Silverware is back in Split for the first time since 2013!
A magnificent two-goal performance by former Croatia international Dario Melnjak has led Hajduk to their seventh Croatian Cup title. The atmosphere at Stadion Poljud was electric as the Bili defeated Rijeka 3-1 in the domestic tournament’s grand finale. Hajduk supporters rushed the pitch following the final whistle, offering just a glimpse of how important this trophy is to the entire city of Split.
Rijeka started off hot, as Josip Drmić scored the opening goal in the 13th minute of the match. However, Hajduk answered shortly after thanks to a neat, 24th minute header from Ferro. Everything fell apart for Rijeka after that goal, as Hajduk’s Melnjak scored his first of the match in the 36th minute. Only five minutes later, Rijeka’s Hrvoje Smolčić was given his second yellow card of the match, decreasing their side to 10 men. Melnjak sealed the deal in the 56th minute, completing his brace with a great finish.
Congratulations Hajduk!

Perisic signing with Spurs?
I dunno about that one.
It sounds like he always wanted to play in England
Where else would be an actual good fit?
Of course we want to see him play fairly regularly and have success without being too burnt out for the repka
If we want to cause problems at the World Cup him and luka have to play at their current level
It could be better than Chelsea, he may get used more often than he would at Chelsea so it could be a good signing actually. Chelsea have quite a few options in similar positions to my understanding, so it could actually be a good move for him.
Don’t want him injured for the World Cup
FINALLY, Hajduk wins something! I’m sick and tired of Hajduk fans carping on how things are unfair.
Hopefully this is a catalyst for future success!
Really good for Prva Liga to have Hajduk win finally- league is better with balance and it’s better for HNS to have some home grown guys battle it out- the atmosphere in that stadium when Hajduk is winning is insane- one of the best in soccer world.
I watched the last 10 minutes of the game, and the celebrations/chaos that followed. Like you said in the article…you can see and feel how much this trophy means to the “entire city of Split”…But, I would also add “all of Dalmacija”. I went to Cro last fall, to the Zagreb area (where my family is from), but also had the opportunity to travel through Split, Omis the Makarska area of Dalmacija. Besides the natural beauty of our homeland, I was really impressed with all of the artistic “Torcida and Hajduk” murals you can find, not only in Split, but in every area i drove through in Dalmacija.
Also, Cro media report that Perisic was at the game, on crutches.
I think it’s great that they won. Hopefully they can contend next season for the league title. Time will tell.
