As most of you on CSR are now creating your own individual ‘mock squads’ for the Romania friendly, it looks like Dario Cvitanich will remain absent from everyone’s list- as well as all future Croatian squads all together. INDEX.hr has confirmed that FIFA has banned Argentina-born and current Ajax striker, Dario Cvitanich, from playing for the Croatian national side.
FIFA has said that Cvitanich’s grandparents, who are the only direct link to Croatia for Dario, were not in fact born in Croatia- rather Argentina. The HNS will appeal this decision in the next few weeks.
So obviously Bilić and company were ready to cap Dario for the game against Romania. None of this would have occurred if this wasn’t the case.
This is how I believe the business portion of the deal has to happen. 1) The HNS tells FIFA that they would like to add an uncapped player to the team. 2) FIFA researches the player and confirms that they have the correct paperwork and/or family line to play for that nation (remember that Dario has a Croatian passport) 3) FIFA then finally makes their decision based on the legitimacy of the player’s information etc. In this case, Dario Cvitanich’s information was not legitimate as FIFA somehow ‘Sherlock Holmes’d’ this situation and found out his grandparents were born in Argentina.
BRAVO FIFA, BRAVO!!!! ON A JOB WELL DONE!!!
And shockingly enough, Maradona and his sneaky Argentine compatriots are now saying that they would welcome Cvitanich with open arms to play for Argentina. Deja Vu all over again.
Cvitanich replied that he wants to play for Croatia and only Croatia. Why? Two words: DANIEL BILOŠ!
I firmly believe that Cvitanich wants to play international football. But we all know that Argentina would cap him once and then dump the poor guy just so he couldn’t play again for anyone else. Croatia would be receiving a ‘sloppy-seconds’ player that doesn’t speak the language, doesn’t know the culture and hilariously enough, as my good friend Denis Svirčić scoffed at, ‘probably couldn’t point out Croatia on a map.’
HERE YOU GO DARIO. THOUGHT THIS MIGHT HELP OUT.
I don’t want ‘sloppy-seconds’- whether he learns the anthem, plays with 110% or even cries after games. What a slap in the face that would be to Mate Bilić, Mandžukić, Rukavina and Kalinić. Let me share something with you readers that I wrote as a comment concerning the Dario Cvitanich situation and international football all together:
It’s not whether Bilić will make the right decision or if Dario can produce for us. That’s not what I’m worried about.
International football is the purest form of sport in the world today. You play for your country and once you step onto that field, you can play for no one else. You play for pride of self and pride of country where money and transfers mean absolutely nothing. You can see a great player play from age 17-35. Watch the same player for almost 2 decades pour his blood, sweat and tears into the same cause you are rooting for.
We all know that the Kovać’s, Šimunić’s and Rakitić’s have no problem for arguement. They were raised Croatian by full Croatian parents, speak it fluently and visit throughout the year.
I want to know where the cut off will be and I think that cutoff is Eduardo. Yes, he was born and raised in Brazil, but he moved to Croatia at age 15; still very young, embraced the culture, learned the language, married a Croatian, has a Croatian kid and loves Croatia. Sure he didn’t live in Croatia during the war but he’s embraced everything he could in the time he’s been there. I think that’s the cut off.
Dario does not speak the language, had never stepped foot in Croatia and if he had to choose to play between Argentina and Croatia, he would choose Argentina. We all know that. We’re getting sloppy seconds if anything if Dario plays for us. It’s not cheating but every Croatian should know that we’re not getting the real deal. He will never cry like Srna did after that Turkey game. Never. End of story.
Like I said earlier in the Cvitanich post, international football is sports at its purest form. I don’t even support international teams having foreign coaches. What’s the point. It shouldn’t have anything to do with money. That’s what the club level is for. I want our team to be Croatian, our coach, our assistants- even our water boys. And I give Croatia much praise for sticking to that since their inception in 1994.
England hiring an Italian, Ireland hiring an Italian, Serbia with a Spaniard in 2007, Russia with Hiddnik (who has coached on 3 continents) the list goes on and on. Keep it purely international. That’s what I would like to see and hopefully FIFA makes that happen one day- that’s my dream.
