It wasn’t pretty for Croatia’s #1 Tuesday night in Manchester. The French Ligue 1 leaders picked up a tough draw in the Champions League Round of 16 with Danijel Subašić and company knowing they would need to be at their absolute best to get past Manchester City.
It was looking ‘okay’ for Monaco early as Falcao quickly equalized the game at 1-1 in the 32nd minute off a diving header and then found himself at the penalty spot at the 50-minute mark; with a chance to put his side up 3-1 and in complete control of the two-match tie. However, with the game 2-1 in Monaco’s favor, Falcao would send a lazy penalty kick to the right which was saved by City keeper Caballero.
And it was all over after that with Manchester City scoring four goals with 24 minutes of the second half to cap off an amazing 5-3 comeback. Falcao would add a second goal to his name with an incredible chip, but it wouldn’t be enough as Monaco now need a 2-goal win at home to move onto the quarterfinals.
Subašić was left high and dry on four goals as the defense was simply not there, but Aguero’s goal to make it 2-2 was an absolute blunder by Suba (4:25 in the video). It was a routine parry that he should have made with the ball coming right at him but he got caught flat footed on the play. Monaco will only have themselves to blame as they could have easily bunkered in the return leg with City having to do all the work. Now the roles have reversed.
FULL MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
Good point about the 10 men.
Yeah he’s nice and direct. Definitely a useful weapon.
@Pog- You would be right but Porto was down to 10 men from the 27th minute.
Pjaca looked great cutting into the center of the field on several occassions, whereas nobody else was able to break the fortified defense Porto was forced to play. The goal was great, but the lead up was better.
Nothing embarrassing about drawing at Porto and his goal was nothing special. The deflected pass fell right into his path. None the less, scoring does wonders for ones confidence.
@Ante – by saying Suba sucked, I thought I was agreeing with you. That said, anytime a goalie let’s in a goal like that second goal, you can pretty much say he sucked. My comment was intended to highlight the lack of love for Vrsaljko.
Pjaca did in a handful of minutes what Cuadrano couldn’t do all season. Juve was headed for an embarassing draw b4 Pjaca brought life.
@Zach
He’s a very offensively creative swingman who is both a sniper and a slasher.
His scoring efficiency this season is very good, considering he pops in something like 15 points in 25 minutes.
His ideal role would be that 30mpg sixth man on a good playoff team. I could see Washington putting him in this role and watch him light up the opposing team’s bench.
Bojan usually tears up the Celtics and Raptors, who are expected to be second round playoff opponents for the Wizards.
Happy Birthday CS and thank you for all your hard work.

Bogdanovic escapes the terrible Nets for a contending team, it’ll be interesting to see how he fares on a more functional team. While his scoring numbers have been decent, he’s never done well in any advanced statistics, especially on defense.
Toooooooooooooooooooooo
Markooooooooooooooooooo
Pjaca !
@ CSR
Sretan rođendan momci.
When you guys first came on I thought the Alpine was in Vancouver?
UCL was without Hrvati sans Shaktar and Srna.
Now we lift the trophy every year and we represent all over the knock out phase.
First time in decades I fear for the team that lines up against our beloved Vatreni.
U boj …
Markoooooo pjacaaaaa
Pjaca just scored for Juventus in Champions league.
@ BZ
Is Suba a slow keeper? Yes.
Was Suba left dry on 4 of the goals? Yes.
Nothing he could do. Half the goals were ball jumbled in the box. That’s on the defense. Anything inside the 6-yard box is the keepers. I didn’t see anything he missed besides the whopper by Aguero.
I have to find new highlights. The ones I posted expired. Sorry about that.
@ FU
One more of those mighty people that are so brave behind the screen.
I hope you are not Croatian.
What is your problem anyway?
FUCK OFF CROATIAN SPORTS

Naprid Bili!
Zadar plus one with Vrsaljko.
Runs Like a horse and now whipping in crosses!
You could play him as an out and out Right Winger.
Throw in Jedvaj or Vida RB.
Subasic if I take off my Zadrani glasses is TOO immobile. He needs to own that 6 yard line.
Rooted to he goal line against Man City is suicide.
He is solid for us, I’ll take it for now. But Germany doesn’t win shit without Nauer dominating the entire penalty area!
Cmon Ante! Subasic sucked, but story of the day was that Vrsaljko played great vs Leverkusen. That cross to Torres was Perisic like.
