HRVATSKA: Livaković – Vrsaljko, Lovren, Ćaleta-Car, Barišić – Brozović, Modrić, Pašalić – Brekalo, Perišić – Budimir.
I will absolutely take the three points but I cannot take the 1-0 victory over Cyprus as a positive result. Croatia scored a junk goal via Pašalić in the 40th minute but were inept on the wings to find the back of the net once more. There was a Cyprus build up during the second half which could have led to a goal and a 1-1 game. Imagine…just imagine…if Croatia only took one point from Slovenia and Cyprus in the first two games of qualifying. Fortunately, they figured it out.
Both Brekalo and Perišić were disappointing. Absolutely no wing play from them.
Match Highlights
Angry Post Game Recap
I’m just going to leave this right here for now. Give me your starting XI for Croatia on Saturday vs. Cyprus.
This is a must-win game for the Vatreni – for three points and team morale – but maybe even a bigger game for Dalić to keep his job.
Here’s mine: Livaković – Barišić, DCC, Lovren, Vrsaljko – Broz, Modrić – Perišić, Vlašić, Orsic – Budimir.
The Lovren/Vida marriage needs a break up. DCC is the future. Modrić and Kovačić should never play side by side for the Vatreni. They’re the exact same player which takes Kova off his game. Oršić has been hot. Play the hot hand. Krama is in a bit of a funk at Hoffenheim. It has shown. Budimir has more to prove with Petković unavailable.

@truth, maybe doesn’t mean much to you but it means everything to me.
Besides, please name me a better candidate please… for now I’d much rather a Croat in Dalić over someone like Prosinecki (and don’t get me started on why not him)..
Anyway, point I’m trying to make is everyone needs to relax and have faith.
ZDS
ALBANIAAAAAAAAA
Croatia is the best!! Za dom spremni!!!
Kulenovic was a joke. Own goal aside, he offered no press or effort up front or on defense. He was a waste, didnt even try. Send him home
Who cares if Dalic is a good Croatian or a good human being. He is a SHIET coach
Dalić out, wtf
A lot of negativity considering Croatia always stutters through qualifying, though agree we aren’t playing great.
Hoping Dalić can pull out of this hole and the team improves, he’s a good Croatian and a good human being. Personally I think he’ll turn it around and qualify.
However if not, I see Ciro coming in until a suitable replacement is found. No chance a foreign coach can succeed in Croatia, not that we could afford it anyway.
On Modrić, what a legend but no need to feel sorry for him playing in this Croatia team in transition. Despite his frustration it’s still an honour for him and I’m sure an additional reason for him to continue playing was to break the record, which he’s done and good on him.
ZDS
No Kramaric vs. Malta. He’s “injured”.
Foreign coach?
The results would be worse. Only a Hrvat can understand a Hrvat.
A lot of teams had trouble this week. Everybody calm down. That’s soccer.
You think Russia or Slovenia won’t drop any points?
We’re fine.
Foreign coach required- clean house of old school HNS and go to new age of coaching and proper training – we have tons of skill but this is unacceptable- what is wrong with this team going into the Euros?
@Maminjo
Watching the second half of the U21. We were up 3-0 and Kulenovic subbed in and he just scored an OG.
Barely hanging on at 3-2 but got the win.
He is a bigger body that can press from what I watched.
Any kid who doesn’t pick Hrvatska
Should be given hell.
@Mali Ante
.
I think I would prefer a big and physical target man.
.
Someone who is an aerial threat, but can also be physical for us to wear away the opposing defenders (and make it easier for the rest of our creative midfielders and wingers).
Mandzukic did this well for us. Klose did this for Germany. Giroud does this for France. They don’t even really have to score often.
.
A player like Rijeka’s Kulenovic may not be any sort of elite prospect for us, but I can see how very useful he could be in the future. This is why it’s kind of a shame that we are potentially going to lose Igor Matanovic to Germany. Kid is already 6’4″ at age 17 and is playing on a 2.Bundesliga team. Could be very useful for us.
.
I haven’t watched Lovric play, but I think he’s more like a traditional skilled forward who can play as both a winger and striker. I don’t think he’s physical or an aerial threat.
I think we are good with Petkovic up top for now, but in a few years we will need to find some other youngster who can provide this.
U21’s on now uefa.tv …Ivanusec with nice volley fooled the keeper 1-0
Does anyone know much about Lovric? Any potential to fill the striker void for us?
Just checked out a YouTube video showing some of his goals…he takes free kicks. Seems to have a nose for the net.
Having Rebic back to help press will be big.
Someone mentioned having Vlasic play up top and press and have Krama play off him. Wishful thinking but not sure it would work well given that we then would not have a target
man for any crosses.
We need Mandza to come back like Zlatan did. Lol.
LA KNAT too bright a lot more – then + going on with this goof!
the way Stipe was knocked down just like Croatia recently }{ such a weak |+ will get annihilated 6-0 by the strong team! )_
come on +_
slack off and like to jog around the arena !_I
this team need to be blessed -:> by GOD

135 and going strong.
Srna god bless him as he lead us through the dark ages.
But he held on at the end with 2 years of mediocrity.
Modrić at 35 – 135, leads us with the extraordinary.
He is the only current player that competes on a world class level.
It is actually mind blowing.
I want to see the rest of the squad, plus Dalic, honor him Tuesday with an extraordinary performance without him.
Juranovic is what we have been calling for these past 2 years.
Speed, energy and dynamic play from the flanks.
He was worth the watch in the second half.
He took his opportunity and literally ran with it.
We need 10 guys like that in the field against Malta.
They have played great in their first two matches against Russia and Slovakia.
There will be no intimidation factor.
We should view them has Turkey.
Thanks Iggy for YouTube link. SBS coverage of wc98 was awesome
Stale!
I wouldn’t give up on Krama just yet, but I do give up playing him in Dalić’s favored 4-2-3-1 formation.
.
I’d try him in a new formation with Petković up top and Krama as the second striker, but that’s it. If that doesn’t work, then it’s bench time. Same thing with Kovačić. I don’t play him when Luka plays. Duje Ćaleta-Car today pretty much did what Kovačić does all game, and it didn’t cost us a midfield spot.
.
Dalić subbing out Budimir for Krama directly was a bad move. He should’ve kept Budimir on, so we can see how Krama works for us with a target man. Another missed opportunity.
I watch a lot of Bundesliga games and I see a lot of Kramaric and Brekalo. One of the reasons Kramaric successful in Hoffenheim is that he plays off of a target man either as a second striker or as an attacking mid. He is definitely not tall enough or quick enough to be a target centre forward. He does move well to receive the ball and he does have a nose for goal. He does have the smarts to lay off when he sees that he has no chance to score but he can be very selfish. As for Brekalo, for the last 2 months, he has been on the bench as a substitute with some games not even seeing the field. Brekalo is very inconsistent as he can be very good but he can be very mediocre too. He has potential and is still very young but because of his inconsistency, Wolfsburg has put him on the bench more and more lately. If he wants to play more for both club and country, he needs to bring his skill and effort more regularly. I agree with Slavonac’s analysis on the other members of the team. I would love to see more of Orsic as you can see that he has skill, desire and tries to make things happen. In my eyes, I see him ahead of Brekalo.
