With the game already out of hand Thursday night and only seconds to kill off the clock, Croatian Dario Šarić decided to take advantage of the open floor and put the ball up for the layup. Philadelphia had already won with Cleveland Cavaliers players standing around putting zero defensive pressure on the ball. There’s an unwritten rule to simply dribble out the clock, but did Šarić violate this as the Sixers were in transition to get the ball over the half court line; with no defense in site?
Cavs guard Jordan Clarkson grabbed the ball and threw it at Šarić. In this scenario, who was right?
Šarić had 16 points and nine rebounds in the 108-97 win over Cleveland. The victory brings the 76ers to 33-27 on the season which is good enough for 6th place in the East. If the season ended today, the Cavs would host the Sixers in the first round. However, Philadelphia sit only 2.5 games behind Cleveland in a congested Eastern Conference standings. Philadelphia last made the playoffs in 2012 as the 8-seed.
Try and say what you want but it was a bitch move by Saric
Commentators were criticizing LeBron and the Cavs anyway.
Accused this of being “fake outrage” to deflect from the fact that they got owned on their home court by this young Sixers squad.
Said that Šarić should have dunked it harder.
Is there an unwritten rule that says you have to observe the unwritten rule?
We know you can’t throw the ball at another player, that’s a written rule, there’s no excuse for not observing that.
Clarkson is the moron here, and for once I agree with @The truth, Saric should’ve owned what he did.
Cavs were aggressively defending the inbound pass, so it’s still game on. Redick was being chased down by a defender, even after the inbound pass.
I get the unwritten rule, but it goes both ways.
Also, Šarić only apologized cuz his teammate Embiid was asking him WTF he dunked it. Šarić was just confused after, but he was in the right.
No chance hezonja would’ve been apologizing
This is plenty fair
Sad to see saric apologizing profusely after the game. Stand up and own it
Do you guys think Saric was just finishing the lay up and didn’t see the players behind him as BZ mentioned or do you think it was a subtle Eto ti, na! type maneuver?
maybe he should’ve just ran out the clock but the cavs are a bunch of little babies making such a big deal about that…
^ ^
Good!
I love Modric but his testimony was bullshit.
How much trouble is modric in? Is there actually a chance he’ll go to jail? http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2762327-luka-modric-charged-with-false-testimony-in-former-dinamo-zagreb-execs-trial
It is an unwritten rule to not try to score when the shot clock is turned off and the other team has very little chance of winning. That said, I’m pretty sure the Cavs tried to score on the possession before when the shot clock was already turned off. Eye for an eye type of thing. The Cavs also tried to score again after the Saric basket. So if anything Saric put the beat down on a team trying to still fight when they should have followed the “unwritten rule” and stopped fighting back.
Fair
a) The Cavs were still playing Quasi -D, Saric cannot see the 1 or 2 players that stopped behind him. Perhaps Clarkson doesn’t have the ability to comprehend that Saric might not see that.
b) Instead of throwing the ball at Saric, use the last 12 seconds to hit a meaningless 3 or dunk on the other end.
c) Multi-millionaires should play to the last second. I lost too many last second bets because some team makes a meaningless basket at the end of a game cause the other team stopped playing D. So I can care less that Saric hurt their pride.
d) Can’t watch NBA anymore cause the face of the league is such an angry dude. James is a horrible role model for the youth that adore him. Look how he acts in that video. Inspiring more generations to react violently and angrily, over a perceived insult to their pride.
Not a Basketball fan, but if you don’t like it don’t lose.
I don’t know enough about basketball, is that a dick move or if Lebron does it is it ok? Or would most players not even do that?
