What a sensational move by Croatian defender Josip Juranović this January transfer window; moving from the Scottish Premier League to the German Bundesliga. He’s currently starting for the 3rd place team in the Bundesliga (Bayern, Dortmund, Union Berlin all tied on 43 points) and has now notched his first goal for Berlin Thursday night vs. Ajax in Europa League action. In the 44th minute, Juranović would rattle off a shot from 23 yards out which managed to skip past the keeper to make it 2-0. However, any goalie on any day makes that save 99/100 times. Regardless, Juranović bags his first goal for Union Berlin and added an assist off a corner kick later in the 2nd half. Union Berlin would defeat Ajax 3-1 to book their spot in the Europa League Round of 16. The draw will be held February 24th.
Juranović was given an 8.8/10 rating and MOTM honors for his goal+assist efforts. Looks like he made himself a nice little home in Berlin one month into his contract.
Luka Sučić came on at halftime for RB Salzburg in a 2-0 loss to Roma. Salzburg lose 2-1 (agg.) as their European season ends.
Lovro Majer got the start for Rennes but was subbed off in the 71′. The match would go into extra time with Rennes scoring an own goal in the 119th minute to force a penalty kick shootout vs. Shakhtar Donetsk; whose director is Darijo Srna. Shakhtar would win in the 6th round of PKs to progress to the next round.
Perisic move in the front 2 of a 3-5-2 set up With I don’t know who?
Broz covers the back three The wings are defensively responsible enough
Luka and kova in front
It could work I feel
Don’t know if it makes sense but what are your thoughts dečki?
Sosa. JJ
Gvardi/erlic/sutalo(Jakic,stanisic)
Stanisic needs to leave. He has learned what he can from Bayern. Unless he is thinking his time will come
But kid needs to play. He has shown he has potential
I think when we tried the different 3 it wasn’t the right personnel
I said this a few times before and I don’t know if it’s happening now but jackic played both central and right side in three man back line in champions league action. So obviously there is something there
Ljubicic with a penalty for LASK. Not quite the goals we are looking for but maybe this will help him get back in the grove.
Before the world cup, HRT aired a series called “Knjaz kod Vatrenih”. One of the episodes focused on Juranovic and Barisic. Its hard not to like this guy and his “can do” attitude.

Juranovic is the gold standard of how you fight for your futbol career!
Then once you stabilize yourself you make moves where you will be leader and be able to PLAY your game.
Gets himself out of Hajduk (which seems to be a place NOT to be?).
Goes to Legia Warsaw and then to Celtic.
Then chooses Berlin where he slides right into being a pivotal piece.
I also love how his performances for Croatia have propelled him forward.
27 year old nogometaš is the age when you are ascending into your prime.
His game will get better and better.
His motor is already legend.
The Brazil match gave him that Alpa dog confidence.
I wonder how many kids are looking up to Juranovic in Croatia?
All these overhyped “prodigies” who wind up being bums
Then you get Juranovic who wins some competition to get himself on the map and then fights tooth and nail to establish his footballing career.
This is what it is all about.
Juranovic has been playing on RW for Union. We should try him there for the repka and Stanisic on at RB!
I like that idea as well.
Only thing with Stanisic is the lack of playing apparently with what some have said on this website so Dalic probably wouldn’t start the guy on that basis, which I think it’s pretty fair. But I do think Stanisic is capable of being a good player.
Since Sosa proved at this World Cup that he’s not much of a defender, we could probably try a 3-5-2 and have Sosa and Juranovic as the wide players.
I dunno Maminjo the 3-5-2 didn’t work in the Nations League. I don’t really see how it would yield different results now or with a change in lineup. Keep in mind, Lovren also was present in the Nations League, so I am not sure how with him off the team it makes the situation any different for the formation.
I don’t think we played any 3-5-2 in Nations League. I think we always had four in the back.
I’m fine with 4-3-3 but just curious to see how 3-5-2 works since we have modern defenders, capable wingbacks (who aren’t the best at defending) and a solid midfield (as always).
I thought we did for some reason against Austria and Denmark the first time around. Maybe I did not close enough at the formation selection at the beginning of the game.
Pay close attention**, and looking back you were right it was 4 -2-3-1 and 4-3-3, I don’t know why I thought for some reason Dalic already tried it.
Sosa also proved he was not much of a winger as well. Hi crossed were horrible. He might of been playing injured though. He seemed a bit off at the WC.
Absolutely love this the way he has been playing. RW all day with Pasalic, Vlasic, Brekalo all sitting in a transition phase at the moment.
Helluva Player! What a season he has been having! I agree goalie shoulda stopped that, but credit to JJ for striking a nice left footed shot, low towards the far corner.
So he can cross with his right foot running down the line, or cut in and strike with his left…valuable to the Vatreni indeed…
