzukic and Darijo Srna scored to send the hosts to Brazil despite the Bayern Munich striker’s later red card, and the new coach was thrilled with their efforts
Croatia coach Niko Kovac hailed his players’ fighting spirit after they qualified for the World Cup with a 2-0 win over Iceland on Tuesday.
Goals from Mario Mandzukic and Darijo Srna guided Kovac’s men to victory in Zagreb, with the Bayern Munich striker also sent off for a reckless challenge late in the first half.
Despite playing with 10 men, Kovac felt his side dominated at the Stadion Maksimir and could have sealed an even bigger win.
“It’s not easy to play against a team with a man down. You were a bit critical of the way we played over there with a man extra. It’s tricky,” Kovac told reporters.
“Morality is very important, we have to be together. Today we were excellent in attack and defence. We could’ve scored four or five goals.”
Luka Modric, who was criticised for his performance in the first leg, was a standout in the second leg, but Kovac praised his entire team.
“I want Croatia to play like this against everyone,” the coach said.
“Everyone gave their all and before that they were fighting. This is just the beginning of what I want.”
Kovac had no complaints about the red card shown to Mandzukic for his poor studs-up challenge on Johann Gudmundsson on 38 minutes.
Mandzukic apologised for the tackle, and Kovac admitted he could see his players were up for the challenge after seeing the striker sent off.
“It was very fast – a deserved red card. It was a heavy enough challenge,” Kovac said.
“When I saw the passion in my players’ eyes at half-time, I knew we would push to the end. Tonight was a demonstration. Congratulations to my players.”
Iceland coach Lars Lagerback lamented his team’s poor efforts with possession after they struggled to create chances.
“We didn’t use the ball well enough,” he said.
“It is disappointing to loss. We needed to take advantage of the red card. We need to learn from this game.”
Iceland striker Eidur Gudjohnsen, 35, said it was likely to be his last game for the national team.
anddd sorry for all the posts but doesnt media blow everything out of proportion? stupid liberal media
I came across a comment on an article about simunic and it makes sense
“”For the Homeland” = Nazi? The article failed to include the following:
In a statement released Wednesday on Dinamo Zagreb’s website, Simunic rejected “any political context of my statement which was driven solely by my love toward my people and my country, and not by hatred and destruction. The thought that anyone could associate me with any form of hatred or violence terrifies me.”
So we need to decide if free speech an inalienable right or if it’s just OK when we agree with every possible interpretation of what’s said.”
jebes**
@ziva
I doubt Mandza gets more than one game. It was just a bonehead dumb play. Definite red card, but could have also gotten a yellow for it, depending where the ref was standing, depending on the ref, etc.
I doubt fifa gives him more than one game
Its not a matter of right and wrong when it comes to this issue. We all know “Za dom spremni” means. The problem is how the world looks at it. Yes the winner writes the history and thats where the problem is people. Putting it in a complete sports perspective our national team has struggled recently. We all know this, we finally have a chance of some continuity and a suspension and fine is the last thing we needed. I applaud him for doing it but I dont think it was worth the fine we will get. FIFA has been on our asses and just look for a reason to shoot us down, and this just added more to the fire.
dont tell me i dont know whats going on. but hey it is what it is. whats been done cant be undone, just curious to see what repercussions we will face.
Jebez zvezdu i botilju vina, sitite se VUKOVARA I KNINA
Good for Joe 🙂
one of his cousins here has tons of tattoos also…and he’s a huge guy…like 6’7’…looks like a locomotive when he plays soccer…but he a shit player!
@ Doktor
Don’t think you caught my sarcasm co!
😉
@slavonac………..yep. And he has a bunch of tattoos on his arms, which means he’s trouble.
Ziva – hahaha…so now he wants Kovac’s ear? funny!
is he a player…or someone marginally good and thinks his crap doesnt stink?
@slavonac………dude is headcase. he refused to play for the U19s at one point. Made up injuries so he wouldn’t have to show up for national team camps. When Kovac took over the U21s, he sent him home after a game or two.
@Slavonac………you said it perfectly.
The problem for us hrvati and those who think like us is that we are on the losing end of the PR perception battle and on the losing end of the political correctness BS that is all over today’s society.
As soon as we do anything, and I mean anything, that is associated with Za Dom Spremni, the PC police come out and associate it with WW2. And right there we are done. You can’t argue in today’s society about that because we ended up being on the losing side in WW2. And the winners get to write the history books. Now, what is going on in Cro with the current leadership and people in power is even worse. These fuckers look for anything to discredit croatian pride.
