One month. It all begins in one month…
…until we see our Vatreni open up the World Cup against 5-time champions Brazil. Until we hear Lijepa Naša heard by hundreds of millions of people around the world. Until we see what a stacked team of Modrić, Mandžukić, Rakitić, Lovren, Kovačić and Olić can do against the best teams in the world.
June 12th is the day.
And it’s finally time to see what damage Niko Kovač and company can do in South America.

Official 30 man provisional squad announced by the Savez
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BnlNJukIAAA4lxO.jpg
Molim te, not another person giving stupid nicknames to players.
@ CvA agreed on Milic as a cover for the LB position, we need Pranja as far away from the defence as humanly possible, that is if he is indeed part of the squad.
We still have to see if he is a man of his word, or just simply had the sooks cos Stimac put him out to pasture (about the only smart move he made) cos he killed us in the wc10 qualifying, Walcott and others made him their bitch. He made the claim that a cro squad with not damir in it is not one he wants to play for, so therefore he retired from international duties. Now we have a scenario where they are both in the extended squad will Pranja be a man of his word or just prove he had a case of the sooks?
Either way for mine not damir doesnt even get a whiff of playing in brazil he shouldnt even be in the extended squad. I hope Pranja makes a big statement and says thanks for the invite but as i previously stated i cant be in a cro squad with not damir, i suspect he will do nothing of the sort. If thats the case Niko should dump them both, one for not earning the spot and the other for being full of shit.
What do you guys think?
When you see players like Kaka, Nasri and Isco not being able to earn World Cup spots, it makes you think how our small country is even able to compete with the larger. All three would easily start for Croatia.
@NK Susak……wrong. Nobody cares to hear from Suspension Joey about today’s game. All anyone wants to hear from him is about the ruling. Opportunity lost because the reporter rather be a jock sniffer and not someone who wants to ask the hard questions the public wants to hear.
@ Rijecanin
Love the taro card comment lol…so very true. Men admit to their mistakes, boys don’t know the difference.
I for one can’t believe that both Sammir and Pranjic both were named to the 30 man roster. Sammir should have never been considered but that’s in the past. Hopefully it doesn’t start to create any rifts in the team…could be a huge mistake by NK. Regardless, I don’t think there is any way he actually makes the World Cup roster – I would like to see a few good young players be selected (Rebic,Pasalic) for the experience. I really think Rebic could play a small part off the bench.
^^^ Basically I want to go into the tourney with two natural left backs. The starter Strinic, and the back up Milic. Pranjic is not a good back up.
@ IvicA
I knew you were gonna ask that. Here’s why:
Milic is actually a starter for Rostov and has been solid this season. And he played well in the Russian Cup final, which his team won.
Milic I would take as an alternative at LB to Strinic. And Not Pranjic which I see as a Midfielder. Milic brings something to the table in terms of his position.
While Rebic hasn’t played, and we already have players that can play in his position (forward or winger). So, I would take a legit cover-player like Milic.
@Croatia vs. Antwerp
I can understand cutting the redundant Kranjcar…but are you really going to go with Hrvoje Milic over Rebic?
it’s actually a 32-man squad. 🙂
Good to see Pasalic and Brozovic on there. I wanted these guys on there for a while. They’ll both probably going to get cut though, even though Brozovic would probably be more useful to us than Kranjcar.
Benko, Cop, Mocinic, Pasalic, Milic, Bubnjic, Brozovic and Sammir are pretty much guaranteed to be cut for the 23-man squad. They are not regulars, and are unlikely to be kept on.
There is still one spot left to be cut, and it will probably be one of Rebic, Vrsaljko, Ilicevic, Vida, or Kranjcar.
hope to see petric anyone else
Pletikosa
Srna, Strinić, Pranjić, Lovren
Schildenfeld,
Modrić, Rakitić
Mandžukić, Olić, Perišić, sub/Eduardo, kranjacar
I concur, that 30-man provisional squad seems right. Now if you’ll allow me to separate the Wheat from the Chafe…Here is my 23 man selection!
