Rumors are circulating around Croatia that Hajduk Split have put a 7.5 million Kuna per year price tag on current naming rights for Poljud stadium. This is an obvious attempt at bolstering the team bank account but we’re going to have to see if any company takes the bait.
I’m a soccer traditionalist but this move by Hajduk wouldn’t really bother me if it ever went through. They can rename the venue KIKI Stadion for all I care but the Poljud will forever be known as the Poljud in my eyes just as Maksimir would remain the same- until Mamić gets enough power to name the place after himself of course. (Joke: please don’t jump all over me Dinamo supporters.)
I agree with Slaven
"More money for a club has no negatives to the club whatsoever."
I also agree with Ziva istina
"I my dealings in Cro I have found that individuals and organizations will take the time to hear from you if you have something to offer them where they will make a profit or it will at least benefit them."
key words being "something to offer them" and "beneficial". Croatia is living in a superficial materialistic world. Everyone has a $500 cell phone, a $50 T shirt while making $1000 monthly salary. They are only fooling themselves.
All depends on who you are meeting and what they think of you.
I my dealings in Cro I have found that individuals and organizations will take the time to hear from you if you have something to offer them where they will make a profit or it will at least benefit them.
But, as a maority, the country is still stuck with a socialist mentality when it comes to work ethic.
All of you need to remember that business and business ethics in Croatia is horrible. I've had numerous bad experiences dealing with people and Denis has as well on his current trip.
People will avoid meetings and when you finally do set a scheduled meeting they will flake 90% of the time.
Maybe he'll share some of his stories soon.
Amen…Lets just hope that does happen
The club management may be bigger crooks than the post-Tudjman HDZ party but at least some of it will eventually trickle down to get good players. It's a free market and the management know they have to get good players to get even more money.
You ever hear the phrase "adding fuel to the fire." Just because you add money to something, does not mean it will be fixed. What, are you a democrat?
It's true, Hajduk does have more money now and is more stable. But, throwing around money for worthless players does not help the team. The same shit that took place years ago is still going on. The president of the club wants this guy, while another person involved with the club is trying to negotiate a deal with another guy so he can receive a cut of the money. And lets not get started on the juniors program at hajduk and how that has been run.
Why don't you apply for the job then, if you're so clever? Any money is better than none, even if they do mis-manage it, as you like to think. You like to put a negative spin on everything. More money for a club has no negatives to the club whatsoever.
Ok, keep being led by the blind. What has the extra money done so far?? They have signed players that nobody else wants and overpaid them on top of it. Cernat for $500,000 per season is criminal.
They still dont know how to negotiate transfer deals or contracts that work in their favor.
The same lopovi that have run hajduk into the ground in the last decade are still the ones making decisions or have their foot in the door.
What positive is there to say? Extra money for the club means everything positive. Wake up, idiot.
no matter what name its changed to, its always gonna be poljud, even to the team itself
What exactly positive is there to say about hajduk and their performance in the last 5 years, in the last 10 years. they are a joke and the people who have been in charge of the club in the last decade are a joke.
It's not a bad idea really. Hajduk can use the money pretty bad. Sooner or later, all professional sports franchises will get sucked into the corporate name game.
No kidding. He's such a bitch. Nothing personal.
why are you so negative about everything?
Kaltenberg might be the worst tasting beer I have ever tried in my life…
These are all baby steps with the extra marketing dollars. Putting a few extra patches on the Hajduk jersey and some more billboards will help a bit, but none of this is big time that will change the overall performance of Hajduk..
i'm not too concerned that they might change the official name of the stadium. they will get some much needed cash for the naming rights, and everyone will still call it poljud anyway. i would hope that they get a beer company sponsor though. is kaltenberg still brewed in split?
@ DJ DAN,
All 16 teams are currently on the left side of the website. However, once in awhile some of the files/pictures don't load properly. I'm in the process of updating all the teams and their logos for the upcoming season. Good looking out!
Torcida is always going to call it Poljud no one is going to accept a name change but I don't think they would mind but the price tag is too low for the naming rights they aren't going to be able to do much with the additional income they need to ask for more and possibly be bought by a rich tycoon. A couple years ago the Arabs that own Manchester City currntly said they wanted to buy Hajduk for 60 million pounds and make it one of the strongest clubs in the world. They can't make it the greatest as it already is =P. But of course no one was supportive of them owning the team I think it's obvious why but I'm not going into that. I think more sponsorship on the jerseys wouldn't kill the club either as well as a few billboards and ad's inside the stadium they can charge for all of that and I know for a fact Mamic already does both he has yet to sell off the stadium naming rights guess Hajduk beat him to the punch this time around. The more money that flows in the better quality players we can have and eventually a total stadium renovation as well. I guess the top 2 teams in the country have to make progress towards making their own clubs better before the rest can ollow in their footsteps hopefully one day our league becomes strong to a point where we can truely compete for the Champs League and UEFA Cup.
Oh and by the way, Cibalia needs to be added on to the team standings for the Prva HNL on the left margin.
How is $1.5 M pocket change? We're not exactly talking about Man U here. Croatian teams need all the extra money they can get. That being said, I'm not exactly a fan of changing the name. Maybe something along the lines of (company name) Field at Poljud Stadium. Similar to what many baseball teams have done in the US.
7.5 million kuna is pocket change (US$1.5MM) – not worth it for that amount. Besides, it won't happen. A couple of years ago there was talk that the stadium would be renamed after [Barba] Luka Kaliterna, a long-time pioneer, player, and coach in the city of Split and for Hajduk. Nothing became of it, of course.

Wow….who are the geniouses that came up with this idea. Teams have been doing this for years, glad to see the idiots running hajduk have caught up to modern times.
it`s not so bad idea
top clubs like arsenal or hamburher sv also sell name of stadium
Well, as a purger I'd say that you're basically right about Mamić…
Keep it Poljud