Remember when we tied Malta?
I do.
Dalic out! Cant fuck around anymore
can someone tell me where var is used as in a fifa world cup qualifier apparently its not but in a a fifa world cup and the final nonetheless its used to rob us of the momentum and possibly the trophy with that call against perisic that was ball to hand not hand to ball. regardless of it being uefa qualifiers its for the world cup so how does that make sense that they use var for the world cup finals tournament but not for qualifying lol
Guys remember when we tied Finland
It’s the same ole shit going on
Either no one legit wants to play or dalic lost em I don’t know
I totally agree may as well roll out the youth and dinamos best at this point with luka in the middle
I know the ball is round as they say and anything can happen
But surely we have more talent then these other teams
Sure not all world class but you put Badelj on any of these teams and he is a starter
Match Luka’s efforts and see where you get
Bring in the hungry young men….
I would stun the world and call up Halilovic .
Next friendly needs new faces. Who cares what
The final score ends up to be. Try a couple
Kids and mix things up.
Some guys are incredible players and have phenomenal stats like Krama does BUT he’s not the same with us as he is with his club team.
.
I’m really hopeful we beat Malta and then settle down and have Rebic and Petkovic (even though he’s lazy, especially against teams that are organized in the back and play the ball well). Perisic and Rebic are both good at pressing, maybe we need someone like Budimir or Vlasic as a centre man up front and slide in Petkovic or Krama in behind.
Agree with needing to some U21 players to be integrated into the team. It’ll challenge some of the older players who seem to be taking their spots for granted. I was disappointed with both Brozo and Perisic this past 2 games. Both were not anywhere near how they can play. Throw in Basic….throw in Orsic.
Sosa at LB I’d like to see as well.
We need Rebic back and Petko would have been a great option these last two games. Krama could play off Petko but I’m
just not a fan. Completely selfish and you can see the lack of
chemistry with the repka. Decent option off the bench maybe.
You’re right about Gvardiol, Maminjo…he plays as if he’s already 25 and he makes a difference
Should we start recalling Marko pjaca the forgotten young man
He at least who have been hungry
Brozovic needs to get back on his medication – anger issues are evident.
I honestly think that we just need to call up a bunch of U21 talent and have them challenge our current starters.
.
Gvardiol being present will make Lovren and Vida a little nervous.
Toma Bašić or Nikola Moro will make Kovačić do the same.
Lovro Majer can play both ACM or wing, so I’d sub him in for Perišić or Krama regularly (if nothing is going on with these two). Even Ivanušec could play with the seniors.
Sosa and Bradarić would easily snag that LB role from Barišić.
.
I think that we’re overdue for integrating our top youth players into the first team.
.
Some of our existing young players who are on the first team already (like Brekalo) are getting a little too comfortable as well. We need some hungry players pressuring them for their jobs.
.
Livaković is a problem though. We handed him the job too easily. His goal kicks are horrible, and he has an panic attack on every high ball. We need to call up Ivušić from Osijek and give him a game at the next friendly.
Warning: You might cry. Luka legend.

Perisic quite simply plays better against better teams, teams that are going to come at you, it’s always been that way with him. He’s at his best when he can use his speed on counter attacks, and people that know the game know that those opportunities don’t present themselves against teams that bunker.
https://www.managingmadrid.com/2021/3/28/22298285/luka-modrics-incredible-football-journey-stems-from-his-selflessness-and-work-ethic
Luka Modrić is who we are.
Everyone step up to his commitment or step off!!
We’ve discussed, argued and debated. There’s a few things I want to clarify.
.
I’ve never felt confident or comfortable with Krama as our number 1 guy up front. You can post every stat you want about him, he’s never convinced me.
.
Barisic over Melnjak…not a real hard comparison if you ask me. Once again, you can tell me Melnjak plays in a shit league and that’s not convincing enough for me…I see what I see, the performances are there for all of us.
.
I’ve always said “we go as Perisic goes “ and as of right now, he’s not doing well and neither is the team. Perisic has always had mental blocks during certain periods.
.
Caleta Car is head and shoulders above anyone we have in central back, Dalic has to stop the bullshit going forward.
.
Pasalic is a sub and nothing more.
.
Vlasic has a lot of potential, I hope he asserts himself as a leader for us. He had many bad periods but it’s obvious he’s a player.
.
Livakovic is a damn nightmare with his feet. He scares me anytime a ball is played back to him. Totally shocking at how bad he is with his feet.
.
I don’t even consider Budimir as any part of our solution but I felt he worked hard today…and that’s exactly what we needed. He was good even if he didn’t score or come close to scoring.
.
Vrsaljko has many periods of shaky performances. I feel he’s always had some challenges but he can change gears in tournaments.
.
We do not have another general on the field…Modric is the only one. I remember lots of people shook off Rakitic and said he’s replaceable but I disagreed then and I do now, Rakitic was a fantastic player with soo many great attributes to his game and he helped Modric get some freedom on the fiend.
.
Remember the Mandzukic debates? How many brawls we had because I defended him snd many were done with him. Tell me, how handy would he be if he were here. He didn’t have to score to be effective…he made space and drew attention all the time. Irreplaceable if you ask me
Only 2 things came out from this game
Is Pasalic our new centre forward and ciro to replace Dalic
That’s how bad things have become
I never thought I would say this
We missed Rebic and Petkovic big time
Krama is finished for me
Maybe it’s the veteran guys except Modric that are the problem with this team sick of them half assing it. If they don’t show up on Tuesday in force and put in a convincing win then fucking Send them back to series a and the Bundesliga.
I have to laugh yes the only one that cares is Modric so what does that tell you it tells you the coach lost the plot someone needs to fire charge that locker room and they need to do it now
If they have to send someone home to send a message then do it. If you don’t want to play hard for the republic stay the fuck home. Bunch of prima donna Fanooks!
………Budimir……..Kramaric
Orsic………. Pasalic……Kovacic
……………….. Badelj
Perisic.. DCC… Uremovic… Juranovic
……………….Livakovic
The only certainty right now is that Zidane is fuming.
It is sad that we are wasting vintage Modrić.
Dalić is making basic adjustments but we need more ideas.
I want to see young hungry legs this Tuesday against Malta.
Malta played Slovakia straight up today.
We need maximum intensity from the kick off.
Modrić should be rested from the start.
One conclusion: We can’t pin our hopes on Vlasic. He is slow, short and brings no flow to the game. Once Modric leaves we are in big trouble.
How I miss Rakitic and Mandzukic. We lost two big players and no one has replaced them.
@Becar
i agree with everything u said. for me brozo and krama are the most disappointing. brozo is not hustling nearly enough for us as he does for inter. krama is just lost and cant link up with anyone on the team.
