Ivan Perišić scored his first goal since ankle surgery in February Wednesday night in Munich. The Croatian winger got a rare start for Bundesliga champions-elect Bayern Munich in the semifinal round of the German Cup versus Eintracht Frankfurt. Perišić scored the opening goal in the 14th minute as he was left all alone int he middle of the box for a free header. He was taken off in the 61st minute in a 2-1 Bayern victory.
Bayern Munich will noe face Bayer Leverkusen in the German Cup Final July 4th in Berlin. Perišić is on loan at Bayern this season from Inter Milan.
Perišić Goal @ 0:28
@ Stipe – yes re Srna. I think it was Bilic who also converted Pranjic from midfielder to defender if I’m not mistaken.
Perisic needs a good hairdresser.
@ Maminjo
I agree with everything you said about Vrsaljko and Srna. Vrsaljko is a wayyy better defender then Srna.
I don’t remember, but wasn’t Srna originally a midfielder? Then he got moved to RB.
Vrsaljko was dearly missed in these qualifiers, and it showed.
We struggled badly on that right side without him there.
Going further back, he was also the reason we got by Ukraine in that critical away match that we had to win (prior to WC2018 qualification).
Shevchenko wanted his players to attack our weak left side, and Dalic put Vrsaljko there instead to strengthen the defence there. An out-of-position Vrsaljko is still better than most defenders.
A young Vrsaljko also did well at LB when was first used there at WC2014 when Pranjic was out that first game in Brazil.
We don’t even have to go into any details for this past World Cup. Dude was saving goals with his head, and sending in crosses that put Srna’s crosses to SHAME.
Vrsaljko is better than Srna was, running up that right side and sending in dangerous crosses. Srna’s longevity with the National Team and his free kicks will always make people remember him as a better player, but Vrsaljko is more fundamentally sound as a defender and as someone who can send in a proper cross.
Chances per 90mins (or 120 for us) maybe.
Seemed like Modric had more key passes and chances created than anyone on the pitch game after game.
Vrsaljko was huge. Underrated and unsung. Every match he was great.
Perišić created just as many chances as Modrić, and probably more than Rakitić.
Problem is that many of these chances were missed or completely botched (mostly by Rebić) so Perišić doesn’t get recognized for the play.
Not to pick on Rebić (as he creates a lot of chances himself) but if you totaled each players’ goals, assists, and created chances… Perišić is number one on this team.
Perisic is a match winner but guys like Modric and Rakitic truely stir the drink.
Let Rebic destroy what’s left of that once great club and he should go back to Germany for everyone’s sake
Perisic only switches off because he is thinking why doesn’t someone step up and do something
He also tries to bring in others into the play he used to do that with mandz all of the time and Krama does even bother try to link up with him
Rebic tries but he does not have the technical abilities so that’s why he steps up and does it on his own
Perisic is a champion and Our best by far
Rebic is like a young Super-Hero who just learns he has Super powers and is trying to tame them…in the process he gets into trouble…
But once he has mastery over his powers, he will be a force to be reckoned with!
I’m sure Juve’s back line breathed a sigh of relief with Rebic being red carded. They didn’t wanna have to deal with Rebic running at them with the ball…OR pressing them when they had the ball themselves…
He’s a badass player and a force.
And at least the frustrating things with him aren’t things like being soft or not defending.
He also badly missed like 10 golden chances at the World Cup… But scores that very difficult Argentina goal.
It was much harder than it looked, and he cranked it as hard as he could too lol.
But yea, he was on his way to a red card before that goal.
What makes him bad at times also helps make him good. He plays on the edge and can be a liability. Couldve easily been red carded in the first half against Argentina then ends up scoring the winner. Classic Rebic!
Method to his madness …you do foolish, and reckless things for the people who pay your wages and you’re looking for a new employer.
Then again he did something just as stupid against Mexico in the World Cup.
So my weekend got off to a terrible start!
I was looking foward to Rebic tearing it up against Juve. Especially since he would be playing in the lone forward position with Zlatan injured.
And Rebic had to ruin it with a Bruce Lee Impression! He needs to learn to control himself in these high pressure matches.
Terrible foul by Rebic. Who the fuckn flys through the air like that with their boot head height? He looked like he was doing his best Bruce Lee.