I am Disgusted at your Theories, saying that a person who does not no how to speak the language & point out Croatia on a Map is not Croatian & should not play for Croatia..Well let me tell u 1 thing idiot's , I am from AUSTRALIA & was born here & have a Croatian background & yes i do speak it fluently & am so proud of my background that i would opt to play for Croatia given the chance, but anywayz i Know many other Croatian Australians who cant speak Croatian & probly dont no where Croatia is on a map, but they are still very proud of there background & represent Croatia at any chance & feel Croatian 100 %. U try to tell them that they are not Croatian & i guarantee u will cop a mouth full of fist..The point i am sending is that if u have Croatian Blood u are Croatian, & on the fact how do u know what Cvitanovic thinks of Croatia, do u know him personally ?, I have no doubt that he is proud of his Croatian Ancestry & would love to play for the Country of his Ancestry, I hope to see Dario in a Croatian Shirt Reallll Soon..
And another thing i want to point out is u claim a player should have been born in the country & most of his ancestry should be tied with the country, Well what about France ? with all the African Greatz, Im sure they all had French Grand Parents..& what about Turkey ? Kazim Richardz , Im sure hes 100 % Turkish, & what about Poland , im sure Guerrera is 100 % Polish,& Tim Cahill who Was Born in Samoa & actually ditched his Country because they had no future & opted to play for Australia & got a GREEN LIGHT from FIFA, FIFA U SUCKKKKKKKKK, how can u denie a Player who obviously has Croatian Ancestry ,which none of the other players above have with the nations they are playing for, FIFA is against Croatia becoming a SUPER NATION, they no that with DARIO in our Team we would be a Lethal Force, so this is there little way of preventing that, once again FIFA U SUCKKKKKKK, Sep Blatter u MORON..
Vinko Mutapic
Welcome! Great debut for the Croat! Hopefully, we will get to see your name on a regular basis.
A few things on your post:
“My parents are both Croatian full blood and I was born in New York it definately doesn’t make me any less Croatian. “
well, yes, it makes you a little less of a Croatian. Just like myself. Just like all the rest of us “Croats born in foreign countries.” I was born and raised in California to Croatian born parents. They thought me Croatian traditions, history, culture, religion, cuisine, etc etc. However, it’s not the same as being born and living in Croatia you’re entire life. Once again, just my opinion. You and I definitely lose a few points. Once again, I’m not the “Croatia Jugdge. I’m not the law, or for Darijo the “zakon”.
“As for him not speaking the language tell that to many of us that live elsewhere and never learn it.”
Dario’s grandparents were born in argentina. End of story. He has less than 25% of Croatian in him. Like I tell everyone else on this website, “when Dario was a kid, did he have Maradona posters on his wall or Davor Suker posters?” We all know the answer.
“if he fails to then I say trash him “
The Croatian team is an elite club, only open to Croatians. Win or lose, we don’t “trash” anyone.
I agree with you on France. Also, most Frenchmen have the same stance.
Cvitanich is done, case closed like Ante said. Lets move on. Hope to see you on here again. Feel free to chime in.
Vinko,
First of all, welcome aboard and we hope you stick around for the long run. Thank you for your detailed opinion on the Cvitanich matter. I think everyone is already burned out on the topic as there is nothing left to say.
Bottomline: FIFA said no to him. But like I’ve said before. Eduardo is the cutoff and Cvitanich would not be welcomed by me to play for Croatia.
Hope to hear from you soon.
