THE ARGENTINE ASSASSIN
Houston Rockets forward Luis Scola sat down with CSR at Staples Center on March 2nd to talk Dražen Petrović, Argentine football and the 2014 World Cup. As TEAM CSR approached the Argentine forward in the locker room, his eyes lit up when we started picking his brain about the late, great Petrović. Scola quickly grabbed his phone and showed us a picture from the 1990 FIBA World Championship game between Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union.
Scola quickly pointed to the corner of the screen. “You see that kid right there? That’s me”. It was a 10 year-old Luis Scola sitting on the baseline as a ball boy. Scola was a class act and should be put in the same company as Australian-born Croatian Andrew Bogut. The only thing we didn’t see eye-to-eye was his 2014 World Cup Final prediction.
Hi! I’ve been reading your site for a long time now and finally got the courage to go ahead and give you a shout out from Dallas Texas! Just wanted to mention keep up the great work!
nice interview!
Vlade Divac….Cetnik!
HAHAHAHAHAHAAH Classic!
Good call, I forgot about that.
Kranjcar maybe wasn't on the bench because his wife give birth to a baby the other day.
Anyone know why Kranjcar isn't even on the bench? Is he injured?
Vlade Divac? Cetnik!
@Dukic,
thanks for the input.
@JP,
I agree.
@Andrej L,
This guy was cooler than Bogut… Just kidding Andrew. 🙂
@Franjo,
Nice guy. Once I mentioned Drazen Petrovic he became interested.
"Did you watch the ESPN 30 for 30 Drazen Petrovic documentary?"
yes, I was there for the final.
"Oh ya, the final was in Argentina"
no, I was there at the game.
"oh, nice"
I was a ballboy, sitting on the court, 10 feet away from the incident.
Then he showed us a picture on his phone, him sitting in the corner during the game. Ante and I kept looking at each other, saying WTF
that was sweet but the new logo even sweeter.
I don't know about you, but I think we take Argentina 2-1 in the Brasilian final 🙂
Of course Dudu with the winner!
Nice work with the interview, our NBA stable grows onward 🙂 !
The 7 footer is Ante Tomic i believe…very raw talent…there are no big stars but the team is still around top 10 in the world so i can live with that
Great interview though, seems like a stand up guy
Wow, nice find that he was a ballboy in that 1990 game.
I watched Croatia play in the World Championship last summer and even though this is their best team as of late, NONE of these guys are NBA material. They have the 7 foot center (forgot his name), but he would be a 15 minute player at best. There is no future version of a Drazen Petrovic out there, or anyone either half of his skill.
No one seems to want to put out the numerous hours that Petro did on his own. It's really sad to see what has become of the basketball team after the game against the Dream Team.
PS- Regarding the flag incident, I'm sure Drazen was watching the documentary from heaven and saying to himself "Vlade, you don't have me fooled with your crocodile tears and you can stick the Serbian flag up your ass" 🙂
That was a nice little interview Ante. Just another example of the global impact that Drazen had on the game of basketball.
