Borussia Dortmund made headlines on Sunday as they disposed of their manager, Lucien Favre, and rather than electing to hire a big-name replacement, left the squad in the hands of 38 year old German-Croat, Edin Terzić, as caretaker manager for the remainder of the season.
Terzić, born in Germany to a Croatian mother and holding a Croatian passport, started his career as a youth coach at Dortmund under Jurgen Klopp and then went on to serve as Slaven Bilić’s top assistant while at West Ham and Besiktas. In his introductory press conference, Terzić signaled a desire to return to the “heavy metal football” from the Klopp era, saying “there are two ways you can win a football match: you can concede one goal less, but you can always want to score one more. I’m more for the latter”.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Dortmund may have already reached an agreement with Borussia Mönchengladbach’s coach, Marco Rose, to join the club next season, so it could be a short stay for Terzić. However, could he pull a Hansi Flick, who took the Bundesliga by storm after replacing Niko Kovač on an interim basis last season, and get the job full-time?
While we still don’t know yet if he’s cut out to manage at the highest level, his baptism of fire at Dortmund will give us insight into whether he’s one of Europe’s brightest up and coming managers, or if he’ll simply return to his role as an assistant moving forward. Given the lack of a strong pipeline of young Croatian managers, could Terzić one day lead the Vatreni?
With Slaven Bilić being sacked at West Brom on Wednesday, will the former Croatian manager take the rest of the season off and look for a new job in the summer? Would Terzić bring him on as an assistant in Dortmund for the next six months since their relationship is iron clad?
Lot’s of possibilities here alongside future coaching prospects for Croatia.

@Suba
Has a coach ever been sacked for not taking an interest in his players well being? Is that why Bilic got sacked from WBA?
Fuck off dickhead
^
I know, I read it.
“At club level I think Bilic has arguably not done better than Kovac so my real assessment is with their respective times with the repka where my real motivation is”
Wtf are you on about “arguably,” Bilic has won nothing at club level, Kovac has done very well for himself?
Don’t forget Bilic didn’t make a world cup with the repka, where your real motivation is.
So you think Bilic is a better coach than Kovac because of his failure against Turkey in ’08? Thanks for the laugh!
In my opinion Dinamo is arguably better than Hajduk lol!
I did you fuckin idiot
It’s on the other thread you dick
Suba can’t even tell everyone why Bilic is a better coach than Kovac, what’s that tell ya? It tells me that he’s trying to fit in with the “cool posters” Maminjo and Slavonac. Someone is a jocksniffer, unless he can tell everyone why Bilic is a better coach than Kovac?
^
Agreed.
Lot of really dumb fellow Croats on here. Kovac is a good coach, Bilic is a nice guy and mediocre coach. Not sure what this hate is for Niko Kovac on here.
I didn’t know Cro Cop was SDP, but know that I do I’ll enjoy the Gonzaga ko, what was a sad moment has turned into one of my favourite sporting moments, thanks Maminjo.
Remember Cro Cop’s leg bent under him lol, what a loser.
^
What about that loser Skoro, he’s a right wing Titoljub.
All the political parties in Croatia are a joke, all pro EU globalist fucks which tells you all you need to know about all of them, they’re all communists.
Skoro was singing in Serbian clubs in Pittsburgh while Croats were being killed in a war (his wife is a Serb).
In Croatia Croatian people serve the politicians and not the other way around.
I’ll let this song explain politics in Croatia.
https://youtu.be/zmZVFMnqRFI
A lot of it is opportunity though, so it’s really hard to see what they are really about.
.
Cro Cop was SDP. He held a seat 15 years ago.
But the guy, to me, is the opposite of SDP in terms of what he says and does.
There was probably something available for him as an SDP candidate, so he took it.
Even Bandic was SDP I think, and he acts pretty HDZ. Goes out of his way to diminish anything Yugo or Commie related, including trying to get rid of a cake with a red star on it, ha ha.
.
I don’t follow Milanovic enough, even though he’s SDP, he might be a centrist (not sure). He might be all talk when he spews out left wing things. Lots of army guys like him for some reason. BiH Croats are warming up to him too. He’s not like that Partizan wannabe (Josipovic) who literally blew his load every time he saw a photo of Tito, lol. Or Racan who was so dedicated to give away our waters to Slovenia for no reason.
Well according to him, his mom’s side have Ujo connections. So I guess that may have endeared him to voters, lol
Isn’t Doran Milanovic from Sinj
What the hell happened there
I guess that proves Boban is a Dalmatinac (and not the Dalmatinska Zagora kind).