First off Dario Cvitanich is Croatian but only half. His last name Cvitanic is just changed to Cvitanich because of pronounciation. My father did a similar thing here in New York on business cards because he didn’t want to hee pick at the end of Mustapic so for a bit he ha Mustapich written on business cards. I don’t blame him I found it annoying too lol. Back to Cvitanic his father is Croatia because his grandparents were giving him Croatia blood regardless of where he was bon. My parents are both Croatian full blood and I was born in New York it definately doesn’t make me any less Croatian. As for him not speaking the language tell that to many of us that live elsewhere and never learn it. I know how to speak, read and write it fluently Hvala Bogu Thank God! But not everyone is blessed with parents that have time to teach them or that are able to send them to Croatian School to learn the language better. I also go to Split every summer and I even have 2 houses one in Split another near Imotski. I’m proud of Croatia and only sometimes sad that I have to deal with idiots in the summer time that don’t recognize me for the full Croatian I am. My heart wants to be but in reality I can’t because I was not born in our beautiful homeland so some people will not give me recognition. No matter how much I cried and how many days I was saddened by that ridiculous Turkey game. In the word of my good friend Evan I will say this about it “Croatia won but then they cheated and we lost” lol the quote of 2008 by far. I feel for Cvitanic because he even met with Bilic and everyone and probably would go to Croatia and feel more comfortable about it by knowing the language. That’s why i’m thankful I know the language becasue if I didn’t I’d feel like a few of my friends that I meet up with over in split that don’t know too much and feel left out of everything. So to conclude Cvitanic is Croatian, lest we forget losa bila cetrst peta rasula nas priko svijeta aj sad nova loza raste vratili se kuci laste. Lyrics from Thompson Song can’t remeber which one right now it’s really early right now it’s like 6. I welcome Cvitanicand all Croatians born in other countries to join us. It doesn’t matter how much of a link you have as long as it’s something and you most importantly show heart. Give him the chance to show heart and if he fails to then I say trash him until he realizes why or maybe just for good. Just look at Eduardo born and raised in Brazil moved to Zagreb aged 15. Learned the language, married a croatian girl had a daughter with her that is half brazilian and half croatian like her daddy casue he has citizenship and all. What I love about Eduardo and everyone will agree is that two of three of his quotes so far have hit home 1. “I watched Euro on T.V from Brazil and it was so hard to watch because I wanted to be out there because I knew we woould go farther when we lost to Turkey I cried with them.” 2. This was after the 4-1 loss to england “The game got to the point where I wanted to run out of the stands put a jersey on and go play and do something about it” 3. “I can’t wait to play for Arsenal again but it is playing for Croatia again that I am anticapating more than anything else.” With that said give Cvitanic a chance I make a good case and point. You do as well and I acknowledge it I said he should play so we can see if he has any heart if not out he goes. By the way sorry to ruin your FIFA dream but jut take a look at France they have a whole bunch of muslims and Africans on there team. It just isnn’t France when I see there line up or watch them I just laugh there is no heart just individuals trying to get noticed. England as well because there league has so many Africans you tend to see a few in there as well just with English last names because people migrated. It’s ridiculous. One day because of the ever growing chinese population you’ll see Russia with chinese guys fllying after the ball lol. It just isn’t the same. It takes the flair outta it all.
ciganski Bosanac
“Happy New Year”. I’m pretty sure that I’ve included you, if not I apologize. Next time I’m in Sarajevo lunch is on me.(preferably cevape i kajmak)

I agree with you on Capello
Oliver
Ante and I will set up a Croatian Handball post with in the next few days. Here all you handball fans can comment about the world cup.
I just posted “Croatians down under” it will look something like this.
Send us some pictures if you manage to attend, and we will post them on the site.
“i think everything is said on this topic.”
Well said.
Croadian
Excellent quote on Dario.
Also, “I’d rather deal with the right leg of Eduardo and whoever else than this guy.” I agree 100%
Thanks for the kind words. Hopefully, you’ll chime in more often.
Agent Argentina
Apology Accepted, however not needed. Hopefully, we will get to see your name more often on the site.
EZC
Yes, you are very similar to Dario. However, you are much much much closer to Croatia than Dario will ever be.
“I am well aware of the facts (he wants to further his career, better chance with Croatia…etc), but let him choose for himself what he is and let the NT choose their players by any criteria that they want.”
Dario is Argentino, however, “he wants to further his career, better chance with Croatia.” No hard feelings Dario. Good luck!
