Former Dinamo Zagreb Academy Director Romeo Jozak talks about tomorrow’s Europa League clash between Dinamo and Tottenham Hotspur. He shares his prediction and when he thinks Livaković, Petković, and Orišić will leave the club as well as what he would would tell the Dinamo players going into the Spurs encounter.
Damn.
Good result though.
Huge late goal to take back to Milan!
All the croats and the half-croat are injured.
Milan only have 6 subs and one keeper on the bench! This would have been Mandzo’s time to take his place on this squad.
Why’s Rebic not in the lineup today?!
Not even on the bench
These Jozak interviews are great!
Hopefully they’ll be a somewhat regular thing.
After your your Zdravko Mamic interview get Jelavic’s uncle to do one.
Oprah aint got shit on you Ante!
Kvartuc,
.
You should take advantage of the pandemic and get more Croatian celebs on the site at the same time.
.
Doing a multi-guest call with Joe Simunic, Andrew Bogut, Romeo Jozak, Stipe Miocic, etc would be fantastic.
.
I’m sure these guys are bored out of their minds and that’s probably why they’ve become more available via online chat. Plus, you already have a relationship with some of these guys now.
.
Think of a general topic that they can all contribute to (so that Miocic doesn’t sit there looking stupid) and just have a general chat about it. From Croatian soccer, to best Croatian towns, to best Croatian foods. Hear what they all have to say.
Great interview!
@Maminjo…”Dinamo seem to be the masters of holding on to their greatest talents just long enough to sell them at their peak value…”
Yes… that’s exactly what I want Dinamo to do. They are getting better at holding onto their big talents long enough to help them do well in Europe, then sell them at the highest possible price. This helps Dinamo, the player, the HNL, and our Repka in the longrun.
These Jozak interivews are some of the most insightful interviews this site has churned out, svaka ti cast Ante!
.
Surprised by his take on Osijek. I actually disagree with Romeo in that for this year, Osijek have a very solid XI, excellent coaching staff and good ownership now. Plus, they have been consistent and have stayed neck and neck with Dinamo. I think like Rijeka in 2017, they’re built to take Dinamo to the wire on who wins the title and honestly, I hope they do it, even if its just for a year. While Dinamo is good for our football in general, its kind of boring when they win a title 10 years in a row… would be nice if Rijeka, Hajduk and Osijek break a Dinamo run of championships more often.
.
Thinking about future interviews, I think it would be really interesting to hear from a ‘bigger’ 2nd division team (Dragovoljac, Orijent, Dugopolje, etc.) whether it be their academy director, director of football, etc. and see at the more grass roots level, what some of these teams are doing and how they’re feeding the Dinamo’s, Hajduk’s, Rijeka’s and Osijek’s of the world. Would probably be hard to find someone who’s English is as good as Romeo’s, but some food for thought?
.
You guys are definitely upping the ante (…see what I did there?) on your interviews, but think about some ‘out of the box’ folks tied to our nogomet or sports scene in general, like a Romeo, who has great insight and isn’t some ‘big name’ in our Croatian universe. I think it’ll get the site more eyeballs and lead to more dialouge.
@Medo
.
It’s probably the reason why Dinamo is so good at selling off highly-rated young talent that end up busting out later.
.
They were very quick to sell off Jedvaj, Coric, Halilovic, Simunovic…and more recently, Antonio Marin.
.
It made me wonder why they would sell off these particular guys so quickly for mediocre money…and then all of them busted out.
.
Halilovic is a primma donna, Coric seems immature, Jedvaj is also kind of a floater, Simunovic was always overrated.
.
I’m worried that Marin might also have been displaying some mental immaturity or something that Dinamo didn’t like (and they tried to pawn him off to Monza very quickly for a quick buck). Seemed unreal that they would settle for so little, after Marin impressed so much at the Youth League.
.
I hope I’m wrong about Marin, but Dinamo seem to be the masters of holding on to their greatest talents just long enough to sell them at their peak value (Modric, Olmo, now Majer soon). but very quick to sell off the ones who were seemingly just as good (in terms of prospect status) only to find out later that they’re duds.
.
I guess the litmus test with Dinamo is to never buy any of their young talent if the price seems to good to be true. They will bamboozle you.
Listening to Jozak speak offers people the opportunity to understand the “mentality” of soccer…especially in the Croatian aspect of the game. He was talking about respect of players towards the coaches….I remember mentioning something about this a few times on here. When a coach arrives onto the field during practice, players stand with their hands behind their back and greet him politely…almost like in the military. The mentality is everything, those players learn at a young age that its a privilege to be part of a team. The better the team, the bigger the privilege…and each season you have a new rival fighting to take your position and playing time. That is why I feel our kids back home do relatively well at progressing. They are scouted and from a young age, if they are good enough, they can move to better teams with better coaches AND sponsors! They play against BIG name clubs in several tournaments across Europe. Its not like here in North America where you can sign up for an academy and your dad can throw some bucks at the organization to get you on the team…NOT generally. I know it happens in Croatia but not the level it happens in North America where a kid can be shitty and still get on those better teams. In Croatia, you have to be good because at some level, you will be completely exposed and the club will eventually lose if they play you.
The more I hear this man speak the more I’m impressed with him .
He’s a class act and a very smart man, it’s interesting how he really focuses on the mental and psychological aspects of the game in this interview.
Kicking the ball is pointless if you’re not mentally focused and playing with courage and confidence seems to be what he’s trying to get at,and what dinamo tries to instill at their academy.
Great job Ante.
Hahahahahahahaha…you fly, I buy

Ante…read what Suba said!
What about zdravko mamic
That would be interesting
You would obtain some important insights

Another great interview from you. I love Dinamo and this interview with Romeo is quite informative. He is one smart guy and has done a lot for Dinsmo.
Who are you interviewing next? Luka Modric. 😀😀