Vratari – Pletikosa, Subašić, Zelenika
Braniči – Srna, Vrsaljko, Strinić, Pranjić, Ćorluka, Lovren, Schildenfeld, Vida,
Vezni – Modrić, Rakitić, Kovačić, Vukojević, Badelj, Milić
Napadači – Mandžukić, Jelavić, Olić, Perišić, Eduardo, Iličević
seems about right. interesting kalinic can’t even get a 30 man squad call up when he was actually starting games at points in the qualifying campaign!
So what does everyone think about the 30-man list?
Vratari – Pletikosa, Subašić, Zelenika
Braniči – Srna, Vrsaljko, Strinić, Pranjić, Ćorluka, Lovren, Schildenfeld, Vida, Bubnjić,
Vezni – Modrić, Rakitić, Kovačić, Kranjčar, Brozović, Vukojević, Badelj, Sammir, Močinić, Pašalić, Milić
Napadači – Mandžukić, Jelavić, Olić, Perišić, Eduardo, Rebić, Čop, Benko, Iličević
@Ziva:
I know its hard to believe, but not everyone is a low life jerk off like you. Why make a bad situation worse? What that reporter did is called being a professional and taking pride in being a Hrvatica. Youre a pro at being a dickhead and take pride in living a basement….sorry. i mean fortified basement. Grow up you fucking idiot.
Ziva was wrong about Halilovic and he is pregnant. What a day. Wow.
whens croatia 30 men coming out 2moro?
I feel some of you have been a little harsh on my son about his apparent error on Halilovic being included in the squad.I do agree however that he should learn a little humility, this would save a great deal of critcism.Personally,I was far more critical of him about the silly Modric “bust “comments.Ziva is working on his people skills.
-FYI for all,so you know how Ziva gets some of this stuff-
-“Savez Guy”is actually the nickname for a dart board in the basement.
-It has notes pinned to it which can say Modric is bust or not bust.Other notes can say Halilovic will be in squad,he will not be in squad.
-Ziva and Bobo the trained basement monkey take turns throwing darts to see what note they will land on.
-Dont be so harsh folks, darts can land anywhere, especially when a ape throws them.On the other hand,Bobo is pretty good with his aim. 🙂
Congrats to Rijeka !!!
@Rijecanin
Tell him he has a very catchy name, and he was very dreamy looking during his Rijeka days.
How did he lose that beautiful head of hair?
Life is cruel I tells ya.
Ivica, Mladen Mladenovic is my cousin. He made his career playing on the cement streets of Rijeka bloodying his knees every chance he could.

@ARMADA
Agić & Balaban not being ethnic Croats proves the point even further!
I like Tomečak, but he’s from Zagreb. I had high hopes for Sluga, but he’s looking like a dud. That Austrian-Croat kid, Marić, is looking like a potential future goaltender instead.
I don’t think any of these guys will be much impact, but of Volpi invests in the youth academy, then they should see results soon enough (since Cro is a goldmine for football talent).
@ Ivica
funny, Balaban and Agic aren’t ethnic Hrvati
Dude, if Rijeka stay on their current course – we are bound to send some players to the NT in the coming years and have them play some type of role. Mocinic, Datkovic, Tomecak, Sluga and Culina all have shots I feel.
@ Nepoznat
Abbiamo avuto un anno fantastico… ma dobbiamo diventare piu coerenti, giocare ben in Europa e produrre giovani talenti
razumijem? 😉
@ Ante B.
Hvala co!
CSR crew – hope we have a Croatian Cup wrap-up post and talk about the fantastic year my beloved Rijeka had… I know all you guys are Hajduk supporters… but you can join in the Rijeka love fest at least for one thread 😉
SAMI PROTIV SVIHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
@ hawk
it’s mixed.
the backline: definitely not the fastest, especially with corluka. lovren brings some more athleticism to the central db role
midfields: modric, perisic, and kovacic have decent enough pace. rakitic less so
forwards: both olic and mandzukic have decent pace. although they probably woudn’t be confused for track stars. which i think is the general theme of the team. speed is ok. not terrible. not incredible
Kvarner > *
general question. is croatia a really slow team?
