CroatianSoccerReport.com caught up with 33 year-old Croatian backup goalkeeper, Vedran Runje, earlier this week in Rovinj; and found out in shocking fashion that he has quit the Croatian national team after only being capped six times in the past three years.
Allegedly, Runje was extremely upset when coach Slaven Bilić named Hajduk goalie, Danijel Subašić, ahead of Runje on the depth chart. With Runje pushed to emergency keeper; he had a complete falling out with the entire coaching staff.
Runje stated that he has enjoyed putting everything he’s had into being part of the ‘Vatreni’. He loves all his teammates and will miss them dearly but this is purely professional. His current club, RC Lens, will be promoted to the French first division next season and Runje has made the decision to put all his time and energy into that squad.
Runje feels like a complete ‘fool’ as he was dealt a ‘cheap shot’ by Bilić. Thinking he was in contention for the first keeper spot with Pletikosa but instead being pushed behind rookie Danijel Subašić. It was simply embarrassing for Runje as he thought he ‘deserved better’ for all the time he put into the Croatian side.
Does Galinović fill his spot now? It would be a complete ‘joke’ if he didn’t!
More news on the ‘Runje Scandal’ as it develops…
~Ante Kvartuč, reporting on a very sad day in Croatian soccer 🙁
Well, it looks like CSR played a nice April fools joke on many of you today. I found the picture and came up with the idea. Ante did a magnificent job on the write up, however, I wouldn’t have put the “clues” in quotes and Brane does wonders with the computer.
Maybe there is a Croatian April Fools day for next year.
Oliver
Funny, that you put this article on your site, hopefully, this didn’t cause you any problems with your followers.
Vlad
We really got you! Great analysis, however, I do have to say that Runje did have a few chances, unfortunately he was injured. Didulica never had a chance.
Ivica
Hopefully, your dad is ok after that heart attack! We here at CSR are not responsible for an health related incidents. If you preffer to sue, we are run by Ante Kvartuc.
Marko, Darijo
hahahahahaha
Croatiafan:)
I think you’re not giving enough credit to Runje. Yes he’s playing second division French football, however, he is the main reason Lens are in first place. After watching the highlights of almost every Lens game this season, Vedran has to make at least 2 quality saves per game that some keepers couldn’t make. Vedran played extremely well at Euro 2008 against a Polish side still looking to advance to the second round. If healthy, I would start him in front of Pletikosa.

will post live-streaming which can be watched from any platform!
anyone know any sites to watch the game, i dont mind paying, i just need a site that would work on a Mac, im at work and dont have a pc.
thanks
i think i came too late to be fooled by this, but am sure would be taking the morning off to write a essay in comment if others hadn’t got in first 🙂
I’m a bit confused by Runje’s sudden involvement under Bilic. He used to be big fish in the Belgian league for so long and nobody looked at him, but now he is a second division keeper and in his 30’s he’s suddenly involved.
Seems like Runje is just going through motions these days. If he did quit i’m not sure i’d be too bothered. May just have the so what reaction i had when Tomislav Butina left and when Ante Seric and Igor Biscan walked out.
I think Galinovic really has been the one hard done by. Regards if Vejic started against Andorra personally i don’t care about that. I’d rather that then Drpic or Knezevic. At least Vejic has been impressive with Hajduk since he joined. Personally i’d make Corluka and Krizanac play in the centre and make srna and pranjic play wing backs. I don’t see what’s coming at us that is so dangerous from Andorra. We should just look to play through them.
Talking of Didiluca he’s got his place back at AZ Alkmaar. i wander if he’s worth another look.
Lol, nice prank. I was fooled =/
Didn’t get me
I’ve already been fooled about 10 times already today lol
FUCK you got me!
Oh, wait
over here its March 31 – 11:52pm ;D
come on guys, now i gotta tell my dad that you were pulling our leg..
“Runje feels like a complete ‘fool’…”
“It would be complete ‘joke’ if he didn’t!”
good one gentlemen, you got me good
what a joke, this smells like bilic all over again, did the same thing to simic, and know look on wed veijc is our starter, dont think bilic handled it well, pleti been given a free ride for far too long, i dont like pleti being given no competion, its not good to give him gurantee starting position, i would have quit too if i was runje, didulica was treated the same way back i o5 he had one of hes best seasons was on fire, never got a chance, not a good meassage for the team.
WAIT A SECOND!?!?!
April Fools?
indeed, the mic looks a bit moldy 😉
i’ve tracked back the news at http://hns-latest.com
Oiver,
We are the source. Take a look at the picture. CSR was covering the Runje interview in person.
Excuse our 1982 microphone, our budget is still a bit low…
whats’ your source of the news?
as far as i know runje was just pushed in as second goalkeeper behind pletikosa.
Rukavina is the best striker everr wooo wooo ….ya rukavina hes better than eduardo
wtf????????
Considering his excellent form in France, it was very odd for him not to get more playing time for the NT. Then again, he’s not getting any younger at 32. Galinovic should be a sure thing at this point.
