Another tournament. Same problem.
After Croatia’s 5-3 loss to Spain in extra time earlier in the week, AC Milan winger Ante Rebić took to Instagram to voice his frustration. In a post he later deleted, Rebić said, “The Croatian national team has been crap for the past 2-3 years.”
Thanks Captain Obvious! But you’re actually on the team and can do something about it. Calling the team crap should be reserved for fans and beat writers of the team ONLY! 🙂
Rebić went into the tournament with a bad attitude (I will go into that in the next week) and came out of EURO 2020 even worse. He had an entitled chip on his shoulder that split the locker room in half and Dalić didn’t have the power to do anything about it this time. A similar blow up occurred between Dalić and striker Nikola Kalinić after the opening match of the 2018 World Cup match against Nigeria. Dalić excused Kalinić from the team for the rest of the tournament. The rest is history. You can’t let one guy’s ego affect the entire team.
Yes, the Vatreni have been crap for the past three years. A blind man could see that. But Rebić was also indirectly referring to Dalić. Dalić lost the locker room a long, long time ago and here we are. Did the Croatian national football team play 100% under Dalić this tournament? Absolutely not!
Rebić went on to criticize former Croatian internationals Vlaović and Prosinečki as well, who were commentators on Croatian TV during EURO, Index reports.
Legendary Croatian manager, Ćiro Blažević, who led the team to a 1998 World Cup bronze finish, said “Rebić would never play for Croatia again” if he was still in charge for changing his cleats mid-match vs. Spain, Net.hr reports.
Dalić isn’t expected to be around much longer even though he is still contracted to be the Croatian coach through the 2022 World Cup. This is what he said about Rebić’s future with the team: “Who am I to close the door of the national team to anyone? I have never closed the door to anyone, nor will I.”
Even though he closed to the door on Nikola Kalinić three years ago.
Rebic was THE WORST player for Croatia and he should STFU. Yes, Dalic but his biggest mistake was continuing to play Rebic.
Rebitch been saying it for about 5 years- Croatia team behind the scene is a crap-show- patronage galore- first Mamic , now these Mamic want to be- time to get a foreign coach with no ties- call the shots based on merit- not on agents, money etc- if Rebic walks – no big deal but Dalic should go with him if they can’t work it out-
Ok that fallout is that rebics future with the national team is at stake
Rebic if he wants to continue with the vatreni would need to explain his performance and attitude in addition to his critique of the team as a whole
And it needs to be all explained to Dalics satisfaction
Rebic obviously is now in a tough spot
I’d say the scape goat is rebic and Dalic is off the hook temporarily I’d say
Interesting times ahead
Watch this space
Hey Ante, you promised us the Marcelo epic bozo-vic scoop after the tournament and we still haven’t gotten any.
I think Rebitch was looking for his high heel stilettos on the sideline.
It’s about time for a foreign coach with a good IQ. The tactics are mediocre. They’re just stupid robots on the field with no discretion. Junior posers with no heart for the sport.
Kvartuc aren’t you the genius for stating 2nd place in the first group would be the best scenario.
Dalic is the problem here. Only a few specific players are. He’s overstayed his role as manager. Dalic has to realize he contributed minimal to the teams success. He’s stubborn on trying new formations and building chemistry. I think that a few vets like Modric stepped in and told Dalic what to do. The guy seems lost. I’d trust Luka on what to do than Dalic. Modric has been coached under the best of the best. Zidane, Mourinho, Redknapp. Where did Dalic coach? The UAE & Saudi league? Get this guy out now. The youngsters deserve better and save then before it’s too late.
Dalic was paid 500,000 Euro per year when he immediately took over in late 2017.
After we qualified, He was extended to Summer of 2020 (after the Euros were originally expected to take place) for a salary of 750,000 Euro.
But when 2020 came (and the Euros were delayed) he was out of contract and he negotiated a salary of 1.5 million Euro!
So he makes 1.5 million Euro per year.
I think the 2.2 million comment is probably someone quoting it in Australian or Canadian dollars here.
Here it is on Dalič Wikipedia page, regarding his current compensation.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zlatko_Dalić
Dalic hasn’t resigned, and appears to have no intention of doing so. I heard he was making 1 million euro a year, and is intent on seeing through his contract to the WC 2022.
Besides he’s midway through the qualifying cycle for WC ’22, and wants to finish what he started.
On the other hand, no sign or indication from HNS that they will fire him. So for now, it appears we are stuck with Dalic.
All knowing Wikipedia says 1.6mm euros per year for dalic salary.
It wouldn’t shock me and it also wouldn’t set the precedent going forward. The hns’s koffers got stuffed by going so far in the World Cup that there was extra cash to go around
It won’t be like that after wc 22 and it definitely isn’t like that now if they fire dalic midstream as they will be back to paying the coach likely the least of any World Cup team coach
I have to put an end to this fake news.