Hopefully Danijela Volpi was serious when he said he would increase Rijeka’s operating budget. Hopefully that means investment in Rijeka’s youth Academy, and not just some two-bit foreign talent like what Dinamo is doing.
I can’t recall any good players coming from the Istra & Kvarner region. Pamić, Balaban, Mladenović, Jasmin Agić… Ugggh.
ARMADA, you’re not allowed to watch anymore Cro national team matches until your boys start to pull their own weight.
Epic fail by HRT. Questions that could have been asked of Suspension Joey, but were not by the HRT reporter:
a. How do you feel about losing the hearing?
b. Does it disturb you that you can’t even go to the stadiums in Brazil to watch our games? FIFA is treating you no bettter than a serb.
c. Does it disgust you with the amount of self-hating hrvati in Hrvatska?
d. Has it been hard living the “za dom…..spremni” lifestyle over the last 6 months?
e. I guess the one positive is not having to share any common areas with Corluka in Brazil and worry about picking up an STD.
f. Drazen Petrovic in his grave and Niko Kranjcar on the goal line, who wins the race to midfield first?
These all could have asked, but were not.
Man, the sideline reporter HRT had for today’s game is a complete idiot. She asked one question about the game to Suspension Joey and no follow up question. No follow up about his suspension beign upheld, how he feels, if he would say it again, etc…….Big failure by the reporter or her producer not allowing her to ask those question.
That was the only reason I watched this game.
Ante B please speak Italiano we don’t know what you are saying! 😉
Cestitke Rijecanima i Armadi na pobjedi!
Will Suspension Joey take the microphone after the game and yell out “za dom”.
Fiume up 2-0 now with like 10 min to go, they look at least 1 class better than Dinamo today
Reading reports that Damir is on 30 man roster
@ IvicA
Holland’s best mid Kevin Strootman is missing the WC as well. Let’s hope our boys stay healthy!
For you guys watching the game, have the BBB started fighting each other? They separated them already. The real BBB on one side and Mamic’s paid fans on the other.
hvala Denis for the working link!
@Armada Fiume ha avuto un anno di successo di sicuro! L’anno prossimo ancora più 😉
DI SI?!!??!?
SHAME!!!
DOOFUST!
BOG!

“KUP JE NAS”
2013-14 Cup, 2nd Place (2nd straight season finishing better than Hajduk), Nice run in this years EL, another season of EL next year
how does that sound to you? what are your thoughts on Rijeka’s season?
Whoa. I didn’t realize Chile’s best player, Arturo Vidal, will likely be missing the World Cup.
That’s a huge blow to them.

Ziva
You were wrong, You are either pregnant or you are not.
Circumstances have nothing to do with it. Just because your research, informants, tarot cards are wrong, it does not excuse you from your statements. Part of growing up is to take responsibility for your actions and to stop making excuses.
GOAL! Forza Fiume 😀
@Sude Mi hvala! that was a good read about Bosna
Right….at that point I did not realize that was no longer the case. I didn’t think the barca move had an impact on that. Byt, after the Barca move mamic relented.
So, if you are scoring at home, I was correct.
@Živa
You said that Niko was told to call Halilović up, DESPITE already being sold to Barcelona.
You were dead wrong.
ivica so true poland vs germany tie or germany wins
@Croatia vs Antwerp
I would love to play the Netherlands, but I think they’ll struggle in this World Cup. I would be surprised to see them top such a tough group. There’s a good chance they don’t see the 2nd round.
Their once dominant midfield, seems to be on a decline. Wesley Sneijder is good, but not what he used to be. Strootman is good too… But these two are not as good as Modrić & Rakitić.
De Jong is a solid DM, but was sold off for peanuts to AC Milan (which is a team of misfits). Van Der Vaart just had his team relegated.
Holland’s forwards are better with Van Persie, Huntelaar, and Robben… But Van Persie had a poor season (relatively speaking) and Huntelaar was out for half the year. Robben is still Robben, but that can be both good and bad.