Oliver
i thought “i think everything is said on this topic.” haha
Every time I comment on this topic, I say “this is the last time”, however, I know this won’t be the last time. With Dario scoring and the HNS filing an appeal, the plot thickens.
“thats what cvitanich definately doesnt have. not only because he doesnt speak the language or didnt visited croatia once, this can be learned or done – he lacks passion, dedication, desire, the 110% identification and, uhmm, love.”
I can’t top that. Well said.
Ivica
“If you aren’t raised to love something like your ethnic identity from birth, it is hard to claim and feel a truly genuine passion for it later on in life.”
I see this every time I step foot in Croatia. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation Croatians from Australia, New Zealand, England, Canada and the states speaking English while on vacation in Croatia. The sad part is, they aren’t even willing to put up an effort. Even sadder is the fact that they truly believe they are Croatian because they visit Croatia only during summer.
Advice to those Croatians born abroad(This includes myself):
You can not consider yourself a true Croatian without knowing the language. What’s holding you back?
Miso Kovac
I don’t believe this is Miso writing. Miso would never say something like this. “I dont care if Ronaldo plays for croatia. Its all about winning.”
ITS NOT ALL ABOUT WINNING
Ivica
“Do we now look desperate in the eyes of the world for continuing to pursue this guy even though FIFA says he can’t play for us?”
Yes, very desperate. The HNS, just like much of Croatia is sadly run by mafia. It’s all about the $$$. Just like Miso Kovac said on this site “WIN……and that’s what they should do at all costs.”
I never thought our national team would sink so low.
Sverc
“How about other countries like France or England which have half of Africa playing for them. “
I’ve spoken to (white) French people who said Zidane is not French. Zidane in my book was one of the best 15 players ever. The French are jealous of Croatia, jealous because we have a 100% Croatian team and an adopted son 🙂
Vlad
“Aztec” lol
he looks more like a aztec to me
He has Croatian blood in him, and he does look Croatian more then Eduardo.
How about other countries like France or England which have half of Africa playing for them. This guy has at least some Croatian blood in him.
If we can get him on the team, I say we fight to get him on our team.
Very good point Ivica. I haven’t even thought about that so I’m glad you brought it up.
Yes, I would say we would look desperate if we kept pursuing Dario. But personally, I have a pretty good feeling that Dudu will be back at full match fitness and better than ever by the England rematch and Dario will not be pursued when our strikers ‘go off!’
NEW THOUGHT ON THE SUBJECT:
FIFA says Dario Cvitanich can’t play for us.
Do we now look desperate in the eyes of the world for continuing to pursue this guy even though FIFA says he can’t play for us?
I wouldnt pick Vidosic because he’s hopeless.
Pointless having that arguement. The fact Cvitanich’s grandparent is not completely croatian i guess means that we have a fight on our hands to get him called up. If Cvitanich has a based in Croatia for 2 years then we can call him up eventually, but at present until we hear otherwise and FIFA hand us permission Cvitanich will have to stay in Ajax and keep his form up and we’ll have to look at other options. Just cos Vidosic qualifies for Croatia doesn’t mean we call up everyone. Patrice Kwedi qualifies for Croatia, but doesn’t mean we have to select him over Srna. Must be some grounds for a guy getting called up. As mentioned before i’ve moved on from Cvitanich now and am intrigued by Srdjan Lakic. 9 goals in 15 games is some nice looking figures.
Joze why wouldn’t you want Vidosic playing for Cro? He was born in Croatia?
Ante I also think that if Cvita played that game against turkey he would have been crying probably next to Srna, its just opinions, I just think Cvita would wear the checkers proudly unlike Bilos
One word: WIN……and that’s what they should do at all costs. TO better the country they need to win. I dont care if Ronaldo plays for croatia. Its all about winning.
Considering the photo in the story it would be pretty embarassing if he ended up ditching Croatia.