Dalic salary is high but no where near 2.2 million. It is 700,000.
I look forward to the games in September and if he doesn’t adjust goodbye Qatar.
I often like to blame players but regardless it is time for dalic to go
But it’s unlikely by either him or the hns as he is owed 1.6mm euros a year through 2022, which neither dalic wants to give up or the hns wants to just eat
For those hoping for a defensive transition into wc 2022, barring injury you’re not going to see it
Dalic has repeatedly talked about how the team missed lovren and even barisic
As qualifying continues for 22, expect to see those guys start again if healthy
In some ways, it’s not crazy as Croatia does not have rope to experiment as they have a very very real chance of not qualifying for the World Cup
The future for Croatia continues to look like a slightly above average squad with a punchers chance against big teams…nothing more
I didn’t realize his salary extension was that high.
If there is any good news in all this, it’s that we can get a REALLY good coach for that price.
We went from being one of the lowest paying nations at the World Cup 2014, to one of the highest paying ones.
We’ll see if Pletikosa and Kustic are willing to go in that direction at the end of the month.
But even if Dalic stays on (and gets fired after we get bounced in the Round of 16 in Qatar and try to claim that as some success)…
It’s good news that the HNS is finally paying a competitive salary.
Ante Budimir had 11 goals in la liga!
Who can match his size and motor in our squad?
We need to make immediate adjustments for September. And it begins with playing hungry hardworking players.
Who fits that bill:
Budimir
Bradarić
Oršić
Pašalić (attacks the box)
Modrić at 35 cannot be your work horse anymore.
He needs to simply add his magical touch.
Why hasn’t Grbic gotten at least some minutes during all these UNL/friendlies over the last 3 years?
The reality is that Dalić lacks vision and tactical nous.
These managers are squeezing every ounce out of their national team programs in getting ready for the Euros.
Croatia was short changed by the HNS as per usual.
Good news is our talent pool is deep.
Who is going to come in and get us ready for World Cup ‘22?
only if we have got this formation:
_+) Dalic won’t be –>
……..………………..A Budimir………………………….
…Orsic………………Vlasic……………….Perisic…
………….……Kovacic…..Brozovic…………………..
Sosa……..Pogracic…..Caleta C…….Bradaric
………………….……….Grbic……..………….…………….

……………………….A Budimir………………………….
Sosa……….Modric……..Vlasic..……..Perisic
………………Kovacic…..Brozovic………………….
………Gvardiol….Cale Car….Pogracic………
…………………………..Grbic……………………………..
Moving forward
Gvardiol cannot play left back again
Bradaric should have started with Gvardiol starting over vida
Vida was purely a spectator during the Spanish match
Rebic in hindsight should not have started he was not backtracking Azpilicueta to help out Gvardiol
Orsic should start over rebic from now on in the future
We should think about starting grbic especially when he gets his club football career back on track with constant playing time
I thought juranovic was solid but Vrsaljko should have gone in that position instead of Brekalo
I am disappointed that our midfield trio didn’t have more possession
37 per cent possession is not good enough
Modric I’m afraid looked old
I think we need to make plans in getting used to playing without him
Because time is getting nigh
Also we have to try out budimir as our target man
We don’t have any other options right now other than musa and he’s not just yet ready
Overall Luis Enrique outsmarted Dalic in every respect and its those tactical choices that costed us
I know we are smarter in hindsight
But Dalic on 2.2 million salary needs to come up with better decisions
Because of that high salary he won’t resign and we are stuck with him until the World Cup because we can’t afford a severance package
only if we have got this formation:
_+) Dalic won’t be –>
……..………………..A Budimir………………………….
…Orsic………………Vlasic……………….Perisic…
………….……Kovacic…..Brozovic…………………..

Dalic salary is high but no where near 2.2 million. It is 700,000.
What about Bob? Good movie but not great
Why are you denying the truth? You’re changing the subject, ALL honest people can SEE that, yet you still do it, you still lie thru your fucking teeth.
2028 is the next run. It is when the 2 generations will collide for the best. Not before
I can see 2026 being good as well
Boys, we need to forget present , what happens now, we’re 18 months from WC in November 2022. Dalic is done, can we make run at Vlad Petokvic from Swiss, we’re at least away Euro 2o24 before we make our name, most of our kids Sucic and others are 8 years away before we make another run
1) I can’t stand Rebic, especially the way he was just standing around at midfield for the first two games. Having said that, Switzerland played 30 minutes of ET short handed and we can’t get away with a guy stepping off for a minute (even if for a stupid reason)?
