Slaven is off to the UEFA Cup 1st round (for the first time ever if my research serves me right; please correct me if not) after a hard fought 2-0 win in Koprovnica Thursday night. Losing the first leg 1-0, Slaven knew they would need some goals to get through. Aris helped out the cause in the 14th minute when they let an own goal by Bolivian midfielder, Nacho García, get by the goalkeeper.
Slaven played tough defense as an away goal by Aris would surely prevent the Croatian club from moving on. Finally in the 64th minute, Bojan Vručina, put away the clinching goal as Slaven takes the game 2-0 and advances to the 1st round on a 2-1 aggregate.
No one will give Slaven the love that they deserve, but they proved themselves today in UEFA Cup play and have been solid in the Prva Liga. They can ultimately be Croatia’s dark horses. Hajduk kicks off against Deportivo half an hour after the Slaven game ends. Let’s see if the Croatian clubs can make it a triple for UEFA Cup.
he’s been excellant IMO for the last two league games.Last year he was generally considered one of citeh’s best players.I do agree that he’s comical with his scowls and arm-waves/arm-flickoffs but have you seen Petrov… Having been to Manchester I can say that the thought of living there sends chills down my spine(and remember Charlie can’t get pissed every night). The fact is no one likes Man.
As far as his NT v club form,Charlie’s form is way better than rob kovac, joe, or simic(who has no form-good or bad).
Haha nobody likes the city of Manchester and Charlie must also prefer playing for a bigger club..
In other UEFA Cup news, Manchester City squeaked by Danish side Midtjylland in penalties Thursday. Vedran Corluka converted the winning penalty kick for City, but you have to see his body language and facial expressions when he plays. After he scored the penalty, the ball rolled back out of the net and he struck it angrily into the Danish crowd as if he had lost. I’ve been watching him play for City now for the past year and I have seen more of the same. He plays like a stubborn, angry Croatian who’s mad all the time. I think he hates playing in England. I think he hates playing in Manchester even more. That’s why moving to Tottenham (London) would’ve made sense for him. But just watch him play for City in the future. He doesn’t play the same as he does for Croatia. Maybe it’s just me. But it’s pretty comical stuff. I haven’t seen the guy smile in my life.