They finished last in their group at Euro 2012, and maybe they’ll do better this time around (they’re still an excellent team). But mediocre seasons from key players, plus a really tough group makes it likely they won’t finish first.
I’d love to play them though. It would be an awesome match.
Rijeka-Dinamo 2nd leg of the Cup Final for those who were wondering
http://sportlemon.org/
Has whatever you need
He’s not going. Mamic’s only goal was to sell Halilovic. Now, that he sold him, he has no incentive for him to play on the repka.
I wasn’t wrong. When I wrote what I wrote, I was correct. Circumstances changed. The kid got sold and Mamic no longer had a reason for him to be included on the repka.
I stand by my remarks that Kovac was told he had to include Halilovic. This was told directly to him and it was a condition on him being hired back in late October.
I wouldn’t lay into Ziva too much. Not yet at least. Wait until the final list is offically announced.
If for some reason he does still end up getting included, and you think Corluka’s STD, Niko’s Big Mac comments are annoying and overused? Just wait for this. You’ll never hear the end of I told you so.
Ziva what does your contact have to say now? You make it seem like you’re close with someone. Call them up and ask.
croatia beats brazil or tie they ill beat holland or chile or spain then face england or italy which they will beat fianls baby
Anyone know of a stream for the Cup Final about to kick off?
Give me Spain if we make the second round. Eventually they will have to fall and why not at this WC. Plus, it creates a greater shock value by being the team to knock them out.
ratickic n modric should shine vs brazil tie or win BABY
@ Ziva
Always blaming circumstances. What circumstances changed when Kovacic was made to start against Serbia?
You forcefully told everyone on here there is a zero percent chance that Kovacic plays in that game.
I’m not against people making bold statements, you also once said “when Croatia go 2-0 down to Spain…”, but when they don’t come true have some humility.
http://roadsandkingdoms.com/2014/bosnia-divided/
Story on B&H…..
@ JM
I saw Kova’s scintillating display vs. Lazio on BeIn. And I must say his aggression to take on players, as well as his acceleration with the ball is reminiscent of a young Diego Maradona….
@ Ernest and IvicA
I don’t ever recall our players playing this well in the build up to a major tourney. No guarantee that it continues for Repka. But it does bode well.
If we make the Round of 16, you never know, we can get lucky and draw Chile/Holland instead of Spain (please, please let this happen).
True, the 98 team had a much easier path once we qualified. Maybe the easiest group ever with three first-time participants. Then a decent Romania side where an Asanovic dive in the box got us a PK call. So, next time someone brings up a nonsensical argument about the refs being anti-hrvati. Just look at that PK call.
Then again, a successful side takes advantage of its situation.
I’m not wrong…..the circumstances changed. If Halilovic was not sold to Barca, he would be on the roster. That I am convinced because the person who was in on the conversations with Mamic and Kovac said so.
But, you are correct. When the Barca move was first announced I didn’t think it would change the situation. But, apparently it did.
The circumstances changed………..No different that a man and women about to get married and then the man finding out the bitch slept with his friend. At that point, no wedding. Why????? the circumstances changed.
@Ernest
We’re gonna need that good form.
We have it pretty bad this World Cup, having to play Brazil in Brazil in the opening game, and (if we make it out of the group) we likely play defending champion Spain.
If we pull off the major upset, we follow it up with having to play the winner of the Uruguay/Italy/England group in the quarters, then likely Argentina in the semis, and Brazil again in the Final.
Our France 98 team didn’t have to deal with this, lol
correcton that video is from a year ago but still pretty awesome
2 of the assists were gross lol and the 3rd one really wasnt one but he was awesome.
on another note, here are the kovacic highlights from the lazio game, not even including the three assists. it’s pretty awesome how he is just attacking off the dribble non-stop (sometimes not always with success). any one seen a cro player so aggressivley take on defenses in the middle of the field like this any time recently?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WK5LGC8amr8
@Živa
You were convinced that Halilović would receive a World Cup roster spot, and you constantly alluded to Kovač being under Mamić’s influence with this so called agreement that was in place (which didn’t make any sense since Halilović was sold to Barcelona).
