Croatia faces Colombia in Orlando on Thursday, March 26th, in the first of two friendly matches. With the 2026 World Cup just around the corner, these are exactly the type of matches Croatia needs to test the water against strong competition. Zlatko Dalić has to field the closest thing he has to a World Cup starting eleven (minus Gvardiol).
Defence: Stanišić – Vušković – Šutalo – Jakić
At the back, the biggest change is obviously on the left side. With Joško Gvardiol out with injury, Josip Stanišić should slide in at left back without much debate. He has had a tremendous season for Bayern, and not just in routine league matches either. He has shown up in big Champions League moments and continues to prove that he is one of Croatia’s most reliable defenders, no matter where he plays.
That also opens the door on the right flank for Kristijan Jakić, who has earned every right to start for the Vatreni after his qualifying campaign. He is not flashy (other than the absolute banger against Montenegro), but he reads the game well and does the dirty work. If Ivan Strinić pocketed Lionel Messi in 2018, maybe Jakić can do the job for now. Ivan Smolčić also deserves time off the bench, as he’s had a very strong year with Como, one of the emerging stories in the Serie A.
At centre back, Josip Šutalo should still be trusted. Regardless of his ups and downs in terms of club form, Šutalo has always looked good in the red and white checkers, so he likely remains a starter.
Next to him, though, there should not even be a debate anymore. Luka Vušković has to play.
This is the big talking point, and rightly so. The kid is exploding this year for Hamburg, the transfer hype is getting louder by the week, and every performance seems to push the price tag higher. He now sits just 10 million euros behind Gvardiol in valuation. When you have a defender that talented, that physically dominant, that calm on the ball, and that obviously destined for the big stage, you do not keep him on the bench at the dawn of a World Cup summer. He has four games until then, and the integration must happen now. It would be an absolute waste to leave him out against Colombia or Brazil, and even more absurd if that hesitation carried into the tournament itself. We all remember what Gvardiol looked like when he truly arrived on the world stage in 2022. Vušković could repeat that dominance in 2026, and perhaps even surpass it.
Midfield: Modrić – Baturina – P. Sučić
Croatia still revolves around Luka Modrić. At this point, the man is basically refusing to age. Even at 40, he is still dictating games and dragging AC Milan back to relevance. If he is healthy, he starts. End of discussion.
With Kovačić out, Petar Sučić should get the nod alongside him. His start to life at Inter has been encouraging, and while he is not yet a locked-in star, he looks increasingly comfortable at that level. Some starts, some substitute appearances — that is exactly what you want to see from a player who might be asked to play a serious role for Croatia very soon. This feels like the right moment to keep pushing him.
And then there is Martin Baturina, who, for me, is one of the easiest selections in the entire team.
This is the perfect match to test whether his club form can finally carry over to the national team. At Como, he has been outstanding over the last few months and, frankly, has looked like the main man in a team with Nico Paz. Should it not, we have trusty Andrej Kramarić to fit the 10 role. But if Baturina can translate the Como version of himself into a Croatia shirt, then suddenly this team has a new X-factor going into the World Cup.
Attack: Perišić – Budimir – Marco P.
Up front, I would keep things relatively straightforward. Ivan Perišić starts on the left wing because there is still no one I trust more there in a big match. He remains one of the few Croatian attackers who consistently plays with conviction, and even at this stage of his career, we still go as Perišić goes.
Through the middle, Ante Budimir gets the start for me. That said, Petar Musa’s start to the MLS campaign is a very encouraging development. Lets see what he can do off the bench against Colombia.
On the right, I would absolutely go with Marco Pašalić. Every time he plays for Croatia, he brings something fresh. The tempo changes, and the attack becomes less predictable. There is more intent, more directness, and more willingness to actually take players on. Croatia has lacked pace and spontaneity in wide areas for a while now, and Pašalić helps solve that. Let’s hope Dalić relies on him going into the World Cup.
This Colombia match is an opportunity to iron out the last few questionable positions going into the World Cup. How confident do you feel going into this clash with Colombia, and next week, with Brazil? How will Croatia line up, and will Dalić trust starboy Vušković and Baturina?