2) Many of you think we have this star studded team. We don’t. Outside of Modric and Perisic, who do we have? A bunch of average or below average players. Against Malta, we couldn’t even score until Perisic and Luka had to come in to save the day! The lineups weren’t the problem. We aren’t good enough.
3) Livakovic never makes a huge blunder, but the guy never makes a big save either. Shocked that all of these teams are actually interested in a guy that only makes the saves he has to.
4) Was not a fan of sacking Dalic, but after 3 years of bad soccer, I would be open for the first time to bringing in an outsider.
5) I kept hearing during WC2018 about these good young players that would be coming up in a few years. Where are they? Who are they?
Good points. People kept writing that this team was stacked. It wasn’t. We lost mandzukic, rakitic, and don’t forget subasic, we got older, and who did we bring in? Gvardiol who made so many mistakes it was awful and yet people still think he will be great as if the experiment of bringing him into the team was worthwhile. Absolutely we need a tactician coach for the future.
We’ll be posting articles on our up and coming youngsters. They’re good, but they’re young, don’t expect a completely new team in a matter of a few years.
Geez. Talk about hyperbole.
We have average to below average players? LOL.
We have guys on our bench that been offered 30+ million Euro in a transfer.
So other than Modric and Perisic…you don’t consider Brozovic, Kovacic, Kramaric, Vlasic (or these other guys on our team) as anything other than “average” or “below average”?
Tell that to Man United who are about to beat out Barcelona for a transfer for Brozovic. Tell that to West Ham who had their 35 million Euro offer rejected by Caleta-Car.
Give me a break.
Who are Italy’s stars? Who are Denmark or Czech’s stars?
One of these teams are likely going to the Finals, and their players are average to above average at best.
The coach makes a HUGE difference.
There is plenty of talent on our team to surpass what Italy, Denmark, Czech and Switzerland did at these Euros. Our team definitely has better players than these teams…but these teams definitely have a much more experienced and capable coach than ours.
We all saw the obvious mistakes Dalic made in his lineup and substitutions. If an average Joe can see this, how bad is it that the coach himself took a long time to see it (if at all).
Agreed, this more about maximizing the talent you have. Why do we have so many players that are much better for their club teams than for Croatia? I would say it’s coaching. And I don’t think it’s just Dalic. We’ve never had a world class coach. You have to put players in positions they are comfortable. We have more talented players than most countries. We shouldn’t be content with round of 16. Anything less than quarters of the Euros or WC is a failure. Why can Sweden and Switzerland look better against Spain than us? That shouldn’t happen. They both have better systems. I said this after the Scotland game, that yes they played better, but there are too many openings at the back and better teams would have pounced. And what happens? Five goals against Spain. That is and what is always the problem with Croatia. Our back line is always our weak link. When we can’t control possession, against teams like Spain, we are vulnerable. We need to shore up the back line first. That’s our biggest problem.
Sweden and Switzerland’s players are mediocre, but they aim high.
You don’t see their coach saying that 4 points is their goal, lol.
We were runners up in the previous tournament, and our goal is to lose England and split points with two teams that didn’t qualify for the previous tournament. Can’t approach a tournament with that mindset.
I completely agree with your thought process. We finished second in 2018 (in which we got robbed) and now we are hoping to finish second in a group stage. This menatality has to stop!!!! If we want to associate with the big countries then we have to produce. Go into a tournament with the mindset of winning the tournament.. Not this bullshit we will be happy with a quarter final exit. Fuck that. Win and you get respect. Italy didn’t qualify for the last world cup and they come into this tournament as one of the favorites..why? Because they come in tona tournament with the mentality of winning…not the satisfaction of a round 16 exit. Im tired of hearing this…small country bullshit…blah…blah…blah. We have the talent and the heart..we have to win!!!!
A big part of winning is tactical coaching. You look at Italy’s win over Belgium, Mancini was making subs even though they were in the lead. Our Dalic wouldn’t have made any subs. I really think it’s time for a foreign tactical coach who will be given control and take control of the locker room and rebuild this team for Qatar. Croatia has been painful to watch other than against Scotland and the last 7 minutes of regular time vs. Spain. Never mind recycling Bilic! The HNS needs to start thinking outside the box.
@ Bećar
Well said!!
Bradaric is a live wire at LB and that screamer to qualify for u21 deserves respect.
Gvardiol seems like a stud CB.
But to ask him to guard lightning quick wingers at his size seems like a waste.
Seeing the top teams you can see the core competencies of real tactics.
I really hope that HNS is just waiting for the dust to settle before they let Dalic “resign”. In Russia, he caught lightning in a bottle and ran with it. Svaku mu čast. The past 3 years have been terrible though. The thing is, it was widely accepted that he was never a master of tactics, but rather a motivational type coach. Recent history has reinforced that not only is he no master of tactics, but his dressing room prowess failed dismally. If he can’t classically manage a team and also can’t motivate one, what use is he?