Then, when I told YOU that the circumstances changed as a result of the Barca move, you said it didn’t matter and that he would be called up as a result of the original agreement.
Now you’re argument for being wrong is that the circumstances changed?…even though you refuted these new circumstances as having any effect on the agreement in the last thread that this was discussed?
Dude, just admit that you were wrong.
if guys like Coric, Kovacic, Jedvaj, Radosevic, Pasalic, Halilovic, and others stayed in the HNL at least until 19-20, the HNL would be a pleasure to watch – but as many have mentioned, money is the main bargaining chip and most of our clubs either pay crap or even have trouble playing their players.
Now that we are in the EU, I think 16-17 will be the standard age most of our top youngsters are poached by Italy, Germany and Spain…
It sure helps. But, there will be a month layoff for most of our players between their last game for their club sides and our match with Brazil.
Main thing is that everyone show up to camp healthy and stays healthy.
I think we will have two players who show up late. Modric and Kranjcar, as both teams have big games on May 24. Modric in the CL final and Kranjcar in the playoff for promotion to the EPL. I think everyone else will be in camp by that time.
Does anyone remember the club form of our top players ever being this good going into a major tourney? I dont but it just might be my memory failing me. It doesnt necessarily translate but form is huge when youre talking about needing quick results.
Kova was european player of the week with 3 assists. I really wish he had gone to BVB but the Inter thing might work to our advantage as he has had to work on his defensive skill and work rate. As far as talent, he is the best I have seen in some 15 years with the ball at his feet and taking on defenders as far as our guys go at least.
I remember seeing on TV in Croatia since my family and I hadnt left yet. Shortly after that we moved to Austria.
@Ante B…..I only remember reading about it initially and the coverage was mostly an overview. More along the lines of soccer hooliganism taking place in potentially explosive Yugoslavia.
The old SCOLA program……….LOL
Coric to Milan? Why not.
The kids no longer grow up dreaming about playing for Dinamo and Hajduk. Those clubs are stepping stones for bigger clubs and bigger paychecks. Its how many of them think and its how many of their parents/agents/managers think.
This should come as no surprise and expect more of it. When Cro entered the EU, that opened up more opportunities for our younger talents.
In a perfect world, players like Jedvaj, Radosevic, Pasalic, Halilovic, and others would never leave Dinamo or Hajduk so young and without any of them even playing 50 officials games for their club. But, money talks.
Ziva,
Good question. It had to be the TDK VHS cassette express from Cro to USA every couple of months. To be honest, I don’t remember hearing about it first but then when I watched it, it was quite a moment. This was back even before the old SCOLA days where HRT was available. Anybody remember that?
@Dalmo Ante……yes, I did. Because I still thought it was going to happen. But, circumstances change. The Barca deal had more influence on that decision that I thought it would. Again, circumstances change. I still stand by what I was told in November 2013; one of the conditions for Kovac taking the job was to include Halilovic on the roster. This was before the Barca deal. See, circumstances change. Which means my opinion on the topic now also changes.
please no more italy transfers

Good sh1t* even
@ Ziva to be fair you did claim it beyond the barca deal so clearly you need a new mole in the Savez. Ali uvik imaš neki izlaz, ne smrdi nego se pas posra? 😀
For some reason one of my post was not approved but here goes
@ Ante (Zivas step dad) could you please raise the young lads weekly allowance so he can buy his guy in the Savez some listening devices. Beyond helping to strengthen your relationship with the basement dwelling lad it would be a great asset for this site, live audio from HNS HQ beside the occasional bout of explosive diarrhea im sure we would get some other goos sh1t to report first on this site 😀
The last lline in the Holiga column says it all…………….. Dovoljno govori činjenica da nijedan političar niti javni dužnosnik nije Šimuniću javno pružio podršku nakon ispada na Maksimiru.
Not only that, but none of his teammates came to his rescue and the federation he represents didn’t do anything to help his cause. It was a losing battle. I wonder if the lawyer he used for the appeals process did it gratis or if he was paid. Because, this dude was stealing money from Suspension Joe.