@BECAR
Yes I noticed that as well. Modric then punted the ball away in frustration after the final whistle. I feel for him, he’s really the only player who seems to give a shit. I really don’t understand why no one went up to try and knock a last one in at the end… just shows how much everyone on the field really cares.
.
If Slovakia can somehow beat Russia (after drawing Malta and Cyprus lmao) then we can get back into this group. We also need to hope for a poor showing from slovenia against Cyprus. I’d be happy if they drew.
haha ronaldo scored the winner in the 93rd minute but they didnt count it
Portugal was robbed. Ronaldo’s ball clearly crossed the goal line. How can there be no VAR in World Cup qualifying?
For me, the saddest moment came in the dying seconds. You’re hanging onto a one goal lead, deep into injury time and you win a corner. Modrić walks over to take it only to realize that every other teammate of his on the pitch is a complete idiot. The fact that he had to call someone over to take it short is inexcusable. So sad…..
Dalic has to go. I said it last game, I’ll say it again. He’s lost the dressing room. Trust me…..
.
Brozovic was terrible.
Barisic should never play again.
Vrsaljko all heart, no effect.
Juranovic should be the starter until/if Šime gets into form.
DCC is the goods. He MUST start from now on.
Budimir if useful.
Perisic was disappointing.
Pasalic scored one, should have scored 3.
Brekalo stinks.
Malta will definitely give Croatia a run for their money no doubt. Malta was able to tie Slovakia and lead. They also preformed well against Russia.
Malta has been very competitive in their first two matches in this group and our side has a history of struggling versus them. It will be a challenge on Tuesday.
They had a fairly decent Nations League campaign as well, all be it in the lower league. Think I had read somewhere they were unbeaten in 6 coming into this qualifying campaign.
Malta tied Slovakia LOL
wow serbs make 2 subs at half and totally different team 2-2 almost 3-2 serbs went up
how in the actual fuck was slovakia losing to malta by 2!?! theyre playing in slovakia and skriniar is starting. thats insane. they tied it up now, but if slovakia really is this bad since hamsik left, then russia will end up with 9 points at the end of the international break.
Orsic to start over Perisic please. And Badelj over Brozovic
We will get slaughtered at Euros. That was pitiful to watch and I’m surprised we got a win. Can someone please tell me why Perisic was starting?! None of his crosses were successful, he was slow and not engaged. If 3 shots on goal is all we can achieve against Cyprus then we won’t qualify. I’m calling it now. Russia will top and Slovenia will get second. Slovakia will lose to Malta which is good. Fire Dalic please. His old school mentality and game plans aren’t working anymore. If we’re being tactically outclassed always then it’s time for him to go. He’s has been the coach since October 2017. Time for Stipe fight
At this point just put Dinamo out there
Croatia’s play was fine – plenty of balls into the penalty area of both Slovenia and Cyprus.
Only players effective so far in trying to finish have been Pasalic with his headers and Orsic with his shooting.
The bigger issue is what used to be Croatia’s advantage. Our veterans view playing for the national team as a bothersome nuisance.
Club over country.
We also have to understand that of course a player will look better playing for his club – he’s with them all the time. Our players might all be Croatian, but, that means very little if you only play together a few times a year.
Need an example? Juranovic. You could just see and feel his enthusiasm and youth in wanting to perform well.
Not the most talented, but, it’s better to go with these younger players who have the motivation.
Can’t blame Dalic – he’s playing the guys you all would . Criticism of national team coaches makes absolutely no sense. They don’t have these players year round.
Their main job is to motivate.
Wow, convincing.
First qualifier I’ve missed in a long time and i cant say I’m sorry i did.
Dalic out!
another free header 2-0 portugal- serbias d looks terrible
Portugal goal looked like trying ground practice against serbs – Fernandes nice swinging cross for jota header – that euro group of death is gonna be something. chops could have there best team ever now with plenty of depth on the bench in former flops of past few years sanches that douchebag modric leg stomper having arguably best year of career at lille and same with andre silva who cooled off for long time but having good season at frankfurt not to mention nuno mendes, ruben neves, pedro neto joao felix. why i know so much about the chops- brothers, brother in law is Portuguese and doesn’t shut up about them lol he’s a lil biased but he aint wrong. they have quite a talented squad
Maminjo is gonna be mad…Dalic just said Melnjak will start next game
lol malta march madness hopefully pull of the upset !
Malta 2 – 0 Slovaki
btw @Tomislav your awesome brate ! thanks so much for the link ..worked just as well as dazn although I’m somewhat sad I witnessed that display from us
Oršić has the dynamic speed to put the defense on the heels.
Who needs to start Tuesday:
Juranovic
Oršić
Vlašić
Kovačić
Budimir
Brekalo
Car
Juranovic was impressive.
Explosive speed.
Active motive.
Looking to aggressively take the space.
Sharpness in the final third.
Kramaric ??
He looks like crap.
What happened to his first touch and close control.
We know he is small, weak and slow as Christmas.
And plays with no heart or energy.
But his touch was always good and in particular in the final third.
Please send Modrić back to Madrid now.
It’s embarrassing that he has to play all out against Slovenia and Cyprus.
💪💪💪💪STIPE💪🏆💪🏆💪🏆
Like I said, soccer is like that sometimes. I think we were all spoiled by our WC run and expect that all the time. That’s just not how it works. The ball is round. Anything can happen.
I’m just saying all the doomsday freaking out is a bit much.
My old man had a saying ‘ak su bolji budu pobjedili.’
That’s it. If they’re better they’ll win, if not, who gives a shit. It’s just a game.
Let’s keep things in perspective.
You’re right Cigan, Juranovic was really good today.
.
Stari, what makes you think Portugal was happy with their result…even though they won. Also, Azerbaijan has a history of being extremely tough to play against.
.
The fact is that we slowed the game down in the second half and that’s just a horrible strategy when you need to gain confidence and get goals…that’s a simple and easy thing to understand. Whenever we do this, we always suffer…NEVER in any era has this been a good strategy for us unless we are getting totally dominated and we are trying to stop the fast tempo of the game.
Juranovic was somehow the best player on the pitch today. dude passed up and nutmeged cpyrus players like 3 different times which led to counters. his passes were crisp and he never misplaced a pass. defensively never got passed up and had some good tackles. when i saw vrsaljko getting subbed out i rolled my eyes. but i was pleasantly surprised
@Stari I don’t mind “enjoying the ride” if it’s entertaining win, lose or tie, but this type of soccer is stale, unattractive, and tactically inept.
The ride the last 18 months has been chalk full of potholes and red lights.
Portugal only beat Azerbaijan 1-0 in Portugal this week. Do you think they are freaking out too. Also, in last Euro, Portugal didn’t win one game in the group stage and went on to win it all. Soccer is like that sometimes.
Dudes relax. Enjoy the ride.
The teams that have been sailing through qualifications usually shit the bed come tournament time…belgium, England.