Many here were (and still should be) huge supporters of Gvardiol. Nobody thought that his first ever start for the NT should be at Wembley vs. England in our opening match of a major tournament. What was probably our strongest position (depth wise) became a weakness. Barisic was injured and he fumbled the whole Sosa situation. I don’t completely understand his selection of Gvardiol though. Sure he was playing more regularly than Bradaric, but his selection of Vrsaljko demonstrates that he doesn’t actually care about club form. After Bradaric’s heroics against England for the U21’s, surely he deserved a chance.
Time to go…….. Please………
Dalic won’t resign because he wants to get PAID the rest of his money on his contract.
As honorable as he pretends to be, he’s not.
He will drag this out and go through the motions with our National Team (even though he’s likely lost many of the players) just so he can collect the last year of that contract. He’s just a squatter right now, and he’s knowingly damaging our National Team to collect the rest of his deal.
If he had honor, he would resign, void the rest of his contract, and go coach somewhere else. But he doesn’t have that. He’s proven that he is no better than the HNS.
The HNS are cheap and don’t want to buy out the rest of his contract, so they too, are going to let it ride.
Our only hope is that we get a new HNS President soon (to replace Suker) and he decides to toss the freeloading Dalic out of here, before Dalic makes a mess of our World Cup in Qatar (just so he can collect the few hundred thousand he has left on his deal).
Just sack him now and pay out the rest of his contract
I will chip in
Good luck with that. His current salary is $2,211,600 yearly. He got a hefty raise when he was extended after the World Cup. He’s not going to walk away from that and HNS is not going to pay it then pay another huge sum to hire a replacement.

Epic gear for Epic fail at the Euros!!
Full respect to building your brand and I wish more of our players excelled in that domain to raise our profile.
Coach’s #1 job is to maximize the talent you have to compete to the best of your ability.
Dalic has had epic fail at Euros.
Enough with the doom and gloom. Seriously!
We have a great amount of talent for such a small country! It’s a miracle that we make it to these tournaments at all.
Everyone is saying this was a poor Spain team. Yeah, a pretty poor side that has had 70% possession in each game they’ve played in this tournament (that is no joke).
I personally think Spain will win it all if their strikers start burying just 10% of their chances.
We were basically 4 inches away from beating them (if we score one of those early chances in OT we win that game).
Going forward….we need maximum points in our next 3 qualifiers for the WC.
16 months away!!!
I think this tournament was actually perfect for us in the fact that Dalic got to use a lot of players off the bench. It might (I hope to God) make us more flexible in our team selection.
I think Rebic will bounce back. But I don’t like that these guys take to social media to air their grievances (it makes you look weak and like a cry baby, do your talking on the pitch. When you lose or play poorly don’t start playing the blame game, get back up, dust yourself off and move on like a man).
I would love to see Budimir/Kramaric play up top together. I honestly think these two could become a great pairing, they just need more consistent playing time together. The goals will come!
Everything hinges on those next 3 games.
Ajmo dečki!!!
Napred Hrvati!!!
S’Bogom
I asked this question a week or so ago but.. is there really no way we can get ANYTHING out of Krama for the repka? Like, seriously?
Yeah we had a brutal three years after the World Cup. Our golden generation formed 2016 and lasted 2018. Put it in the past. Just rebuild, refocus and recoup. Look at the football giants
Italy: Missed the 2018 World Cup
Netherlands: Missed 2016-2018 and got far as us this year
England: Semi finals lost to us and round of 16 last euros
Portugal: Two round of 16 exists last few tournaments
Germany: Group stage 2018 and round of 16 loss to England
Nothing to be ashamed of losing to Spain. If Spain wins and makes final then that says something, We’ve beaten them twice, lost 1-0 in 2012 to that golden generation before they clapped Italy in the final. Came back from 3-1. I don’t give a fuck. I’ll always be proud of our boys. We will come back stronger and win. I fucking know it. Believe and let the new generation take over. Perisic still has a few good years left, Modric might stay, lots of youth look promising. I’m excited for Qatar. Only a year and five months away.
only if we have got this formation:
_+) Dalic won’t be –>

It’s not important who is to blame guys, remember that, you were just shit for 3 years, like Rebic said, “We are shit,” him included.
Move on, stop the blame game when it’s obvious you guys couldn’t coach pigs to be dirty.
Hey, what happened to that “huge talent” Antonio Marin that you guys said was going to be a bigtime player, where is he at in his development? Can he go back to the HNL and become a national team player? Last I heard he was at Monza setting the world on fire. I thought you may of found your own Riccardo Orsolini in that guy.
Ok why were we so shit in the last 3 years
No one to blame there
How are the French handling their fallout
We should take note
Playing for monza does not get you a look in I’m afraid
Are you still crying?