As to what Joe said…………fuck, we all agree with it. We all have done it. We’ve all been to weddings and other croatian events where we all sing the “true” songs.
We don’t have a big enough lobby throughout the world to change people’s perception of what Za Dom Spremni really means. And, the next time something like this comes up, we lose the public perception battle. Fuck it, one step at a time. Lets remove the scum from office in Cro. Would love to have political leadership in Cro that would come out and say, “hey, wait a minute. what Joe said is OK and here is why it is OK”. But, sadly we don’t have that.
why? I dont know much about Livaja (although I know his cousins here in Vancouver). is he an idiot…why?
back to the team for a bit……….
I think Mandza will get hit with a two game suspension and upon appeal I think we can get it reduced by one game. But, he will miss out on at least one match.
You guys see the news that Livaja apologized to Kovac. I don’t root against out guys, but he is one player I hope tears his ACL. Fricken goon.
Prle – it doesnt matter if the Serbs behaved as instigators or prehistoric neanderthals…they are a backward society and see history and life the way they choose to, nobody respects them. Simunic said and did what he chose to…we all know what he did was “patriotic”…not racist or facist but thats not how the world sees this. Croatia has been fined in the past and for a Nation that is going forward and moving Western, we have to be conscious of perception. whether we throw a banana on the field or something else we know may be controversial. I dont see an issue with saying “Za Dom…Spremni”…its a phrase we all know and I personally feel it is part of our culture and history in a positive way…as to say Croatians are ready to die for our homeland, most people dont know the history and affiliate that to WW11 which is why Joe responded to those to pickup a history book! it doesnt help the situation that politicians have distanced themselves from Joe and have publicly criticezed him…the bottom line is if he would have just sang “Lijepa Li Si”…I dont think this would have happened and I highly doubt anyone would be screaming racism…
LOL……..Yeah, i would love to hear Jovanovic’s “istorija” lesson.
Also if Milanovic or Jovanovic want to give a history lesson, it’s time to put on a scarf, petokraka na glavi and a stafeta jebem im majku komunisticku
…….imagine if our parents talked like this about this subject.
To me it’s a non-issue. Joe was NOT being selfish. There is nothing wrong with Za dom spremni and it’s not about timing as this is not a space shuttle launch. I can’t believe it’s 2013 and this site has opened up my eyes to a whole new lot of people.
Doktore, imas gajbu od mene. Potpisujem.
SVI SMO MI SIMUNIC JOE
ZAAAAAAA DOOOOOOM
Svaka ti cast Joe.
It took balls and well done. Only wish more Hrvati would stand up like what you did.
This whole campaign people have shitted on you but if it wasn’t for you we would not be in the playoff or going to Brazil. You played solid for us.
Legenda.
And where the fuck was FIFA when the Serbs displayed a banner that read VUKOVAR in Cyrillic script? And where the fuck was FIFA when the Serbs burned a Croatian flag???
Where??? You fucking spineless pieces of shit. Stop criticizing JOE and do something productive and lobby for your fucking PEOPLE.
You people obviously don’t know what the f*ck is going on in Croatia…there’s a goddamn cold war, if you will, between Croats and the foreign government that was installed by London that is being waged.
It can turn hot. Now take what Joe did and put it in that context, and you’ll fucking understand something.
Dumb Yugoslav fucks….
yes now were looking at another fine and he will probably get a suspension in the world cup and miss a game or two
Was Simunic’s want of saying this really worth all this potential bullshit drama that it could cause? To me, definitely not worth it. Even though I do not see it as a big deal the world does.
@doktorprle “Joe took the perfect opportunity to let the world know how WE feel about Croatia and our national identity.”
first of all the world does not give a rats ass how we feel. Fifa however can care and give us and Joe a hefty fine.
“Joe represents us – the children of the Croatian iseljenistvo.”
Please speak for yourself because he doesnt represent me.
This bullshit drama is not something the national team needed at this point. we finally get a little ahead and this has the potential to add more pressure.
Doktore – Svaka ti dala!
http://news.yahoo.com/croats-celebrate-wcup-berth-pro-nazi-chants-144407906–spt.html
@Radnik,
Like Joe said, pick up a history book and you’ll learn what happened in WW2. But make sure the book wasn’t written by Yugoslavs, Serbs and their friends.
