The Mirror is reporting that Heerenveen’s Croatian midfielder, Danijel Pranjić, will be making a summer transfer move to Anfield, home of English giants, Liverpool.
Liverpool and Pranjić’s agent, Soren Lerby, have been in serious negotiations over a contract deal. The preliminary report is that Pranjić will make a move to Liverpool for £8million.
Pranjić has scored 32 goals in 128 appearances for Heerenveen since joining the club in 2005. He would certainly be replacing Xabi Alonso, who is moving to Juventus.
sry thats Rijeka* not rieja
he should go to rieja so he can smoke weed with anus sharbpicka and play the hormonika with kalamjari suli muntari!
i say he moves to nk zadar so he can eat riba and drink vino and not eat those ciganski sarme
ahh interesting post there Andrew.. but i would have to say that pranjic should move to NK Sarajevo where he will thrive and bring the bosnian premier league crown to sarajevo and eat sarme all day aleleleaa Zivili Muslimani~!
Liverpool may be a little too big of a club for Pranjic. Often players who aren’t physically up to the Premier Leagues standards find it hard to break into a top side like Liverpool. A perfect example is Ryan Babel, great player moved from Ajax 2 summers ago to Liverpool. Was a great talent in the Dutch League but never really caught up physically with the Premier League. Now he’s finding it hard to get time in the squad. Not saying Pranjic wouldn’t do well but maybe a smaller club to start off would be best, with a little less pressure to perform. Portsmouth would be suitable because of Kranjcar and it is similar to Herenveen in its support and would make it an easier transition for Danijel.
Good little battle Croatiafan…
However, I hope you caught my “Ahh to dream!!” line at the end of my original comment on Pranjic going to Tottenham; implying that it would never happen.
Good grief Ante, yes we all know that lol Modric is central midfielder, playmaker, but if his position in the line up is left midfielder then that means there is no room for Pranjic. I mean you can’t play Lennon, Palacios, Jenas, Modric and Pranjic in midfield plus two strikers. Spurs formation in 4-4-2 so Modric is therefore competing with Pranjic if he went there. Modric will never play centrally in the premier as he is a poor defensive player and is lost without two workers backing him so basically no matter where he drifts on the pitch he does it from his role as left midfielder. Also he’ll never play off the main striker as he doesn’t score enough. If Pranjic played left back in the Premier he’ll be a joke as well so he won’t take Essou Ekoto’s place. We had Pranjic at left back at Dinamo and we conceded so many goals and had our worse season. This is why Spurs is not a good option for him. Redknapp also will not prioritise Pranjic over Jenas as Jenas is a English player. You know looking after your own and all that. West Ham thats the team for Pranjic. He’s not getting any younger as well so a wasted season could be disastrous for him.
That’s right. Pranjic is a left winger. One of the best I’ve seen. Modric is more in the centre. They work very well together. I’m glad Pranjic is getting the respect he deserves by inking a deal to the premiere league.
@ Croatiafan,
Sure Luka appears on the left flank in Tottenham’s pre-game formation lineup and usually makes his runs only up the left side; but a lot of his play still comes straight up the middle as he then swings the ball to the wings for a cross. He’s kind of a left-central mid.
And I always get the Sharbibis mixed up because Anas was recruited as a striker for the national team. So thank you.
Er Ante, you might wanna check where Modric is playing for Spurs. He’s not in central mid, he’s on the left flank. Palacios and Jenas play in the centre. Also its wrong way around Anas Sharbini is in mid and Ahmad is up front. Ahmad has scored nearly 50 goals in HNL1.
croatiafan,
Pranjic is a midfield winger on the left flank. Modric is an attacking center midfielder. Two different positions.
Luka,
The Mirror is a credible source. I know that there’s a lot of 2008 stories still circulating but something is definitely going on here. I guess we’re just going to have to grow some patience.
alonso to juve is much less certain than you think, there are many teams vying for his signiture including city and real madrid, and how would pranjic replace him, xabi is either a center mid or holding mid, pranjic plays on the wing, and i agree with croatiafan he would do better at a mid-table club
Spurs is a bad idea as Pranjic and Modric would be competing for the same position. Also remember what happened to Mornar and Zivkovic under Redknapp. The stable mid table teams where Pranjic would see football is West Ham, Everton or maybe as replacement for Barry at Villa??? Maybe Fulham might not be worse move either. Regards Spurs though there may be a surprise move for Modric to a major major club.. United, Juve, Bayern, Real spring to mind..
@ Andrew,
The Mirror is reporting that Alonso will be moving to Juve even though other media are reporting that Juventus is just chasing him down like they did last year at this time. Nothing has been 100% confirmed. But it looks like Liverpool is trying to free up some cash to get aston Villa’s Gareth Barry as well. Google ‘Xabi Alonso’ and ‘Juventus’ together and see what comes up. A bunch of 2008 articles come up, but a few 2009 transfers for Alonso to Juve also are generated.
@ NYC Croat and Croatiafan,
I’m going to be pretty obvious here. Of course we all need Pranjic to start and play wherever he goes. But should he get proper PT at Liverpool; it would be a fantastic move for his career playing at the highest level and Champions League. Of course we don’t need another Babic situation.
I would rather Pranjic play like he is now for Heerenveen than play 5 minutes a game for Liverpool. He needs to get out of Holland though. I would love a Premiership move though.
How bout a move to Tottenham? Pranjic move most definitely start alongside Modric and Corluka. Pletikosa has been rumored to move to White heart Lane and Slaven Bilic can join them as coach when his tenure with Croatia ends next year. Then they can change the name to Tottenham Vatrni.
Ahh to dream!!
Nope i don’t think Pranjic to Liverpool will work. Rafa is good at working with top players like Alonso, Gerard, Mascerano and Torres, but he is not good at progressing people’s careers from smaller leagues. I can see Pranjic being used as a utility player as back up to Riera and to fill in at left back just like Aurelio does and i don’t think it’ll work as he’s not a left back and when something doesn’t work Benitez drops people out like Voronin, Babel, Agger, Bellamy, Pennant ..
Wigan and Portsmouth will be relegation threatened next season so that is not a good idea. Kranjcar will be leaving Pompey in the summer for that reason. West Ham that’s the club for Pranjic and i actually think Niko should go there as well. Excellant coach – classy football – decent players to play with – what more does he want. He should sign with them. Pranjic should request it otherwise if he is sold to the highest bidder he’ll go to a big team and sit on there subs bench and become like Marko Babic. I can see why Liverpool and Real Madrid or someone would want him as a bench player, but its no use to Croatia for him to be not playing.
i mean the pranjic is good but i duno about him being a replacement for alonso lol…hopefully he wont be another biscan who sat on the bench for 3 seasons and played in 6 games for liverpool…mb a smaller english club would be best for him.i could see him in portsmouth or wigan..dont get me wrong hes good…but start 11 for liverpool…???? com on
since when is alonso moving to juventus?