Croatiansports.com prediction: 2-1 Croatia (goals from Baturina and Modrić)

Dalic with a mostly B team lineup which isn’t a surprise. He’s obviously going to give everyone some time and try this 3 man backline. Looks like he’s saving more of a true lineup for the Brazil game. I’m not going to read much into this other then giving fringe players a run and try some different combos.
All this talk who vuskovic is gonna play with who cares if he’s good he’s good. It’s just a friendly we can win 5-0 doesn’t mean anything we can loose 5-0 doesn’t mean anything. End of day it’s just a friendly.
Dalic already has his starting lineup for WC if all his players are available.
All players starting today are good and plying in form and now they’re in America on a mini tour and coach is letting the play.
The game against Brazil will be probably the more serious lineup.
We fans take it more serious than what it is.
Maybe it’s the wrong approach but I look at it as a reward and opportunity and I think they will all show up.
With this approach there is absolutely no reason why Jaga shouldn’t be starting today (instead of Mario) and joining the U21 after ☹️
Beautiful touch and finish by Kean
Hopefully GG calms down now – they guy’s gonna have a heart attack with all the yelling and stress
If true what I’m reading about starting lineup I like Dalic’s approach. Let’s play all players and see what we got, we’re not gonna find out anything playing modric end etc two games 80 mins both games.
I couldn’t agree less.
It matters who you play with.
If you are Luka Vuskovic, would you rather have Gvardiol/Stanisic on each side, or Pongracic/Erlic?
Does Moro playing the Modric role create ANY chances for guys like Pasalic and Matanovic (who are very dependent on creators)?
If Colombia scores a couple of quick goals in this game, there will likely be some blame thrown at Vuskovic…and if Matanovic doesn’t touch the ball, then he will likely be criticized for being invisible.
If this is actually going to impact their minutes at the World Cup, then Dalic hasn’t been watching any of their club games.
I am all for trying new guys, but doing this last-minute “throw every random player out on the field and see what sticks” is not the right approach at all.
I really don’t want to watch some disjointed offense where we have three non-creators in Vlasic, Matanovic, and Pasalic as our trio up top…with Moro having the job to create chances for them.
Otherwise, this whole game will be us watching Perisic take it by himself.
Livaković – Erlić, Vušković, Pongračić – Marco Pašalić, Moro, P. Sučić, Perišić – Mario Pašalić, Vlašić – Matanović.
I’m guessing Moro is playing the HSV Nico ‘Rambo’ Remberg role – i.e. where he provides coverage for Vuskovic right in front of the defense – with Poro in center of midfield pulling strings and linking defence to attack and doing a LOT of running and covering lots of ground
8 subs per game
They probably have to play Modric both games per contract (1m fee for both games) – otherwise this ends up like 2018 when MORON SUKER agreed 400k, but ended up having to pay 100k PENALTY, bc the 5 players flew home after the first game
Hopefully Vušković has a good game.
I think Colombia will take this game more seriously than we will, and I don’t want him to look bad because we were experimenting (and then it becomes a question whether he starts for us or not).
I know – I feel the same way – BUT if Luka has a good game (despite what’s around him) then he’s a guarented starter
At least he’s not throwing Pandur in there too – could be worse lol
Again, I won’t be shocked if Luka gets burnt once or twice in the first half (hopefully not more than that) – but Dalic needs to realize that’s the cost of getting him up to speed and ready for the WC – that’s the only way he’ll learn
SN saying Columbia expected line-up is full strength – yikes
COLOMBIA* : Vargas – Munoz, Sanchez, Lucumi, Mojica – Lerma, Puerta – Arias, Rodriguez, Diaz – Suarez.
Suaurez is top scorer in Portugal league with Sporting (more goals than Pavlidis)
Diaz is Diaz
Rodriguez should be a bit rusty (only 200 minutes or something since November)
Arias was good at Wolves last year
In defence, Davinson Sanchez is a walking mistake and prone to concentration lapses out of nowhere – everyone needs to target him at all times – he’s bound to make a mistake (he makes all kinds of mistakes when nobody is near him, never mind if he’s being pressed) – hopefully on corners in Luka tries to attach himself to Sanchez and bully him

Nemoj, nemoj, …….ravnoteža i mir. Let It Be.