Having done a bit of research it seems to me the ball is in Cvitanich’s court. He can actually make himself qualify. Maybe not straight away but over time i don’t think there is any question that Cvitanich can qualify. All he has to do is embrace the Croatian culture which is what you guys want .. Its all up to Dario to show how much he really wants to play for Croatia. maybe he should find out about his great grandparent who i think is 100% croatian and emigrated, which make his grandparent half croatian. At the end of the day apparently if we called Etto up for Croatia he is eligible and can qualify as has lived in Croatia for 2 years plus. All Cvitanich has to do is make use of his citizenship which i believe he got in September. If Dario is not serious about this he would never have taken it up. how i understand it is still possible Cvitanich can play in the future.
I’m not convinced by this story as its barely been reported anywhere which to me suggests its not official. Also now Cvitanich has Croatian citizenship means that HNS can launch an appeal on that. I don’t know the ins and outs of the situation – but how did Branko Strupar get to play for Belgium or Tommasic for Bulgaria. Both of them are total Croats and were born and raised in Croatia. I know a lot of people on here don’t want Cvitanich for various reasons, but thats beside the point now as HNS does. Whats the whole lowdown on these things regards how players get granted permission. If Croatian citizenship is all thats needed then i’m afraid that’s probably enough – or do u have to hold a passport for a period of time which means he will be eligible in time. Cvitanich clearly has a connection with a great grandparent and grandparent. It seems to me Cvitanich is just banned from the Romania game cos FIFA are still checking up, but he’ll probably get his clearance in the end. Just going on facts thats all. Sorry if it irritates people.
Vidosic can play for Croatia but I wouldnt want him to
Oliver, I completely agree (and yes I watched 08! I have a lot of English friends in NA 😉 . Chances are Cvitanich will never consider himself a Croatian. But that also doesn't mean that he rejects the Croatian culture, he simply has never been exposed to it. Even the most nationalist Croatians were not born with the language/culture/traditions…etc they were exposed to it & taught it. Most learn it young, Eduardo learned it at 15, I still think Cvitanich should be given a chance at 24(?).
Realistically he'll never care. I think I'm more sympathetic to him because living in NA I see how easily European heritage can be lost over generations.
On a side note, does anyone know if Dario Vidosic is still able to play for Croatia?
I think people are born with the passion. Like someone else said, when I get off the plane in Split I feel like I’m home even though I’ve spent more of my life in Sydney.
Language isnt the biggest barrier, someone said they cant speak it perfectly but thats life when growing up in another country…just like Dario you may not know the language perfectly but I’m sure your exposed to it regularly unlike Dario who has probably never heard the language in his life.
A bit off topic but tennis is starting up and Cilic won the Chennai Open. I was at the Djokovic vs Ancic match last night…unfortunately Mario couldnt win but he’s getting back into form.
“…visiting croatia is more than just hollidays, sun, beaches and the beautiful girls – its homecomming, simple as that.”
Well said Oliver. I feel like this every time i step off that plane and arrive in my selo.
Cvitanich doesn’t feel any of this. I doubt he even knows where in Croatia his roots lie. If you aren’t raised to love something like your ethnic identity from birth, it is hard to claim and feel a truly genuine passion for it later on in life. It’s almost an irreversible process. If one generation isn’t taught to nurse and love their heritage, they will not teach the following generations, and sadly (and most likely) this is the case in Dario’s lineage.
i still believe he is Croatian his name the pasport but mabye maradonna is behind this? bribing fifa if you know what i mean but anyways what about Anas Sharbini isnt he going to get called uP?
EZC, im living in germany since about 13 years now. compared to NA its only a stones throw from here (about 1100km to split). however i only can manage to visit my family and friends once or max. twice a year.
i think the discussion about cvitanich points it out right: if you feel croatian (however this can be explained plus every one has his/her own mind on that) you are. no matter how deep or flat your roots or links are to the country. for me its very important to know where i belong and where my home is at, visiting croatia is more than just hollidays, sun, beaches and the beautiful girls – its homecomming, simple as that.
thats what cvitanich definately doesnt have. not only because he doesnt speak the language or didnt visited croatia once, this can be learned or done – he lacks passion, dedication, desire, the 110% identification and, uhmm, love.
but, ECZ, you didnt cheer for croatia in 08? 😉
Well I'm very similar to Dario in many ways:
-I don't speak Croatian (it was my first language, no longer fluent but working on it)
-I have Croatian citizenship, but born in North America
-I have only been there once when I was one years old
So am I not Croatian either? My mother was born in NA, my father in Bosnia. Half my family in NA can't speak the language well. Yet we consider ourselves Croatian and cheered for them in '98, '02, & '06.