Yes
England Italy final is enough for a Croat to commit suicide
Losing 5 3 to a 2nd rate Spanish side would do it or at least suffer from severe depression watching second rate teams making the semis
Should have been us big time
Dropped the ball there Dalic and co
I’d take Italy in that any day. I can’t stand the English. That being said, I hope Spain spanks them both lol.
I am calling BS on this Rebić nonsense.
After a phantom red card ..
Did you see Petković make move after move to put his 10 men side in position to win?
Dalic is not on the level and is actually 3-4 levels below out talent.
I am realizing that all the top sides have goal keepers that make actual game defining saves.
Livakovic is praised for not messing up, but does he save any actual goals for us?
We are too good to not right this ship this September and get ready for the final Modrić / Perišić tournament.
I see a lot of talent in our pool of players.
We need to some vision and tactical nous from our manager.
Given that Modrić leads by example it would be good for us to have a coach that can motivate certain players.
Like your comment on Keepers – we really do not have a good one – watching Croatian keepers in Australia between 50-20 years ago – they were brilliant – Can’t believe a keeper as large as Livakovic never came to punch the ball away from a cross – hope there’s someone I haven’t heard of that will be good
As always, everyone jumps a little too extreme
Rebic is still a useful player
His play for milan has actually been legit when healthy.. not just tap ins
He had a really poor tournament. Part of it was likely being out of form and with injuries. Part of it might’ve been from trying to be the only guy actually pressing. And part of it is that he’s never had a great touch which gets exposed in games against teams like Spain where you get very little space
Petar Pusic RM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8IAI2l1fK0
I choose Gavranovic and olmo to take our pks going forward
Rebić will stay on the team, but he will have to learn to respect his place. Even the great Cristiano Ronaldo (also usually a LW) adjusts his play to match THE TEAM’s when he plays for Portugal. Rebić is a good player, but he isn’t that good (or on a bad enough team) so that he can go around acting like the boss. After all, Orsić did more damage in 10 minutes in that position than Rebić did in either of his two appearances there. And Pasalić could have done a decent false 9 if he’d been slotted into the first two games instead of Rebić. Dalić could have coached better, sure, but players have to adapt to the demands put on them, especially when they have the honor to wear the checkers at a major tournament.
I think we’ll make a better showing in Qatar or wherever the next one is. But players have to wizen up quickly through the qualifying…
spain are through.
Imagine comparing Rebic to Kalinic. Yeah both are donkeys but Kalinic has way more skill and has more national goals for Croatia. Kalinic also has decent track records with clubs in Serie A. His state are better than Ante’s. Rebic is at best a D+ or C- player. He’s overrated and has only 3 national team goals. He won’t be anything, just like Pjaca, Rog, Halilovic, Jedvaj. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t make the squad for the rest of Croatians qualifying games. Kalinic had a 20 goal season and had a couple good years at Fiorentina. Rebic had two decent seasons as a youngster in the German league. Yeah he scores with Milan but his goals are trash and how can you now score when you play with Ibrahimovic. I’d take Orsic over him any day. Orsic saves the day against Spain with a goal and assist. The guy singlehanded took out Tottenham out of Europa League and popped one in against Valencia. Face it, Rebic is trash. Even Budimir is better. Budimir carries his la liga team and scores good goals. Dalic finally realizes in the final game that he’s starting the wrong forwards after 3 games. Kramaric at least gets chances and looks better. Even then… Dalic just started guys that looked good at club. Didn’t wanna start Orsic because he played at Dinamo or Budimir because he’ll be 30 soon. Learn from your mistakes. Orsic, Budimir and Perisic are your guys now. Vlasic can play wing with Pasalic.
Ya I really had hoped to see more of orsic
Yes maybe you can say he is a bit streaky but he popped what a hatrick against Atalanta and Tottenham in a year
Who the heck has done that ever really as a Croat
Yes hindsight is amazing but I don’t see how budimir doesn’t get some time
I’m alright overall with petko but We can’t say he is our future cause of a hot streak he once had
Anyways things need to change
We have the talent we just have to mesh it all together somehow
And that is the coaches job
……..…………….…..A Budimir………………………….
…Orsic………………Vlasic……………….Perisic…
………….……Kovacic…..Brozovic…………………..
Sosa……..Pogracic…..Caleta C…….Bradaric
…………………..……Livakovic……..……………………..
Come on guys- I could have played with super Mario and Perišić in 2018 and looked good- top level guys retired and we have a structure with HNS that perpetuates patronage amongst dim witted dinosaurs in past glory- this is a tear down and a rebuild that requires non Croatian leadership who can properly assess what we have- it looks like we have many splits in this team and probably 4 or5 others that haven’t come out yet
I’m a Rebic fan as he was instrumental in the 2018 WC run. His relentless pressure and physicality tormented opposing LB’s that whole time.