Looked it up.
Boban’s dad is a Hercegovac. His mom an Imoćanka, and he played his football in Imotski.
Hercegovci and Imoćani fight about whether he’s one of theirs…
Until Boban said that he was voting for Zoran Milanović.
Suddenly neither side wanted to claim him as theirs, haha.

Rebić says he’s a Dalmatinac.
Rebić, in a German interview, said hates ćevapi (can’t get more Dalmo than that).
Cracker song that

Bog i Hrvati
Pogs right
Pretty sure Boban and Rebic are Hercegovci. Im talking about what their fathers identify as. And mothers.
So are we talking about where a player is born, raised, and had developed their footballing game?
.
…Or are we talking about where a player’s family name origin is from over a century ago?
.
Suker was born, raised, and developed his football in Osijek.
So, IMO, he is a product of Slavonia.
Yes, the Suker name is from Livno (which is not Hercegovina),…but he’s not born or raised there anyway. His parents might not be either.
.
Boban is born and raised in Imotski. He’s a Dalmatinac, the same way Rebic identifies as a Dalmo (also from Imotski). They’re right on the granica, yes, but it’s still Dalmacija (despite the high Mećka to non-Mećka ratio).
.
In terms of Hercegovina producing a lot of players to date (who are actually born and raised in Hercegovina)…I can only think of Nikica Jelavic right now.
.
In terms of Hercegovci born or raised in other regions…there’s been a few, but nothing too crazy (i.e. Soldo).
.
However, yes, all of our key U21 and U19 players from Zagreb are Hercegovci (Brekalo, Sosa, Sutalo, Musa) and Dalmatinci too (Gvardiol, Marin, Moro, Majer, Colina).
.
Even our Austrian superstar (Luka Sucic) is also either from Sinj or Livno too.
.
So, I guess the winning formula for our National Team is getting a bunch of Dalmos, Hercegovci, and Bosanci to raise their kids in Zagreb or Osijek (or Austria).
The border between Imotski and Hercegovina is not a real border
It means absolutely nothing
That’s true pog
A lot of people here adhere to Yugoslav type history revisinism here
Boban is a true hercegovac
Don’t tell anyone from Imotski that he is a dalmstinac
@Armada
It starts with being ridiculously good looking and having a really big kurac. If you dont tick those boxes you’ll never fit in. Then get yourself some gold and an old used Mercedes. Get back to me when you get to that point.
I believe Stanic and Soldo too.
Boban is a Hercegovac. Just because Imotski is technically in Croatia ask anyone that’s from there.
Was gonna ask about Brekalo too. Born in Zagreb but wouldn’t be surprised if his family are from Hercegovina.
Like suker they moved to slavonija from either from Hercegovina or central Bosnia
Suker is a Pravi hercegovac from listani
I am certain Mandzos family are from Bosna too
Have you ever met an original slavonac
Too soft too timid let alone to become a successful footballer
Wait a minute
Rakitic is not a slavonac
Please Maminjo don’t equate the slavoncis with the dalmatinci in terms of footballing output
Plus don’t give slavonac anymore ammunition that he needs
@ARMADA
.
Yea, but you can’t compare Rijeka to Lika and Northern Cro.
.
Other than Varteks (once upon a time), there is nothing up there for football…and they still produced Robert Jarni, Drazen Ladic, and a similar bunch of fringe players that Rijeka produced (but with a fraction of the population).
.
Lika has nothing, but it’s a largely empty place.
.
Rijeka is a legitimate city. So is Pula. These two regions actually have money and football infrastructure too.
Weird because Rijeka seems to produce players in other sports, but nothing really in football.
.
It will probably get better in the future though, as the HNL is getting better and Zagreb, Rijeka and Osijek have partnerships yet competition between them.
@Pog
Hercegovci have been good, but it’s hard to put them ahead of the Dalmatinci and Slavonci.
Dalmacija gave us Modric, Boban, Prso, Boksic, Asanovic, Bilic, Stimac, Vrsaljko, and Perisic.
Most being key players for our bronze and silver World Cup medals.
Slavonci are up there with the Dalmatinci with Suker, Olic, Mandzo, Rapaic, Vida, and Vlaovic. Petric and Rakitic are all (kind of) Slavonci so if you add them then that’s pretty crazy for such a low population region.
Zagreb (and surrounding area) punches a bit below their weight, but still produced guys like Prosinecki, Brozovic, and Kranjcar…but they seem to do well producing Croat youth from other regions like Corluka, Lovren, Kovacic, Soldo, etc.