I think it's up to a person to decide if they're Croatian as the criteria can vary (Is there a language requirement? What about a mute born in Zagreb?…) I think the problem here is that Dario (in his own mind) does not consider himself to be Croatian, but I cannot read his mind. I am well aware of the facts (he wants to further his career, better chance with Croatia…etc), but let him choose for himself what he is and let the NT choose their players by any criteria that they want. I have full confidence in the NT.
No apology necessary. I would just like you to become more witty in your trash talk. I think you got it in you somewhere.
Apology accepted.
I’m back again, this time to apologize for my comments towards both of my good friends. I will also like to add that Bilos made something of himself at Boca(something quite easy) but Cvita made something of himself at Banfield (quite hard) once again I’m sorry
Ante,
Unfortunately, I don’t have any more than that. It was printed in this morning’s Daily Mail. I’ll let you know if any other papers pick it up, but I don’t think many will. It was, technically, a training match which isn’t really news-worthy. Also some could argue that the team were afraid to tackle him too severely. But I think there are 3 reasons to be optimistic:
(1) Such is the highly physical nature of the PL game that netting a hat-trick past a senior Arsenal team in training, in my opinion, trumps netting a hat-trick past a lower league team (Den Haag, for example).
(2) Putting three past Alumnia is no small feat.
(3) It shows that has Eduardo lost none of his goal-scoring abilities.
Eduardo just needs more competitive matches under his belt and unfortunately reserve matches are too few and far between. I think once he’s able to put in a full 90 minutes in one or two reserve matches, Wenger might consider playing him in an FA cup match and from there, league matches. I don’t think he should be rushed.
Just would like to start off by saying that you guys are doing great work with the site. Its definitely hard to find Croatian news in English especially since my Hrvatski is rough at best.
“It would be like a dream to play in the qualifiers and the World Cup. With Argentina that was almost impossible. I look at it as if I am going to play for another team, but the emotion will remain the same. I will die as a fan of my country.”
That was a quote from Dario in the summer and after reading it, it just seems to me that he’s in it for glory and nothing else. I’d rather deal with the right leg of Eduardo and whoever else than this guy.
ADRIEN,
That first link you sent was more of a recap and interview about Eduardo and what he’s been through. He still hasn’t played competitively since Pompey Reserves.
And if he did in fact play against the Arsenal senior squad and neeted a hat trick…they didn’t talk about it much. Do you have anymore info on this story?
Adrien,
Thanks for that link. That story will be up as soon as this one starts to cool off.
Oliver,
I’m sure we can fit in some handball. It’s just kind of a tough call for me and Denis since we’re a young site, what kind of content you guys would enjoy reading. I just don’t want it to get too messy where we have to report about 5-6 sports. The site will become scewed and unfocused..I mean look at how many people have already participated already today.
All of you please chime in on regards to reporting on non-football related material. Any input would be appreciated.
As for you Bosanac,
We just thought u had your fun and took off, but since you’re back on- Happy New Year!!! Glad to see you back…
Talk to you guys soon.
Eduardo is facing agaisnt cadiff city on jan 21 i think im watching that =D
thanks for the links, adrien.
i think everything is said on this topic. will you guys also be reporting about the handball wc? im really looking forward to this event and also will be down in split visiting my family and friends and enjoying the nice weather (compared to germany) 😉
cheerio,
oliver
Wow! This topic has surely got everyone crawling out of the wordwork to say their bit.
It seems that everyone more or less agrees that in order to play for the national team, the player must have a passion and a love for the country he represents. It’s my belief that if Cvitanich does not have this passion, there’s no way he would be able to break into the first team, no matter how many hat-tricks he scores against eredivisie teams. The Croatian NT is more than just the sum of its parts and the skill of its individual players. It’s the fact that they play as a TEAM who have a strong passion for the game and what it represents. Any outsider would be quickly filtered out.
