Luka Modrić, Mateo Kovačić and Joško Gvardiol are all through to the Champions League quarterfinals after Wednesday night’s matches. Real Madrid defeated RB Leipzig 2-1 on aggregate. Manchester City defeated Copenhagen 6-2 on aggregate. The quarterfinal draw will take place March 15th.
Both Kovačić and Gvardiol got the start for Manchester City. Kova received a 7/10 grade from 90min.com as he “Kept the ball away from the visitors to prevent them building a real head of steam and also effective in winning it back.” Gvardiol got a 6/10 grade as he “Didn’t face much in the way of wide threats.”
Modrić came off the bench for Real Madrid in the 78th minute of their 1-1 draw against RB Leipzig. ManagingMadrid.com gave him a 6/10 rating as he “Replaced Toni Kroos after his yellow card from fouling Xavi Simons. Provided quick combinations with teammates.” However, Modrić deserved a bit better as he upped the tempo in the final 15 minutes as Leipzig looked to force the game into extra time.