But I guess it’s a matter of whether you consider these guys Zagreb players…or simply just Hercegovci, Bosanci, and Dalmatinci raised in Zagreb.
Our youth teams are essentially ALL that right now.
Everybody born and raised in ZG, but whose parent are from somewhere else.
We have time, since ARMADA celebrates it on Jan 7th
.
😉
Sure we will send you one just in time for Christmas
Can someone send me a ‘Become a Hercegovac’ starter pack? Could someone highlight what’s in the starter pack and confirm if this would TRULY get me on the path to living a ‘za dom … spremni’ lifestyle.
Wow! Nikica Jelavic is back in HNL with Lokomotiva?! 35 years old. Wish more of our National Teamers did that.
You all can start with a nice pair of socks for your sandals and then go from there.
If more Hrvati were like Hercegovci there’d be no stopping us! ????
Funny enough, I was reading about Niko Datkovic a bit now and the team he’s on (Kisvárda FC in Hungary, 8th in the table) and he’s teammates with Hajduk legend Tonci Kukoc 😀
@ Maminjo
If you think about, there are a number of regions that lack that representation at the senior NT level for us; Kvarner, Istra, Lika and northern Cro, up by Krapina and Baranja – to name a few.
.
I’ve talked to my dad and stric (who played in amatuer teams in Jugo briefly and in NYC) about the lack of footballers to come out of our neck of the woods and none of them really had a good answer. As a whole, we’ve produced a fair amount of support players and fringe players for both SFRJ and Croatia; Sluga, Balaban, Mladenovic, Agic, Pamic, Andelo Milevoj – who I’m distantly related to, Gracan, Saric, Mocinic, Prskalo, Sharbini brothers, Brajkovic, Dario Knezevic just to name ones off the top of my head. I think out of all of those, the one with the most NT caps is Danjiel Saric and he has like 20-30 caps, without cheating and looking it up.
.
Rijeka has a decent academy, but its still light years away from what even Hajduk has. I feel like Rijeka produces a ‘can’t miss’, home grown player every few years that doesn’t pan out and they ultimately turn into a journeyman. Good example of this was Niko Datkovic. I was CERTAIN he would become an NT player for us at CB. He moved from Rijeka to Spezia, than bounced around a few Serie B teams, Swiss teams, was at Cracovia in Poland for a number of years and now is playing for a Hungarian team I never heard of. A lot of similar stories like that – even in recent times. Kids get hyped at the academies at Istra 1961 and Rijeka, make the senior team, try and transfer out to something bigger and don’t do dick.
.
I’d love to have a big name on the NT for our region that I could cheer on, like the purgeri and dalmatinci do, but jebiga what can we do haha
One thing that always surprised me about Rijeka (and generally all of the Kvarner and Istra Region) is the astounding lack of footballing talent for our National Team.
They have the population size, solid footballing infrastructure and clubs, and even more money than other parts of Cro.
When you compare what Rijeka produced (Balaban? Mladenović?) to what some tiny towns or villages have produced like Imotski (Boban, Rebić), Nova Gradiška (Vlaović, Rapaić, Bjelica), or Slavonski Brod (Mandžo, Olić) produced… It’s not even close….Never mind actual cities like Split, Osijek or Zadar.
I’m very disappointed in you ARMADA and the rest of your kin. You boys are holding us back. We would had won TWO World Cups by now if you guys contributed to our football even a little. 😉
Yes, the two first qualifiers for WC 2022 are in the Yugoslav capital of Rijeka (Reka or Fiume, depending on who you are).
Me and all my Serb and Yugo buddies from the area are going to blast some turbo serbo come game day (Lepa Brena is my FAVEEEEEEEEEE) and we’ll all wear our triglavke and party like it’s 1980!
He’s as Croatian as Darijo Srna
So he is Croatian
Very confusing
Just check the comments section on some BiH news portals…
.
Looks like his dad is from Jajce and mom is from Osijek…and his Instagram is apparently filled with Croatian NT photos (and nothing from Bosna).
Why does everyone assume he is muslim?
.
Yes, he has a Bosniak first name, which likely means one of his parents are Bosniak.
.
His last name is actually very Croatian. He’s born in Germany, and has a Croatian passport (not a BiH one).
.
My guess is that he likely grew up in the Croatian community in Germany, and is probably Catholic with a Muslim name (like Ibrahimovic).
You are a lucky man KILLA
^
Lol!