Our way is better even if it is more nerve wracking.
Bog i Hrvati
HammerHrvat,
Dalic win percentage is crap. He’s clueless tactically and his lineups are terrible. People need to get over their honeymoon phase from the World Cup. He’s not a good coach, as hard as that is for some to believe.
What was the Ćaleta-Car mistake that led to the Cyprus chance?
.
I walked away for a bit and missed it.
Stop blaming Dalić! They are not tanking on purpose. Cyprus just tied Slovakia and narrowly lost to us. They are a better team than their ranking indicates. Cyprus may be able to steal some points versus the Slovenci. They will probably give the game to the Russians (5-0) as Russia, their Orthodox brethren, are their protectors against the Turci.
Sometimes it just doesn’t flow. If there’s anyone to blame, it’s the players.
We will either win the group or come second and go into the playoffs.
Normal Croatian underachieving qualifying campaign.
In both our deep World cup runs we had to play in the playoffs. It’s just the way we do things. It’s almost as if we don’t play well unless it’s do or die.
We have a lot of decent, but not truly talented players on this squad (and quite a few on the field today).
..
Juranovic played well, but he’s not a real talent. Same as Barisic. Even Budimir (who was good today) isn’t some great talent either.
Pasalic is a hard worker, but he messed up a couple of chances too. Glad he scored, but same goes for him in terms of true quality.
.
We need to tap into our youth a bit and see what guys like Majer, Gvardiol, Sosa, etc can do at senior NT level, and how well they mesh with our other elite talent like Modric, Perisic, and Brozovic.
.
We gotta focus on adding to the creativity and technically gifted players at every position.
Too many lame crosses today, and poor attempts on goal.
.
If even half of those 18 attempts even made it on goal, this would be a blowout victory. None of our crosses were good. All of them too strong, or just away from any threat.
I think we are confusing two issues.
Our play is fine
Our finishing is atrocious. Nobody seems ready when they are nicely setup to score.
Where are our strikers?
If I’m a betting man, I think Dalic either resigns or is let go over the next few days. Give a new coach a game to ease into vs. a cupcake like Malta and then just gear up for the Euro.
Slabo, dečki !
Zero threat up front. Need Bull/China/Shop/Rebić back to raise hell.
Pathetic, no ideas, no creativity, needed a gift mistake and a cold GK coming off the bench to score against CYPRUS. Plus thankfully Cyprus was impotent in finishing pretty clear cut chances.
Needing to delay the game and buy time in the last 5-10 minutes against CYPRUS? Embarrassing. That game needed to be an emphatic 3-0+ Win to show the game against Slovenia was a fluke.
Clearly was not a fluke and change needs to be made ASAP. I know we are perennial underperformers but at some point the warning lights flashing need to be recognized and something needs to be done. This team is out of ideas and will be laughed off the pitch at the euros.
I guess as Croats we are supposed to fire our coaches every two years or so, lol.
Past their expiration date.
The best part about today was the link Tomislav provided, it was perfect end not a single glitch…as if I watched it on cable.
.
Folks, whether you want to accept it or not, we have issues. Our depth is nowhere near many believe it is. We don’t have a solid plan, we keep using plans that don’t suit us or where we use players that can’t execute the plan…either way, the team is mid managed and disorganized.
.
Our attack is toothless. How many Olic and Mandzukic haters would take them back now? At least they worked 90 minutes and we didn’t prance like prima donna’s.
.
I will need a heart transplant if this continues. We can’t chalk these types of performances up to “we always do this during qualifying “…we should be better but we look toothless…and in my opinion it’s all because things are totally mismanaged!
Croatia looks like what they were before Dalic was hired. I’m guessing they stick with him for the Euros, and when they don’t make it out of the group, they replace him for the WC qualifiers in the fall.
18 total attempts, 3 on target
.
LOL. Gotta do better than that.
They are tanking on purpose. Cant you see???
Dalic is such a good coach. So much better then Niko Kovac right? LOL.
This team is in big trouble.
Can we bring that Cyprus defender who made that mistake to start as our forward for the next match? Only guy able to score for us.
Dalic is a poor tactician. Just doesn’t seem to have the wherewithal to be able to make the proper adjustments on the fly.
If I’m the other teams in the group right now, I am very confident of my chances against this side.
Embarrassing to beat a team ranking outside of the top 100, at home by a single goal.
Normalna kvalifikacija za Hrvatsku. Nemojte se bojati.
Bog i Hrvati
The last half hour was just suddenly messy.
.
Yea, Cyprus started pressuring, which led to bad passes… but then we stopped passing as much and we were content to sit back a bit with the 1-0 lead.
.
It all happened around the time we made three substitutes.
.
Maybe it killed our chemistry, I dunno.
that was painful to watch
ciro in the stands haha !
Pathetic performance
kramaric has been horrible lol shoulda kept budimir in. Thought he’d create something decent of a chance, I was wrong
Vlasic, Orsic and Juranovic are all doing well but the level of pressure and intensity has significantly dropped…not affording the attack and consistent pressure. I’m sad to say this but I really hope we have an alternative for Dalic
from a defensive blunder and perhaps a 2nd string goalie giving us the luck to beat a team ranked 100th in the world
The national team is in trouble. Changes need to be made ASAP to try and salvage this moving forward. Need new eyes and direction from the coaching staff. Youth needs to be played NOW. This loyalty to older guard needs to stop.
Guys obviously there is something wrong.
I hate to say it but it looks like to me they
are playing bad to send a message. They will
Make it known by this lousy play not locker room
Gossip. They want Dalic out!
Pretty underwhelming that we are having to see the last 5 minutes out just to scrape by to beat Cyprus by the narrowest of margines, at home no less.
Yea, you can’t just sit on a 1-0 lead.
Not sure why the intensity and good passing game stopped after the 60th minute.
Cyprus turned up the pressure…but maybe it was the multiple sub made by Dalic too.
brozovic is an asshole
At least orsic shoots from distance. I can respect that.
Games like this are bad for my health
They got one, and they screwed it up. Could have easily been 1-1.
Cyprus need 1 lucky break and we are fucked
all of our shots are off target. That Vlasic shot was the first one on target all game, lol
Vlasic and Juranovic both lively and energetic…at least something positive
Yikes, Kovacic coming in.
Oh majke mi mile, pa sta je ovo?
Too many of our guys are trying to make individual efforts to dribble through the crowd.
Just go back to playing that passing game like in the first half.
Cyprus are turning up the effort and pressure, so we’re making a few bad passes here and there.
I feel we always play better when we are pushing forward and trying to attack. Once we start trying to manage the game at a slower pace and control a slower tempo…we always end up screwing up and looking horrible
barisic scarred to beat that guy one on one?
Yea, things are getting a bit messy now.
.
They just need to calm down and continue to play that passing game.
Barisic having bad game and that yellow on perisic he had nowhere to go ? bullshit
Any team other than Cyprus and we are losing this game 3-0 now. Garbage.
