Mateo Kovačić supplied one of the silkiest through-balls you will see in FIFAesque fashion Monday night in Liverpool. Kova came off the bench in the 75′ with Man City down 2-1 to Everton. However, immediately following Everton’s final goal of the match to make it 3-1, Kova fired a perfect through-ball seconds after the kickoff, finding Haaland on the break.
The angle from the camera doesn’t do the pass justice but in real time it was magic. With the draw, City are now in trouble as they trail Arsenal by 5 points with four matches remaining in the season. Good to see Kova out there again!

Well I know we won’t have a Croatia in the finals for the Champions League. But I really hope that Matanović and Freiburg can take the Europa League title on the 20th. It would be amazing for him.

I was at BMO field for the last TFC game. Those additional seats look so unsafe. What architect thought this was safe? For those going to Toronto, be prepared to take go transit. Unless you wanna be around foreigners, drug addicts and lunatics screaming on the TTC. Exhibition station is right across BMO also.
Thanks for the info. I just got tickets yesterday and I’ll be on the south side of the stadium. Does anyone know where the Croatian supporter section is located?
I’m imagining it will feel like a home game if all you locals show up.
There will be a healthy number of Croat supporters regardless of where you sit. There are a great number of us in the Greater Toronto Area. I’ll be at the Panama game with a pretty good sized group.
You’ll also be perfectly fine on the TTC or GO. As with most big cities, you’ll have the occasional troubled individual(s) wherever you go. Can’t say I’ve ever had an issue with someone on TTC in 30+ years.
Great to hear. I’ll be driving within close proximity to the stadium and already reserved some parking. Pro-tip for people driving in, instead of buying the outrageously overpriced FIFA parking, download yourself the SpotHero app. Saved myself about $100 USD for the Philly match with a little extra work.
I’ll be in Toronto for our match too!
Is Go Transit different to TTC? Dont care about the vagrants just want to be dropped off as close as possible.
In Vancouver you won’t be able to get near the Stadium by transit or car. Everyone gets off at the station before and walks what they’re calling the “last mile.”
Go trans is different. I’ll be picking up at aldershot closer to Hamilton. Way easier.
If you hear the White Stripes Seven Nation Army it’s me.
GO Transit operates a much wider network. It’s more people coming from outside Toronto or from the further suburbs of Toronto. TTC is more localized and likely what you will be taking if you’re staying in Toronto proper or the closer suburbs.
Where will Hrvati be drinking in Toronto on the match day? Any designated spots yet?

Kranjcar saying Olic perfect to replace Dalic
Olic even convinced Dalic to invite him to the WC to be his right-hand man
Unreal
We are due for missing a tournament I guess
lol
That’s true
2030 we have a chance to win Gold with next gen in their prime
And Olic is going to F it up and not qualify
Sad
Beginning his tenure as a coach during Modric peak maturation, and ending it at his retirement, might be the best Luck he had, and using Modric as an ally by always conferring with him, was a smart decision. With that kind of luck, it is best to take your winnings and go home.No need to risk his legacy.
Will miss his character, Meanor, and professionalism. A total contrarian iconoclast, in the modern world, but a little bit more mainstream in the company of the good people of Croatia.
I think what you meant to write is Dalic is a contrarian traditionalist and believer (ie anti-iconoclast) in a World of irresponsible iconoclasts ripping apart and rapping the fabric of society strand by strand?
The rest make sense and Anonymous agrees with 👍
Agreed, thanks for clarifying, on the same page with you.
The worse outcome would be if we continue to qualify, but just keep falling short (as people don’t actually believe we can win a tournament and would just accept R16 and quarterfinal eliminations as satisfactory results).
Missing a tournament ‘should’ get OIic fired.
Again, he also missed a tournament with the U21s by being eliminated in a home game by Georgia, but somehow he avoided being fired.
I really hope our U21s choke and Olic gets the heat for it.
As usual small in number huge in impact.
Antun Lučić; September 9, 1855 – September 2, 1921) was a Croatian-born American oil explorer. He organized the drilling of an oil well near Beaumont, Texas, that became known as Spindletop. This led to the widespread exploitation of oil and the start of the Petroleum Age.
Thanks for posting
Never heard of him b4
Why did he give his son his mother’s surname???
That’s pretty Cuck-ish