Having said that, he was used out of position by Dalic for the first couple of games of this tournament and it’s hard to fault him for that.
Against the Spanish he was finally returned to his natural position on the LW (which he doesn’t typically play for the NT except when him and Perisic periodically switch) and he had an extremely crummy first half capped by a monumental lapse in judgement. But lets not forget that we had next to no possession that half because Dalic had us sitting back which doesn’t suit our style at all. So we’re playing the counter and most of our offense is directed through the left because Dalic has Vlasic playing out of position at RW but he mostly veers to the center. Rebic is immediately swarmed by several Spanish defenders every time he had a sniff of the ball because we’re so overloaded on the left and middle with no outlet on the right.
Check out the heat maps on whoscored.com for our whole tournament. To me it looks like we didn’t play with a RWer. I think teams can easily plan for this and gamble with more defense on the left as we don’t have much offense going through the right. I noticed Juranovic having to put the brakes on from venturing too far forward on the right because cover was lacking as well.
Rebic was great when we had the three headed monster of Mandzukic, Perisic and him with the high press during WC. Our current strikers can’t maintain that so it’s not worth constantly high pressing and Rebic loses some of his value. I’m looking forward to seeing someone come up on the NT that actually plays RW naturally instead of experimenting with Kramaric and others who vacate their spot. I’m not watching much HNL, does Lovro Majer play this position for Dinamo?
Yes, I agree Vuk, this is exactly how I saw it as well!
Good assessment.
Normally though, whenever we didn’t play with a traditional right winger, it would be our RB that would make the runs and Modric would provide defensive cover on that right side.
In this game, Modric was essentially our #10 (along with Vlasic veering to that area at times as well) so it was harder for Juranovic to make those deep runs and crosses, without leaving us exposed on the right side. Kovacic isn’t much of a defender where he could cover that area, and still maintain what he does in the center.
People are just pissed right now, and want to blame someone.
Rebic is definitely at fault for his poor play, but Dalic was even moreso, because he got the tactics wrong and it took him an incredibly long time to adjust.
No, Majer is much much better centrally. He’s wasted on the wing. Ivanusec is a good winger and 18 year old youngster Saranic is an excellent RW and AM. Huge talent.
Thanks Markus. We look like we’re loaded at the 10 position. To me Vlašić needs to start there.
It’s crazy to me that a guy like Gvardiol was getting his first serious chance on the Senior team in a major tournament. Ivanusec looked good in his limited minutes. I’ve read a fair amount about Saranic as well. These are the type of guys that we should of given a shot prior to a major tournament to see if they gel with the rest of the squad.
I’m looking at England with Sancho, Foden, Saka, Reese, Bellingham…all guys 21 or younger, yet they have several or more starts with their senior squad.
I never thought I would say that I wanted us to mimic the example of the English FA given their history. But they seem to be having some results by getting some value out of these guys in important games.
I’m excited by the youth that we have, but I have zero confidence in our management’s ability to introduce that talent into our team. And if they do manage to insert them in the lineup, they’ll probably put the in a position they’re not accustomed to playing, and then write them off because of that one performance.
Some of you guys have no clue:
1-everyone blaming Rebic for the goal are stupid
1a- he is an attacking wing, but so good at hustling and helping our pathetic defense, that if he leaves the field for 52 seconds, the other team rattles off 5 shots and scores.
2- Rebic too classy to say it, but Kovacic should be the one getting the blame for the goal.
At least Rebic had a footwear malfunction, Kovacic was on the field walking around, literally doing nothing to help the team. The goal scorer is standing in front of him for a long ass time, and Kova never once considers getting between him and the goal.
No fucking heart, but that has been Kova in a nutshell.
3-I understand Luka was upset, but if anybody showed Luka the replay of those 52 seconds, I am sure he will have harsh words for Kova.
4- Loved how Rebic came flying back with an amazing possession, right after the Spanish goal. If only Petko had passed back to Rebic when he should have, Rebic would have been given a chance to immediately redeem himself. After Petko finally passes it back to Rebic, Ante was offside. I blame that on Dalic not keeping Rebic, Petko, Vlasic, and Perisic together to build some continuity (although Petko did blow that passback.)
Ps- everyone saying Rebic has no touch is clueless (granted he was rusty coming off of an injury)
Fuck Dalic, fuck vlaovic, fuck Prosinecki…you don’t scapegoat a key contributer to your success for a 52 second footwear malfunction. I am so glad Rebic called out this fakenews bullshit.
Forget about that one play…
I like Rebic too.
He’s supposed to be good!
But he didn’t play well this tournament!!! He didn’t score
He didn’t do really anything.
