Silverware is back in Split for the first time since 2013!
A magnificent two-goal performance by former Croatia international Dario Melnjak has led Hajduk to their seventh Croatian Cup title. The atmosphere at Stadion Poljud was electric as the Bili defeated Rijeka 3-1 in the domestic tournament’s grand finale. Hajduk supporters rushed the pitch following the final whistle, offering just a glimpse of how important this trophy is to the entire city of Split.
Rijeka started off hot, as Josip Drmić scored the opening goal in the 13th minute of the match. However, Hajduk answered shortly after thanks to a neat, 24th minute header from Ferro. Everything fell apart for Rijeka after that goal, as Hajduk’s Melnjak scored his first of the match in the 36th minute. Only five minutes later, Rijeka’s Hrvoje Smolčić was given his second yellow card of the match, decreasing their side to 10 men. Melnjak sealed the deal in the 56th minute, completing his brace with a great finish.
