In Rijeka’s first ever Champions League match, they took care of business at home against Welsh club TNS. And it was all Rijeka from the beginning in the 2-0 win as Josip Mišić scored off a free kick in just the fourth minute of play. Rijeka held TNS to 33% ball possession without a single shot on frame and would ultimately put the game away in the 68th minute when Florentin Matei was left all alone in front of the net for an easy tap-in off a low, sharp cross from the sideline.
The Champions League second round qualifying affair will continue next week in Wales where a Rijeka away goal should all but put the Croatian champs in the next round. Rijeka would be unseeded in third round qualifying and could face the likes of Olympiakos, Celtic or Red Bull Salzburg, to name a few.