That’s why it’s so disappointing…
I am only harping on that one sequence, because that is literally the main gist of the article. Everyone scapegoating Rebic cause he had a shoe issue. Fucking nobody talking about the Gvardiol disaster. Nobody talking about Kova. Nobody talking about how nobody cuts off sideline advances like Vrsaljko, but watching him waste on the bench is idiotic.
Playing Rebic at striker is stupid. A few insightful ppl had mentioned this while watching him play at Milan, even tho he plays well there.
Benching Vlasic in the first 2 games was stupid.
Playing Kova and Brozo at the same time was stupid.
Starting Brekalo, was stupid.
Benching Vrsaljko was stupid.
Going out of your way to find Kramaric playing time was stupid.
Sticking with Gvardiol after his horrendous game vs Scotland which got worse vs Spain, was stupid.
Dalic is stupid. As a wise man once said, “Dalic wore out his credits with this national team.”
Thank goodness we have a piss poor WC qualifying group, otherwise we would have a tough time qualifying with scrubs taking over for guys like Rebic.
Luka is too close with Kovacic.
He would never criticize him the way he should. Kovacic will never make a tackle like Modric and Brozovic would when an opposing player ventures toward our box.
Kovacic veers them into the direction of our CBs, but he relies entirely on our CBs to make the tackle.
Sometimes I think there is a miscommunication between our CBs and Kovacic, because they are so used to having Modric and Brozovic’s aggressive defending in front of them…then you just have Kovacic applying light pressure (but not actually making the sliding tackle).
His touch is shit and so is his pissy attitude. Still can be very effective though
The Strikers/scorers? on the National team were such a huuuge letdown!!!! Big Disappointment
Rebic Kramaric Petkovic
THE THREE STOOGES!!!!!!!!!!
Blaming Dalic is easy and deserved but These clowns not scoring one goal in the entire tournament is a joke. That’s an amazing feat!
I don’t know what they were doing?
I don’t know what they were thinking?
I don’t know where they are going?
I can tell you one thing…
It was depressing to watch and upsetting to think what could of been if these jokers had there act together. I really wanted to like Kramaric and Rebic and petkovic and was excited to watch some great goooooals. Instead we got Poop!! A whole tournament of Croatian ghosts Nowhere to be found except by following the shit dripping off there leg onto the field everywhere. Unbelievable! Sad! Are just a couple of words that come to mind when thinking about how bad these bums played????????
Ca anyone tell me where there are Croatian events in California?? Umirem za tamburaše/kafane
Oh by the way Kalinic could at least hold up a pass with his first touch and then pass it to another team mate not as opposing player
He lost his spot to Mandzo
Rebic lost it to no one what’s his excuse
Could not even make it for Hajduk
Why do you think he played for RNK Split
Oh yeah you can thank kovac for even letting him close to the national team set up in the first place
This is on Dalic
Blind Freddy could see something was not right with rebic in the England game
I first saw it at the World Cup final but all you detractors thought he was a bull in a china shop
Ended being a bull in Croatia’s shop
Dalic has to go
Bull talk about players expending their credits
Who talks like that
Perisic getting covid was the start. Now useless Rebic who only scores against shitty Italian and German clubs. Sosa. Pulisic. Kalinic drama before the WC final.
The HNS deserves everything it has.
What happened to Rog, what happened to Jedvaj, two kids that played in ’16 when Croatia beat Spain? Are they not getting it done in better leagues than the HNL? Do they not know that if they go back to the HNL they’d more than likely be still playing for Croatia just like bush league Bruno who couldn’t cut the mustard in Serie A and barely gets it done in the HNL (of 84 Dinamo goals Petkovic scored 9).
Pjaca should go back to the HNL, he’d be still playing for Croatia. Imagine if Coric and Balic never left the HNL, they’d be in the national team right now, all of them would be better than Petkovic in the HNL.
Am I missing anyone, how many players do you guys have that could go back to the HNL because they can’t cut the mustard abroad and become national team players, lol Halilovic there’s another one, if he went back to the HNL he’d be in the national team right now.
Rog tore his ACL, Jedvaj has taken a step back, Pjaca? Doubt he will ever be the way he was and I am pretty confident Coric and Balic are busts.
Busts because they haven’t returned to the HNL yet like bush league Bruno who couldn’t cut the mustard in Serie A, and now he’s in the national team because from Dinamo’s 84 goals he’s contributed only 9, that’s all whilst playing for best team in the HNL against all the shit teams in the HNL.
I knew you guys would be f***ed if you had to rely on bush league Bruno. @Maminjo and @Slavonac from Canada thought that of Ante Budimir though.
Some people just don’t know football though.
A guy supposedly born in Dijon talking about our guys “not cutting the mustard!” What type of hot dog do you prefer squeezed into your buns Frenchman?