Pavelic was FORCED, you got that? to concede large portions of Dalmacija to Italy. He didn’t do it willingly. Istra was never a part of ANY Croatian state in history, so before you go on and spew yet another Yugoslav lie – check your facts. He couldn’t concede Istra, because it wasn’t a part of the Croatian state. EVER.
Dalmacija, after Italy capitulated, was reintegrated with the Croatian state. NDH. And Pavelic did it. NOT Tito.
http://inavukic.com/2012/01/09/croatian-court-peels-off-the-lies-and-hateful-stigma-of-za-dom-spremni-for-home-ready-salutation/
Dr Prle – I dont think anybody is “bothered”…nobody wants a severe fine…thats all! I would hate to see Joe get some huge consequence and made an example, his chants are the same as we all have done after a big victory or when we get together and drink…the fuckers that want to play it as sympathetic nazi bs are trying to make it much bigger than it was. go to any Croatian news site, go to soccernet.com where is says “Croatians celebrate with pro-nazi chants…type “Croatia” into google news…there will always be those that cry foul!
@doktor prle
How by handing large parts of it to the Italians?
@Iggy
Mexicans, lazy bums?
Every Mexican I’ve known worked their assess off.
Regarding the salute “Za dom spremni,”
It’s a non-issue. Anti-Croats (mainly Serbs and Yugoslavs) FABRICATE an issue because they hate Croatia and Croats. Plain and simple.
If you want to exclusively attribute the Ustasa movement with that salute, so be it. But you must remember a few things:
REMINDER: The ustase were CROATS and they fought for the freedom of Croatia. Plain and simple.
Now what Croat, I ask you, what CROAT?? can be bothered by ZA DOM SPREMNI? What CROAT can be bothered by the fact that we HAD a state in WW2???
I tell you, brothers and sister, that if you’re bothered by these things – if they irritate you or make upset, you are NOT a Croat.
You don’t have to “be an ustasa,” as they say…. but you shouldn’t be bothered by this stuff.
If you are, you are not Croatian. Plain and simple.
Ugh. Aleksandar Holiga is having a field day.
Typical responses from outlets like index.yu today.
At the end of the day, who gives a shit about what that and other jugo komunisticka smrad have to say on the matter.
regarding Simunic – although we all understand him, I’m also not sure it was the right time…rightfully, we wont allow cirilica in Vukovar which has become BIG news in the media. Joe’s emotions did to him what it would have to all of us…when we win we sing our songs and chants BUT when Croatia is in the spotlight it may have been a risky move.
Simunic isnt the only one that did this, there are a lot of players and fans that have…go to northern Italy and there you will witness some very controversial chants…some thing in Poland, Germany and so on…for some reason these types of chants are becoming more and more popular.
I dont blame Joe for being emotional and getting the crowd involved but this definitely gives people the opportunity to view him and the rest of Croatians negatively! Politicians have no choice but to denounce his actions…
@Doktore…….me selfish????? pa, come on. I’m the one willing to educate the uneducated.
@Armada……..1991 you ask?????? Nirvana came to the national spotlight.
You discovered that you were a Croat.
What happened in 1991?
And here I am writing this on a thread that glorifies 1991 converts.
Ali, live and let live – I guess.
Ziva,
You’re the selfish one here. And you have been since the beginning.
Joe took the perfect opportunity to let the world know how WE feel about Croatia and our national identity. Joe represents us – the children of the Croatian iseljenistvo.
And here you are knit-picking.
Ziva, give it a rest. You’re not the ONLY “diaspora” Hrvat. There are many of us. And JOZO JOE SIMUNIC is our representative.
ZA DOM SPREMNI
First, let me say that I have no issue with what Simunic said. I am a diaspora hrvat, so by definition I love Hrvatska more than most hrvati who are born in Hrvatska. In the diaspora we all grew up with “za dom, spremni” as a positive ideal of fighting/loving/doing everything for the homeland. So, every day is a “Za Dom, Spremni” day in the fortified basement.
But, Simunic was selfish last night. He thought more about himself than the team with that outburst. He knew that was going to draw controversy the moment he said it. Look at what people are talking about this morning. They are talking about his comments and not our team win. So, because Simunic thought more about himself than the team, we will face possible trouble for this. I’m not sure if FIFA can suspend him for it. It did occur on the pitch, but I’m thinking the delegate was removed from the field at this point and did not see it. Which means it would not be in the match report.
So, while I agree with his comments – and how could you not unless you are a self-hating hrvat – it was a selfish move, a look-at-me move. Interesting that the savez is not backing Simunic on this and is already back peddling away.