I guess it was pretty common to Anglo-Saxon Americanize your name in the days of yore.
Pretty sad that the most favorite name in England, and soon Spain, France and Germany is now Muhammad. You need to disappear if you are a Christian Anglo Saxon for your past transgressions. Times change.
Time changes everything, especially in soccer.
It use to be, As goes Perisic ,Hrvatska goes forward.
Now it is, As goes Sucic Baturina, Sucic, Musa, Gvardiol, Stanisic, Pasalic, Vuskovic, and Segecic?,……… Hrvatska goes forward.
It is going to take a full house stanovanje effort.
It is rather exciting about the mere possibility for continued success.
I am flying in from Hrvatska for England and Panama games. I know we have Croatian people in Canada so that will be good time. Any idea how Dallas will be. I have friends who think we will have a very low turnout of fans in Dallas and atmosphere will not be good in Dallas for Hrvatska.
Northeast based Croatian here. I would agree with your friend about the low turnout for Dallas as I think the Croat population is a relatively small there. Also compounding the issue is the Brits have money and will be buying a lot of the secondary market tickets that is already inflated due to it being England.
You may get some Croats traveling from LA/West Coast.
Toronto will be the best atmosphere and Philly second during the group.
I will add that the stadium in Dallas looks amazing and a great example of American extravagance. Even if there aren’t as many Croats there, I know they’ll be loud and the experience of that match will be hard to beat.

🚨 𝐍𝐄𝐖: Toni Silić is expected to earn a call-up in Zlatko Dalić’s World Cup squad, marking a huge step after his HNL performances and five U21 caps.
Silić could edge out Dominik Kotarski and Karlo Letica to become the new 3rd goalkeeper option.
Livaković and Pandur would be first two options.
[Germanijak]
######
No point in arguing about 2nd and 3rd string keepers.
Those positions are the least important positions, and are probably the most political or relationship-based selections.
Silić probably isn’t even a top-5 keeper in the HNL, yet somehow he’s going to be on the team ahead of guys like Kahlina, Semper, Letica, Kotarski, Zelenika and several others who have played just as good (if not better).
The likeliest reason for the Silić callup is to add a Hajduk player because Dalić may be planning on including some more Dinamo players (like Beljo or Stojković).
Stojković, would be nice. Igor, Petar, and Ante, would be enough.
Pandur is 3 wins to the PL and/or a Liva injury away from being Croatia #1
Agree 3rd choice and after don’t matter but who is 2nd choice matters big time
If you’re not 100 steps ahead – you’re 100 steps behind like all u MORONS
Will keep you all posted 😉

Still just a rumor.
One of many teams linked to him.
Then watching him 3 times
Translates to SN saying they are after him
Such drama queens and fake pumpers
Good showing from Kova but, understandably, he still looks rusty. My guess is that a Baturina-Sucic-Modric starting 3 will make more sense
He hasn’t played since October? What do you expect? Lol give him some time to adjust. You think Gvardiol will be back to normal if he plays. Look at his assist for the Haaland goal.
“Sports are pure!”
lol
Despite only 8.5% probability
NHL handed Toronto the #1 pick
In last 20 years only 1 or 2 times did the team not with the best % probability win the lottery for #1
Toronto having a good team is great biz for the NHL