This looks like a fucking disorganized disaster again! WTF is going on…I’m so disheartened by the complete change of tactics and slowing the play down.
Fire Dalic after the match. Needed to be done months upon months ago. Man is lost in how to manage this side. Gets romanticized for a WC run. The guy sucks.
atleast theyre are trying to take dives in the box!
Barisic can’t deliver a cross for the life of him.
One mistake and we are screwed .
@Bobby
.
Yea he had that very nice run on the right side that could have been a goal.
.
Let’s see how he is defensively though.
Now Krama with a CRANKED shot into the sky lol
How is Dalic still employed? We have been terrible pretty much since the WC and he’s still in charge. What a complete joke. Should have been fired ages ago.
1-0 against Cyprus. How far has Croatia fallen?
Well there goes our pressing with Budimir getting subbed out for Krama. Hopefully Krama and his selfish ways can pot one.
Juranovic very impressive so far.
Whoa we subbed in Juranovic? lol
Ah Barisic.
.
Another CRANKED shot straight up into the sky.
.
Just put it toward goal, dammit.
I think I passed the ball better when I was 6 years old than Brekalo does now. Just awful every time.
@ Maminjo – Yes ion Petkovic against a bunker.
Brekalo van
I think we will beat Russia…if for any reason it will be pride!
Maminjo, im really worried about Russia.. obviously as we saw in the WC they arent easily defeated.. gonna be an issue playing them away and even potentially at home : /
@Iggy
.
Yea but if Russia loses to Slovakia next game, we’re all square and the group becomes a shit show like the last one lol.
So long as we do not sub in Kovacic, we’ll be fine.
.
He will hold the ball too long. Plus, we have Caleta-Car back there, so we don’t need Kovacic to drop back and start the play.
And Russia beats Slovenija as per expectation, meaning it’s gonna be hard for us… sigh… beating Russia away from home is no easy feat
Petkovic would have been amazing for this.
.
Big striker, but with elite dribbling in these tight spaces.
Agreed. The crosses will eventually connect. We also need to actually hit the target to test the keeper, and the results will come.
No way. Budimir is perfect for games like this.
Budimir is working hard, I’m not sure I’d sub him to be honest
@Lovro
.
I don’t understand why (in a game like this) we feel like we need to CRANK the shot full blast.
.
This is why I like Vlasic. He focuses more on ensuring his shots hit the target.
We had a few decent chances, but blasted them so far and wide.
.
It’s a crowded box, and we’re pressuring them. Just get it on target. Someone like Budimir or Pasalic will clean up the rebound if it bounces off a few legs.
Subs
Vlasic for Pasalic
Kamaric for Budimir
Iggy, we are playing well bro…we just need to keep up the intensity and flow of play and we will tear through bunkers
Okay first half.
.
Dominating possession and (more importantly) not letting Cyprus get comfortable the moment they get the ball.
They are playing with much more urgency and pressure.
.
Crosses and shots on goal are still bad this game.
Crosses are just too high or wide, and they had a few shots on net that were just completely off target.
.
Pasalic scored off a defensive error from a cross, thanks to our pressure.
Budimir also score on one too, but was ruled just barely offside.
.
If they keep this up, they will win. The focus right now is to keep the pressure going, and sub out anyone who is being complacent, hesitant and not playing with any urgency.
We must keep the transition from defense to attack going without slowing down the play and allowing the other teams to adjust defensively
Pašalić is not fast but he is athletic and aggressive in the final third.
Budimir hustle to keep it alive and of course Modrić with the spot on play to make it happen.
Car is a beast.
LB has been our weakness for 20 years!!
We need a legit attacking LB.
Every team we play seems to leave our LB acres of space.
Where is the next Robert Jarni?
We need someone that can explode down the left flank and wreak havoc.
Dalic is doing his best.
Can we please rest Modrić now.
Still have a problem scoring against a bunker. Orsic would be your best option. He can shoot from distance ( poor Modric was at least trying) and create quick one-two passes in the area.
Fuck, If Modric hit the target on that volley earlier, the ball would have broke through the netting, or knocked the keeper out.
Yeah i think we can all agree we aren’t playing well… but i guess we have to hope for a win anyways despite our bad play
Livakovic is sooo hesitant with high balls, lol.
.
Cyprus gets a free kick, and they just kick it high into the box…Livakovic makes a few steps forward to catch it, then changes is mind halfway and backpeddles toward his line ha ha.
.
That Cypriot player connected on it, but it was weak. Livakovic would have looked pretty stupid if that was a good header.
Offside I think.
@Maminjo
I think that’s part of the problem. Three players…Vlasic, Krama & Pasalic play the same position. You can move Vlasic around a bit bit all three aren’t nearly as effective anywhere else.
Why did that Budimir goal get called off?!?
There’s a guy on the Cyprus team who has my name “Ilia” heheh
@Eric
.
Yea, he runs well without the ball.
But we can’t play him in any other position that Vlasic’s role.
YES PASALIC!!!!
He may not always put them away, but the kid always seems to find himself in the right place.
@Stipe
.
Come on now.
.
They’re playing with intensity and pressure the entire half, and didn’t slow down.
It was only a matter of time until Cyprus messed up.
.
So long as we keep the intensity going, that Cypriot defense will screw up.
Finally Brekalo kept the attack going forward and we scored off his work. 5 minutes ago he had a 3 vs 3 counter attack and he stopped the play, leading to another nothing outcome.
^ That was me
Oh, Pasalic goal lol.
.
Now Dalic is going to start him every game lol. We’re fucked.
😉
Better than the Slovenia game in terms of controlling possession and squashing any possible counter attacks (Slovenia had quite a few good runs at us on the counter).
Crosses and shots on goal this game have been weak. We’re just cranking them. Crosses seem to be too high or strong, and we had a few good shots on goal that we seem to just crank at full strength.
Intensity is good though. Not slowing down, and not letting Cyprus have the ball for even a second to gather themselves.
If we can’t score by halftime, we need to get Vlasic in there and keep this going.
No Kovacic though. That guys is the opposite of intensity.
About faaaaken time! Although I’m not a huge Pasalic fan he does score. Ajmo!
Haha. We need for Cyprus to score for us – haha
I’m going to hope Cyprus takes points away from Russia and Slovenia. This is a qualifying group we should win in the end, but…
Pasalić!
Same old shit – can’t score against a bunker. Three shots on goal against Slovenia, zero so far against Cyprus.
We dominated Slovenia too.
We are playing like shit… we will be lucky to draw at this rate
I don’t see this as any better then the Slovenia game save for that goal.
@Anonymous
.
Yup. All of Duje’s passes are FORWARD passes.
.
Also, the last game…we needed Broz or Kovacic to come back and do what he’s doing.
Now they don’t have to do that, and can focus on being midfielders.
Not the same old shit.
.
Croatia is dominating and Cyprus hasn’t even come close to creating a single chance.
If it keeps up like this, Croatia will win.
.
But they need to keep this level of intensity all game. If they start to drop off, then it’s an issue.
