Whether you love him or hate him, Zdravko Mamić is – and has been – a crucial part of Croatian football for the past two decades. Podcast Inkubator sat down with Mamić this week for a 3-hour ‘tell-all’. I haven’t listened to the whole thing yet but the parts I have are worth a listen.
@Frenchman,
.
.
most people have some sort of shame, or are contrite, when they admit that they cheated. Especially when it involves the biggest sporting event in a four year cycle.
.
.
You seem to revel and celebrate it. This is not like most Frenchmen that I have met in the past. They are proud of their country, admit mistakes in their history, but don’t take pleasure in knowing that they are cheats.
.
.
Over 100,000 policemen and 40,000 firemen were deployed to help stop the rioting after the final. What would the damage have been without these first responders attending?
.
.
What is it about France now? Why would a French footballer, Benzema, be part of an extortion of his team mate, Valbuena? Why would there be so many Frenchmen rioting, actively burning down their own country? What has happened to your country? We know that our country is corrupt, and hopefully the revelations made by Mamic can get rid of the rot. Why do you take pride in cheating?
Great news if Mamic names the names of the corrupt officials. Corruption is one of the reasons that many young, educated, driven Croats are leaving Croatia for Germany and other countries. Hopefully this interview can lead to a day of reckoning, bringing light into the darkness. If he names names then those who are corrupt can be purged and a country based on laws and proper process can proceed.
.
.
This wouldn’t have come to light unless a big fish, Mamic, was charged.
.
As an aside, I wonder why Dinamo didn’t just pay Mamic a bonus. Everything above the board. Pay the taxes, get on with life.
@Slavonac from Canada
Let’s not take anything away from Griezmann, he saw a great opportunity to dive and did it brilliantly! We got our first goal because of his opportunism!
The only goal I didn’t like in the WC final was Mandzukic’s consolation goal because of Lloris’s stupidity.
The ref was a total failure!
@Slavonac from Canada
So you think Mamic is just an opportunist, and you don’t see anything wrong with that?
.
I thought Griezmann was an opportunist when he won that free kick! And football is just a game so who cares if a player cheats, it’s up to the ref to see it, and he didn’t, that’s just the reality of it lol!
Croatia got the L, move on.
What we think is ethical and moral is completely irrelevant once money is involved…it’s a business! Someone wins and someone loses. That’s just the reality of it.
.
If you were 17-19 and you weren’t sure you’d ever make it outside of playing in Croatia but someone invested money in you snd I many cases your family as well, would you not sign that contract? There’s two sides to every story end these families know their kids are signing these contracts….I don’t think it’s right for someone like a Modric or Lovren but how many guys that would never have made a phenomenal first contract outside of Croatia and then totally flopped are thanking what Mamic did for them?’
@Slavonac from Canada
But the slave contracts ought to be reckoned among good or bad things, so what say you, are they good or bad?
Anonymous, the slave contracts are common in Europe
@Slavonac from Canada
“all he ever did was talk politics”
.
You have to talk politics if you want to refer to the “corrupt system” when discussing Mamic. Or you can just keep the discussion to Mamic, his slave contracts, and lining his pockets with money that belongs to the club, you can’t have it both ways in my opinion.
So what do you think about Mamic’s slave contracts and him lining his pockets with money that belongs to the club?
The whole system in Croatia is corrupt?
.
Remember when Croatian football fans were complaining about FIFA being corrupt?
It’s like the stupid children of the Croatian diaspora want to hold FIFA to a higher standard than they hold the nation of their parents, I find that amusing.
Now that’s a logical response.
.
I’m still kinda shocked you thought my behaviour with that guy was “inexcusable”! His entire experience about soccer comes from his love for BBB and their antics…most people I know that love the sport and that want to discuss the sport, usually talk about players snd their qualities, lack of qualities, teams, coaches…all he ever did was talk politics…who’s the bigger Croatian and BBB bullshit that nobody really cares about!
@Slavonac from Canada
I believe that everything in Croatia is unsavoury, the way the nation was hoodwinked into EU membership was disgusting!
But you seem to be using the “corrupt system” to justify Mamic’s behaviour, and that’s wrong.
You obviously can’t talk about Mamic without bringing up the “corrupt system”, so why not talk about the “corrupt system” then, it’s obviously a bigger problem than Mamic?
.
“let me ask you this. in your opinion, is it ok for a club or a clubs fan base to sabotage an entire nation because they are upset with Mamic?”
.
I wouldn’t do what they did, but that’s because Mamic’s behaviour doesn’t influence my behaviour.
Thanks BC!!
.
Anonymous, do you even read the Croatian news? Are yoy seriously asking me if there is corruption in Croatian government and in the court system?
@slavonac
No one comes close to you on commenting. Well written. Don’t bother with these idiotic anonymous posts.
how do you know what Mamic said in the interview is factual. Has it been verified?
