Some unexpected results kicked off (pun intended) the season, which started Friday featuring Dinamo Zagreb hosting NK Rudeš. The match featured the first goal of the season, which was credited to Sadegh Moharami of Dinamo, who unfortunately scored for the wrong team.
The own goal led to an early Rudeš lead, which they successfully defended through 90 minutes. Dinamo were able to snatch a point from the depths of despair and embarrassment in extra time thanks to Dino Perić.
Perić stated after the match that Dinamo “underestimated” Rudeš, but said as long as the team learns from this match, the season will be successful.
Hajduk Split faced a demoralizing defeat at the hands of NK Osijek this weekend, falling 4-1 in their first match of the season
Osijek is coming off a tough 1-0 loss to Glasgow’s Rangers FC in the Europa League this past week, and seemed to take their frustration out on their domestic opponents. Goals from four different Osijek players – Ezekial Henty, Robert Mudražija, Haris Hajradinović, and Guti – were more than enough to find victory for the biljeo-plavi.
Hajduk have other problems to deal with on top of their loss. Goalkeeper Josip Posavec was left off the starting line up due to a muscle injury, making way for Tomislav Duka to make his league-debut for the Bili. However, Duka exited the match early due to an injury sustained during play. Further evaluations determined Duka to have suffered from a broken bone in his elbow and requires surgery. He is expected to miss three months.
HNK Rijeka took care of business on Saturday, defeating HNK Gorica in their HNL debut with a score of 2-0. Domagoj Pavečić and Mario Pavelić scored the two Rijeka goals in the 20th and 27th minutes, respectively.
NK Lokomotiva achieved the largest margin of victory in the opening weekend with a 4-0 win over NK Inter Zaprešić. Matko Babić, Dejan Radonić and Ivan Krstanović all registered goals in the match.
Slaven Belupo and Istra 1961 ended the match in Pula with a draw of 1-1.

Modrić after this World Cup has transcended Real Madrid.
Good luck to Bale when you don’t have Modrić supplying you with consistent world class service.
IM – Inter Milan – Inter Modrić
Part of me wants Modric to stay at Madrid so he can be the superstar there..other part of me wants him to go to Inter so he can challenge Juve for the tittle and pursue a different path
https://m.calciomercato.com/en/news/report-inter-in-talks-for-modric-27520
IM = Inter Modrić
Good for Vrsaljko.
He didn’t like it in Madrid and butted heads with Diego Someone.
Inter has a great coach and they finally look like they are going in the right direction. Hopefully, Perišić stays. I don’t want any of our older guys in England. Guys like Modrić, Rakitić and Perišić need to take it easy and focus on extending their national team service.
Crazy!
3 of our best this summer Perisic Brozovic and Vrsaljko all at Inter.
Would be awesome if Luka joined them.
They’re in the CL this year too.
AND Modric in talks to go to inter
Off topic… but just saw Vrsaljko to inter Milan 1 yr loan with purchase option
Dinamo Zagreb 7-2 on aggregate. Through to the 3rd round of qualifying.