This is Cyprus so I’m not really excited about what I see but I wanted to make a point about Caleta Car…he’s calm and distributes the ball very well!
Same old shit. And you guys are worried about formations and who our defenders are?
Not the time right now Iggy!
.
But yea, she was supposed to be very good. Had all the talent. Good to see her (hopefully) making a full recovery.
Ana Konjuh has come back from a devestating injury and she looks good as fuck, beating #16 Swiatek
https://sportsbay.org/watch/101255/1/ana-konjuh-vs-iga-swiatek-live.html
Good pressure. We’re getting called alot for close offsides, but it’s just a matter of time until we don’t and get a good chance.
Anytime
Pasalic should have buried that header
Tomislav, your link works on my smart tv…thanks bro!
Right now I’m watching the pre game without a VPN, try the link above and see for yourself
I have DAZN but I’m totally dumb when it comes to things like VPN
How long this VPN stuff take? LOL.
“U” will have access via your dazn acct.
If you’re in Canada and have a dazn acct, VPN to Germany …. I will have access to all qualifiers via dazn
Thanks very much gbvh and Tomislav!
You can watch it on https://gol.dnevnik.hr/clanak/hrvatska-reprezentacija/prijenos-hrvatska-cipar-kvalifikacije-za-svjetsko-prvenstvo-uzivo-na-gol-hr-u-i-novoj-tv—645288.html
You may have to hide you IP address by downloading a VPN on your device.
I use it for every game and the quality is great.

Had to try a couple times on their different options and had to battle a couple pop-ups, but eventually found an almost perfect stream.

Ajmo!
^ Thanks for the agreement! 😉
Where can I watch the game? UEFA.TV is not showing it
If Pašalić and Barišić are not doing anything, I would love to see Vlašić, Krama and Oršić subbed in and we try that more offensive lineup that someone posted yesterday (with Krama at second striker behind Budimir, and Perišić/Oršić combo covering that left side).
Pašalić in the starting eleven over Vlašić? Really?
.
Well, at least they got him in the right position this time. Dalić seems to really love experimenting with Pašalić at CDM and the wing.
.
Good to see our boy Duje in there.
However, we do lose talent by sitting both Vlašić and Krama.
.
I guess Dalić is (kind of) listening to us, by not playing Krama as a target man and actually having our wingers play their proper roles.
However, we still could try and adjust the formation to include more talented players.
.
Good to see Duje in there, but I would like to see a lineup where Barišić can be replaced by the infinitely better talent we have on the bench.
A draw by our opponents is always best.
.
This just means that we absolutely need 4 points in our two games we play with Russia.
We can get the Slovenci back in Zagreb.
.
It’s still early, but it’s never good when one team begins to run away with it early. Gotta hope Slovakia and Russia draw in their next game.
The Russian win is ok for us. Much better than a Slovenian victory.
HRVATSKA (4-3-3): Livaković – Vrsaljko, Lovren, Ćaleta-Car, Barišić – Modrić, Brozović, Pašalić – Brekalo, Budimir, Perišić.
Today’s lineup
Hopefully Slovenia can tie this up. I don’t want Russia running away in this group.
RE: His moments** should of proof read lol
•
Should “of” proof read …… indeed.
2-1 Russia at the half. Slovenia has 51% possession right now. Stats-wise, it looks to be an even game.
His moments** should of proof read lol
Don’t understand how people don’t consider perisic World
class – (he’s has bud moneys when he’s switched on and off) and perhaps not as consistent as Rakitic) Luka we all know is our engine #1 but perisic over the past 3 major tourneys has scored the most goals and arguably been up there with Modric as our best player. The England game was phenomenal by the whole team but perisic literally took the game into his own hands by scoring that cobra Kai goal and out jumping/winning the header that set up MandZo game winning goal
Russia-Slovenia on live now on UEFA.TV, FYI.
0-0 in 16th.
Budimir
Orsic Modrić Kramaric
Brozovic Kovacic
Perisic DCC Lovren Vrsaljko
Livakovic
Cyprus is ranked 100 by FIFA.
If we don’t win by 3 goals, we have a serious problem.
If Dalic is smart he will bunker against Cypress Hills
Not only do we not have a Boksic, although he was not a prolific scorer, we have a gifted midfielder like Kovacic who scores less goals than Vida. Why can’t Kramaric just play striker for us?
I can’t believe that Croatia was in the final 2 years ago and now all our hopes are on Ante Budimir.
I must be confusing Brozo and Krama sorry,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KN5z3rb8k0
Can you imagine if our team had like an Alen Boksic in it? Geez.. we’d be unbeatable : )
Hopefully we re-enact that friendly we played away to Russia a couple years back where we smashed them 3-1 on their own ground and Krama was a hero
I can’t believe people are saying how good Slovenia is defensively. Are you guys serious? Look who they played in the last nine games or so! It’s really nobody, sure they didn’t concede goals. We should be crushing the teams in this group. We haven’t looked good at all since the World Cup. We got killed by France and Portugal which proves how far behind we are to being world class. We’re in trouble if this type of play continues.
Based on what we saw against Slovenia, if I were the coach, I’d put out a 4-1-3-2 of:
Vrsaljko, Lovren, DCC, Perisić; Brozović; Modrić, Pasalić, Orsić; Kramarić, Budimir.
The reason? These were the players who made the most impact moving the ball forward and threatening the goal. We likely will control the ball 70% against Cyprus and Malta. The challenge is in overwhelming the defense. I wish Dalić had gone into the Slovenia game with this approach, but even so, maybe we come out of this week top of the group. The other teams in the group all are capable of stalemates, so let’s hope that everyone else splits points while we win the next two. Football has gotten so ugly with these defensive tactics… Imagine a world cup full of teams that can only defend. No fun!
We don’t need any defenders against teams that bunker.
Let me be the lone warrior here who wants to see Pasalic in there. We score when he plays…
Croatia loses to Slovenia and two days later we don’t need our 2nd best midfielder.
@Cigan
.
Yes, this will be a messy group. Just like the last one we were in.
After we tie Cyprus tomorrow and Dalic gets fired, you will listen to what I have to say about what’s going on right now with Croatian soccer players.
Lol, not meaningless game… But one where we don’t really need him.
Yea hopefully Brozović gets himself an intentional yellow.
.
He’s done it before, in order to miss a meaningless game.
Budimir
Brekalo Vlasic Perisic
Modric Brozovic
Barisic Caleta-Car Lovren Vrsajlko
Livakovic
Expect an early intentional yellow for Brozovic so he sits out the Malta game and has a clean slate for Russia/Slovakia.
FYI first time in history we’ve lost a opening qualifying game for world cup and second loss in all time qualifier’s. Slovenia beat us for once. Good news is, we have a decent record against Slovakia and Russia.
Ya, Mandžo would have come in handy, but I think Rebić would have broken through the bunker. We just needed some aggression, and quicker passes to create the chances.