Although, going to a public school in a bad neighborhood, the truth is, the world is ruled by the bold, usually bad, rarely good. If you want good or you want to survive you have to fight for it, or you can give the guy your money that day, but he is going to come back for tomorrow’s pay.
If you are a relativist, and believe that good and evil don’t exist, then there is no issue, just stand by, if it is just the us and them perspective that needs elimination, and you are okay living as a caged bird.
It is easy to be good and don’t do anything, or say anything, and just toss rocks at the bold who try to create a better future.
With that said long live Vukovar Croatia, long live Peaceful Persia. Who are we to judge.
When you live boldly everyone will judge you.

We need this kid
We will have the best back line In the world
We should’ve called him up for today’s game 😉
Bennacer
Injured again
MORON Boban covered 40% of his 4m salary i.e. 1.6m
And then he low-balls Jaga offer
Unreal
Problem is Boban made such a stink about introducing a $750K per player salary cap, and he actually cut local guys like Pjaca and Petkovic from the team because of it.
Then he brings in Bennacer and pays him more than double that.
It just doesn’t look good.
Guys
Let’s keep it light – it’s game day – shall we ?
Global fuel shortages and the Illuminati can wait
We all got it all wrong – Dalic is going with
LCB Pongracic
CCB Luka
RBC Erlic
Not sure why he thinks it helps Hrvatska to announce the line-up in advance – so Columbia can adjust and prepare accordingly – nose picking at it’s finest
Well, maybe he said Duje and Sutalo first to throw them off…then hit them with the Erlic/Pongracic duo! 4D Chess!!!
To be honest, Erlic deserves to start over these other guys (he’s having a great year).
Sitting Duje is a good call. He’s way too slow and Vuskovic’s only weaknesses is his mobility, so it seems like a bad tandem to put them together.
Pongracic is our bad luck charm.
I just hope he doesn’t make Vuskovic look bad and Dalic starts doubting Vuskovic as starter for the World Cup.
Also worried about Luka being exposed b/w these two
Would rather Stanisic be next to him (who was flying around the pitch for Bayern last weekend vs. Union Berlin – he was EVERYWHERE – and making crazy runs into the box) as he’s the most mobile defender we have (and also moved to CB (again) with 30 minutes to go – so if he’s good enough to play CB for Bayern he’s good enough to play CB for Croatia)
But maybe Dalic wants to expose Luka to being 1 vs 1 against fast and mobile forwards and see how he responds
I will be SHOCKED if Luka doesn’t get burnt at least once or twice (but that’s the investment we need to make for him to learn)
I’m sure Luka’s on the phone all day with his private video analyst in the Netherlands going through all the Columbians and figuring out how he’s going to play it – hopefully Erlic and Pong listen in with him – so the three of them can be on the same page
Josko Vlasic made Luka do “suicide runs” on the plane ride over – up and down the aisles over and over again (apparently Wedding Boy was pissed he couldn’t get his beauty rest with his lavender eye mask in peace with Luka lumbering down the aisles) – to maintain fitness and circulation in his legs during the journey – no rest for Luka – even on the plane ride over – fully dedicated 100% – Josko “Croatian-dad-ing” his ass 24/7 – love it!
Columbia is fast. Hard to understand why we are starting three of our slowest defenders in a three man backline. In Dalic we trust.
It’s finest?
It’s its, not it’s.
It’s Colombia not Columbia.
And you call people all-caps MORONS?
Nice! Can’t wait 😊
Ok so….
Two people are having an argument , one of them says:
“I’m right, because I’m right, and you are wrong because everybody knows I’m right and I insist I’m right and if you don’t believe I’m right I’m going to hit you”,
the other one says
“look, I’m sorry I’ve upset you, I shouldn’t have been so cocky when I dismissed you, I’ll try to be more respectful in future. But please, let’s try and solve this problem for everyone’s benefit”.