Kramaric in at start of second half.
Rebic red card. Didn’t see it.
rebić je jednostavno idiot

Vlasic is a good box-to-box central midfielder, who loves to play behind the attackers.
He won’t score pretty goals, but he always seems to be calm and patient in the opponents’ third, and puts in on target.
We all saw him do this against Slovakia, Wales, and the big goals he scored for CSKA in Champions League. No real beautiful goals, but will score smart ones (and very important ones too!).
Not sure if this is just ‘crazy talk’, but I don’t know if it makes sense to measure ‘clutch’ players. If there was such a thing, I would say that Vlasic is one of those types pf players, who somehow always seems to score the important critical goals.
All of his qualfying goals for us (and goals for CSKA) were in critical matches against higher quality opponents. It’s not like he pumped three goals on Azerbaijan. He score a goal in each of the three most important qualifiers, and they were all critical go-ahead goals or game tying goals. We needed to at least draw Wales in Cardiff, and he comes out and scores it. We couldn’t lose to Slovakia in that last game…then we screwed up and go down a goal, yet he’s the one who levels it up (and started the momentum which resulted in two more goals). I don’t think I even have to mention his game-winner against Real Madrid in the Champions League last year.
It may all just be a coincidence, but if it isn’t, then there something special about that.
I wasn’t sure of his defensive ability, but based off the qualifiers that he’s played for us…it’s pretty solid. He treks back and gets the ball. He’s going to be good if he continues to improve. He’s only 22 and is already offering a lot of what Rakitic offers. I don’t doubt that he will improve mainly due to who his father is. I think he gets stronger, and will become a very important player for us soon.
For the long run, I think Vlasic would work very well with Kovacic and Brozovic behind him.
At its full potential, a Vlasic/Kovacic/Brozo trio would be world class.
Kovacic has been getting a lot better at Chelsea, and I’m hoping this is him taking that next step (which we had all hoped would have happened by now).
He’s already elite in winning the ball and taking care of his defensive duties. He’s also a monster when it comes to maintaining possession. His weakness has always been the opponent’s third, but he’s been improving here (and Vlasic would be the one behind the attackers anyway).
Brozovic is already on another level and should have been starting for us in the central midfield long ago. He was that missing piece for Modric and Rakitic. Yet he’s still young enough to play in a few more tournaments.
Vlasic is still incredibly young, but has improved dramatically over the past few years to the point where we could start him now over Rakitic (and I wouldn’t mind that at all).
We’re in good shape with those three alone, let alone the avalanche of other central midfielders we have coming up the pipeline.
Capello only focused on Croatia.
He knew that if he could win against England’s Boogeyman, then he would win the accolades of every British media outlet and be considered a success.
The reality is that he was very mediocre and expensive.
I knew we were due to lose those.
Also made a few bucks betting on an England/USA draw at that WC.
Didnt expect the Kovac red and the 4-1 score line in Maksimir but I knew we wouldnt do it to them over two qualifying cycles.
You know what I don’t understand ?????
Due to covid i am watching old games.
Surprising that England whopped us twice in WC 2010 qualifiers. First game 4-1 is Zagreb. England finally broke the home friend advantage. We never lost at Maksimir. Then in wembley stadium they beat us 5-0.
Then England in the World Cup, ties USA and tied against Algeria. Like what the fuck??? A team that scored nine goals on us in two games ties USA and Algeria in the World Cup????
That’s why I love this sport, literally any team can win on any given day.
Subasic deserves more props. He was man of the match for me against Denmark and Russia.
Outdueling Schmeichel and Akinfeev is nothing to glance over.
I watched Boksic play weekend after weekend. He definitely was someone you can make highlite reels from but the guy missed far too many chances to score. Stats don’t lie…look up his scoring stats.
Italians loved him and were also disappointed with him. He could do what nobody could do….which included missing the net and hitting the flag-pole on an easy chance. You had to witness the games to understand what I’m saying.
Mandzo not covering Fernandes in the Russia game. Yes he wasn’t 100% he was tired. But i believe that was a mental mistake Mandzo made. He knows what he’s doing, I think he just had a brain fart in that play.
@ Suba
On everyone I love. Boksic is one my favorites as well.