@Armada @ Maminjo
Absolutely agree. Modric and Kova simply cannot play together unless one plays further forward. Very similar to the Modric Rakitic situation of past years but eventually they put it together for the WC. It’s too bad as Kova has the tools to play in a more attacker role as he’s not a ball winner.
I like Dalic (it’s a Livno thing) but his attempts to get creative just simply don’t work. Although the Perisic at LWB isn’t a bad thing given Conte pushed him into that role.
We need to play players in their position. As for Krama…it’s either him or Vlasic behind a target man…do we ever miss Mandza…
my prediction:
.
russia beats slovenia, russia ties slokavia, slovenia might tie cyprus.
.
Points at the end of this international break:
.
Russia-7
Croatia-6
Slovakia-5
Slovenia-4
Cyprus-2
Malta-0
.
One result in our favour was that the Slovaks tied 0-0 with Cyprus on Wednesday.
i actually think wee are gonna be okay (as per usual) .. slovenija and russia gonna draw i think (hopefully)
Iggy I actually remember watching that video at the actual time
Great memories of a better time
Gents the signs are not good
The result against needed to be a draw
We should have rallied to score at least an equaliser
I know we have slip ups but not on the very first match
So that means there will be more slips ups
Let’s hope Slovenija Slovaks and Russia drop points against each other and even against the minnows
Apparently Biscan was criticised for bunkering down against Portugal
Perhaps he’s not our next coach
Ideally for us would be a Slovenia-Russia draw. We want Slovenia, Slovakia and Russia drawing as many times as possible between themselves. If Russia goes off and wins every game against those two teams we could be in a lot of trouble.
Just play this in the dressing room.
The boys will be fine.

Lucy Zelic gets emotional about Hrvatska’ final appearance : )
this is the most balanced lineup we can field vs cyprus:
.
.
…………………..Budimir…………………
Perisic……….…..Vlasic……….…..Orsic
……………Brozo………Modric………….
Barisic………Caleta….Lovren…..Vrsaljko
………………….Livakovic………..………
.
.
Subs: Krama for vlasic, pasalic for budimir, brekalo for perisic, kova for modric
.
.
Looking at tomorrow’s games and into the future in terms of games in this group…
.
Do we want Russia and Slovenia to tie tomorrow? Or perhaps one of them to win?
.
We’ll have a huge test with the games after the Euro in early September. Russia (could be H or A), Slovenia (H) and Slovakia (H or A). All in the span of a week… By then, we should know if we’re trending or we’re in 1st or needing to catch up to whoever is in first.
.
Assuming that last game we have vs. Russia will decide the group? Do we know if that is in Russia or Croatia? Not seeing locations for quals after the Euro’s.
Razbijač, i think we win.. maybe keep an eye on the other games, we obviously need Slo and Rus to not win their games from now on.. playing Russia away won’t be easy for sure
Yeah they lacked urgency against Slovenia, in the next two games they’re gonna play like someone shoved a rocket up their arses!
.
I hate to say it, but seems that Croatia only come out to play when their backs are up against the wall!
.
And Maminjo, oh he hasn’t lost the team (yet). As he has conveniently installed players like Vida and Lovren in the Captains-Suite. So they have Dalic’s full support, with the knowledge that if someone else comes in they could lose their starting spots and be stripped of captaincy.
I’d be very surprised if we didn’t win both games.
.
I don’t think Dalić lost the team, and they’ll work harder now that they lost that first one.
.
Yes, even though they had 70% possession against Slovenia, a lot of it was them taking a very long time to set up and create a chance. They’ll play with more urgency and hopefully they don’t hesitate push forward.
If we don’t collect all 6 points, it’s time for a new coach….we laid a massive egg in our first game!
.
According to SN only 3 teams in the last 23 years finished in first place of their qualifying group after losing the first game.
.
The last time we lost our first game in a qualifying cycle, we didn’t qualify for that tourney (lost against Ireland, Tourney Euro 2000).
.
So no more eggs laying!! I know Easter coming up but save till then!!
Maminjo, i know u think we need to start DCC.. what do u think is the percentage chance it actually happens tho? 20, 50, 70?
Also, do you think we win these two games?
My view is we will win them both and as per usual when the chips are down perform okay… i posted that vid up there.. even the ’98 team barely qualified, it seems to be the Hrvat way unfortunately to struggle through
well it’s been a while since I’ve been around. business has jsut been roaring so I’ve been able to observe but not participate
a couple quick notes from the slovenia game to help educate the crowd
firstly, i know we’ll go to the usual no-heart narrative, but the effort looked fined to me. croatia played like the better team with 70% position, more shots… slovenia just so happened to hit one in . and then once you play against the slovenian bunker, it’s going to be hard. slovenia has not lost in its last 9 games and barely gives up goals
secondly, wow is modric so much better than all our other players. the guy just has a spark of creativity that the others simply do not have… and one can’t help but fear what does the team look like post modric
overall qualifying odds for croatia for the world cup stand around 50%. another loss we’re going to see that drop to about 35%, so hold on tight for the next big match up
Budimir is starting
@Hrmic
.
Yea, I’d like to see that lineup.
.
Lovren and Vida still scare me, but adding Duje in there makes it better.
.
I think Krama has too much quality not to start, and I always liked what Bruno brings. We need to find a way to harness this.
Two ELITE technical players up top would be fun to watch.
My only concern is that Krama is not a willing passer, but I guess Hoffenheim deal with that too and he’s still a large net positive for him. We have to see how they play together. We might be pleasantly surprised.
.
We simply cannot start Kovacic though. I would rather have the front man up top, and Krama plays deep anyway. Caleta-Car being in the back will do essentially the exact same thing that Kovacic was doing all game last time. We need to stick with the trio that has worked (Modric, Broz, Vlasic) and not mess with it.
.
I hope we can test this out in a friendly when Bruno comes back from injury.
We need to start Caleta-Car, who can just send longballs into the box (and not 50/50 punts)
Start our fastest defender next to Caleta-Car in case he gets caught on a counter attack.
Start ACTUAL wingers on each wing position to get wide.
.
Have the rest of the team crowd into the box, and just dive all game claiming penalty every chance they get.
.
Once a penalty is received, do NOT give it Modric (just Kramaric, our best penalty kick taker).
😉
Thanks Iggy!
I needed that
If Anyone was cheering us to win was Madrid and zidane
Now Luka has to play the next two
Well better a wake up call now then at euro
@Croat Canadian
Grbic wasn’t even called up
Dalic chose Kalinic and Sluga over him
Interesting line up Hrmic
@Croat Canadian
Sosa has never played for the senior team and was on the U21 Euro roster. Needless to say, you won’t see him in the next two games. Also he’s injured.
.
Has Grbic even played more than 2 games in the last year or so? Probably the reason he wasn’t even called up by Dalic. You won’t see him either tomorrow.
.
I think DCC is the most obvious change. The rest probably depends on when was their last club game. I know Inter’s last game was postponed so maybe we see Brozo again. I think Luka could use the rest but maybe too important to rest.