Which of these guys do you trust more? The person who doesn’t need any evidence, isn’t rational, has no interest in thinking or developing or understanding, can’t control their anger, resorts to violence easily etc. or the one who is prepared to admit they aren’t perfect and seeks a better situation for everyone by accountability, reflection, understanding, open mindedness, compassion, respect etc?
Which of these people do you want bringing up your kid?
Where are all the trump supporters now? The paedophile. The guy about to crash the entire global economy. The president with the acumen of a spoilt two year old. Maybe it’s the paedophile element? Because power corrupts. You give people unaccountable power and it corrupts. You put on a dog collar and people trust you. Same with football coaches. Paedophiles and other forms of depraved individual seek positions of authority so they can abuse people. It’s about power. Leave your tribal myths in the past and wake up to reality.
I have a simple way of thinking about it. I’ll offer it to you, though you may consider it to be blasphemy. There are only two true religions in the world, the rest is just so much clothing. The religion of love, and the religion of power. A man can say he is a Muslim and he doesn’t like Hindus because they are idol worshippers. But look at this man’s actions, he runs his oil business to make maximum profit and exploits and abuses people, makes women wear full niqab so even their eyes can’t be seen. What religion is that? It’s the religion of power. There are catholics, atheists, pagans, Hindus, you name it, who are all like this. They belong to the same religion. The religion of power. Which big guy offers unaccountable power? Satan. So these people claim whatever, but actually they worship Satan. Then there are Muslims, catholics, Hindus, atheists and pagans, who don’t like to see suffering, who try to live life in a way which is humble and good, they try to live with compassion and understanding. These are the true believers. Their God is the god of love. You know like you have those kit cars, they look exactly like a Ferrari but they are made of plastic and have a lawnmower engine. It’s not the flashy red paint which makes it a Ferrari. It’s what’s under the bonnet 🙏🏻
I thought this was a sports site. But since you are harping: The psalmist says, ‘It is good to trust in the Lord rather than to trust in princes.’ You can get on Trump all you want but there are deeper problems (eg. murdering innocent babies in their mothers’ wombs) at stake here that have existed for far longer than Trump’s presidency. War is the punishment for sin. Look for the root of the problem rather than result of it. Hopefully, we can read more on this site about Croatia’s games with the two 2 teams from South America.
Did I miss something today?
I just checked the news, and it’s more Trump vs Iran war talk.
Is there something new brewing about this that caused you to fly off the handle?
Almost all Iranians I know actually support Trump on this, so I just step back and don’t try to pretend like I know anything about this.
I’m a ‘Croatia First’ guy ha ha.

It would be great to have unlimited substitutions for these friendlies, since it is for information feedback only. Maybe that is the case.
Sounds good, If a 3-man backline, Sutalo out, Kramaric/ Musa in. Choosing the right players from a strong roster, is a good problem to have.
@Martin
How’s Orlando ?
Did you find the tittie bars you were after ?
Thx
Vlasic after a good season might be heading to Bundesliga and Borussia Dortmund ?
Reports also suggest that there is interest from Torino and West Ham for Pandur?
FT U19
Croatia 3 v Swiss 1
Good win against a physically strong Swiss team.
The Swiss equalised in the 68th minute following a cross into our box from a free kick. We were missing our CB and goalscorer Puljic who had to be replaced at the start of the second half due to head injury.
Immediately from the KO in the 69th minute Mikic ran into the penalty box and cut the ball back for Covic who nicely side footed the ball into the net for 2 -1.
Shortly after in the 76th, a huge mistake by the Swiss defence failing to clear a long ball from our goalkeeper Rajic only for Baric to make it 3 – 1.
Smiljanic made it 4 -1 in stoppage time after latching on to a cut back from Baric.
In three day’s time we play Norway, and the last match is against France.
Only the winners of the group progress to the EURO finals to be held in Wales come June?
Opps 4 – 1
Why haven’t any of the Ontario boys commented on the new law ?
I know you’re embarrassed by being a MORONS and buying tickets at 3x face value rather than listening to the GOAT ANONYMOUS
But let Croats know when the law comes into effect and how it will work

Why is Anonymous and all Canadian Croats not upset or outraged about Bill C-9???