I know some of you think I am negative. I’m not. I’m a domoljub. Some of you mistake the “ziva istina” for negativity. So, to recap……..I love what you said Joe. But, you forgot about your teammates last night. You decided to do something for yourself instead of thinking about the team.
By the way, if anyone needs a history lesson on “za dom, spremni” contact me on twitter and I will give you a history lesson. I’ve yet to fully embrace twitter, but I will for the next day or two if anyone needs to be educated on out povijest. (then again, some of you may refer to it a “istorija”)
@majstore
Jovanovic nothing but jugo scum.
Meant marko!

Stupid fucking cunt jovanovic.
can some fucker post links to HRT highlights for each qualy game we played??
THX IN ADVANCE
Yes, I’m a Dalmo and proud of it. Why work when you can sleep, drink loza and generally sit around grumbling about how bad life is and why is it that nobody ever does anything?
Yopu fuckers Dalmatians ????
You know i wouldnt even watch the world cup if we weren’t in it.. i hate watching it when we’re not there, it completely ruins the enjoyment for me altogether..
now i can watch all the games and enjoy it knowing we’re part of the big show so it’s okay
Haha, exactly what I was thinking!!
@Iggy – in that sense we’re just like the Mexicans…
we’re not really that much like mexico
i mean we aren’t a bunch of lazy bums for one thing..
Pranjic’s new hairstyle is very aerodynamic…
If we had any negatives to take from last night, it was possibly Jelavic. OK, he came on late with the match already won and we were a man down, but the guy looked lost out there on the pitch. I can’t see him doing anything much for us in the near future at this rate.
@Denis,
That’s a good analogy with Mexico, I hadn’t realised they are in the same position as us. Agreed that the old Srna showed up last night and he was back to (or near to) his best, and that was a big, big part in our turnaround yesterday evening.
We also stopped being scared of running balls through the centre last night, and we stopped being scared of attacking out of our own half just in case we screw up and allow a fast break to score. I’m giving Kovac the credit for those two positives, too.
What has been the reaction of the Croatian media to Simunic’s ‘za dom spremni”?
@Marko,
We are in the same boat as Mexico.
1)They’ve had a disaster of a qualifying campaign. We’ve had our worst qualifying results ever.
2) They needed a last second goal by the US to make the playoffs. WE needed a last second goal from Italy against Denmark to make the playoffs.
3) We got a new coach, they got a new coach.
4) We face a mickey mouse team in the playoffs, they face a mickey mouse team in playoffs.
5) Croatian and mexican fans are not celebrating the win against mighty New Zealand and Iceland. We are celebrating the return of Croatian and Mexican football.
.
I’m going to get my self a Brazilian to celebrate, then i will sit hairless in fron’t of my computer and watch a replay of the game!
@Marko,
Kovac could have put Lovren and/or vida in defense and it would have been the same result. Also, Kranjcar for Perisic and same result. So as far as formation and starters I dont credit Kovac at all. Kovac did fail with Ilicevic starting game 1 and Eduardo was decent in game 1 at best.
This is where I credit Kovac.
1) He brought the passion back.
2) He brought the hunger back.
3) He brought Pranjic back
4) Simple fix, turn rainbow balls into low bending crosses away from the keeper.
5) He must have said something to Srna because today we’ve turned back the clock and seen the Srna of 2008.
Kovac is learning on the job and will make mistakes in formation and which players to start. But his heart and vision for the game is priceless.
My non-Croatian friends don’t understand why I was so happy last night after we beat Iceland. They point out that it was Iceland after all and the match was in ZG so what’s the big deal? The big deal is that until last night I genuinely think we couldn’t have beaten an out of form Andorra squad as our confidence had been completely blown.
I’m convinced we’ve turned the corner after last night’s performance. Yes, we should have won 5-0 if we had been any good at finishing off the good work from Perisic, Modric and Kovacic and the 20 or so chances we created. But this is the first match for a long, long time where every single player performed at or (for Big Joe and others) above his ability.
Brazil here we come!
Imagine we wouldn’t be qualified: no important games for our national team till september 2014. It would have been depressing.
Niko Kovac did a hell of a job.
I have heard some of u bastardich’s saying we are overreacting simply for saying we will now WIN the world cup..
bloody lunacy, how is it overreacting ?
EVERYBODY FUCKING KNOWS that if you play WITH HEART it is not possible to lose..
therefore if we play each match WITH HEART it logically follows that we then MUST win the world cup !