Hey peasants… you all should know that i have a ps5 and you all dont. HAH peasants. Im a boss
I stand corrected then
Ok edin is not Croatian
Kvartuc you will need to rewrite your article
He’s not Croatian
Suba
What is a Croatian Muslim? Croatians like myself take great pride in being Catholic. You want me to read up on Croatian history? You want me to read up on how Izetbegović called up on Mujahideenas from the Saudia Arabia and Middle East to help out “Bosniaks” Should I read more on how Mujahideens were slaughtering Croatians in Bosnia. Oh I’m sorry, slaughtering Catholics in Bosnia, burning down Catholic Churches and killing Croatians. Croatians were ransacking muslimani villages as well, and killing Muslims.
There are still terrorist attacks till this day against Croatians (Catholics) in Bosnia. Muslims in Bosnia are walking around with their Turkish flags, sucking ???????? dick.
In my point of view, i cannot a Croatian man getting on his knees and kissing the floor. That doesn’t make sense.
Despite all of that inter is not going that badly
@Suba-Like I predicted early this season, Perisic is going to be very disgruntled with his role in Cunte’s 3-5-2.
Both Perisic and Cunte are ready to move on.
Perisic is obviously a great wing, but he was getting run ragged in the 3-5-2. He would be better utilized in his traditional role, or even as a LB in a four back system.
Under normal circumstances, at $15 million there would be no shortage of suitors, but with no ticket sales for anybody, he might just not get sold.
Good news: I am ok with him preserving himself, until the Euros.
Stipe
What’s the go with you thinking you can’t be Croatian if you are Muslim
Read up on your Croatian history
Yes Croatian
Edin????? Is he Muslim?
What next for Perisic
According to jutarnji list he is not in Contes future plans
Anon are you suggesting that kovac is a better coach than Bilic
Surely not
“Heavy Metal Football”
I love it.
@Caine- why did you respond to me? I have absolutely zero interest in this story, and still haven’t read or commented on the topic. Respond to Suba if you don’t like what he said.
@Maminjo
Teams like West Ham and WBA are never going to be great, doesn’t matter who coaches them.
@Suba
Bilic has to do something similar to what Kovac did at Eintracht Frankfurt to get a better job, something he hasn’t been able to do.
So why is Bilic better than Kovac?
Yes but he is at wba because of his failure at west ham
Career killer it was
@Suba
Yea, he seems to make a great first impression and all his teams overachieve in their first year with him…but for some reason, he just plateaus and regresses in the following years.
.
He may just be one of those coaches that are good at making average teams good, but not the kind of coach that makes good teams great. I dunno.
.
You can’t really blame this WBA situation on this, but this exact same result happened to him in essentially all of his other club coaching gigs.
I think it’s time for this new Cro coach to get Nikola Vlasić over to Borussia. Would be a great fit for him with their attacking style, and an outstanding next step in his development.
Armada the first two qualifiers are to be held in Rijeka
Great news for you and all of your Yugoslav buddies
Even though I like Bilic as a person however he is overrated as a coach
Better than Kovac though
@Eric
.
I’m up and down on Bilic (much like his career)…but WBA is very lucky to be in the EPL in the first place.
.
They chose to not spend any serious money, took a long time to finally get Krovinovic for another season long loan, and they still unexpectedly sold a key player.
.
Now I’m hearing that ownership doesn’t want to be involved anymore, lol. After having their fingers in everything up until now.
WBA ownership is delusional if they think this team is good enough for the EPL.
.
Maybe Big Sam will get more out of them and it might be enough to barely stay in, but it really doesn’t matter. They’ll just get relegated the following year.
I like big Slav he’s the ying to lovren’s yang.
Self deprecating charming never full of himself and was as solid as they came in the back…complete opposite to lovren.
All of the comments in the english media seem to support Bilic. Everyone agrees this was a terrible move by WBA and their chinese ownership. I’m sure he will land a better job in the EPL eventually.
Boy lovren is getting roasted on social media ouch.
I wonder how well wonderboys KLOPP or guardiola could have done with the scrubs WBA was fielding?
How bad was it when they had to poach an over the hill ivanovic to try and shore up their defense?
^
R u ok?
@BZ
really! Is this not a snitch business…I think Terzic should’ve rejected the offer and rather start his coaching career from scratch at a new club…taking over from ur superior after he is sacked doesn’t sound gud to me…I know the Hansi Flick eg is there but am not talking performance here, just LOYALTY.
How would u feel if your best friend marries ur ex-wife right after a sour divorce?
Best of luck Edin you deserve your chance
Your patience has been paid off
All the best
