After defeating Novak Djoković and making the 4th Round of the Rome Masters last week, Dino Prižmić won his 1st Round French Open match vs. Michael Zheng comfortably: 6-1, 6-1, 6-3. 20 year-old Prižmić will next take on #28 Brazilian João Fonseca in the 2nd Round.
On the ladies side, Donna Vekić made quick work of French wild card Alice Tubello; winning 6-3, 6-2. Vekić has a tough test in the 2nd Round facing off against 4x Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka. Antonia Ružić came back to defeat qualifier Ashlyn Krueger 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. She has also received a tough opponent in the 2nd Round going against #19 Madison Keys.
Both Marin Čilić and Petra Marčinko lost their 1st Round matches in straight sets.

Prizmic leading ballyhooed Fonseca 2-1 in sets (was up 2-0).
These guys with their fist pumps are making Shapovalov and volleyball players look almost shy.

Pulisic went dead, as well as the rest of the team. Did Modric no favors unfortunately, when he went down. Kind of sad, Modric seemed to be relatively happy there. His career was a good long run.
Will focus on enjoying Modric’s last games and moments this June most likely. Mod-artist in motion.
I hope he attempts his hand in coaching. He really helped Livakovic in 2022. I think he could be a good based on only that some evidence.
Say it aint so, Luka…

Cap as many goalkeepers as possible.
That is a position we can’t compromise on.
We even have a couple Croat keepers in the MLS.
Hopefully Pandur doesn’t get shelled too hard next season.
It might shatter his confidence if Hull’s owners keep a small budget and the team just gets dominated every game, leaving Pandur to face a firing squad every weekend.
The Turks are trying to turn Hull into Turkey’s club (they flew a bunch of Turkish fans in to Wembley to wave Turkish flags and chant Turkish songs)
Acun knows all the richest Turkish families e.g. Ulker, Koc, etc (via his previous executive position at Fene, etc) – rumours they (richest Turkish) want to capitalize and invest in Hull while the opportunity is there
Let’s see – but if they get big $$$ behind them – they will be able to big and pay good wages this window (also their 3 window transfer ban (reduced to 2) is over now)
It’s too early to see how it evolves – but definitely will be interesting to see how it evolves and if the rich Turks put their $$$ where their mouth is

Nico Paz posting a Ghostbusters marshmallow man rendition of Bati
I mean he was a bit of a fattie when he arrived at Como but not this

Don’t read too much into stuff like this.
They’re 22 year old kids just having a good time and clowning around.
I really hope Como bring in some more Croatian talent like Jagušić or Stojković.
I like the way they play and I’m intrigued with the idea of playing with two CAMs like Como sometimes does.
We are a CAM factory, so this would be yet another formation and tactic in our arsenal.
Baturina would be that Left CAM and Jagušić, Stojko or Luka Sučić could easily be Right CAM.
Peter Suċić or Kovačić playing right behind them.
Would be a solid option for life after Modrić.
As long as they don’t bring in Lovro Majer (who wants to also return to Dinamo lol) – PAO have a new Scandi coach – I think Jaga would do well under a Scandi coach (generalization) as they usually value hard work, attitude, dedication and team-first in their players e.g. Bode-Glimt (I don’t mean the immigrations who born there e.g. Isak) and are typically not very skilled – Jaga has all the attributes a Scandi coach would value PLUS he is skilled – on paper it could work very well (but depends obviously who they bring and sell this summer)
Watched the Vekic match and although she won, she was terrible against a poor opponent. So many unforced errors that had she been playing a top 100 player she would have lost. She will need a big improvement if to have any chance of beating Osaka.
Dino Prizmic is in good form and plays well on clay, however Fonseca is a good player and it will be tough. If he was to win? he would most likely come up against Dokovic in the third round.
Ruzic plays Keys and it will depend on how well Keys plays. Keys has the power game, big serve and shots and if she is on Ruzic has no chance.
In regards to Coric he had shoulder surgery late last year and is still recovering.
He stated last year that he was thinking of retirement from tennis. Injuries over the last 5 or 6 years have definitely curtailed his career.
Boban is PISSED at Dalic for not calling up any Dinamo players
His retribution?
Sign 33 y/o Orsic who has failed outside the HNL and Almena as wingers
Instead of identifying and developing young Croatian winger talent to feed into the NT like Saranic
Dumb
Dino Prižmić seems to have the same body built and excellent strength, court speed similar to Novak J, which could be a good omen. Let see what happens. Alcaraz dropping out is definitely a slight opportunity window to the final rounds.
Definitely in the upswing, latest ranking has him in the 60-70 range. If he gets to the quarter or semifinal’s, he might rise to the top 50.
Borna Corić has disappeared on us.
Yeah, forgot about Coric.
Didn’t he have some mental or psychological issues he was dealing with?
Don’t follow that much, not sure about Coric. Seem like he was in the 10 to 20 ranking for a couple of years. Hope Dino keeps rising though.
LOL What?
Coric had no psychological issues.
He had a lot of surgeries and injuries, all of which came at the worst possible times (usually when he was on the upswing and gaining momentum in his career, he was sidelined with surgery or other injuries).
He had knee surgery, shoulder surgery, then he had recurring back, hamstring, and abdominal issues.
He was easily a top-10 caliber player, but every time he climbed just outside that top-10 mark (I think his highest rank was #12) he would then get sidelined for a year with a long rehab.
Maybe Dino body will be more resilient to injury comparatively to Borna. He efforts to date remind me of Borna’s general playing style, which might not be a good omen regarding future wear and tear pounding.
Even Carlo Alcaraz is out for the French and Wimbledon, at a young age, so no one is spared. Clay the slowest of the court surfaces, translates to very long grueling rallies and a test to the body.
Like to see someone break through to be in the top 5 on a regular basis. We have had are fair share of success even to date.
Jannik Sinner is on PEDs and maybe Alcaraz is too.
This era doesn’t have the competition that poor Borna had to deal with, so if Prizmic continues his ascent, we could have another top-10 tennis player in the World.
I agree.
I always thought both Ivanišević, Ancic, Cilic, and Karlovic were handicapped or blessed with too much height for tennis, where the sweet spot height is 6-1″ thru 6’3″.
Our best players to date have been 6’4″ – 6′-10″. A little too hard on the back where the sport is played low to the ground as well as high. Great advantage for serve and volley on faster courts especially grass, but still limiting for good tennis footwork.
Coric and Prizmic are in the height the sweet spot for great footwork, for all surface play.
If you ask Novak mother’s father if he is Croatian or Serbian, he would say me is Croatian even though he lives in an area defined as Serbia.
Djoker too.
Prizmic is in a little tougher battle next round,
Let’s see how he does
Dino taking down Novak in Rome should be a great confidence builder in his belief. Like you said the positive mental side is required.