Even with that aside, I still think that he’d have trouble breaking into the first team. With Olic and Petric forming a formidable partnership and Eduardo itching to come back, competition is fierce.
On that subject, I don’t think we’ll have to wait much longer:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/arsenal/4213298/Eduardo-nears-Arsenal-comeback.html
i did not bother reading all of the comments but agree with oliver and whoever else said that international football is football in its purest and played with the most heart. this purity and heart would be lost if we start capping guys like cvitanich, u think capello actually wants england to win because he supports her with his heart, no because he is being payed and wants to continue to be payed.
first of OH YA BOSANAC DOESNT YOUR TEAM HAVE A CROATIA COACH AND WITHOUT HIM YOU WOULD BE WHERE YOU ARE.and thats bull dario should be able to play for us i think fifa is hiding something, anyways are team did get stronger by making Srna are Kapetan =) and getting juric
ohh ya!!! and i never got a happy new year from you!!!! (i read ur list from a former post!)

Today’s HUGE comment of the day..
“I dont want to see Cvitanovich near a croatian jersey he is not croatian and dosn’t deserve to play for us. Wearing the checkered jersey is a privilege. He has no connetion to croatia and im happy fifa has banned him from playing for us. It makes me sick to seee people like him playing for a country they have no connection to. I’d starve and give up everything to play for my country croatia…its not about the money when you step on that field, its about the love for the country and the game.”

Get a name buddy
he cant even speak croatian, he has never been there in his life, he was born in argentina, parents are not croatian, grandparents are skeptical, he would rather play for argentina…FUCK HIM…NETREBAMO OVE CIGANI
He does have a connection, just look at his, name, hes a good player and would play with passion for croatia since he wants to play, too bad he isn’t

I’m disappointed, would of at least like to have seen what he can do. Everyone knows how I feel about our current striker situation, but what’s done is done.
I really feel that if Eduardo does not come back in full form soon, we will be on the outside looking in for World Cup 2010.
Hope I’m wrong, though.
The player i am actually watching with interest is Srdjan Lakic. He’s had a stonking season thus far with Kaiserslautern and i expect they will get promoted and he play in the Bundesliga next season in the first team. I am interested to see how he does. If he does well then there we’ll have another striker. It’ll also be time for Kalinic and Mandzukic to test themselves next season abroad.
Hmmm what about the fact he has Croatian citizenship.. does that make him eligible. I guess then HNS will appeal on that. I take it his great grandfather is possibly the Croatian then. Well Budan is a good player especially when he was at Atalanta and i personally have always been a fan of Sasa Bjelanovic if only he left that defensive minded italian league – he could have been an international. However not now am afraid. Same with Budan too. I have never seen a player with such bad fitness as when he had in the Euro against Austria. He didn’t even look agile. No surprise he left the camp for rehabilitation. We need Eduardo and Petric has given me some reasons to be cheerful. I’ve given up on Cvitanich. It seems if his grandparent wasn’t entirely Croatian then we are clutching at straws a little.
Whatever, it’s done. I really never wanted Dario Cvitanich as a member of our NT from the beginning. He is an Argentine, plain and simple, end of story.
Someone is gonna grasp this opportunity from within our system. It’s a great opportunity and pretty much an open race to guys gunning for that striker spot. This is quite possibly one of the most important friendlies we have had in some time. So many decisions to be made before qualifiers begin again. Are there any other friendlies for us after this, but before we resume qualifiers?
Personally, I haven’t ruled out one guy in particular: Igor Budan. I still think he has something to offer the NT, but he has just had so many injuries and obstacles in his way for a while now.