Dear Diary ….
Regarding June 1st, before friendlies, we should risk it, do a blind replacement, Segecic and someone else, ….Moro, etc.
Too many Kovacic types, who couldn’t score if their life was dependent on it. We need to control the middle, yes, but we need the ability to score at will, and be dangerous.
There are more than a few Turkish football fans who recall 2023, and feel differently about our brother Kovacic, and his ability to score goals.
He is a world class midfielder. Period.
I am hoping he will elevate his game, be well rested and peak at just the right time, and have his best World Cup ever.
He’s good but we can’t just keep assuming him as the “Modric heir” and guarantee him starting minutes whenever he’s available.
Two years ago, most people here did not anticipate that we would have guys like Petar Sucic and Martin Baturina potentially surpassing Kova already (yet here we are).
Kovacic can start, but we need to be careful. Our offense was EXTREMELY stale in the last tournament and we only started scoring goals when Luka Sucic was inserted into the midfield (off the bench).
Euro2024 was a disaster, but at least this time we have several dynamic young players who have progressed well (and we’d better use them).
Petar Sucic and Martin Baturina should be guaranteed starters.
Whether or not it’s some combination of Modric, Krama, or Kova starting alongside them (with one or two of them coming off the bench) is what Dalic needs to figure out.
*OR one of two of them (Kova and/or Krama) coming off the bench , I mean
All good points as always, and I largely agree. It is something Dalic needs to figure out . . .
For the most part, I am not too worried about exactly who starts. This is partly a war of attrition. If we were to go all the way, and my expectations are more modest than that, but just hypothetically, we will probably be playing the equivalent about 9 games in 33 days or so. At the level of intensity required, it is a brutal test of endurance.
The depth is such a great thing to have. Those midfielders will be run hard, and being able to rest people here and there, spread out the work load . . . . If we can do that properly, it might make the difference as we move along.
Modric is the greatest warrior, but at 40 he can’t play 9 games in 33 days. Young stars Sucic and Baturina can and will carry a big load, but Kovacic needs to bring his best for us to go deep . . . we need prime Kova to have a great run.
Resting Kramaric in appropriate places will also be wise. We need goals and he is one of the few who just has that nose for the net, being exactly where he needs to be at the right time. If we need a big goal, deep in this tournament, late in a game, my money might be on Krama as the one guy who will get it done.
Unlike you, I am worried of who starts.
I am afraid of Dalic trying to start ALL of the guys mentioned above, and forcing guys into starting positions that may not work.
I can easily see Dalic playing a central midfield trio of Modric, Sucic and Kovacic…with Baturina and Perisic on the wings, and Krama in some sort of a striker role.
Everyone would probably just start slowing things down and gravitating to the middle again (like they were doing at Euro2024) making us easy to defend against by clogging the middle of the field.
Also, I actually DO think Dalic will play Modric all 9 games at 90 minutes a piece.
Dalic tends to be “reactive” with his substitutions, and only benches Modric once he’s been completely exhausted (which can come at a terrible time). At Euro2024, he took out both Modric and Kovacic in the Italy game (after we went up 1-0) and we ended up losing the midfield game and Italy came back to draw. Dalic also did in the Nations League quarterfinal against France (that we lost in PKs) after exhausting Modric completely, then had to sub him out during extra time.
Dalic need to come up with various lineups that work, using an 18-man squad that he should play regularly in these 33 days. He can’t just go with his favorite 11 players for 90 minutes each…until they gas out completely and then just throw together a makeshift lineup (which is what he’s been doing these past few years). We have the depth now, and we need to use it.
The Turkish game was a pleasant anomaly, unfortunately. Mario seems to shine when he can execute these tremendous Diego Maradona type coast to coast runs from one end to the other and pulls the whole defense toward him. Unfortunately, he is not endowed with Diego’s ability for the final finish on a regular basis. With Perisic and Modric, I have a rolodex of memories that stand out. I realize a golden brick or mosaic walls need mortar for it to work; I get it.
It just seems like there is a love fest for Mario, but when it comes to say Orsic for example it is like Mislav who?
Well said.
Need to gel soon. We’ll be ok.
Sega gives us an intangible.
Must be used.
Let’s make a run !!!
If Haaland had provided Kovacic a great pass on a break, would he have ended up with an assist. Based on 10:45, not. Most over-appreciated player on NT.
Jedvaj returning to Dinamo
Told you MORONS he was playing good for PAO
You all said Tin is crap blah blah blah
Anonymous eye testing retains a 100% hit rate
How is Jedvaj returning to the HNL (while still in the prime of his career) seen as a good thing?
Cancel that
Jedvaj has rejected the again (just like last summer)
So Jedvaj is TOO GOOD for the HNL
There is a lesson in that
But not good enough for Panathinaikos (who are choosing not to re-sign him)
Another 20 minutes or so for Kovacic, hopefully he gets more playing time in the coming weeks.
Great pass for Haaland to score, however partially at fault with the Everton third goal a minute earlier when he got easily pushed of the ball when trying to stop an Everton counter.
According to the media, Dalic by next Monday has to provide a list of minimum 35 and maximum 55 players for the WC to FIFA. HNS is not obliged to provide the media with the list, however they did so for the last WC when Dalic initially named 35 players.
The final squad has to be between 23 and 26 players and has to be in to FIFA by 1 June.
Here’s the full rules – they were actually published a MONTH AGO – it’s sad the “media” are all nose-pickers and took them a month to publish the “news”

That was the typical lethal Kovacic shot @ 10:42. Yikes.
He’s so shit on offense haha
Incredible pass
