HAT TRICK MAESTRO, ALJOŠA VOJNOVIĆ
The first leg of the 2009-10 Europa League second qualifying round got underway today. Croatian clubs, NK Rijeka and Slaven Belupo both started their European seasons on the road.
Slaven Belupo torched Macedonian side Milano (no relation with AC Milan) as they pulled some ‘tricks’ out of the bag in a 4-0 win. Hungarian Csaba Csizmadia opened up the scoring in the 26′ only moments before Aljoša Vojnović completely took over the game.
Vojnović scored a ‘natural hat trick’ (three goals in the same half) within five minutes to end the first half. This 4-0 away result will certainly see Slaven Belupo join Hajduk in the next round.
A DEJECTED ANAS SHARBINI TRIES TO STAY POSITIVE FOR THE SECOND LEG
NK Rijeka could not get anything going as they travelled to Luxembourg to take on Differdange. Rijeka lost the game 1-0 and will have to score some goals next week at Kantrida in order to move on. Anas Sharbini played the entire match today.
I originally thought this would be an easy test for Rijeka. Are they having the same problem Dinamo Zagreb had earlier in the week? I mean, how good can a team from Luxembourg possibly be?
Videos and highlights will be put up on this post later today as they hit the web.
In other news, Hajduk Split will host English side Blackburn Rovers in a friendly at the Poljud July 18th.

Wow I didn't think you were such a baby. Unbelievable. What diference does it make if Istina was "making fun of Rijeka losing the first leg". Istina predicted "Rijeka will ebd up winning the return leg easily." and this is what happened.
You on the other hand, "Actually i think Rijeka can lose this match."
Your prediction was off. period. Then you start bringing up "This is why Ante is a better reporter than you." Where did this come from? What are your intentions?
Your HNL football knowledge is rich, however, you make yourself sound like an idiot with this last comment.
Read the quotes, and reply with quotes not with "This is why Ante is a better reporter than you."
Re: Svircic
What a git – read the top and you'll see that Istina was making fun of Rijeka losing the first leg and here you are claiming his prediction that they'd win the second leg is 1-0 to him. Bizarre!
This is why Ante is a better reporter than you. I also said Rijeka can lose this match. Well they lost the first match. Also if you watch Rijeka at the moment you'll see they are all about Sharbini's. If they left who do you think will give them the edge – Hjorve Strok lol. I think Anas is so good he could move to a team as good as Liverpool and not look out of place. Moving to us prob won't even help his progress as i think he's better than Dinamo Zagreb. However Ahmad is the only solution for Hajduk. They need to realise that and put their bid in.
I said Rijeka could lose as have you seen their terrible pre season results and how they didn't pay their players. They prepared bad for the season and that first result was no surprise under those circumstances. Also having let Novakovic, Dabac and Miladin go they are serious trouble once they lose Sharbini's.
From what I was able to gather, I believe Blackburn had interest in both Ibricic and Pandza.
I like Gabric. Another year at Hadjuk will help him.
I don't recall Pandza receiving any firm offers, did I miss something?
RE: "The reality is that as soon as a player shows any signs of development he is sold or wants to leave on his own."
Generally, I agree… this is the way it tends to happen.
However, rather than dwelling on that, why not recognize this year's exceptions and celebrate them? e.g. Gabric, Ibricic, Pandza all stayed at Hajduk. Maybe they're just saying all the right things but I sense Gabric and Ibricic are sincere in their desire to stay and accomplish more at Hajduk before they leave.
Yes, perhaps I am seeing the situation through rose coloured glasses but I truly believe one has to be encouraged by these cases of players remaining at Hajduk.
This is not a battle between me and dinamofan. We just see things froma different perspectives. Yes, I do look at things pessimistically, but I also believe I am very realistic in my thoughts and opinions.
The Cro league is a bad leage to watch and there is no short-term or long-term fix. The reality is that as soon as a player shows any signs of development he is sold or wants to leave on his own. There is no way you can hold a player back who wants to leave. Recent examples include Kalinic, Corluka, Rukavina, etc… Each of these players did very little in the cro league, but got out as soon as possible. The only exception was Luka Modric who waited an extra year at Dinamo. Everyone else leaves ASAP.
And that is why the cro league will not change anytime soon. Some of the teams might get lucky and a few of their youth players will develop at the same time that will allow the club to prosper for a few years, but those players will be sold as soon as they and their agents want.
The league of 16 was a mistake and attendance figures will show that during the year.

Actually i think Rijeka can lose this match. They have very badly prepared for the season and theres been about 8 teams in HNL that have shown better preseason form. Apart from Sharbini's they seem to have nothing else. Strok is rubbish and Krizman has shown nothing so far and if they are going into season with players like that i fear for them.
There's guys available for nothing like Kwedi, Celiscak, Jertec, Busic, Lovrek, Ljubojevic and Poljak that are all better than what they currently have. Also heard rumour that Rijeka are putting teams off Sharbini cos of overvaluation – same with Sibernik who want £3m for Zec. Rijeka apparently are even considering sending Sharbini to Egypt which is definitely not in his interest. Is Bartolovic also set for Cibalia. That looks a decent signing.
Rijeka will ebd up winning the return leg easily.
The reason there are plenty of transfers in the cro league is the same reason there are plenty of transfers in the serb league. Once any players shows a slight sign they can play, they will leave at the first moment possible. It's the reason teams like hajduk have a hard time holding on to their juniors. 2 bundeliga and belgium league teams will pay these kids around 200,000 euros, while all hajduk does is offer them bottom-level contracts.
These guy have a 10-15 year window where they can make serious $$$, and they have to seize the opportunity.
i prob disagree with that. Croat league players seems to transfer a lot more than other nations players. HNL clubs seems to lose 6 stars each every season. Look at Sibernik at moment. Its a mass exodus.
As for Rijeka result don't u just find that amusing. Am sure they can turn it around. Obviously losing to a team from Lux is more comical than anything else.
Early in the season….yes. But, the other teams with the exception of the Russian league and scandanavian leagues are all in the same boat.
Rijeka lost to a bunch of laborers.
Might have something to do with the stage of season we're at and lack of match fitness. Also Rijeka are not paying there players so they are hardly motivated right now. Although its not happened this year so much HNL teams usually suffer from massive player upheavals in the summer. That's usually why they do nothing in Europe cos it takes 5 months minimum to rebuild a side. Stop moaning about everything mate. Whingers are no good to anyone. Unless you have some ideas for solutions – find something else useful to do rather than saying everythings bad. Lets face it anyone can point out the things your saying. If Rijeka go out to this Lux side then obviously that's not great, but these matches are all far too early.
Just shows you how bad the croatian league really is. Rijeka, one of the top teams in Cro, loses to a bunch of part-timers.
Dinamo cant beat a team from Armenia.
And we are all waiting for hajduk's usual european disgrace.
Props to Slaven!!
There is a reason Rijeka games are never on tv there opponent has been outscored 8 to 108 in Euro Competitions and they got there 9th goal on them! good job guys luxenburg really how good can they be? please tell me
Hehe same old Rijeka in Europe. Belupo seem to enjoy their Euro adventures though. I quite like there team this year. Good on them for holding onto Vrucina and adding to their squad. Sensible move me thinks. Jajalo has financially secured them for the season. They must feel good about themselves. This Czizmadia guy has made a good start to life in Croatia. I bet everyone will want him come the end of season.
What is your point??? I am being a bit sarcastic with my comment about Rijeka. Don't tell me you have the paper bog over your head as well.
@ ziiva istina
Who do you like?
or do you hate football
Very nice result by Rijeka.