@ Maminjo
I understand why Dalic was subbin out Perišić. Perišić comes back to play defense. I think he helps out Strinic a lot in the World Cup.
I get your points. But Perišić does gas out because he is constantly wanting the ball and going one on one with defenders.
Yeah Maminjo, I agree with that! Perisic has been one of our most important players after the World Cup in 2014 and he has become more consistent. I guess I find it disappointing when he has some downward periods because I feel he has more abilities to change games than anyone else on our team. My hopes are for Rebic to be more consistent going forward but I’m not sure he’s there yet or if he can even get there.
With regards to Modric, I like his work ethic and the amount of field he covers. He’s very smart and does a lot of the smaller details that are important to transition and breaking out. He’s just not the type of lethal midfielder that is really dangerous in the final third of the field in my opinion…although the last few years he’s been better. we’ve been lucky to have Rakitic alongside him and Brozovic has been an unsung hero in my opinion as well! Broz allows Modric and Rakitic some freedom…even Badelj did well for us on many occasions.
My wish list going forward would be for Kovacic to get to that next level where he’s always consistent and is at least getting a 6.5/10. Brozovic is usually consistent and then we need to fill the 3rd piece which seems to be a toss-up! I know many here are high on Vlasic, I’m not there yet. He does score some timely goals which tells me he has one of the essential tools that Modric doesn’t have but I really do wonder how he’s going to be as an overall asset? what are his strengths and how will we be able to utilize him alongside Broz and Kovacic (if he can become consistent)…and tucked in behind Rebic, Krama, Petkovic!?
I do not see that Croatia euro games on my TV. What happened?????? Did the kick Croatia from the Euro????
True…but Perisic was our best player at this World Cup (along with Modric, Rakitic, and Mandzkic).
Dalic constantly subbing out Perisic was his biggest mistake that he was very lucky to not pay for.
You can’t just keep taking your best (and most impactful) player, and expect good things to happen.
Guys like Perisic can turn a game in an instant. So long as he’s not causing you problems by being out there…then you leave him in.
He was heating up in the Russia game too, and cracked the inside of the post and almost scored. Then he was subbed out immediately after. That was such a big mistake by Dalic.
Mandzo was a guy who was completely gassed and was no longer being effective…he couldn’t press anymore, and was unable to jump and cover his man (Fernandes) who ended up scoring the game-tying goal. That goal was Mandzo’s fault for standing right next to Fernandes and not even jumping….but he was spent. He couldn’t even really bend his knees. This is when you can sub out one of your star players…not after they dart past the Russian defense (like Perisic did) and put one off the inside of the post.
Biggest misconception is that our World Cup success was because of Modric (actually, he screwed up quite a few times with his terrible penalties and being partially at fault for the England goal, the first Russia goal, and one of the French goals).
Modric was still awesome, but Perisic was equally awesome (I would even say a bit better). Rakitic and Mandzo were also up there too. We needed to keep these guys playing as much as possible, so long as they weren’t causing us harm from being too gassed or playing poorly defensively.
Perisic is our most lethal player “when his head is on”! I have repeated hundreds of times that “we go as Perisic goes” but with that said, I have seen him have several games where he’s non existent and it usually appears as if he’s mentally not able to get himself going.
Maminjo has mentioned that it frustrated him how Dalic subbed him out of a few games during the 2018 World Cup…and his worry was that Perisic would have been subbed out vs England as well. We, I watched Perisic do very little in some of our games until he got more involved and turned the switch on.
In the game vs England, he really didn’t do well up until the point where he scored…and then we saw a BEAST come alive! When he gets going I feel he is unstoppable and he even toys with his opponents but I just get the impression he needs to be involved more to get him going AND he needs some type of motivation to get the spark going!
I absolutely adore Perisic
My personal favourite Croatian player ever after Alen Boksic
Absolutely transcended
@Spill Champ
Perišić is our best player on the repka. What he did in the World Cup alone makes him a great player.
He loves going one on one with defenders.
That’s my dude right there
Perišić is the goods.
I liked what I saw today.
He was lively and that power header will give him his confidence back.
He seems to be a Franck Ribery type who will play at a high level through his mid 30’s.
At 31 he has 2021 Euro and 2022 World Cup in him.
This will give us three years for the next generation to fill his boots.
Curious to see how things play out for him this summer?