And there you have it, Kalinic didn’t go AWOL, and Rebic was AWOL.
Like @Slavonac from Canada once said, football is like the military, there is an order that must be maintained, you play for your leader and you play the role he gives you to the best of your ability, like Bill Belichick says, “play your fucking role and shut the fuck up,” or something along those lines.
So the writer said, “Dalić excused Kalinić from the team for the rest of the tournament.”
I believe it was better that Kalinic left if he was going to be sooking all tournament.
Imagine Nikola Kalinic stayed and kept sooking like Rebic was this whole tournament, it wouldn’t of been good in ’18.
@Maminjo
“a coach that has failed miserably these past three years”
Lol, how many meaningful matches have you guys lost these past 3 years as opposed to “meaningless” matches?
“It was worth a shot to test him out as striker…but IN A FRIENDLY first!”
You mean in a meanigless friendly?
How would you know if Rebic did well as striker in a “meaningless” match? Would it be if he scored goals, if you guys won? But that would give meaning to the “meaningless” match.
Have you ever explained what you mean by “meaningless” match? Lol, you even called the UNL “meaningless.”
You have said only tournaments matter.
In ’18 Kalinic left. In ’21 Rebic stayed and sooked. Two incidents, same coach.
So you’re wrong when you say “Comparing Rebić to Kalinić is harsh. He never walked away from the team.”
Comparing Kalinic to Rebic is harsh, Kalinic left and ’18 went well, Rebic stayed and the Euros didn’t go so well.
Nikola Kalinic acutally is better than Ante Rebic. Rebic is a slacker, slow and can’t control the ball. Yes he does have attituide issues but Kalinic actually scored good goals against Spain 2016, Greece 2017, Ukraine 2017 and other big games. Rebic scores a fluke goal against Argentina after the mistake by the goalie and he gets all this praise. He’s nothing like Kalinic. Kalinic has more Serie A goals but is slowing down. Rebic shouldn’t even be a starter on Milan. Once Zlatan leaves it’s over. They have Kessie, Leao and others. He’ll be a bench warmer no doubt this upcoming season. Whereas Kalinic starts.
Ante Rebic was clocked running the joint-fastest speed at the 2018 #WorldCup (34km/h) along with which player?

another boring season without something excellent :_(I
I guess that would be:
1) Modric could just leave it to the next generation |l
2) there is no chance for Sosa
3) Petkovic still there II(_o makes for starting 11
4) Lovren and Vida won’t give away for central back_+
5) hurt o_o wasted talent as they -> out of position
this is for the new mind }{ new era formation
that we dream of for World Cup!

So when Dalić was on HRT tonight he apparently didn’t close the door on Rebić coming back to the NT. Božeeee
Comparing Rebić to Kalinić is harsh. He never walked away from the team, and despite his limited technical skills, he always at least tries to give it his all.
The fact is, Rebić is a good player when used correctly.
He was excellent in that critical qualifying match against Hungary that we won 4-0 when Rakitic decided to bail on us, and our qualification was in jeopardy. He played well in the remaining games, and we qualified.
Regarding these Euros…
It was worth a shot to test him out as striker…but IN A FRIENDLY first!
It was worth even starting him in his favored wing position…but TAKE HIM OUT AT HALFTIME IF HE’S NOT PERFORMING!
Also, if he was still not 100% and recovering from an injury (which was reported) then this should have also been considered.
This is all on Dalić.
Dalić is a lazy coach who is just looking for a starting eleven that he can start every single game, and just Copy & Paste it for every single match.
Rebić is outspoken and hotheaded, yes, and we don’t seem to have a problem with his ‘attitude’ when it disrupts our opponents on the field.
Everything Rebić has posted online since the Euros ended is accurate and I think most people agree with him.
He’s being scapegoated for a coach that has failed miserably these past three years, and because of a good effort against Spain (in spite of the poor coaching decisions) Dalić gets to keep his job and continue the cycle.
I know I am harsh on you sometimes bc I think you fall in love with some average players, and make them out to be studs eg Pongracic, Sosa, Gvardiol at LB, and Bradaric.
But I do agree with you sometimes, and this time you are spot on.
And yes I did bet against Dalic’s strategy. If I know we are going to lose, I might as well get paid for the heartbreak. The own goal almost made the bet a bad beat, but again I would give back all the $3000 that i won for a Croatian win. Thank goodness for the once in a lifetime Scotland odds (Croatia was +138, lol I told you all to take that bet, and I know some of you did), which allowed me the free roll to bet on Spain.
if Dalic deploys Rebic to man – marking Mbepee back then .^. |
if Dalic have a determination to select a keeper for the Final match 0-i
He could win the World Cup 2018 –
but Dalic is fucking stupid!