For those of you who remember the Boban kick, when did you find out about it? This was in the days on no internet and not much soccer coverage in the US/Canada. I remember reading about it the following day in one of the national publications; it was either the NY Times or USA Today. I didn’t realize the severity of it until seeing the video much, much later.
I dont drink purger beer, karlo only
geez 24 years now? I’m getting old as hell

Mamic was calling the shots prior to the Barca sale. Once Barca came in, Mamic no longer controlled the future of the kid.
Circumstances change……when I said it, that was the plan for Halilovic. He was sold to Barca and plans changed. At the end of the day, he is not going, which makes me happy.
wow… ziva wrong yet again… how many times ziva did you make those halilovic will definitely be on the roster comments? if you’re going to repeat something 100 times, please try not to be dead wrong.
maybe i’ll just post over and over again on this chat the sky is green, the earth is flat, and ziva knows what he’s talking about. and we’ll see how you like listening to total inaccuracies
And no shock on Perica.
@chicago……what is there to discuss. He said what he said. It was a heartfelt, but selfish moment. End of the road for him.
@dalmo Ante…….I was told that when Kovac got the job Mamic in no uncertain terms said Halilovic must be on the roster should we qualify and Kovac accepted those terms. Now, what has taken place since then……Barca purchased Halilovic. Now, I don’t know what the situation is since Mamic got what he wanted with the sale to Barca. Circumstances change, but at the time Kovac was hired, Halilovic was forced on him. And this info comes from the highest source as it relates to Mamic and Halilovic. At he end of the day I hope the little bosandzero doesn’t make the roster, he doesn’t deserve a spot.
Ivan Rakitic Destined For Key World Cup Role:

@Dalmo Ante-My info to ziva cant always be good.Sometimes I get called away to clean the toilets. You dont want to go in there afetr Mamic has taken a dump.Peeewww!
@Ziva, you told us Halilovic was a lock even after the barca deal, i think your source is pulling your leg 😀
Sammir selection is a joke, though i like that both Pranja and Sammir are selected, if Pranja is true to his word he will say he can not play due to Sammir’s selection. If he doesn’t make a statement he was full of shit and Kovac should really drop them both because neither are deserving of the Checkers.
@ Soul Champ our fellow Zadranin Perica didn’t even get a look in, surely a spot in the 30 for an up and coming striker could’ve gone to him in favor of Benko, Sammir, Cop even Ilicevic?

You have got to be kidding me – look at who they are saying is on the 30 man list – he’s high fiving Cop in the picture – ah za svetu fumu, for fuck’s sake. I hope it’s only because they need another translator/tour guide.
guess that’s the only way Mandzo scores against brasil 🙂
i haven’t embraced twitter yet, but look me up at my twitter handle and i will get back to you
Which of the three has Ziva mentioned the most?
a) Corluka – STD’s
b) Kranjcar – Big Mac’s
c) Twitter – Fully embrace
d) Lifestyle – Za Dom Spremni
Repeats things so much. I think he’s flying a kite without a string.
June 2nd is the deadline
Why isn’t anyone talking about the topic of the day? Simunic
when is niko kovac going to announce the world cup squad?
@dannyj-Kais is good, but I have spouted in recent days that I will give the lad more space and overall encouragement.
-While it is in fact true that the above goal may be the only one that we score against Brazil,I am going to allow him to freely express himself as long as he keeps it a little balanced. Its mainly when he talks about his sense of humour that I cringe and worry about him as his dad.
-I need to give him space ,but Antes firm but fair guidance will be there if needed.
-For now,its a month and counting……………
Ziva step dad, get the kais out beat your son everytime he is negative…
^^^^^You already said that before.Use something new so that people dont think its Bobo the trained basement monkey always putting your stuff up.
That may be the only way we score against Brazil.
Pan Zlatni is better
-To those of you who clicked on the English version, your parents have failed you. 😉
-To those of you who still lack a pulse and your heart is not thumping, hand in your checkers. This includes Donovan jerseys and posters as well as bobble head collections.
-To those who are pumped, drink beer, drink Ozujsko!
