Dejan Lovren is calling it quits. After 78 matches for Croatia, which includes five goals and a 2nd & 3rd place finish at consecutive World Cups, the 33 year-old Lyon defender is hanging up his red and white checkers for good.
Lovren was instrumental for Croatia in 2018 and defied every critic (including me) in 2022.
He will go down as a Croatian quasi-legend with a huge personality who never shied away from his opinion.

and very lucky that Lukaku is a govno +
Gospodine Lovren- I remember the Cro-Spirit more than your soccer- for me , that matters more.
Statistically, Rennes look to be very unlucky with their.loss to Shakhtar. Although I didn’t have a chance to watch the game.
For all the shit talking about Lovren (me included) he provided passion from the old guard that hopefully continues. Loved the interview he gave after that video of him and Brozo…unapologetic. Hopefully our kids can learn to be the same way.
Regardless of what people say, he had an excellent 2018 WC and a surprisingly decent 2022 WC run.
His play definitely isn’t what it was, bit his timing to call it is perfect for everyone. Gvardiol, Sutalo and Erlic will be an excellent trio of defenders at our disposal.

Yes I do think we will lose that patriotism slowly
That’s been our key that the Serbs can’t have cause they lose all the wars
Let’s hope we can continue with winning breeding more winning
And hopefully the checkers won’t lose their sacredness
You can at least know
Lovren and vida would fight Serbs on the pitch all day long
Lovren would do the opposite, he’s always sucking up to Djokovic.
Same with Ivanisevic eek
A true croatian, a great player and also a patriot of his country. I will miss him.
The non PC group, lead by legends, Boban, Simunic is dying a slow death as required by the world power dictates. Marcelo Brozovic will be in the hospitality suites, shirtless all by myself, singing Marko Thompson, while the other 95% politically correct will stay off camera in the shadows, yeah that is you, “too much to lose” Perisic. Marcelo Brozovic, ” I’ll Keep the light on”, will solely carry the torch for a few more years, and Break-a-halo will be our renegade lite, refusing to wear require BLM arm bands.
Bye, Bye, Miss Croatian Pie, drove my Rimac Nevera to the riva , but the Danube is Dry , singing Klapa group, drinking Slivovitz and wine, saying this will be the dan kad umrem.
Lolol
Love it
Kromiza, that was very good. 👍
Beautiful – mike drop !!!
Curious about what people think about Stanisic staying with Bayern and not transferring? Has anybody been keeping tabs on how he has been doing??
Getting 0 minutes at Bayern thanks to his idiotic decision-making, completely wasted a whole season where he could’ve developed at a mid-table team in the Bundesliga or somewhere else in the top 4 leagues which could’ve helped him push our starting 11.
That sucks, why is he continuing where in Bayern if he is getting no minutes or development there? Seems foolish he looked to be a bright spot for defense as well.
JJ with a goal and rated 9.1 on sofa score!!
Proves there is always someone who will come out of the woodwork for us!!
What a back line we have cooking

I imagine Dalić told him he he wanted to go with a youth movement on the backline and gave him a heads up that he’d be a backup?
I didn’t see this coming since he has been playing his best soccer. I hope there is no lingering issue in the background over his comments after the WC (where he said nothing wrong and did nothing wrong).
A true Croat off and on the field who proudly wore the checkered jersey. One of our all-time great defenders. Never understood the “criticism” from the few who probably did not like him for reasons other than his play.
His experience and grittiness will be missed. Wish him the best! 👏❤️🇭🇷
Good on Dalic for putting it out there to him, they need further progress of who’s getting selected and we can’t keep holding on to these players who don’t have a future with the national team.
Lovren has also made the right decision as he has gone off on such a high with an underrated tournament and scoring a move back in France. Happy he had proved me wrong on what I thought he was going to play like at the World Cup.
Vida should and probably will do the same soon.
He had his time and he left on good terms. Despite him being inconsistent and in my opinion the least reliable player in big games. He still was energetic and had passion for the team. Gvardiol, Sosa, Erlic, Jurnaovic, Stanisic, Sutalo are all here and ready to take over. This is a gain for us. Vida and others should follow too.
Thank you Lovren for your service to Croatia
Your records speaks for yourself
Personally I thought he was a good defender who had momentary lapses in concentration
Hey he’s not alone in that defensive department
As a dalmatinac myself I always put it down to him having a bosanski glava hahahaha
All the best dejan you did us proud

I feel like erlic may give enough going forward and be enough stability to let gvardiol do his thing on offence
Thoughts?
I like Erlic and I would prefer him in the partnership with Gvardiol in the future. He’s tall, good in the air, strong, composed on the ball and is reasonably mobile.
If it is Sutalo, no complaints from me as both Erlic and Sutalo would work next to Gvardiol.
Thank you to a Croat warrior
I was hard on him at times, we all were
But thank you sir for the service
Ok so speaking of changing of guard
What’s going on with sutalo?
I guess it’s between him and erlic ti step up next in line??
The changing of the guard has started.