Bill C-9, also known as the Combatting Hate Act, aims to amend the Criminal Code to strengthen protections against hate propaganda and hate crimes, including provisions that could impact religious expression.
Concerns have been raised about the potential removal of good faith religious speech protections, which could affect how religious teachings are communicated in Canada.
Sounds like communism to me. But that is happening in other places too.
If the overwhelming majority of Canadians are voting for this, and Croat-Canadians who are against it (are just simply being outvoted on the issue)…then they can either move back to Cro or just stay put and live with it.
Most people are not in the unique position to have a second homeland to move to (where they speak the language and can integrate into the culture).
If you’re not willing to move back even if you’re completely dissatisfied with your birth nation and don’t see it as a viable place to raise your kids…then you can’t complain.
It is what it is.
Is the transgender stuff picking up steam in cro schools?
I keep thinking this a sports site, but as you bring this up, it would be good to see how the Spaniards fought for their faith during the Spanish Civil War (1936-39) and saved their country from Communism. It wasn’t until the Church was weakened from within that the Spaniards gave in after Franco’s death.
This is coming to Croatia to, as the world powers are not giving anyone a chance to vote but enforcing their mandate on everyone.
So what I gathered from the responses is that the Croatian Cowards will just sit and do nothing or run away like Chetniks.
I tried to be humble on this site but now I’ll speak very directly.
There will be no World Cup when the fuel lockdowns begin likened to Covid.
This is battle of Good Versus Evil, you can sit on the sidelines or join me in prison for defending the faith and Holy Bible.
I’m not going to let Satan and his band of vipers disrespect the word of God without a fight.
On that day we will see who the real Croat Christians are and who are the pretenders.
The world is turning into a hellscape. Wars spreading like wildfire, famine on the way, social disorder from East to West. Buckle up.
I like your passion, but keep it grounded on the Catholic doctrine of Christ the King. Our hope (and only one) is in Christ as any Croatian should know. Say your krunica every day.
True, but if the World is descending into chaos…then it’s better to live in that chaos alongside your brother and sister Croats.
U19 Euro 2026 Qualifying Elite Round
HT Croatia 1 Switzerland 0
Puljic goalscorer for us after 11 minutes following a corner.
The Swiss goalkeeper missed the cross and Puljic on the far post tapped it in.
Puljic another one of our young CB’s plays for Bayern Munich.
Patrice Covic far from impressive. Noa Mikic one of our better players, and for once solid defensively and dangerous going forward.
Second half LIVE on MAXsport for those interested.
Covic just scored a World Cup goal
2-1 Croatia
U18 and U17 also play today – please let people know about these things ahead of time – so we can plan accordingly
Thx
Baric for 3 – 1.
Thanks for posting – turned it on the background for the last 25 minutes – most of the players are very clumsy and not coordinated – it’s really a terrible level (Croatia guy had a break-away to make it 4-1 and shot it right at the keeper) – yes Mikic looks above this level (but I mean he’s already played in the Champions League, so that’s to be expected)
Baric 3-1
Funny mistake by Swiss CB (why was Baric in any offside position)
This level is so terrible – it’s like kids playing at the park
Looks like Covic read what you wrote
Didn’t Dalić already confirm that it’s three at the back?
Duje, Vušković and Šutalo as the back three.
Stanišić will be right flank. Perišić on the left.
Modrić, Sučić, Baturina with Krama and Budimir up top.
Yes, all the reports are suggesting that it will be three at the back with Vuskovic in the middle, Sutalo on the right and DCC on the left.
Yes

Markus must be spending his time getting wasted with Ante at theme-parks rather than focused on nogomet

Dark Horse Dalic will be back to testing our beloved 3-5-2 in any variation you may perceive… I believe we will run out as drawn above.. as stated by the Poglavnik himself we are suited for this trial once again with our current crop of players whom play this style naturally in there club teams
Why not.. If we can show that we can handle our own in these friendlies and once we can slot Gvardiol and Kovacic eventually when there ready we will hopefully even be 30 percent better then anything we see here!
