Hajduk defeated Borussia Dortmund 9-8 in penalties (making all 9 penalties) during the quarterfinals of the UEFA Youth League Wednesday night. The Youth League is the Champions League equivalent to Europe’s younger squads. And this all comes after beating Manchester City 2-1 in the previous round.
Up next: AC Milan in the semifinals April 21st in Nyon, Switzerland.
AC Milan’s U-19 side defeated Dinamo Zagreb twice in group stage with Dinamo ultimately finishing third. These results will only help Hajduk grow during the next decade as they currently own 2nd spot in the HNL and have their U-19 side in the semifinals of Champions League.
Anybody watch Biuk last night? He missed some chances, but kept finding space and opportunities (albeit against inferior talent)
In all honestly if he keeps getting minutes, and takes advantage of them this move might work out!
A bit unlucky last night, he coulda had 2+ goals, and with a bit of time I wouldn’t be shocked to see him lead the league in scoring, for whatever that is worth.
He might be our best striker prospect
If we’re lucky, he could be the next Hany Mukhtar or Valentin Castellanos. 😉
Remember, it’s still just MLS.
What’s most important is that he gets out of there within two years and back into a European club.
Nice to see some success for Hajduk, I hope that can achieve more against AC Milan.
I was impressed with the fact that out of 18 penalty shots, 17 were taken well. These kids (on both teams) handled the pressure really well.
Buljan actually looked impressive to me. I liked the way he covered his angles and positioned himself and controlled his area with confidence,
Well done hajduk, great stuff. No easy achievement that.
By the way I just wanted to share a bit of frustration. I like to watch YouTube highlights of a players performance in each game. So far I have found YouTube comp of nearly every Real Madrid player against Liverpool in the last match EXCEPT modric! Also, same for Chelsea: havertz, mudryk, Enzo, and many others have YouTube comps of their recent winning performances. But no kovacic! Despite being captain and being the key player seems no Chelsea fans want to highlight him. It seems we aren’t sexy enough. Croatia is a small Eastern European nation, people are salty and don’t want us at the top table. Gvardiol has one bad game and the media start getting excited about him being over rated!
Let us not forget this. We’ll have to show them again!
“Eastern” European? 😕
Looks like you share the same problem these Westerners have. 😉
Don’t get me started xx
Amazing stuff
Hopefully hajduk can one day get back to some glory on the bigger stages
I saw zlatan is back with Sweden at 41
Luka World Cup at 40????
I love how Hajduk’s keeper was all cocky after he saved the 9th attempt (after letting in the first 8) ha ha
I guess we have our own Emi Martinez now lol
Watched the match and when it went to penalties, I thought that Borussia Dortmund had the edge as their goalkeeper looked the goods and was quicker and more agile than Hajduk’s goalkeeper Buljan.
The first 8 penalties taken by Borussia were pretty much unstoppable, however it also has to be said that Buljan kept on diving the opposite side to where the ball was hit. The ninth penalty was poor and easy to save providing the goalkeeper went the right way which in this case Buljan did. Hajduk’s penalty takers were also good, and the German goalkeeper luckily never looked like saving one.
Buljan was predictable, slightly going one way just before the shot, tipping everyone off.
Neither keeper looked close to getting a finger on the ball before the first and only save.