Anonymous, whichever anonymous you are….I’ve always said that Mamic has done wrong…even in my comments above I said “Blaming Mamic for not paying taxes might be fair”…
.
My issue has been that people blame him for absolutely everything…especially their own short-comings and failures. Apparently Mamic has been at fault for Hajduk’s terrible record in the last 15 years and then the club fan base organize protests which then lead to crazy fans taking it up a notch and screwing the entire nation and national team at a game vs Italy…and then again in Split! do you not see how this works?
.
Mamic is one part of a very corrupt system. are you suggesting that only he is corrupt and that every other club in Croatia and every official is clear of any wrongdoings? are you really that naïve?
.
If you listen to what Mamic is saying in the interview and believe there is only 1%-5% truth to what he says, iI think its 100000000 times worse than what he’s ever done. His description of these corrupt political figures and judges dealing are absolutely horrendous…these officials are PART OF CROATIAN LAW!! Let that sink in a bit before you respond to me.
.
you asked me …”does that mean you’re pro a “corrupt system” that can give rise to people like Mamic because you’re pro Mamic?”
.
let me ask you this. in your opinion, is it ok for a club or a clubs fan base to sabotage an entire nation because they are upset with Mamic?
.
here’s another question for you. Mamic has been gone a few years now…how is Hajduk doing in the league and within their clubs officials and management?
.
are you not concerned that a fanboy org can take such a strong hold on how a club operates? are you not concerned that a fanboy org can make demands to a club and the club has to adhere to those demands?
.
Dinamo just beat Tottenham to advance to the next round in the Europa League, our National Team came second at the last World Cup, Dinamo’s academy has been competing against the best teams all over Europe and they’ve done extremely well…
.
Mamic provided a home and opportunity for players like Luka Modric, Eduardo Da Silva (Da Silva was basically stranded and would have ended up on the streets or back in Brazil), Sime Vrsaljko, Dejan Lovren, Vedran Corluka…all of these guys born somewhere else and could have made a career that would have failed if they didn’t have the SUPPORT of Mamic and this is why I like Mamic…he’s done more for Croatian soccer than you ever will and more than any Hajduk member has ever done!
.
Talking about behaviour…do you even put any thought into your comments or are you just an agitator that trolls?
Is it possibble to translate or subtitels ?
Any asshole like Mamic can be successful if he’s a crook – smarten up.
@Slavonac from Canada
So what if he was anti Mamic’s behaviour, does that mean you’re pro a “corrupt system” that can give rise to people like Mamic because you’re pro Mamic?
Your behaviour was inexcusable.
He was anti Mamic because BBB hated him snd he was a fanboy of the fanboys!
@Slavonac from Canada
I recall the person you were arguing with was Ante B? It got pretty heated and I was disgusted at your behaviour towards a fellow Croat.
.
.
I remember arguing with a certain person on this site. He took the side of the BBB and I said that the reason Mamic is corrupt is because the entire system is corrupt…the person arguing with me then kept trying to act as if my comment about a “corrupt system” was some type of joke….now, I feel I was right!
Ivo Josipovic is a fucking hypocrite, everyone knows that in Croatia the people serve the politicians, not the other way around, and that atheistic communist fool/Josipovic has the gall to take umbrage at Mamic and his slave contracts!
.
Croatia is a fucked country man.
Mamic’s greatest crime being successful it’s the one unforgivable sin in Croatia. One of the people most responsible for Croatia’s Silver medal hope this witch hunt against him ends soon.
we can say whatever we want about Mamic but I do see his argument on many things…most of these officials and judges are definitely corrupt and brutally arrogant.
.

Mamic did exactly what it takes to get shit done in Croatia, he paid everyone off and was smart enough to keep a diary or count of his dealings. Is this way of doing business smart….maybe not in most country’s but this is exactly how shit goes down in many…if not, MOST European country’s!
.
Many of us look at this and say “HOLY COW”, corruption at its finest but if you live in Croatia you would know that its hell trying to get anything done without greasing someone palm!
.
Ostojic and the swastika…hmmm…Mamic asks “how can we believe that every official, police officer, security specialist and investigator involved has come up completely empty” in the so-called investigation?!?! He’s right!! what was the purpose of the swastika in the first place…to discredit HNS and Mamic….by trying to paint Croatia as a Fascist state and then allow the world to believe we are mentally challenged inbreds that promote hate when the real perpetrators were trying to dismantle the HNS and get us disqualified from playing in an international tournament….who exactly would want that to happen? hmmmm…. I can make a guess but I’m sure my guess would piss people off!
.
Blaming Mamic for not paying taxes might be fair but the amount of corruption that has been exposed describes to me that the issues is far greater than just him!
