As the World Cup kicks off this week, CroatianSports.com would like to remember the flood victims of not only Croatia, but surrounding areas in Serbia and Bosnia as well, as they rebuild in these dark times. The flood damage has been compared to that of the war and basic necessities such as bread and water are in high demand.
After raising $5,000 for the “Joe Šimunić: Za Dom Spremni” fund and not having a proper outlet to donate the funds, CroatianSports.com has decided to donate the remaining funds to the Croatian Red Cross. There was $2,500 left over from the fund as we returned all donations to those who requested it as the original goal of the Šimunić contribution was not met.
The eastern Croatian region of Slavonija is still in bad shape and they can use all the help they can get. As we suit up in our checkers this week to cheer on our Vatreni from all across the globe, let this disaster remind us of what is important in life before sport takes precedence.
If you would like to donate to the Croatian Red Cross, you can directly send funds to their account in Croatia by following these Wire Transfer instructions:
My cousin in Cro has already recommended that we donate it to his new charity called the Ljudsko Fond.
Great to hear that we already have some interest in this project. Boys, lets enjoy the world cup and revisit this after we lift the trophy(then I woke up).
We have to have someone in Croatia that we can trust to deliver the funds and to make sure that the funds are going for a good cause and not into someone’s pocket.
I like the idea of a vote to decide where the funds go and yes $10,000 will be a huge impact. I say we do it around Easter, Christmas or both. $100 or $200 won’t change the way I live.
So for the next few months, talk to your people back home to find the perfect charity or donation for a good cause.
@Denis
Im in on this for sure just as long as we make sure whoever we donate to that they actually use it for the cause whatever it may be and not to line some majmuns pocket.
Good idea on this.
dont know if I shared this or not a few weeks ago…..
Anyone wonder why the floods did not damage to Hercegovina???? Even God can’t wash that stench with torrential rainfall.
tata says he needs new speedos and times are tough, he might need some;)
i think some sort of hungry kids type thing would be great…
sounds good… should we set a date for every year, or have it on a holiday like bozic… though everyone donates then… maybe middle of the year type thing…
leave it up to you guys but i’m in
Good idea. Have everyone sign up and email or Paypal a recurring $100 fee and have some sort of poll to decide where the funds go every year. If you wanna avoid fees from Paypal or whatever, just have everyone pay 100 bucks toward a credit card number via their online banking.
You should give it all to a single individual. Makes more of an impact.
Nice work!
Svaka cast momci. you guys do great with this site
I think this is what CroatianSports.com is all about. I keep saying that this is “our website”. Some of us write, some of us comment, some of us donate, some of us bitch. In the end, we all play a part.
After taking so much heat for taking donations “to pay a millionaire’s fee” I told Ante that I’m done trying to raise money for “a good cause”. However, after seeing the flood damage in an area that I’ve failed to step foot on, I’m glad that we had a “bank” and were able to help.
I say that we build on this and form a club of 100 or so people to donate $100/year to a good cause in Croatia. $10,000 would help so many people in Croatia. I’m sure that we can get 100 people to donate a measly $100/year.
Have you seen some of the hospitals in Croatia? There are still blood stains on the walls from the war! What do you say?
Are ya with me?
Excellent move by the guys! If I had to hear one more ignorant bitch complaint like “oh, nice job paying a millionaires fine” without the foresight to see what it really was for, I would’ve lost it. Svaka cast jos jednom! Za Slavoniju
good… im glad i could have donated some as now im pretty broke… see guys it all worked out trying to pay a millionaires fine
are we going to have fantasy league for world cup??
Good job fellas
well done
Finally!!! Well done lads! Now remind me again what our athletic eater did to raise funds?
Proud to be apart of this !
This is what Za Dom Spremni is all about.
Svaka li čast .
Excellent move- well done-
Here here
Well done to Croatian Sports for doing this. Having just returned from Dalmatia last week, it was great to see so many people pulling together and donating to Crveni Kriz at local post offices and through collections at church.
