Petar Musa came off the bench in the 84th minute for Benfica Monday night. In injury time, he headed home a perfect cross to score against his former Portugeuese club, Boavista, to seal a 3-1 victory for the league leaders. Benfica currently sit top of Portugal with a 5-point lead on 2nd place FC Porto with 13 matches remaining.
With Croatia still thin up top in the #9 role, performances like these will be put under a microscope for Dalić going into Euro qualifiers and Nations League in June.
Musa has earned his chance to be on the national team! We need strikers for Gods sake and it’s his time! It’s as simple as that. Can’t wait for his first header goal in checkers!! Really could of used him at the
World Cup.
Modric with an exceptional game today for Real Madrid. He just doesn’t get old.
Hard to imagine he wouldn’t have outworked both livaja and petko at the WC
It’s not like he sucks and tries hard
Or he is talented and Walks around
He is above average and has a good work rate
I feel this can equal success
We don’t need a world beater. Mandzo wasn’t that either but he was a warrior.
If we can get close to a mandzo type for euro cup and if we can hopefully livakovic to go God mode again
Then We can very well have some hardware. Obviously a good shot in nations league as well
Musa’s goal’s to minutes strike ratio is exceptional this year. And given Benifica’s push on multiple fronts (Champions League and Portuguese League), Musa certainly makes a case for more minutes, enabling the starter Ramos to get rest.
Very soon, Benifica will cash in on Ramos, the league leading scorer, they can take comfort knowing they have Musa to take his place.
Musa’s big target man style of play fits in nicely with our possession based football, in which we probe the opposition. All we need is someone to get on the end of one of one of our forward Thrusts. And Musa looks to be that man, as Maminjo mentions an improved version of Budimir.
And when you consider Croatia of having the luxury of having phenomenal crossers such as Persic, Sosa, and JJ…and pass masters Modric, Brozovic, and Gvardiol. Sosa fits in nicely and warrants a callup.
Yea I am curious to see what comes of the Gonçalo Ramos situation.
Benfica is looking like they’ll make a deep run into Champions League.
Possibly semifinals or even the finals.
Ramos is known as the kid who usurped Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal’s starting spot on the National Team, and the kid keeps scoring at a high clip for both club and country. With the recent World Cup exposure and possible Champions League exposure (assuming Benfica go far) it will be hard for Benfica to turn down the monster offers that will come for Ramos.
Not sure what the release clause is in his contract, but it wouldn’t surprise me if some team just went ahead and triggered it (assuming Benfica don’t want to sell).
It’s nice that he is scoring at a good rate (despite the small sample).
He was a top-10 scorer in the league last season while playing on Boavista, and most of that came in the second half of the season.
His efficiency has somehow increased even more by scoring 5 league goals in the equivalent of 5 games (when looking at minutes). He has the equivalent of 8 goals in 10 games if you factor in his Champions League and Portuguese Cup games too.
I do think his efficiency would drop a lot if he started, but it’s not really the scoring efficiency that I like about him. What I like more about him is the type of goals he scores and his style of play.
He does seem to play like Mandzukic, in that he likes to run a lot and he’s scored some really nice headers. We don’t have guys like that on our National Team right now. Our current crop of first-choice strikers (Livaja, Petkovic, Krama) don’t really run much, and can’t get their heads on anything.
At worst, I see Musa as a better, younger version of Budimir right now.
Also, with guys like Sosa and Juranovic running the flanks and both in great form right now…Musa would probably have a field day with those quality balls coming in for his headers.
By the way .. Musa is scoring for the #1 team in the Portuguese league with Benfica.
Respect.
That league is the truth and produces world class transfers every window.
Love that he earns every minute and seizes opportunity.
We need to start to SEE who the heck can score goals for us?
There is no magic bullet with this process.
A new generation of strikers has to be cultivated by HNS.
Then let’s SEE some explosive wingers.
HNS has a responsibility to evolve the program.
We got defenders following up our conveyor belt of midfielders.
Let’s start producing attackers.
Boksic
Šuker
Boban
Prosinečki
Mandžukić
Olić
Rapajić
Prso
Ibrahimović – Mother is from Zadar
The above talent level is what we are talking about.
Musa
Ljubičić
Šimić
Need a look.
A new generation has to be supported.
Not. The. Answer. To. Our. Woes. Please stop with the Musa stuff.
Just accept the God of Musa, my son.
Well, If I have to I have to, but I don’t like it
What’s wrong with Musa? He scores a lot of goals in little time…
He now has the highest scoring frequency in the Portuguese league now coming off the bench. Hopefully both Schmidt and Dalic see this and give him a run of games now at both club and country level.
Musa earns every minute he gets at Benfica.
His time is now to be called up in March.
He is always active around the box and can finish in many ways.
192 cm is an excellent height as well.