How is it overreacting? You don’t need to be a logician to understand how simple it is !
If we were a quality side, this match would have ended 5-0. We still struggle putting the ball into the back of the net. However, I like what Kovac has brought to the team so far. Yes, he is still learning on the job, but the players are ready to die for him.
This Iceland team would struggle against an MLS team. New Zealand would give them a fight. I have been saying this after game 1. Merci Platini for the friendly draw.
The future looks bright with the Kovac brothers. Like Samuel L. Jackson said in Pulp Fiction “Lets not start sucking each others dicks quite yet.” This was a great performance against an HNL side.
At the same time, a win like this, will unite the team and bring confidence. They ran like a well oiled Mercedes Benz. Lets hope this continues.
Now its all about match ups. Fast teams with a quick physical striker will tear us apart like Lukaku and Walcott did for England. We have to avoid the Portugal’s, Belgiums, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and most african sides. Bring on Spain, we can take them, again.
Its all about match ups for this team. Against Spain, we can win 1-0. Against Belgium, we can lose 3-0.
Lastly, congrats to the fans that showed up to Maksimir. They were patient with the team before the first goal and after the red card. It wasn’t a packed house, but the 12th man was present.
WE FUCKING DID IT !!!!!!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!!!
Don’t really believe in the conspiracy stuff, but, I’m sure that the referee who gave that red card to the Ukraine at the beginning of the second half (vs France) will be getting a Christmas card will a little something in it from Platini.
Ukraine coach should have pulled anyone with a yellow.
When Olic got his early in our game, everyone I was watching with said the same thing – take him out….now!
Shame on you Strucnjak Stimac, shame on you.
@Toronto Croatia
I get what you’re saying about Kovacic, but I still take him over Eduardo in that position.
Kovacic is also out of form as well. He’s finally getting some playing time at Inter, and this has been a different role for him than in that DM role he played last year.
As he gets back into full fitness over the next 6 months with games at Inter and Croatia friendlies, he should be a lot better. Otherwise, we’ll have to try some different combinations during our friendlies. I have confidence that Niko Kovac will actually use these friendlies to test these combinations, instead of flying to Korea with a B squad just to make appearances.
@ Allen
Good meeting up with you too! Thanks for posting the video.
@ Denis
Atmosphere in Veslo was great. In the front it’s more like a bar, people standing and cheering. In the back, they had tables where people eat and watched the match.
I’ll say in here what I said about Kovacic in the other post (because most people probably wont read it now that this post is up)
I’m not sure if you need to re-watch the first half but not only was Kovacic not doing anything……he was actually getting in the WAY of passes.
He made one or two good runs in the second half. One of which resulted in the Srna goal …which now makes him look like a hero.
Am I glad he did it? Yes
But it doesn’t change the fact that he was still unimpressive in the first half.
Kovacic is still young, and maybe felt he was playing his role…. then got the urge to spring free and take matters into his own hands in the second half? I don’t know.
I’m glad he did it….if he opens up more, and with experience under his belt, maybe he can become something big. I sure hope that he will be.
Allen well done sir!
Croatia vs. Antwerp, you’re alive! Thanks for the video, agree with analysis.
How was the atmosphere @ Veslo?
Any sign of Armada? Dude has been talkin a lot of smack hahahaha.
Well done boys!
LOL Faux Cro, damn you are becoming my favorite poster.
Shout out to Croatia vs. Antwerp, great guy and had the chance to chat with him. Two years ago, I met JM and he was super cool. Now Croatia vs. Antwerp was great as well. So many good people on the site, which is why I’ll always love it even if I sound angry at times (Outraged!!).
You know I’m feeling a bit tipsy when I gave Ziva a shout out haha. As long as we aren’t talking about MMA, I generally do like Ziva. Smart dude even if he’s too critical.
I know Iceland is a weak team, but this is how we should have played during the whole qualifying campaign.
I don’t see much difference between Scotland and Iceland. Both are physical hacks.
Allen should change his moniker
Allen the Slightly Inebriated
or
Allen the Overjoyed
*these
there guys trying to get Simunic banned for the world cup hahaha

Who thinks kovacic should be a regular starter for the repka?? The next boban? Any thoughts on the kid?
Great game, for us anyway!
Who’s Sue Kerr? 😉
8 out of 10 tournaments since independence. Not too shabby.
I hope we draw Belgium this World Cup.