If you think Cvitanich is a rubbish player you’re talking rubbish mate. He didn’t get enough playing time at the start, then had an injury and is now playing and showing what he can do. He’s a quality player and at 24 has time on his side. He’ll make it, don’t worry about that. Bilos moved to St Ettienne – bog standard French team. Cvitanich moved for £6m to Ajax – big difference. First how did the guy end up with that name – maybe Cvitanich might like to know that as well relatives and secondly just cos FIFA has banned him doesn’t mean you trash the player. Sorry but our strikeforce has no depth. We better hope some striker appears out of no where from HNL1 cos at the moment i think we are going to fail to achieve what we should achieve just cos we don’t have a quality third and fourth choice striker. That’s just sad news when a team is missing a peice in its jigsaw. The whole attack depends on Petric and Olic at the moment – after that we are praying for a fully fit Eduardo which i must say will solve everything. Bilic really isn’t first team material, whilst Klasnic, Budan, Bjelanovic are all past there best now. Calling the next Croatian goalscoring wizkid wherever you are. please step forward.. Be great if Daniel Popovic was still around.
Can someone explain to me how someone can have a name like Dario Cvitanich and have no Croatian in him???? Help.. i don’t understand.
Interested to see if HNS can turn this around, but i will still support Cvitanich and follow his form despite this. The guy should believe in himself if FIFA reject him and try his heart out to play for Argentina. Everyones moaning of Cvitanich, yet i believe like Eduardo he is wanting to play for us whilst a call up for Argentina is definitely 100% realistic. Good luck Dario.
I completely agree Oliver.
As for you Agent Argentina- nice to see you’ve come back from the dead and just in time to try (keyword: try) and heckle Denis and I.
First of all, what does not knowing where Croatia is have to do with being from LA? I know where you tried to go with that one but you missed.
As for Eduardo, he’s Croatian. End of story. Would it be easier for you to take that in if he had lighter skin like a Podolski or Klose? They’re Polish you know.
And I have many jerseys, Eduardo is one of them. He carried Croatia through qualifying and probably would have made a huge difference at Euro 08. Fortunes turned and we will never know. I like his style. Get over it.
As for Cvitanich, you can have him! I don’t care. Bilos take 2. Why are you trying to guilt me into trying to say that I want him? Too early to say anything about him. He scored a hat trick against Den Haag. Big deal. A month ago he was talking about returning to Argentina.

“id rather like to see my country beeing smashed on the pith but with heads up high and the best performance they could do than winning games with team mates who have no roots, no feelings and no passion for the country.”
I said something similar a few weeks back. I’m glad we are on the same page.
Agent Argentina
Is back, and boy did he have a mouthful to say….
“”Couldn’t point out Croatia in a map” coming from a guy that keeps posting “reporting from lakerville””
some people just can’t take a joke. Won’t analyze this further cause its a waste of my time.
“Please, Dario will keep showing his class at Ajax and you guys will miss out.”
DARIO IS NOT CROATIAN! ONLY CROATIAN PLAYERS PLAY FOR CROATIA.
Before you reply with Eduardo…..
As mentioned before, he is an “adopted son.” Our “adopted son” learned Croatian, learned Croatian women, and now has a Croatian kid.
The End.
I might need an extra dose of sleeping pills tonight. I might not be able to sleep thinking that we “will miss out.”
well, to me its not shockingly or whatever. the quote on the bottom of the posts points it out all right: hes not croatian by heart – dedication, desire, love… those are the keywords if you ask someone playing for his country. not the chance to be in the starting eleven or for fame.
id rather like to see my country beeing smashed on the pith but with heads up high and the best performance they could do than winning games with team mates who have no roots, no feelings and no passion for the country.
u boj! 😉
PS: Thats your dream one day? Well without Edu, Cro would have barely made EURO, with Euro you might have won it, no bitterness intended, even you know I agree with you, I just don’t think its appropriate to hear this from a guy that even owns a Eduardo jersey.
“Couldn’t point out Croatia in a map” coming from a guy that keeps posting “reporting from lakerville”
Please, Dario will keep showing his class at Ajax and you guys will miss out, Argentina’s gain, we can have 3 up front Aguero and Cvitanich on the sides and Higuain as the striker, messi on the wing and Tevez just behind higuain