Livakovic hasn’t been that bad. Our defending is just horrendous.
As I said on the other thread, I would like to see us try a 3-4-2-1. This is the game to experiment against a weaker opponent and see if it works for us. Play Perisic and Vrsaljko as wingbacks and Brozovic and Modric in centre-mid. Play 3 centerbacks with Lovren, Caleta-Car, and Vida or anyone younger and better. Play Kramaric in attacking-mid, which is where he plays for Hoffenheim most of the time and still scores. Play Vlasic in the other attacking-mid position as he has a nose for goal. Play Budimir in the target man role but ideally this would normally be Petkovic. Now we have three guys in the box to look for on crosses and if there are any knockdowns from the crosses. Kovacic can be used as a sub when one of our centre-mids tire and Orsic and Brekalo be can be subs for our wingbacks. Rebic would be good in one of our attacking-mid roles or on the wing when he returns. Pasalic would be a good sub for our attacking-mids.
If we can’t smack Cyrus, might as well not even compete. Russia and Slovenia will outperform us if we continue this. Here’s my lineup: Grbic, Sosa, Vrsaljko, Caleta-Car Jurnaovic, Modric, Badelj, Brozovic. Vlasic, Orsic and Budimir upfront
I am interested in our lineup but I’m more interested in the “plan”…Cyrpus will bunker…we need to play fast and spread them out….something we didn’t do vs Slovenia.
Thanks for that post Iggy! We must never forget the original Vatreni generation!
Also Zlatan had the attitude. He
Would pay back opponents with
Judo chops. We would have at least
Made every knock out round the last
Four tournaments and deeper.
Boo boo had such great finesse with the ball.
Too bad injuries limited him.
Zlatan was the next guy after Suker but
He thought he was Swedish. We would have
Been so much better with him.
I get Kovacic is great at Chelsea, but this reminds me of the scenario that Rakitic and Modric had, prior to 2018. Rakitic would be in all-world form for Sevila and Barca, came to the NT and could never jive really with Luka in the middle. Mateo is in that same condrum now. Plays a very similar game to what Luka gives us and honestly, we don’t need that and we have a very good DM in Broz, so we don’t need another midfielder hanging back. We need someone who can push the envelope (kinda like what we’ve seen from Vlasic).
.
I obviously want the full 6 points from these games, but honestly, I want the foot on the acelator for the full 90 minutes with each game. Give me a few 3-0, 4-1 wins here and get us on a positive trajectory as we gear up for the Euro.
.
I’d just feel like some ‘win by the skin of our teeth’ 1-0 scoreline vs. a garbage side like Malta or Cyprus wouldn’t ‘feel’ as big of a win as it would if we really hammered both sides.
Maminjo: i thoroughly expect some beatdowns now, i expect
(a) Cro to smash Cyprus
(b) Cro to narrowly defeat Malta
(c) Stipe to yet again cleverly defeat Francis, before retiring on the night and hence ruining Dana’s plans.
Rebić kinda does what Bokšić did, but with brutal finishing lol
I think we forget how good Boksic was
That dude was such a warrior and legend hey.. imagine if we had a Boksic now! We’d be cruising!
That brutal challenge on Modrić Wednesday.

Unleash the might of Brekalo.
Ask him to wear a rainbow before
A match and watch his explosive
Reaction on the pitch
We better see a couple of 3-0 beatdowns
Ilicic is playing for the flag of the country that in his own words “gave his family everything.”
Like I always say, dont ask what you can do for your country, ask what your country can do for you.
My only beef with our lineup on Wed was no DCC but I understand going with the tried, tested, and in form Vida against an inform opponent. Regardless with 3 matches in 7 days, Dalic will surely rotate the starters.
.
Unfortunately for Kova, I agree that him and Modric are not easily playable together. One needs to be willing to venture into the attacking third more. Maybe Modric needs to adjust and trust his teammate enough that he reframes from dropping deep too often and stick between the oppositions lines.
.
Same with Krama, if he’s gonna to drop deep than Perisic and Vlasic need to take his position occupying the CBs. Like many previously said, a lot of crosses that didn’t lead to good scoring opportunities.
.
I will say that Krama always seems to bounce back after a poor showing for the Repka…
@ Iggy
This is your best post ever!!
It’s amazing how stacked with world class attacking players we were in ‘98.
Bokšić – Boban – Šuker – Prosinečki – Asanović.
There is a reason we struggle to score.
We are not stacked in the attacking third.
I see now that the system has to have Modrić deployed as a true #10.
He needs to be surrounded by speed and industry.
At 35 he is still our only world class player.
He is the only current player that would start in ‘98.
Over the years we have had debate over who is a world class player.
Only Modrić and Rakitic are on that level.
And they happened to play the same position.
When I look at how good Bokšić – Boban – Šuker – Prosinečki – Asanović were, I am always struck by there physical presence along with their technical abilities.
Vlahović and Jarni were thoroughbreds.
Štimac and Stanić were monsters.
Soldo and Bilić were towering figures.
I am convinced the secret to Modrić is his lower body power that allows for quick movements in tight spaces.
You cannot move him off the ball unless you foul him of which the referee in that Portugal match allowed all game.
Ante Budimir needs to start this weekend.
At least he shows physical presence.
Kramaric is a super sub who can score but cannot set the tone.
Oršić wants to run and make something happen.
If Brozovic is not going to run his skinny legs all over the pitch then he sits.
Perišić is our LB.
Vrsaljko needs reps to release the rust.
Dalic gets paid for this? He needs to have some ideas?
Kralj Kek showed us what a world class coach can do to impact a result.
That was a master class of deploying your team to win.
Ilicic is a nogometaš playing for the wrong flag.
Ibrahimović once again playing for the wrong flag.
Pulisic ..
Three guys who would light up the attacking third.
Not sure who will be in that lineup, but I expect 2 clean sheets and at least 5 goals for between the 2 games. I can see Dalic going all out offensively thinking that Cyprus and Malta will not be much of an offensive threat. He knows his job is on the line and the nation needs a huge morale boost heading into Euros. Another interesting issue is, we have a ton of guys on yellows and our next matches after Malta, are against Russia and Slovakia in September. A lot to think about when the pressure is on and 6 points are essential with your shot to pad goal differential (playing weakest teams on home soil) is at stake.
Call up Stipe Perica against these teams that bunker so he can head in the crosses.
When i was a kid in the 90s (Aussie kids will get this) i remember just before the 98 WC started, SBS having a profile on Hrvatska that was really cool… and i finally found some dude who uploaded it now, 23 years later, in YouTubbies, i love this profile and this team, amazing hey!

The question should be who do we do not want and who should be in charge
That is the lineup we need to play. Sucks that we just don’t have a world class striker. Causes huge problems
After watching the U21s play today, we’d be better off with Vuskovic and Erlic as the back two. I trust that DCC can do the job though
Out of respect for the nation, Vida needs to fucken retire
