It’s official. After leaving Juventus and European football 18 months ago, ‘Super Mario’ is back!
Mandžukić was spotted in Milan for a physical this weekend and was officially introduced Tuesday. AC Milan are picking up Mandzo on a free transfer since he is not currently contracted with another club. The deal is for the rest of the season with an option to extend a full year if AC Milan clinch a Champions League berth.
That should be a foregone conclusion as AC Milan currently sit top of the Serie A table and are 10 points clear of a CL spot; halfway through the season.
Milan won 2-0 Monday night with 39 year-old Zlatan Ibrahimović scoring both goals; one from the spot. Mandzo is expected to come off the bench for Zlatan and add some depth to the striker position. When Zlatan was out with an injury in December, Ante Rebić played the lone striker role and it did not look pretty. Rebić would always drift to the sideline where he likes to be in his natural position. Milan needed a true striker. Insert Mario at 34 years old.
Mandžukić will wear the #9 shirt at AC Milan, which has been cursed at the club since Filippo “Pippo” Inzaghi last wore the jersey in 2012, Sportsadda reports.
Will Mandžukić break the curse with a successful season?
Is it possible he returns to the Vatreni for EURO 2021 if he gets back to form?
The next few months will be extremely interesting with Super Mario under the microscope.
Yea, but I like it because of the obvious fact that Croats turned Milan around.
.
That team was left for dead, and Boban, Rebic, and (half-Croat) Ibrahimovic was all it took to turn it around. Add in Mandzo, and they probably win the Scudetto.
Two of these guys are retirees too.
I wish Mario the best, but really not concerned with what he does on the pitch. He’s not in the NT fold. Nor would I want him to come out of retirement at 35 to play in the Euro. Would be cool to see him win with Milan.

@ Maminjo
Gazidis = govno
Boban vision manifest.
I didn’t think this would happen but I’m shocked. I was never a fan of Mandzo until he stepped up in Russia scoring three goals and one assist. Now that he’s back at top tier clubs and Milan that has dominated, I’m glad. He’ll be a sub but productivity wise. How much can he add? He’s going to be 35 this year. Benefit of the doubt he’ll net between 8-5 goals.
Every Croatian kid in the 90s grew up a Milan fan.
.
Milan is stupid for not taking advantage of this. They pretty much had Modric in the bag (if it wasn’t for Gazidis being an idiot with his AC Arsenal dream).
.
They could probably easily snag any one of Perisic, Vrsaljko, or any one of our vets for way below their value (and shore up the quality of that team). They probably could have gotten some of the young talents too in players like Vlasic, Brekalo and Gvardiol.
.
Rakitic and Modric were both very attainable and would have gotten them the Scudetto for sure.
Rebic and Ibra are the reason they are tops in the league. Take away either of those guys, and this team is back in 6th place (or worse).
I love Mandza’s reaction when Pivaric’s crappy cross is cut out. Drops his head and you know he is thinking “jebi ga”. Four seconds later and it’s in the back of the net!
svaka cast, Mario. I can watch the winner against England in the semi of 2018 over and over- he’s a sniper and can do it again and again. if he played in Euro 2021 he would be good for a goal against England- he just loves scoring against those guys.
We’ll never know but the guy is a beauty- right mix of fire and ice. budi sretan Mario
Krama with a brace today .
AC Milan play Juve in May. It would be great to see Mario and company destroy Juve but even worse than Bayern / Barca. Milan lost the last game to Juve only because the pitch was missing players whose names end in “ic” due to injuries.
After that I look forward to seeing Zlatan and company obliterate Man city in CL.
Milan should bring Perisic. He has the best left foot in the world. Conte has his left thumb up his ass.
I’m not sure whether to be extremely happy or to worry? soo much pressure to perform now and he’s been out of top quality soccer for a helluva long time. everything tends to slowly disappear from timing to conditioning, game form, tempo and just knowing how your team plays from a strategic level.
.
I really don’t have high expectations for him at this stage but I do hope he has some impact at the club. where is he gonna play? Ibra’s sub?
.
Good luck to Mario!!
“Now there are two of us to scare opponents!” – Ibrahimovic thrilled with AC Milan’s Mandzukic move.
This is the best transfer news in a long time!
Can’t wait to see Mario on the pitch again. Hopefully he finds his form quickly…he has several months to plot his revenge against Juve.
All Croatians Milan!!
Must watch tv now with AC Milan.
I hope he goes on a tear and is called up for the Euro.
He has 4 months to get back to beast mode.
He will not be overused by Pioli.
He makes everyone better.
All the best Mario
I am sure you will do a stellar job
